The Power of Wow
Some of you know about my start
in this business. During my senior
year in high school I was running a
trade shop and couldn’t find a reliable
findings supplier. Being a budding
goldsmith with a passion to serve, but
a little short on patience, I thought,
“Why not manufacture settings and
findings myself ?” That, in essence,
is how Stuller was born. I perceived
a need. And looking back on it, that
has always been the way our company
evolved. Out of needs and desires that
you all have articulated. When we were
primarily in findings we heard “Do
Matt Stuller talks shop with Chris Davis, a master stone setter in CAM Services
you have mountings?” After we got
into mountings, it was “I wish you sold metals.” Years later, after we had honed our expertise with small diamonds and
gemstones, we branched out to finished jewelry. So in a sense it was you the customers who created Stuller.
It was organic innovation. With a commitment to quality, reliability, responsiveness, friendliness, and speed. We offered
things large and small that made a big difference to you, such as color catalogs, toll-free ordering, overnight shipping—
the list goes on and on. Today, with the high price of noble metals and gems, and with more educated and demanding
consumers, we are working hard in developing new and creative ways to partner with you. So that you can be heroes to
your customers. Profitably.
What we strive to do with every order is serve—with passion. It’s at the core of who we are. To supply valuable and

New Roles at Stuller
With an eye toward improving our mission and in recognition of the
great talent that is the backbone of Stuller, the company has awarded
promotions and created new strategic positions.
Most notably Chief Operating Officer Jay Jackson has been named
president and CEO, allowing company founder Matthew Stuller to
return to the position of chairman. Jackson has more than 15 years of
experience managing Stuller’s sales, supply chain and manufacturing
operations. He joined Stuller in 1996 and had previously served Sears
for 30 years in its product services division.
Harold Dupuy has been named vice president of strategic analysis.
He most recently served as chief merchandising officer.
Danny Clark is now chief merchandising officer. Clark was
formerly chief supply chain officer.
Stanley Zale has been named merchandise vice president—
diamonds and gemstones, heading that newly combined business
unit. Previously he headed the diamonds unit. Coby Blanchard is succeeding Clark as chief supply chain officer.
Grady Quebedeaux assumes the newly created role of executive
director of information technology.

I love to read. 80% of my reading is business books. I am currently on my second reading of Chet
Holmes’ The Ultimate Sales Machine. Any business person will find diamonds in this book.
What makes you different than other “voices on the phone”?
No different. We all have that warmth and enthusiasm serving our customers. Some ask us if Stuller
has a special way to train ‘nice.’ Nope! It’s just our style, and hiring managers pick up on that in
interviews.

Trend Alert: Engagement Rings with Color
To love, honor and …disobey stuffy “rules” about what
an engagement ring should look like. Not that white
diamonds are going away any time soon. But for that
less conventional bride—such as Jessica Simpson and
Carrie Underwood—colored and mixed-stone rings
are coming on strong. Yellow diamonds, sapphires and
rubies are popular. Even the fustiest of institutions, the
English royal family, is in on the act: Prince William
presented Kate Middleton with an 18-carat sapphire

And an eagerness to share his vast knowledge
with you. That’s where Andy “The Tool Guy”
finds his bliss. Just ask him.
His official title is “Director of Tool Sales & the Technical
Bench” but Stuller colleagues and more than a few customers
know Andy Kroungold as “The Tool Guy”—a name earned
via four decades in the industry, including 12 years at
Stuller. His passion for his craft radiates from his bright eyes
outward. “How many people can say they truly love what they
do?” asks Andy, 57. “I’m a bonafide workaholic in the best
sense. I’m one of the luckiest men on the planet.”
Luck did play a part in Kroungold’s journey. A native of
Philadelphia, where his family owned a furniture store, he
was working as a lifeguard in Miami Beach, putting himself
through college in Communications and Business, when a
friend asked him to help out with a budding jewelry business.
“Which I knew nothing about, so I started out sweeping
floors,” he says with a laugh. “But I guess he saw something in
me and he took me under his wing.”
That friend did more than teach Andy jewelry sales. He
trained him to be a bench jeweler. From there Kroungold
moved into repairs and factory management. His
mastery of these areas, as well as his near
photographic memory, caught the eye of J.R.
Newman of Swest, in Atlanta. It was there
that he picked up the moniker “The Tool Guy.”
Recalls Andy: “I remember J.R. sitting me
down and going through Swest’s catalog
page by page, teaching me about each tool.
But that’s the kind of industry we work
in—people help each other.”
When a former VP at Swest, Darrell
Warren, moved to Stuller, Andy
followed. Together they have
worked to create a tool department
with a technical knowledge base
unparalleled in the industry—a
dream made real with Stuller’s
support. “Stuller made me feel
completely valuable. In fact, I
remember shortly after I started here, Matt Stuller himself, at
a family event, got down on one knee to shake my 5-year-old
son’s hand and tell him how glad he was that he and his mom
and dad were here in Lafayette. That blew my mind. But that
type of integrity flows freely from the top down.”
Away from Stuller, Kroungold savors simple family life. His
son Robbie is now 18 and juggles college at the University of
Louisiana at Lafayette and a budding lawn business. Andy and
his wife Susan, who helps their son with his business, enjoy
playing golf, listening to country music and cheering ULL’s
basketball team on. No one begrudges him his hours logged
at Stuller. “They’re very supportive.”
Today Kroungold’s team fields more than 140 calls a day,
as well as emails and faxes. All with a smile. “While Andy’s
experience and knowledge allow him to help customers with
their issues,” says Chris Lalanne, Executive Director of Sales
Operations, “It’s his enthusiasm that wows them.” With his
eye on the latest advances in tools, Kroungold also scours
other industries to find tools to adapt to bench work, aiming
to add ease and efficiency for jewelers. But it’s safe to say
no one will ever invent a device clever—or hard-working—
enough to replace Andy. “If I miss a day of work, I feel like
I’m missing out, which is why I don’t think I’ll ever retire,” he
says. “I come to work every day with a family I love. Who’d
