Orangevale Branch 150 State SIR web site: www.sirinc.org Branch 150 web site: www.sir150.com Branch 150 editor: Bob Carlstroem - [email protected] June 2013 Regular Meetings - 3rd Wednesday of Each Month Location Rancho Cordova Elks Lodge 11440 Elks Circle Rancho Cordova, CA 95742 (916) 635-8038 Next Meeting - June 19, 2013 Regular Monthly Schedule Business meeting 10:30 Social time/registration 11:00 Meeting/luncheon 11:30 Big and Little Sir Tidbits The month of June has arrived, which means that my term as Big Sir is quickly coming to an end. There is still a lot of business that needs to be accomplished before we reach the end of 2013. I will try my best to complete the items on our agenda that need to be met. Big Sir John Rizzardo We need members to step up and offer their talents at the executive level. We have a few members within the executive level who would like to step down from their positions and pass it on to someone else. We as a branch need to do more in bringing in new members. I have been asked as your Big Sir, along with other Big Sirs, to attend a meeting on June 11,1013 in Placerville to find ways to increase our individual branch membership. Hopefully I can bring back some valuable information to help in our recruiting efforts. I would like to thank all of you who attended our annual picnic. I would like to give a special thank you to those who worked so hard to make our picnic a success. Those who did not attend missed out on a great time. See you at our next meeting, June 19, 2013. Try to bring a guest. What’s Happening Menu: Beef/chicken enchiladas, rice, refried beans, salad, and dessert Speaker: Bruce Maiman Topic: The Media Maiman. Bruce, aka Dr. Maimes, is a radio personality. Bruce has appeared on KDON in Monterey, California, WKSE in Buffalo, New York, WKRQ in Cincinnati, Ohio and KCCL in Sacramento. Bruce prefers to ask questions rather than pound the table with his opinion. The topics are broad in scope but always with an eye for the human condition that surrounds the many issues of the day. A native New Yorker, he has been a college teacher, a concert pianist, a semi-pro football coach, a NYC cab driver and currently, a pretty good cook. He lives with his family in Sacramento. I think Bruce is going to talk to us about the news media then and now. How we receive our news today compared to a few years ago. The Picnic was a success. See the summary on page 3 This is your very last chance to join in on the Folsom Spillway Tour on Wednesday June 5th. By now everyone who e-mailed me to sign-up should have received an e-mail with the directions where to meet Little Sir Bob Schmidt and a Visitor Agreement form to fill out. If you didn’t receive these items or if someone else would like to attend give me a call ASAP at 916-257-3896. We have about 18 people attending the tour. The next item of business is to announce our June Speaker. He is a former KFBK talk host who is a Sacramento Bee Columnists, Bruce Branch 150 Executive Committee Big Sir Little Sir Secretary Asst. For more information, contact Bob Bonner at 961-5403 Cordova Golf Course May was a good month for the Jolly Hookers Fishing Club. We fished Lake Oroville with great success. Next we were on to Lake Shasta Lake for the three day house boat trip. Even though we had to contend with the wind we had a very good time of fishing, catching, eating and enjoying the good times; past present and future. The May NDO is scheduled for Lake Oroville on the 28th. On to New Melones for the June Derby and Union Valley for the NDO. Thoughts for the day: No one is in charge of your happiness except you. Happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have. Weekly Tournament Play Every Friday except the last Friday of the month. Sign-up when you show up. The last Friday of each month (except Dec & Jan) is designated as a Scramble Tournament for which sigh-ups are required. 2013 Away Tournaments 11-Jun 25-Jun 9-Jul 23-Jul 13-Aug 28-Aug Tues Tues Tues Tues Tues Wed Plumas Lake 9:00 Wildhawk 8:00 River Oaks 9:00 Ancil Hoffman 9:30 Diamond Oaks 9:00 Timber Cr. 10:30 10-Sep 24-Sep 8-Oct 22-Oct 5-Nov 19-Nov Tues Tues Tues Tues Tues Tues Woodcreek Teal Bend Cavanaugh Mackenzie Bing Maloney Wildhawk 9:00 9:00 9:00 9:30 9:00 9:00 Sandbaggers of the Month Ladies Day Picnic - May 15, 2013 at Lakeview Hills Cordova Don Hoerl came in with a net 55, 8 under par.
