Eagle Lake, 2014
During the week of July 19-26 we had two
separate families and two other club members
head to Eagle Lake Ontario for our club trip. The
groups were split with some staying at Cedar
Point Lodge and others Birchdale Lodge. The
weather was perfect the whole week with only a
little rain one evening after dinner and no major
wind days. Fishing was good for walleyes but
slowed by a major mayfly hatch due to our colder
spring and summer. Even so my family which
included 4 kids under the age of 13 easily caught
well over 500 fish. We caught 120 walleyes
fishing just a few hours each morning and evening
for them and spent the rest of our day chasing
jumbo perch, northerns and checking out new
spots with the kids. Northern and perch fishing
was excellent. Great times were had by all
and everyone was impressed with the resorts.
Hope you can join us next year!

Sept. 12, 2014 - Fish Fry Fundraiser at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
2126 N. Sherman Ave. Madison, WI
This is the club’s biggest fund raiser, last year getting around $2000 for the club. We work
with the church which hosts two of these events. We get the proceeds which is then matched
by the Thrivent Financial company. Jack Hurst will give an overview of this activity at the
August 12the on the water meeting, and will have tickets. Please let Jack know if you want to
help, or Dave Dahl know if you can help frying the fish or cleaning up the unit the fillowing day.

More from Eagle Lake, 2014
Just came back from Canada YFC trip. Cedar Point
Lodge hospitality was awesome! As we parked by the
office, Patrick came out to meet us. He took us into the
dining room for a beer and registration. Then the dock boys
unloaded our truck and carried everything into the cabin.
After that Pat launched the boat. Later, he took us on a
tour of the lake and showed us some fishing spots. When
we checked out, same thing in reverse. Unbelievable!
Fishing was good, photos are one days catch.
Highly recommend returning next year.

OUTINGS UPDATE August 2014
August –you are on your own.
September outing on lake Erie depends on interest. This is for Walleye and Perch, Smallies as
collateral damage – I have booked the charter as we have 4 persons interested to date. This is a
long weekend charter Friday and Saturday, arrive Thursday, Sept. 18th, fish Friday and Saturday,
depart Sunday. It’s about a 7 hr. drive to Port Clinton. This is with Captain Hooks (Captain Pete) out
of Sandusky/Port Clinton. The rate for 3 nights lodging (Condos on a 25 acre lake) and 2 day fishing
is $295.00 per person. A fishing license for the US side is $11.00 per day, if the best fishing is on the
Canadian side, the license is $22.00 per day, Captain Pete prefers the US side but he will go where the
fish are. The daily limit on Walleye is 6, no possession limit, for Perch it is 30 daily, no possession limit
If there is not enough interest, alternatively we could hit the Milwaukee harbor for Salmon. Please
contact me ASAP if you plan on going to Lake Erie or I will have to cancel the Lake Erie outing.
Oct . 18th, a Saturday. Usually a great time to fish the Barge out of Genoa. However the last trips have
been plagued by excessive weeds floating down the river making fishing very difficult at best. This is still
a possible, but if the weed report is not good, we may opt for hitting the local waters for a one day outing.
Nov. 8th a Saturday. One day outing to Lake Wisconsin for Walleye and Sauger.
More detail as we get closer to the date

I did a guided
fly fishing trip on the
Lower Wisconsin River
with
Black
Earth
Angling. Kyle Zemple,
the guide, was great.
He was knowledgeable and patient and
put us on fish. I was
able to develop ability
and confidence to put
the fly where it was
needed and caught
about a dozen smallies. The largest were
about 18”. It was a
great day.

Columbus Day Smallie outing in Door County
Organized by the Rock Valley Anglers
Just an FYI for everyone considering going
on the Columbus day outing,
The hillside hotel only
has 6 rooms left for both the columbus day and
fall festival day weekends!!!!
These rooms will go very fast and you need to book
your room now before they are all gone. This is the
peak of the Door County fall tourist season so there
will be many non fishermen also looking to get rooms
in the weeks to come and usually by the end of August
getting a room on the peninsula is almost impossible.
The contact number is on our club newsletter as
they are one of our premium sponsors, so give Gordy a
call and reserve your room before they are all gone!!!!!

Anyone Wanna Edit a Newsletter?
I’ve been creating the newsletter for seven years,
now with Stan Nichols as a backup. I am willing
to continue, but if anyone else would like to take
over, let me know. We currently create it with
Adobe InDesign, and I’d be glad to train someone.
