So we made it to half term and the mid point of this academic year. It’s amazing to
reflect how quickly the year has gone. The next half of the year will be really exciting
particularly for our youngest children as the new EYFS block will be finished with them
moving in in June. They can’t wait and neither can the teachers. The next phase (the
KS2 block) which will be built on the site of the nursery and reception huts isn’t due to
begin until we break up for the summer.
Many of you will have seen me outside of school in the mornings and in the evenings
trying to control the traffic flow into the car park. I’d like to send a huge thank you to
all of you who have altered or changed the way you get to school. It’s making a
difference so please keep it up. I’ve been motivated by concerns that children’s safety
was being put at risk. I was also concerned about the reputation of St Mary’s in the
local community. A lady, who was thinking of sending her children here, rang the office
to say that she’d seem parents arguing in the South Street carpark. She said that if that
was how the adults behaved imagine what the children must be like! This worried me
greatly. So I’ll continue to try to do my bit outside of school in the mornings and the
evenings for the foreseeable future.
This morning I welcomed Councillor Linda Green and PC Donna Kemp (with 2 of her
colleagues) to the school. We spent some time looking at the traffic situation on South
Street. I’m going to continue to work with these colleagues to try to make the part of
South Street outside of our school safer for the children. I’ll keep you updated on this.
Parents in Y3 will have noticed a new face in the classrooms over the last 2 weeks. Mr
Sebastian Grunwald has joined us to cover the remainder of Matilda Ammah’s maternity
leave in Y3 until the end of the summer term 2016. We welcome him.
Thank you for all of your support in this first half of the year. Please remember to pray
for us! Attendance figures for this half term will be in the first newsletter back - 26th Feb

AWARDSASSEMBLY
Pleasebringinanyrecentawards.
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of
mercy, hail, our life, our
sweetness and our hope. To
thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve: to thee do we
send up our sighs, mourning
and weeping in this vale of
tears. Turn then, most gracious
Advocate, thine eyes of mercy
toward us, and after this our
exile, show unto us the blessed
fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O
merciful, O loving, O sweet
Virgin Mary! Amen.
Faces of Mercy
Art work in the main corridor is being worked on in the classes to celebrate
those who have shown mercy. We are calling these heroic people the
‘Faces of Mercy”. We’ll be using these people to inspire us to follow Pope
Francis’ call to have hearts full of love and mercy. Please help by singing
our Jubilee of Mercy song which you can find here:
www.smi.hounslow.sch.uk/the-jubilee-of-mercy.html. You may want to use the
resources from Clifton Diocese in your homes.
Prayer of Contrition
Father of mercy,
like the prodigal son
I return to you and say:
"I have sinned against you
and am no longer worthy
to be called your son."
Christ Jesus, Saviour of the world,
I pray with the repentant thief
to whom you promised Paradise:
"Lord, remember me in your kingdom."
Holy Spirit, fountain of love,
I call on you with trust:
"Purify my heart, and help me to walk
as a child of light."
Amen

About Mini Music-Makers
Children are taught by specialist music teachers to make music through
singing and playing instruments. Melody and percussion instruments are
integrated with favourite songs and well-known nursery rhymes.
The Early Music programme will gradually introduce stringed instruments, in
particular the violin, and this instrument will become the focus of musical
learning for each child.
There are established pathways within the Music Service for children to grow
and develop as musicians throughout all of their school years, and our Mini
Music-Makers programme is the basis of this journey.
