Celebrated throughout the year in accordance with the policy
of the Archdiocese and to accommodate the needs of our
Parish Family. Attendance at a preparation session may be
required. You must be a registered and active family for at
least 90 days before a date for Baptism will be scheduled.

MARRIAGE
Arrangements should be made with a priest as
soon as possible. One year prior to marriage
or as soon as Engagement is announced is

MINISTRY TO THE SICK
In the event of serious illness or when
someone is hospitalized, the parish office
should be notified. The Eucharist and the
Sacrament of the Sick will be celebrated with
anyone requesting them. Remember, the Hospital cannot
notify us on their own.
YOUTH MINISTRY
The Youth Mass is at 9:30 AM on Sundays and “Get-A-Grip,”
grades 7-12, meets for Liturgy of the Word during the Mass
on the first Sunday of the month. Youth in grades 9-12 meet
at scheduled intervals.

CHOIR
STEWARDSHIP AND TITHING
We are fortunate enough to have a Parish Choir that has a full
multi-lingual repertoire, as well as a Junior Choir . The Choir
rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and the Junior Choir on
Thursday at 6:30 PM.
Instrumentalists are welcomed, either to play solo or with our
choir. A parish orchestra made up of children and adults
rehearses and performs several times during the year. For
more information, or to volunteer, please call John or Martha
Nowik after Mass or at the Parish Office.
Stewardship calls us to freely give of our time, talent, and
treasure for the good of our parish family and community.
God gives us everything! I give Him back my tithe. Tithing
is God’s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10%
of gross income to God – 5% for your parish church and 5 %
for other charities.

THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Wisdom 11:22—12:2
In this reading, we are reminded of the love God feels
toward every creature, or else he would not have
created them. God shows mercy on our sins and hopes
we will repent and have faith in him.
Second Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1:11—2:2
Paul tells the Thessalonians that God will make them
worthy of his call, so that they can be glorified in Christ.
Paul also tells them he is unsure when Christ will come
again, but urges them not to believe people who falsely
state that Jesus has returned.
Gospel: Luke 19:1-10
Zacchaeus, the wealthy chief tax collector in Jericho,
was very excited when Jesus came to town and asked to
stay with him. People were angry that Jesus would go to
a sinner's home. Zacchaeus then told Jesus he planned
to give half of his belongings to the poor, and repay any
person he had cheated. Jesus was delighted since his
mission was "to search out and save what was lost."

Sakrament Chrztu Świętego
Udzielany jest we wszystkie niedziele roku. Rodzice wraz
z chrzestnymi powinni uczestniczyć w nauce przed chrztem dziecka,
na którą należy uprzednio się umówić.
Zgodnie z zaleceniami Archidiecezji Newark rodzice dziecka powinni
być zapisani do parafii na conajmnie 90 dni przed planowanym
chrztem dziecka.
Sakrament Małżeństwa
Narzeczeni zamierzający przyjąć ten sakrament powinni zgłosić się do
księdza na rok wcześniej, aby odbyć odpowiednie przygotowanie.
Duszpasterstwo chorych
Prosimy o powiadamianie parafii o tych, którzy z powodu wieku czy
choroby - na stałe czy czasowo - skazani są na pobyt w domu lub w
szpitalu i nie mogą uczestniczyć w liturgii Mszy Świętej w kościele.
Chcemy ich odwiedzać, zanosić komunię świętą, służyć spowiedzią,
czy sakramentem chorych.
Katechizacja
Rodzice dzieci w wieku szkolnym zobowiązani są do posyłania ich na
katechizację w ciągu roku szkolnego. Istnieje też możliwość nauki dla
dzieci przedszkolnych. Katechizacja odbywa się w środy każdego
tygodnia w godzinach od 6:30 do 7:40PM.
Katechumenat (RCIA)
Także dorośli, którzy chcieliby przyjąć sakramenty inicjacji
chrześcijańskiej (chrzest, bierzmowanie, eucharystię) powinni odbyć
odpowiednie przygotowanie.
Spotkania młodzieży
Młodzież klas 9-12 spotyka się w niedziele na mszy świętej o godz.
9:30AM, w czasie której ma specjalną liturgię słowa. Inne spotkania
według ustalanego rozkładu.
Liturgia Słowa dla dzieci
Odbywa się ona w każdą niedzielę roku szkolnego podczas mszy
świętych w języku polskim lub w języku angielskim.
Prosimy o zgłaszanie dzieci do udziału w tej formie katechizacji.

W naszej parafii działają Chóry Parafialne prowadzone przez Panią
Martę Nowik. Prosimy chętnych - zarówno dzieci jak i dorosłych - o

Jubileuszowy Rok Miłosierdzia
8 grudnia 2015 – 20 listopada 2016
Kontynuujemy naszą refleksję na temat uczynków miłosierdzia względem
ciała, które dał nam Pan, aby nasza wiara była zawsze żywa i dynamiczna.
Uczynki te unaoczniają bowiem, że chrześcijanie oczekując na ostateczne
spotkanie z Panem, nie są znużeni i leniwi, ale każdego dnia wychodzą Jemu
na spotkanie, rozpoznając Jego oblicze w twarzach wielu osób proszących o
pomoc. Dzisiaj rozważamy następujące słowa Jezusa: „byłem przybyszem, a
przyjęliście Mnie; byłem nagi, a przyodzialiście Mnie” (Mt 25, 35-36). W
naszych czasach wyjątkowo aktualne jest dzieło dotyczące cudzoziemców.
Kryzys ekonomiczny, konflikty zbrojne i zmiany klimatyczne zmuszają wiele
osób do emigracji. Jednakże migracje nie są nowym zjawiskiem, lecz należą
do dziejów ludzkości. Jeśli myślimy, że są one właściwe tylko naszym czasom,
to wykazujemy się brakiem pamięci historycznej.
Biblia przedstawia nam wiele konkretnych przykładów migracji. Wystarczy
pomyśleć o Abrahamie. Boże wezwanie pobudziło go do opuszczenia swej
ojczyzny, aby wyruszyć do innej: „Wyjdź z twojej ziemi rodzinnej i z domu
twego ojca do kraju, który ci ukażę” (Rdz 12,1). Podobnie było z narodem
Izraela, który z Egiptu, gdzie przebywał w niewoli, wyruszył idąc czterdzieści
lat przez pustynię, aż dotarł do ziemi obiecanej przez Boga. Sama Święta
Rodzina – Maryja, Józef i malutki Jezus była zmuszona do ucieczki przed
zagrożeniem Heroda: „[Józef] wstał, wziął w nocy Dziecię i Jego Matkę i udał
się do Egiptu; tam pozostał aż do śmierci Heroda” (Mt 2,14-15). Historia
ludzkości to dzieje migracji: pod każdą szerokością geograficzną nie ma ludu,
który nie zaznałby zjawiska migracyjnego.
Na przestrzeni wieków byliśmy w tym względzie świadkami wspaniałych
wyrazów solidarności, chociaż nie brakowało napięć społecznych. Dzisiaj
kontekst kryzysu ekonomicznego sprzyja niestety pojawianiu się postaw
zamknięcia, a nie gościnności. W niektórych częściach świata wznoszone są
mury i przeszkody. Czasami wydaje się, że ciche dzieło wielu mężczyzn i
kobiet, którzy na różne sposoby starają się pomagać i towarzyszyć
uchodźcom i migrantom jest przysłonięte wrzawą innych, wyrażających
instynktowny egoizm. Ale zamknięcie nie jest rozwiązaniem, a wręcz
przeciwnie w ostateczności sprzyja przestępczemu procederowi handlu
ludźmi.
Zaangażowanie chrześcijan w tej dziedzinie jest dzisiaj pilnym wyzwaniem,
podobnie jak to było w przeszłości. By spojrzeć jednie na minione stulecie,
przypomnijmy wspaniałą postać św. Franciszki Cabrini, która wraz ze swoimi
towarzyszkami poświęciła swe życie emigrantom przybyłym do Stanów
Zjednoczonych Ameryki. Również dzisiaj potrzebujemy tego świadectwa, aby
miłosierdzie mogło dotrzeć do wielu ludzi potrzebujących. Jest to trud
angażujący wszystkich bez wyjątku. Diecezje, parafie, instytuty życia
konsekrowanego, stowarzyszenia i ruchy kościelne, a także poszczególni
chrześcijanie jesteśmy wezwani do przyjęcia braci i sióstr, którzy uciekają
przed wojną, głodem, przemocą i nieludzkimi warunkami życia. Wszyscy
razem jesteśmy wielką siłą wsparcia dla osób, które utraciły ojczyznę,
rodzinę, pracę i godność.
A nagich przyodziać cóż oznacza, jak nie przywrócenie godności tym, którzy ją
utracili? Z pewnością dając odzież ludziom, którzy zostali jej pozbawieni.
Pomyślmy jednak także o kobietach, ofiarach handlu ludźmi, wyrzuconych na
ulice, czy też o innych sposobach używania ludzkiego ciała jako towaru, w
tym nawet osób nieletnich. Podobnie brak pracy, domu, sprawiedliwej płacy,
czy doznawanie dyskryminacji z powodu rasy lub też wyznawanej wiary –
wszystkie stanowią formy „nagości”, w obliczu których jesteśmy jako
chrześcijanie wezwani do bycia wyczulonymi, czujnymi i gotowymi do
działania.
Drodzy bracia i siostry, nie wpadajmy w pułapkę zasklepienia się w sobie,
będąc obojętnymi na potrzeby braci i zatroskanymi jedynie o nasze interesy.
Właśnie na tyle na ile otwieramy się na innych, nasze życie staje się owocne,
społeczeństwa zdobywają na nowo pokój, a osoby odzyskują swoją pełną
godność.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The Religious Education Catechists always keep up-to-date
and fresh with continual training. On Saturday, the
Archdiocese held its annual Catechist Convocation with
several workshops run by trained facilitators and presenters
from the Archdiocese as well as from publishers of Catholic
Education materials. We had 9 of our Catechists attend
this year and their efforts will be translated into the
development of our young people as they receive the
benefits from the work of the teachers. We owe a great
debt of gratitude to those who gave of their time to enhance
their knowledge and ability to present Catholic Education to
our children. Those that attended are: Dianne Smith, Lisa
Beckman, Edith Guadarrama, Camille Mathias, Margaret
Macknowsky, Magalie Pasteur, Josie Thomas, Tiffany
Wilson, and Linda Knowles-Mayer.
CHRISTMAS “PAGEANT” PRESENTATION
After appealing for participants and helpers for the
presentation, unfortunately, there are too few youngsters
who are willing to be part of the presentation as well as
too few adults to assist in the presentation and chaperone
the rehearsals. So, for the first time, we will not have the
traditional presentation by the children that is just before
the 6PM Christmas Eve Mass. Of course, the 6:30PM
Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated, as usual.
ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS
 The next meeting is on Sunday, November 6th after
the 9:30 Mass.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl group will not meet during November and
December as they are working on the scarves for the Baby
Shower. The goal is 100 scarves and if anyone would like
to help at home stop by for yarn. The next meeting will be
January 18th at 10:30AM.
ST. ANNE SOCIETY
The St. Anne Society held their Social this past week and it
was well attended at Giovanna’s Restaurant and those that
attended had the opportunity to spend some social time
together and relax for a little while. Theresa Cosmas was
an excellent hostess and organizer!

AND DEMONSTRATION BY TIFFANY WILSON
On Tuesday, November 29th at 6:30PM in the Parish
Center, the St. Anne Society will sponsor a presentation by

OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY MAKERS
Our Lady Rosary Makers just gave out rosaries to all the
Religious Education students and families, to the Norwood
Nursing Home, and to the Pastoral Care Office of Robert
Wood Johnson University Hospital. The next meeting is
Monday, November 7th at 6:30PM in the Parish Center. You
are welcome to join in the fellowship and fun making rosary
beads.

ADULT CHOIR
The Choir regularly meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30PM
in Church.
JUNIOR CHOIR
The Junior Choir has been part of our Celebration at both
the 9:30 and the 11 o’clock Masses this past weekend in
both English and Polish, respectively, and they were a
beautiful addition to our celebration. The Junior Choir
rehearses on Wednesday after Religious education
classes.
INSTRUMENTALISTS
Students or adults, rusty amateur or seasoned pro, whether
you play the trumpet or trombone, flute or clarinet or a
stringed instrument, we can use your talents!
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on a
regular basis on Saturdays at 5 PM and on Sunday
mornings after the 8, 9:30, and 11 o’clock Masses as
well as after weekday Masses simply by requesting the
celebration of the Sacrament.
CELEBRATING THE SAINTS IN MOVIES
On Sunday, November 6thth after the 9:30 Mass, through the
efforts of Mike Dias and John Beckman, we will preview a
movie about St. John Baptist De La Salle. It is 90 min.. He
was a priest in the 17th Century from a wealthy upper-class
family who reluctantly becomes involved in educating poor
children and in the process became the founder of the Brothers
of the Christian Schools, an order known today as the La Salle
Christian Brothers. The movie stars Mel Ferrar. All are
welcome to attend the showing in the Parish Center.
REMEMBRANCE OF
ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED
On Saturday, November 5th at the 5:30 PM Mass
we will incorporate the psalms from the Evening
Prayer of the Faithful Departed and call the names
of those who have died this year and are
associated with the Parish. If you have a member
of your family who has died this year and would like
to have them included please be in touch with Fr.

The Mass of anticipation is on Monday evening at 7PM in
English. Masses on the Holy Day are at 9AM and 12 noon

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP
The Caregiver’s Support Group is a group for those caring
for elderly or chronically ill loved ones and they meet at St.
Helen’s in Westfield on the first non-holiday Monday of each
month at 7:30PM. For information call Marilyn Ryan at 908232-1214. The next meeting will be on Monday, November
7th at 7:30PM.
“BESTCHURCH” SENIORS
The Senior Group will have their next meeting on Thursday,
December 15th at 1PM in the Parish Center. That is the
Christmas Party.
 Hunterdon Hills Playhouse Trip…The Christmas
Show at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse on
Monday, November 21st. The cost is $75 which
includes a lunch and great desserts and a
spectacular Christmas Show. Call the office and
make your reservation.
SAINT BARTHOLOMEW ACADEMY
The fall season is a fun season for all the students at the
Academy. The Kindergarten children have taken a walking
tour of downtown Scotch Plains and visited the firehouse
where they were given a tour of the equipment and the fire
fighters spoke to them about the importance of fire safety.
The students also made a pilgrimage around the campus
and visited the many statues of St. Francis. They likened a
pilgrimage to a “holy parade” which is a great image. They
now look forward to their celebration of All Saints where
they will offer information about assigned Saints.
The Academy is a perfect place for a Catholic Education
founded on learning a true Catholic way of life and achieving
excellence in academics. The students are nurtured and

READERS AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED
Our numbers are in sore need of assistance! We could use
several more folks who would like to proclaim the word of
God at Mass as well as those who would assist in the
distribution of Communion. There are available spots for
every Mass and these Ministries are of great importance. If
you are interested or if you would like to discuss it, please
be in touch with Fr. Frank.
NON-PERISHABLE FOOD COLLECTION
We are continuing to collect non-perishable foods. The food
will go to those in our Plainfield area and will be distributed
in conjunction with The Salvation Army here in Plainfield.
Food goes to the open area of the Church.
THE WOMEN’S GROUP PRESENTS…..
“A Girl’s Late Night Out” is being scheduled! This is a
Wine, Prayer, and Painting Evening in November from 69:30PM in the Parish Center. The cost will be $40 and will
include all the painting supplies, wine and refreshments.
Registration will be limited and payment will be due when
registering. The date is set for Tuesday, November 15th
so you are welcome to call the office and make your
reservation for a fun-filled evening.

GET-A-GRIP:
Get-A-Grip will meet on Sunday, November 6th at the
9:30AM Mass and the 11AM Polish Mass. Students in the
7th grade through high school are all encouraged to attend.

“But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord,
‘Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the
poor, and if I extorted anything from anyone I shall
repay it four times over.” We are all called to
graciously give back to the Lord in proportion to the
blessings we have been given. This means everyone
isn’t called to give the same amount, but is called to
give equal sacrifice. No amount is too small or
insignificant! Open your heart, how is God calling
you?

What is “salvation?” “Salvation,” in general, means
release from difficulty, danger, loss, or other
crippling circumstances. We may be saved from
such things as illness, ignorance, starvation,
danger, and lost hope. There is a great deal about
this in the Old Testament, mainly because of the
Hebrews’ tendency to identify God’s favor with
physical and material well-being. The word
“salvation” also means deliverance from sin and its
consequences. What, then, might be a synonym for
the word “salvation”? “Escape” hardly fits because
it implies something we ourselves accomplish, as in:
“I was able to escape.” “Salvation” certainly
requires our willingness and our participation, but
the word usually assumes the involvement of
transcendent realities, as well. We do not save
ourselves. Words such as “rescue,” “deliverance,”
“redemption” may seem a bit daunting, but their
meanings are understandable. “Salvation” requires
a “saving agent” or a “savior,” as well as someone
needing to be “saved.”
For the Christian faith salvation means a
right relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
This is why Jesus is repeatedly referred to as the
“Savior,” the Saving One. Perhaps the most
pressing, most significant question where
“salvation” is concerned is: “’Salvation’ from what?”
We have all heard these phrases: saved from sin,
saved from going astray, saved from judgment,
saved from hell, saved from spiritual death. This
means there is a direct connection between Jesus
Christ, human sinfulness, and salvation. But
salvation does not automatically follow on the
sacrificial death of Jesus. What he did for us must
be appropriated by each one of us, which is the act
of faith. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, but the
gift has its own proper conditions, and it lays on
those who receive it its own proper demands.
“Salvation” may not be something we
humans can offer each other. But we can play a role
in the drama that makes it possible. What did Jesus
do for Zacchaeus that changed his life? He simply
asked to be his friend and his guest. Something no
one else offered. Jesus gave him what we all need:
affirmation, acceptance, friendship. Finally,
someone was in his life who believed in him!
Sometimes that is all a person needs. Sometimes
saving faith is knowing that we are loved. Salvation
is faith’s gift. Love is salvation’s gift.
Transformation is love’s gift.
