ADVERTISING
Magazine space is no-cost to organizations or individuals caring for
animals who need homes. Monthly business sponsorship rates are $300/
150/75/35 for a full-page/half-page/quarter-page/business card ad in color,
and $200/100/50/25 for grayscale ads. A one year subscription is $25.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
Each organization in Critter has its own adoption criteria. All organizations
require an adoption contract and a fee to recoup basic expenses. All will
require that your adoptee be a pet, not merely a utility animal for protection
or hunting. Most will ensure that the animals are spayed or neutered at
the time of adoption; those that don’t will require a spay/neuter contract
and a deposit that will be refunded upon proof of spay or neuter. Most will
want to visit your home and see where the pet will live. Because many
of these animals have not been well treated in the past, extra care is
taken to ensure their safety and happiness in the future.

The Stray Connection has taken in 16 cats
from the Grainger County hoarding case
that was discovered in early March. Five of
the cats are pictured below. Following is a

“When we first saw them, they were dripping
with urine and matted with feces. They were

bathe them, during which they welcomed the warm water and affection as the filth just poured off. They began to purr as we washed
them down, as to say ‘thank you.’ They are now soft and clean. We applied a flea preventative, cleaned their ears, and wormed them.
We could feel every bone in their body as we continued to dry them off...and they continued to purr. These precious cats were
sincerely desperate for love and affection. We put down bowls of food and fresh water (which we still refill twice a day)..and they
began to gobble down the grub like they had not been fed in weeks. After only a few hours of adjustment and building trust they
began to come out from the shadows and allow us to love on them again. Today, they are the most genuinely
appreciative and affectionate cats I have worked with. They run up to you the moment we walk in the room,
calling for attention, purring as loud as they can.”
