PROGRAM DATES Program Registration Information • • • • Register online at www.springfieldymca.org or at the front desk at either branch for Y classes and programs. Join the Y within 30 days of paying non-member fees and receive a credit for the difference between your nonmember and member rate to be applied to your joining fee. Lightning Policy: The Springfield YMCA closes its indoor pools when lightning is within a 6 mile radius of the branch. We monitor weather information during inclement weather. Due to the distance between our branches, one Y may have pools that are open when the other Y is closed. In an effort to reduce any inconvenience to our members, the Y notifies of closing via our Facebook page, Twitter, and our smart phone app push notifications. We will post closings as quickly as possible. If there are storms in the area, we recommend you check one of these resources or call either branch before heading to the Y for a swim. Program Credit Guidelines • • • • • • • There are no make-up classes, credits or refunds for missed classes or changes in a child/families personal schedule. Exceptions will be made for those participants with medical emergencies. Documentation may be requested. The Y reserves the right to cancel a class due to low participation. In the event this happens, registrants will receive a full refund. If the YMCA cancels a program due to staff or facility difficulties, the Y will provide a credit for the missed class on members’ accounts. Credits will expire in 12 months. If the YMCA cancels a class/program due to inclement weather, the Y will not issue a credit for the first occurrence within a session. The Y will provide a credit on members accounts for subsequent occurrences within a single session. Credits on member accounts will expire after 12 months. Credits will not be issued for sport leagues/programs held at outdoor fields; however, the Y will provide make up games for weather cancellations as often as possible. Request to withdraw from a class/program for refund must be submitted one week prior to the first class/game. After the second class within a session, there will be no participant transfers. Classes are not held on holidays, special event or swim meet dates when the Y facilities are closed. Classes effected by YMCA holiday/event closings are prorated prior to payment. 15 Fall 1 (8 weeks) August 29 - October 23, 2016 Registration Starts: August 1, 2016 (Members) August 8, 2016 (Public) Fall 2 (8 weeks) October 24- December 18, 2016 Registration Starts: October 10, 2016 (Members) October 17, 2016 (Public) Did you know? In December 1891, at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, MA, the school’s director gave P.E. teacher James Naismith two weeks to come up with an indoor winter game to challenge a class of future Y directors. Naismith hung peach baskets to the bottom of a second-level running track and taught the men his new game: basketball. Today, basketball is second only to soccer as the most popular sport in the world. There are 8 basketballs hidden in this brochure. While you and your child are looking for great Y programs, circle each basketball and write the page numbers below. Bring this brochure in to either Y branch and have your child show it to the front desk to receive a prize! page 15 SPRINGFIELD YMCA 2016 FALL PROGRAM GUIDE welcome to the WE ARE FOR...
