Welcome!
This packet details the resources and procedures for using the spaces, equipment, and computers in
Studio 300. Read through these pages carefully and see how Studio 300 can help you create, curate, and
share your personal stories.
Eligibility
Fountaindale Public Library cardholders in good standing are eligible to use the computers, equipment,
collaboration suites, and production spaces. Cardholders 18 and up may check out equipment,
collaboration suites and production spaces for use in Studio 300 and other equipment that is available
for 3-day checkout. Parents of children under age 12 may check out Studio 300 equipment, suites and
collaboration rooms for their child on their own adult Fountaindale Public Library card as long as the
parent has attended a Studio 300 orientation and will be present at all times. A teen between the ages of
12-17 years old may check out Studio 300 equipment, suites and collaboration rooms only if a parent
has signed a waiver allowing the teen to check out in their absence. In the event that a waiver has been
signed, the teen and parent will have their library accounts linked. The teen will then be able to check out
equipment, rooms or suites on his or her parent’s card without the parent present.
Orientation
All patrons wishing to use the Studio 300 equipment, collaboration suites, and production spaces must
attend an orientation session. During that time you will learn about all the available resources, get basic
instruction on accessing them, and be shown all the procedures involved. This document supplements
that orientation session.
Orientation is not necessary to use the Studio 300 iMac computers.
After completing the orientation process, your Library record will be updated to reflect your eligibility
to use the Studio 300 equipment, collaboration suites, and production spaces. There is a 24 hour waiting
period between orientation and use of equipment or suites.
Studio Services staff or Circulation Services staff will take your photograph for your library account.

for 3-day checkout. Parents of children under age 12 may check out Studio 300 equipment, suites and

out equipment, rooms or suites on his or her parent’s card without the parent present.
You must physically present your valid Fountaindale Public Library card every time you check out

fully responsible for any damage or misuse.
All patrons must fill out the Studio 300 Equipment Checkout form and sign the waiver on the form
before equipment will be released. Your complete contact information must be entered on this form
every time along with your valid Fountaindale Public Library card number. The Studio Services Desk
will fill in the specific equipment details on the form. Allow 10-15 minutes to check out equipment
as it must be checked and tested before leaving the Studio Services Desk. Patrons are responsible for
returning all equipment directly to Studio 300 staff on time and in good condition (see Penalties on
page 11). Equipment checkouts totaling $500.00 and above will require a credit card (and accompanying

General Studio 300 Guidelines
Here are a few reminders to make your time in Studio 300 a better experience for everyone.
Food and Drink: Food should be eaten at the café tables on the first floor. Patrons may have covered
drinks on any floor of the library. We do not recommend any type of drink at the computers.
Noise: Due to the creative and collaborative nature of Studio 300, there is no guarantee of a silent
atmosphere. All Studio 300 visitors are asked to be respectful of each other and of the Library’s conduct
policy regarding noise. Headphone use is encouraged but not required at the computer workstations.
Content Creation and Copyright: Studio 300 created content must conform to acceptable community
and legal standards.
Collaboration: The Studio 300 iMac computers are designed for collaboration. There is a maximum of
two people at any single computer station and three people at a dual monitor station. There are group
collaboration suites available for small groups up to six to collaborate using laptop computers.
Free Access: Library personnel must have free access to the Studio 300 production spaces at all times.
The Library retains the right to monitor all activity conducted on Library premises for the purpose of
ensuring compliance with Library rules and regulations.
Use of Personal Devices: Studio 300 visitors are encouraged to connect personal devices to Studio
300 equipment; however, support for such equipment may not necessarily be available. Library staff
will not troubleshoot personal equipment brought into Studio 300 and may disconnect personal devices
which interfere with the operation of Library equipment or ability of other users to complete projects.
Compatibility of personal devices with Studio 300 hardware and software is never guaranteed.
Content ownership: The Library reserves the right to erase user files left on Library owned hard drives
and removable media without prior notice.
Content use: Fountaindale Public Library District reserves the right to use content created in Studio
300 spaces and photo, video or audio taken during programming to promote Library services. This may
mean posting photos, videos or other content to our website and social networking accounts. However,
your privacy is important to us. If you would like us to keep your work or likeness private, please contact
a Studio 300 staff member.

Do...
The Do’s and the Don’ts
… Store your work using external storage (portable hard drive, flash drive, etc.)
… Use the equipment as it is intended to be used.
… Treat the computer, equipment, and space as if it is your own.
… Check in/out when using computers and production spaces.
… Create some cool projects using all the resources available to you (and share your best work with all of
us, too).
… Ask for help at the Studio Services Desk. We are ready to assist you. Really.
Don’t...
… Change the audio, video, or computer configurations in any way.
… Bring food or uncovered drinks into Studio 300.
… Misuse equipment or computers.
… Neglect to mention Studio 300 when you win your first Emmy or Oscar.
… Be afraid to ask for help. Studio 300 staff is eager to show you workflow, tips, and techniques.
Please note: The staff will not convert media for you or finalize projects. You need to be present at all
times while projects are digitizing and/or rendering. Exceptions may be made in rare cases, such as when
extended rendering is required and is made at the Studio Services Manager discretion.
Training
We want you to fully understand the equipment that you use so that you can get the most from it. Studio
Services staff are available during all hours of operation and will attempt to assist you at the point of
need with hardware and software problems. In-depth questions may require a training appointment.
Comprehensive online training, eBook, and book resources are also available.
Scheduled one-on-one training sessions with the Studio 300 staff is highly encouraged and is intended for
assistance with Studio 300 supported software and equipment. To schedule training, use our Studio 300
Training Request form. Appointments will not be accepted for extensive artistic or design consultation or
general computing questions.
There are also regular programs throughout the year that provide basic introduction to the software,
equipment, and media creation techniques used in Studio 300. Check the library calendar of events regularly
for details and to register.
For up-to-date information, along with a collection of project ideas and how-to solutions to common
problems, visit the Fountaindale Public Library Studio 300 blog and YouTube channel at

Suite checkout
Audio/video suites and the group collaboration rooms are available in session lengths of up to four hours
for a maximum of eight hours per month, per cardholder, on a first come, first served basis.
A person’s own valid Fountaindale Public Library card is required to use and reserve Studio 300 suites
and collaboration rooms. You must physically present your valid Fountaindale Public Library card every
time you check out a suite. Guest passes and other forms of identification are not accepted.
Fountaindale Public Library cardholders in good standing are eligible to use the computers,
equipment, collaboration suites, and production spaces. Cardholders 18 and up may check out
equipment, collaboration suites and production spaces for use in Studio 300 and other equipment that
is available for 3-day checkout. Parents of children under age 12 may check out Studio 300 equipment,
suites and collaboration rooms for their child on their own adult Fountaindale Public Library card
as long as the parent has attended a Studio 300 orientation and will be present at all times. A teen
between the ages of 12-17 years old may check out Studio 300 equipment, suites and collaboration
rooms only if a parent has signed a waiver allowing the teen to check out in their absence. In the event
that a waiver has been signed, the teen and parent will have their library accounts linked. The teen will
then be able to check out equipment, rooms or suites on his or her parent’s card without the parent
present.
All patrons must sign the waiver before the suite will be released. The library cardholder who reserves
the space is considered the main user and is fully responsible for any damage or misuse of the production
space. The cardholder responsible for the event booking must be present at all times, with the exception
of parents who sign for their teens, ages 12 through 17.
Rooms may not be left unattended while reserved and in use. If the responsible cardholder leaves their
own reserved space unattended without notifying Studio 300 staff (even if others are present in their
group), the reservation will be immediately forfeited and future reservations may be denied.
Suites must be used for their intended purpose (audio suites for audio/music, video suites for photo/
video production, and group collaboration for small group meetings).
Suites have specific capacity limits and may not be exceeded.
Staff can assist with transferring equipment to the audio/video production spaces and the group
conferencing suites.

Responsibility
Reservations
You are fully responsible for any equipment
or suites you check out. All suites and
equipment will be in good working order when
issued to you. However, we urge you to check
everything yourself and report any malfunctions
before signing the Studio 300 Equipment or
Room Checkout Form and Waiver and leaving
the Studio Services Desk. All equipment and
suites will be inspected upon return by the
Studio Services Staff and any problems will be
reported at that time. Make sure you read the
waiver carefully before signing the Studio 300
Equipment or Room Checkout form.
The audio/video production suites and
collaboration suites and any necessary noncirculating equipment may be reserved by valid
Fountaindale Public Library cardholders who
have completed a Studio 300 orientation in
session lengths of up to four (4) hours on a first
come, first served basis.
Reservations are accepted up to 90 days in
advance from the current date and deposits are
not required. Availability is not guaranteed and
reservations are encouraged.
Reservations will be held for 15 minutes. After
that the production suite and equipment will be
made available to others.
Computer Use
We do not reserve the desktop computers
except for pre-scheduled training sessions.
Computer session lengths are two (2)
hours and are available to Fountaindale
Public Library cardholders. Additional time
beyond that may be granted in 30 minute
increments up to four hours per day at Staff
discretion and as long as other patrons are
not waiting to use the computer. Additional
time beyond that may be granted by staff in
30 minute increments with no limit as long as
approximately 10% of the computers in the
area remain available.
Color and 3D Printing
Studio 300 includes a color laser, color poster, and 3D printer. The laser printer has Pantone and
PictBridge support and can handle paper sizes from 3.5” x 5.5” to 11” x 17” with full-bleed. The poster
printer accommodates sizes up to 40” x 60”. And the 3D printer can build pieces up to 410 cubic inches
or 11.2” x 6.0” x 6.1”.
Blank media
You are responsible for providing your own blank media for your projects. We recommend a portable
Hard Drive or a high-capacity flash drive. You can purchase blank CDs and DVDs and high-capacity
flash drives from the Studio 300 Service Desk.

Penalties
Circulating Equipment
Circulating equipment that is checked out for more than
7 days (held overdue for five days) or is returned damaged
will be billed to the cardholder for the full replacement cost
for the overdue or damaged item plus any overdue fines.
Damaged items will not be discharged from the cardholder’s
account until they are paid for in full.
The Library does not offer refunds for lost items that have
been paid. Cardholders who have outstanding charges for
lost or damaged equipment will be denied Studio borrowing
privileges until the charges are reconciled.
Equipment usage privileges will be revoked due to careless
handling of library owned equipment, repeated tardiness in returning library owned equipment, or damage.
Note: unattended library equipment is considered careless handling.
A $25.00 fine will be assigned to equipment returned anywhere but the Studio Services staff desk. A $25.00
processing fee will be assigned to any lost item.
Fair Use and Copyright
U.S. copyright law provisions for fair use of music, artwork, photos, videos, and other creative works
are extremely restrictive. Each person is personally responsible for knowing the copyright status of any
material included in their digital media projects.
Computers and the Library network may not be used to illegally upload, download, or copy copyrighted
materials including software, music, videos, and graphics. This includes the use of online services that
facilitate the unlicensed sharing of media files. Duplication of commercial CDs or DVDs is not permitted.
Concerns about copyright infringement extend to the use of equipment to duplicate copyright-protected
documents and graphic materials. Each patron assumes all responsibility for observing copyright restrictions
when using scanners in the library.
