PARTNER FOR FULL RANGE OF CLEANING,
MANUFACTURING AND INSPECTION PRODUCTS
Whether weld-cleaning tools are used for tough on or offshore
explorations jobs, in construction yards, on pontoons, drill rigs
or steel framework, users depend on the reliability and safe
performance of Osborn products. High-alloy, stainless steel
or V4A nonferrous quality wires are the first choice tools for
all material-sensitive cleaning jobs, including silicate, slag or
rust removal and descaling. The brushes are designed to fit
all types of existing equipment such as angle grinders, highspeed pneumatic tools and regular hand drills. Using Osborn
brushes in pipeline construction for weld cleaning has a lower
thermal impact on pipe surfaces as well as significant overall
quality benefits including lowering the chances of corrosion,
grooving and micro fissures. Osborn is the all-around service
provider for brush solutions in the pipe-coating industry, covering the full spectrum from contact brushes to set continuous
electric contacts in pipe-welding factories to transport rollers
designed for installation in the hot zone.
MIG, MAG, TIG and hand welding create different debris,
causing users to rely on weld-cleaning tools to finish the job.
Welding engineers trust Osborn wire brushes, which are nonstock removing leaving the welded base material untouched,
for safety, performance and long service life.

50/50 by Enterprise and Occidental. The plant, which is
supported by long-term, firm contracts, is expected to begin operations in mid-2016. Enterprise will serve as the
construction manager and operator of the Delaware Basin
Processing plant. In addition to the processing plant, Enterprise will construct, own and operate a 12-inch diameter pipeline that will transport natural gas liquids (“NGL”)
from the new facility to one of Enterprise’s NGL pipelines,
which will provide customers with access to Enterprise’s
NGL fractionation and storage complex in Mont Belvieu,
Texas. The partnership’s Texas Intrastate pipeline system
will provide natural gas at the tailgate of the plant with access to multiple markets.
Enterprise Products Partners L.P. announced it has executed long-term agreements that support development
of a new 416-mile, 24-inch diameter pipeline to transport
crude oil and condensate from the company’s Midland,

the project to be approximately $156.4 million. Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2017.
The staff of the FERC will prepare an Environmental Assessment that will discuss the environmental impacts of
the Abandonment and Capacity Restoration Project
involving abandonment of facilities by Tennessee Gas
Pipeline Company, LLC. Tennessee proposes to abandon in place and remove from service approximately 964
miles of Tennessee’s existing pipelines that run from
Natchitoches Parish, LA, to Columbiana County, Ohio.
Tennessee currently operates six parallel pipelines that
transport natural gas from the Gulf of Mexico region to the
Northeast markets. The proposed project would occur on
Tennessee’s existing 100 and 200 Lines. In order to replace capacity that would be lost due to the abandonment,

Bandit moved into a new rebuild facility in October of
2014, increasing its capacity for rebuilding used machines. The move also freed up construction space in
the forestry mower and Beast buildings, allowing the
forestry mower area to double its production and allowing the Beast recycler line to increase production
by 25 percent.
A new electronics facility was finished in November
2014, allowing for increased production of electronic
control panels harnesses used on all Bandit equipment. The new facility is now building all of the new
control panels and proportional drives that are now
featured on all of Bandit’s Tier 4 engine options.

making it happen
“In February of this year, we moved into a new facility to build drum chipper heads for our hand-fed chippers, whole tree chippers and Beast recyclers, along
with the rotors for our forestry mower lines,” said Jerry
Morey, president of Bandit Industries. “The new facility freed up production areas in our hand-fed drum
chipper area, which is allowing us to increase production in that area by 50 percent.”
On April 1, Bandit Industries moved into an expansion of its whole tree manufacturing facility, increasing
production of its whole tree chippers by 50 percent,
Morey added.
“These four expansions have allowed us to add 80
full-time employees and add much-needed production,” Morey said. “Surging demand for our products
over the past two years has increased lead times longer than I like, and at times has cost us orders. The
additional production capacity will reduce lead times
by the end of the second quarter,” Morey said.

PROPOSED PROJECTS & UPDATES
Enbridge
Working Together With TransCanada And Kinder Morgan
To Evaluate Aerial-Based Pipeline Safety Technologies
Three North American pipeline industry leaders - Enbridge Pipelines Inc., TransCanada Corporation, and
Kinder Morgan Canada have signed a Joint Industry
Partnership (JIP) agreement
to conduct research into
aerial-based leak detection
technologies, in the interest
of enhancing across-theboard pipeline safety.
“Kinder Morgan is pleased to be participating in this project as
part of our systematic approach to leak detection, and our fundamental philosophy of continuous improvement and safe operations,” says Dan Carter, Director of Central Region and Control
Centre, Kinder Morgan Canada. “We look forward to working collaboratively with TransCanada, Enbridge, C-FER Technologies,
and the participating vendors as part of this evaluation process.”
Kinder Morgan, Enbridge, and TransCanada have each committed $200,000 to this partnership agreement. All three companies
involved in this partnership agreement will share equally in the
new knowledge and advancements that can be applied directly
to improve safety and efficiency in their respective operations.
This partnership illustrates a spirit of collaboration among TransCanada, Kinder Morgan and Enbridge in the continued common
pursuit of industry-wide safety and operational excellence. It
also demonstrates the partners’ commitment to investing in the
leading-edge tools and technologies that can bolster safety and
reliability, while at the same time addressing public demands for
responsible pipeline development.
Potential technologies to be tested may include infrared camerabased systems, laser-based spectroscopy systems, and flame
ionization detection systems, with sensors suitable for mounting
on light aircraft or helicopters. Representatives of Enbridge and
C-FER Technologies are currently surveying commercial vendors
of these airborne leak detection technologies to validate their
feasibility for liquid hydrocarbon pipelines. Project research and
trials are expected to begin during the third quarter of 2015.
The goal of the project is to identify technologies capable of viably detecting small leaks from liquid petroleum pipeline systems
to improve pipeline safety. The project is expected to involve
laboratory research and field trials to evaluate the feasibility of
commercially available aerial-based leak detection technologies,
for use with crude oil and hydrocarbon liquids pipelines. The partnership includes a funding commitment from all three companies.
Data analysis will be conducted by Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures, and testing will be carried out by project research
partner C-FER Technologies (1999) Inc. of Edmonton.
A previous Joint Industry Partnership (JIP) - which was established by TransCanada and Enbridge, and now includes Kinder
Morgan - has already yielded groundbreaking leak detection research using a state-of-the-art pipeline simulator known as the
External Leak Detection Experimental Research (ELDER) test
apparatus.
“We are committed to identify, develop and test new technologies
to further progress key areas of pipeline safety, such as leak detection. Through collaboration with committed industry partners,
we continue to make important advancements with leak detection technology,” says Kirk Byrtus, Enbridge’s Vice President of
Pipeline Control. “This extension to the Joint Industry Partnership
is another great example of the pipeline industry connecting to
make important advancements with leak detection technology,
and we look forward to closely working with our partners, TransCanada and Kinder Morgan.”
“Pipelines are widely accepted as the safest and most efficient
way to transport oil and gas, and TransCanada continues to
strive for zero leaks or safety incidents on our pipelines,” says
Vern Meier, TransCanada’s Vice President of Pipeline Safety and
Compliance. “Joining forces with Kinder Morgan and Enbridge
helps us maximize research potential and reach new levels of
technological innovation to improve our industry as a whole.”
28
www.pipelinejobs.com | June 2015
“The challenge with airborne leak detection systems is not with
the aircraft, but with selecting appropriate sensors to detect liquid hydrocarbon leaks before they reach the surface,” says Brian Wagg, Director of Business Development and Planning for
C-FER Technologies.
“This program helps operating companies understand which
technologies are best suited for detecting these leaks, and will
provide vendors with unique information on what leaks actually
look like. This information will help those vendors fine-tune their
systems to detect leaks with greater reliability.”
Meanwhile, work on the ELDER leak detection project, originally
announced in December 2013 by Enbridge and TransCanada,
continues at C-FER Technologies’ Edmonton research facility.
Enbridge and TransCanada have each committed $1.6-million to
the ELDER project, while Kinder Morgan has committed $1-million. The project has a total funding commitment of more than
$6-million.
Engineers from C-FER Technologies, Enbridge and TransCanada performed a series of tests throughout 2014 on four external
leak-detection technologies - vapor sensing tubes, fiber-optic
distributed temperature sensing (DTS) systems, hydrocarbonsensing cables and fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensing (DAS)
systems. All engineering and test data is shared among committed project partners.
Since 2013, the ELDER program has carried out four tests, and
collected data from the 13 participating vendors, representing hundreds of recorded leaks in the ELDER apparatus. Data analysis
is ongoing, but some participating vendors have already reviewed
test results with the intention of using them to improve their systems. The ELDER program is expected to continue into 2016.

NuStar and CHS
Expand Pipeline And Terminal Infrastructure To Transport
And Store Propane In Upper Midwest U.S.
NuStar Energy L.P. and CHS Inc. announced that the
companies are pursuing a strategic alliance to develop an
expanded pipeline and terminal network that will increase
supply of propane to meet product demand in the Upper
Midwest.
“We are excited to pursue this strategic alliance with NuStar. The investments support our long-term commitment
as a reliable supplier of propane,” said Andrew Combs,
CHS vice president, propane. “These projects will enhance
the overall efficiency of our distribution system and assist
our customers’ continued growth.”
“WE ARE EXCITED TO PURSUE THIS STRATEGIC
ALLIANCE WITH NUSTAR. THE INVESTMENTS
SUPPORT OUR LONG-TERM COMMITMENT AS A
RELIABLE SUPPLIER OF PROPANE.”
CHS is the nation’s leading farmer-owned cooperative and
global energy, grains and foods business and a leading propane supplier in the region. This agreement will increase
making it happen
the availability and dependability of the propane supply in
the Upper Midwest by utilizing NuStar’s pipeline and terminal network that connects to Conway, Kan., a Midwest hub
for propane storage and fractionation facilities. As part of
this agreement, NuStar will increase the volume of propane
moved in its Central East pipeline and terminal system. The
related capital investments will be backed by long-term,
dedicated throughput and storage agreements with CHS.
Key projects under development include construction of an
eight-mile, eight-inch pipeline at NuStar’s Conway, Kan.,
origin facility, which is near the southern end of NuStar’s
East Refined Products Pipeline System. The new pipeline and modifications to the origin facility will allow for increased propane supply to be sourced from Conway, Kan.,
for delivery to propane terminals on the system. NuStar will
also expand its Rock Rapids, Iowa, terminal to include propane services. This terminal expansion will allow NuStar to
gain more efficiencies in an underutilized facility, and allow
CHS to better supply the region with propane. All of these
projects are projected to be completed by the fourth quarter
of 2015.

APT 01 - License or Entire Patent for Sale
Cathodic protection is a large part of the concern for the
owners and operators of pipelines, facilities and offshore
structures. For quite a few years the methods to install anodes
and anode bracelets have hardly changed.
There is now an invention that changes much of the installation parameters for anode bracelets. That change is The
Anode Placement Tool. It operates with a hydraulic over mechanical function that decreases the physical danger to the
installers by elimination of sledge hammers, jacks with cables
and a host of related injury problems. By operating the anode
placement tool there is a lessening of danger to installation
personnel. There is improved quality by lessening the strikes
of a hammer thereby providing a smoother surface with less
spalls and cracks than otherwise installed anode bracelets.
This tool is now on the market for License or the entire patent
is for sale.
The APT 01 is a tool to place Anode Bracelets on pipeline
pipe and can also be deployed as an ROV unit to place Anode
Bracelets on submarine pipelines and offshore platforms.
In its land use it is estimated that the APT 01 can place a 48inch anode bracelet on a pipeline pipe in a coating yard in approximately one minute with no damage to the anode bracelet.
The basic system in use today and for the past 45 years has
been damaging to the anode, making risks to those persons
within sledge hammer range. Increases need to be aware
of risks. The total life of the engineered design for corrosion
purposes is diminished by having the surface spalled and
cracked in numerous places. The current system in use is
to wrap a chain or cable around the circumference of the
anode bracelet and assisted with a modified hydraulic jack,
hammer and jack until the anode bracelet conforms to the
pipe. This causes spalling of the surface and cracks so that
when put into service, the anode bracelet does not have a
smooth and regular surface and in turn shortens the life of
the anode bracelet. The elapsed time of installation for the
current method can be as long as one hour.
The first choice
for finishing solutions.
Call Osborn first! Our brushes
clean off silicate, slag and
spatter faster. They are also
ideal for shielded gas welding
applications. Ask us about our
material-sensitive brushes (nonstock removing) that create less
spark and noise.
“The risk factor and liability factor for the installation personnel
is lowered while the safety factor increases due to the change of
the system being used in the installation process.”
Whether it’s decreasing
downtime, increasing parts per
brush or training your people,
the Osborn team will provide
you with the right solution
to your metal cleaning and
prepping challenges…with more
than 10,000 standard products
backed by expert local support.
The APT 01 system uses hydraulic force to grip and conform the anode bracelet to the pipe. Since there is no hammering there are only microscopic cracks in the surface of
the anode bracelet where the casting of the anode breaks
as it is installed. The anode placement tool system also diminishes the amount of labor force needed
for the installation. The anode placement
tool is on a carrier device. The design criteria of the projected life of the anode is
greatly increased.

When you start with Osborn,
you finish first.
The APT 01 system can be used in an ROV
mode to refresh the cathodic protection on
older pipelines by replacing expended anode bracelets with new anode bracelets.
Offshore structures can have new anode
bracelets installed thereby reducing the
amount of impressed cathodic protection of
that structure . This includes subsea trees.
New Catalog!
With the prolonged life span of oilfield
products and maturing fields where recovery span is being limited by the cost of impressed current and passive anode bracelets that are expended, there is now an
alternative available for license or for sale.
A field unit, whether it be onshore or offshore - wherever it might be can have added life value to the structure and enhance
the recoverable assets.

Pasadena where he served in many leadership roles
as well as singing in the choir. Charles was also active on various committees with the City of Pasadena,

Mary as she succumbed to Alzheimer’s. Mary went to
Heaven this year on January 22. Charles had many interests including sports, music, dancing, gardening and
cooking. Together with Mary, they traveled the world
making many lifelong friends. Ballroom dancing was an
enduring passion and they were an elegant couple on

Heaven to their favorite tune, “Could I Have This Dance
for the Rest of My Life?” When Charles turned 55 he
