It’s a festival of experiences!
There is so much happening in Downtown Kamloops
that we had to give it a name! The Festival of
Experiences kicks off May 19 with the beginning of our
annual Spring Festival and runs straight throughout
until September.
Along with our 6500 residents, we have more than
10,000 people who come into the downtown core
on a daily basis for a myriad of reasons. They are
shoppers and workers, visitors and vacationers. They
come for the experiences, the services we provide,
the wonderfully unique shops and restaurants, our
arts scene and much, much more. Time and time
again, Downtown Kamloops has been touted for
being the most absolutely friendly neighbourhood, a
characteristic that is not easy to forget.
Our Festival of Experiences includes all of these great
events below as well as a myriad of other experiences

PARKS
More than just shopping and services, Downtown
Kamloops also has a variety of natural attractions
and parkland ready to explore. Whether you like to
hike, swim, run or bike… there is something for you.
Stroll, walk or bike the Rivers Trail which takes you
through Pioneer Park and Riverside Park which also
both have great access to the river on a hot and sunny
day. Families with little ones love the playground and spray
park at Riverside Park (2nd & Lorne) and the wading pool at
Prince Charles Park (11th & Columbia) and families with four
legged friends love the dog friendly beach at Pioneer Park and
hiking the trails at Petersen Creek Park. Downtown pocket parks,
Memorial Hill & St. Andrews on the Square are perfect for lunch
or some quiet downtime. Go outside and enjoy the nature Downtown
Kamloops has to offer! Refer to the map on page 29.

Kamloops has a rich and deep history rooted
in the furtrade and building of the railway.
There are a few heritage sites of note here
in Downtown Kamloops. These include the
Old Courthouse Cultural Centre, which is
home to the Kamloops Arts Council Gallery,
Courthouse Gallery Cooperative and Arnica
Artist Run Centre. There is also St. Andrews
on the Square, Brownstone Restaurant, Old
Cigar Factory and Stuart Wood Elementary.
You can get up close and personal with the
history of the area by picking up a Heritage
Walking Tour Brochure from the Kamloops
Museum & Archives located at the corner of
2nd & Seymour St. To cover the entire route
(30 properties) you can expect to spend two
hours at a leisurely pace.

Back Alley Art Gallery
Downtown Kamloops’ collection of back alley murals has become an attractant for
tourists and locals alike. The project which was started as a deterrent to graffiti
in our back alleyways has blossomed into a full fledged gallery featuring 19 large
scale pieces of art work that adorn the alleyways.
People from all walks of life stop by to admire the art work. There is a map on page
28 which you can use to follow the downtown art trail or for a more comprehensive
look at the gallery you can join the Customer Care & Patrol Team on Tuesdays and
Thursdays for their guided Outdoor Art Gallery Tour for a walk through Downtown
Kamloops’ Alleyway murals, public art and historic buildings. The tour leaves
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:45pm sharp from the Customer Info Centre at 340
Victoria Street (next to Boston Pizza).

Instinct Adornment has a long history in Downtown Kamloops.
The owner, Jenna Dittrich, started the body piercing studio in
1999 through Community Futures and described Instinct as a
“right out of high school venture”. Initially, Instinct operated out
of a small studio space. They have since expanded and moved to
another Downtown location, 319 Victoria Street, where the shop
has been happily settled for the past ten years!
When asked what sets Instinct apart, Jenna explained how
they believe in focusing on “one thing and doing it well”. Jenna
and her team of body piercing specialists are very “dedicated
to their training” always ensuring that they keep updated. Two
of the team members are even members of the, internationally
recognized, Association of Professional Piercers. The store works
to carry good quality items that the staff really love.
