enrichment. This program is supported by registration fees
and receives no subsidized funding. Programs are open to
adults, 18 years of age or older — unless otherwise noted.

Registration is required for all classes. Early registration is
recommended as some classes fill up quickly. Registration is
on a first-come, first-served basis until classes are full. Classes with low enrollment three days prior to class start date or
low attendance may be cancelled. Students can register by

Refund Policy for Always Learning
Community Education Classes
Please make your selection carefully. Refunds or letters of credit
are allowed if requested in writing up to five business days prior
to the start of class. Refunds may be requested by fax, walk-in,
e-mail, or by mail. A $5 processing fee will be assessed for each
enrollment cancelled by the student. A full refund will be given
if a class is cancelled by Always Learning. Please allow up to
four weeks for processing. No refunds, credits, or transfers will
be issued for non-attendance. No refunds are given for material
fees and books that students have purchased from instructors.

older adult learner in mind, but adults of all ages are welcome!

This computer basics course will introduce you to the computer
keyboard. You will train in touch-typing, including mastery of
the keyboard and development of correct keyboarding
techniques. This is the perfect class to build your typing speed!

Learn how to create, edit, store and print documents. Create
professional looking documents by learning to use different
templates, fonts, format styles, and multi-level lists. Learn how
to apply margin settings, orientations, columns and breaks.
Learn some quick tips on how to apply pictures, symbols,
and WordArt to your documents. Prerequisite: Introduction to

Learn the new elements and features of Internet Explorer 11 and
how to set your favorites, organize them into folders, and how
to set your favorite website as a homepage. You’ll learn to use
search engines to research your favorite topics and Internet
safety. You’ll set-up Outlook using a Gmail account and learn
the features of Outlook 2010. Learn to compose a message,
reply, forward, attach files, photos, and business cards to your
messages and set stationery themes on email. You’ll also create

QUICKBOOKS PRO COMPREHENSIVE CERTIPORT CERTIFICATION
Students will learn how to use items, classes and accounts;
input purchase and sales transactions using check registers,
credit card accounts, petty cash accounts, accounts payable,
accounts receivable; and how to reconcile bank and credit
card accounts. Students will learn how to set up and use
QuickBooks for payroll, physical inventory and sales tax.
Explore the estimates and time tracking features and the use

Do you want to improve your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills?
The ESL (English as a Second Language) program is for people
who do not speak English as their first language and want to
learn English to get a job, get a better job, go to college or vocational school, or become a United States citizen.
ESL: Learn to listen to, read, write, and speak English as it
relates to everyday life through topics such as health and safety,
online communication, employment, community services and
resources, and American government and laws.
ESL/Distance Learning: Learn to listen to, read, write, and
speak English in your own home!
ESL/Citizenship: Learn to listen to, read, write, and speak
English as you learn how to be successful in the application and
interview process for United States citizenship.
ESL classes are at the main Elk Grove Adult and Community Education (EGACE) campus on Gerber Road and in several neighborhood locations in the community. There are morning, afternoon and evening ESL classes. Classes are offered at 5 levels. Classes
start at the beginning level for those who do not read or write English, and progress to the advanced level. Some classes have
students at one level and other classes have students at several different levels in the same class. New students take a test to find
out what level is best for them. ESL Classes are free at all locations.
Students interested in ESL classes at our main campus on Gerber Road or distance learning must make an
appointment to come in to take a test and register for class. Registration appointments are available online at www.
egusd.net/egace. Space is very limited and appointments fill up fast.

Typing Test
Typing tests are offered on a regular basis. Tests consist of two
3-minute practice tests and two 5-minute actual tests. The test process takes approximately one hour, and certificates are issued upon
completion of the exam. Please bring a valid photo ID to your testing
appointment.
No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Paraeducator
Examination
The Paraeducator exam is offered on a regular basis. The two-part
multiple-choice exam covers math and English skills. The test can
take up to three hours to complete. Pre-registration is required, and
testing dates fill up quickly. Study guides are available for both subjects for $2 each at the EGACE front office. (Please check the job
description of the position you are applying for to make sure you are
required to take this exam.) Please bring a valid photo ID to your
testing appointment.

Sexual Harassment Policy
The Elk Grove Unified School District prohibits unlawful sexual harassment of or by any student by anyone
in and of the district.
Teachers shall discuss this policy with their students in age-appropriate ways and should assure them that
they need not endure any form of sexual harassment.
Any student who engages in the sexual harassment of anyone in or from the district may be subject to
disciplinary action up to and including expulsion. Any employee who permits or engages in the sexual
harassment may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
The Board expects students or staff to immediately report incidents of sexual harassment to the principal or
designee or to another district administrator.
Any student who feels that he/she is being discriminated against or harassed should immediately contact
the principal or designee. In addition, a written complaint can be filed in accordance with BP/AR 1312.3.

The district prohibits retaliatory behavior against any complainant or any participant in the complaint process. Each complaint of sexual harassment shall be promptly investigated in a way that respects the privacy
of all parties concerned.
Prohibited sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances, requests for
sexual favors and other verbal, visual or physical conduct of a sexual nature, when:
• Submission to the conduct is explicitly or implicitly made a term or condition of an individual’s employment, academic status or progress;
• Submission to, or rejection of, the conduct by the individual is used as a basis for academic or employment decisions affecting the individual;
• The conduct has a purpose or effect of having a negative impact upon the individual’s academic or work performance, or of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive work or educational environ-
ment; and
• Submission to, or rejection of, the conduct by the individual is used as the basis for any decision affecting the individual regarding benefits, services, honors, programs or activities available at or offered
through the school. [E.C. 212.5]
Other types of conduct which are prohibited in the district and which may constitute sexual harassment
include:
• Unwelcome leering, sexual flirtations or propositions;
• Unwelcome sexual slurs, epithets, threats, verbal abuse, derogatory comments or sexually degrading
descriptions;
• Graphic verbal comments about an individual’s body or overly personal conversation;
• Sexual jokes, stories, drawings, pictures or gestures;
• Spreading sexual rumors;
• Teasing or sexual remarks about students;
• Touching an individual’s body or clothes in a sexual way;
• Cornering or blocking of normal movements for sexual purposes;
• Displaying sexually suggestive objects in the educational or work environment;
• Any act of retaliation against an individual who reports a violation of the district’s sexual harassment
policy or who participates in the investigation of a sexual harassment complaint.

Uniform Complaint Procedure
You may contact your school’s office or the district office to obtain a copy of the district’s complaint procedures. Policies, procedures and forms can also be found online at
http://www.egusd.net/students_parents/district_policies.cfm.
Complaints alleging discrimination shall be filed by a person on their own behalf or on behalf of another
person or group of people. An unlawful discrimination complaint must be filed not later than six months
from the date the alleged discrimination occurs or six months from the date the complainant first obtains
knowledge of the facts of the alleged discrimination. Complaints regarding a special needs student may be
filed within 12 months of the occurrence. [E.C. 56500.2]
The complaint procedure can be used for a variety of issues not mentioned above including, but not limited
to, employee issues, school safety planning requirements in the No Child Left Behind Act and policies and
procedures of the district. Confidentiality and privacy shall be respected in all complaint investigations. The
following procedures shall be used to file UCP complaints: [5 C.C.R. 4600 et seq.]
• Complaints made under this procedure shall be directed to the UCP officer who is responsible for
processing the claims.
• A decision must be issued within 60 days from the receipt of the complaint unless the complainant agrees in writing to extend the timeline.
• You may contact the UCP officer to obtain a copy of the complaint process at 916.686.7795.
• The complainant has the option of having the complaint mediated.
• After receiving the complaint, there shall be an investigative meeting.
• The compliance officer shall send a written report about the investigation and decision.
• You may forward the complaint directly to CDE and it may choose to intervene immediately based on
established criteria.
• There is nothing in this process that precludes a complainant from pursuing available civil law remedies
outside of the district’s complaint procedures. Such remedies may include mediation, attorneys and
legal action. Civil law remedies may include, but are not limited to, injunctions and restraining orders.
• An unlawful discrimination complaint must be filed no later than six months from the date the alleged
discrimination occurred or six months from the date the complainant first obtains knowledge of the facts of the alleged discrimination. Complaints regarding a special needs student must be filed within
12 months of the date of occurrence.
• For discrimination complaints, 60 days must elapse from the time an appeal is filed with CDE before
pursuing civil remedies except for an injunction.

EGACE partners with outside agencies to provide career technology certificates and training programs.
These agencies have written refund policies in their orientation packets. Please read these policies carefully
before signing your agreement:
• No refund without original receipt.
• Request for refund should be in writing.
• All approved refunds are subject to $100.00 service fee.
• There is no refund for Books, Supplies, Fingerprinting, TB/Health History/CPR/First Aid/Exam/Immunization fees once those services have been completed or supplied to students.
• A prorated refund will be made for students who withdraw from the program prior to completing 60%
of the program. No refund is due after 60% of the enrollment period has been completed.

The principal or designee shall take appropriate actions to reinforce the district’s sexual harassment policy.
These actions may include:
• Removing vulgar or offending graffiti;
• Providing staff inservice and student instruction or counseling.
• Taking appropriate disciplinary action as needed.
