This guarantee covers the vehicle and not the owner. This means that the guarantee cover remains in force for its full duration, even if the owner sells the vehicle. Art. 2 | The guarantee covering defective parts is only valid in an approved PGO Automobiles service centre. Art. 3 | The guarantee covers the repair or replacement of defective parts and labour. Art. 4 | The following elements are not covered by the guarantee as they are caused by external causes outside the manufacturer's responsibility: - Cracks or scratches affecting windows, - Excessive wear affecting engine parts caused by driving in polluted areas if you do not take care to replace the air filter as stated in the servicing handbook, - Weather damage, - Servicing and parts that should be replaced as part of normal vehicle wear. Art. 5 | The guarantee does not apply in the following cases: - If the vehicle is repaired by any one from outside of the PGO Automobiles service network and especially if this person is not expressly empowered by PGO Automobiles to perform the repairs, - If parts not approved by PGO Automobiles are installed on the vehicle, - If the damage caused to the vehicle is due to a lack of oil, brake fluid or any other negligence on the part of the vehicle's owner or user, - If modifications or alterations not authorised by PGO Automobiles have been made to the vehicle, 8 GUARANTEE CONTROLS SERVICING PGO Automobiles ZA de la Pyramide 30 380 St-Christol-lez-Alès, France Phone +33 (0)4 66 605 605 [email protected] www.pgo.fr enr/owner's guide 12 a 9 TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION EXTERIOR ELEMENTS Art. 6 | The guarantee covering tyres approved by the manufacturer is provided by the tyre makers themselves and is subject to any adjustment that they deem necessary. No approved PGO Automobiles service centre may be held responsible for damage relating to tyres. ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT - If the vehicle has been subjected to inappropriate treatment, negligence, accidents, if it has been used on the track, has taken part in speed racing, rallying or has been used to commit acts of violence, - If the vehicle, fitted with a catalytic converter, has been run with any fuel other than unleaded petrol, - If the vehicle's owner or user has not complied with the stipulations of the servicing handbook as regards preventive checks (oil pressure, temperature or battery charge), - If the owner or user has not had the proper servicing conducted, at the recommended intervals as described in the servicing handbook, by an approved PGO Automobiles service centre, SERVICE HANDBOOK & GUARANTEE The service handbook brings you detailed information on the servicing operations that must be performed. These operations along with the service checks must be performed at an approved PGO Automobiles service centre. Always present your service book to benefit from the manufacturer's guarantee. Remarks on the guarantee The terms of the sale agreement are binding. Any damage due to failure to follow the instructions for use or servicing or due to a lack of care are not covered by the guarantee. Servicing must be performed by an approved PGO Automobiles service centre in line with the servicing schedule and recorded in the service book. An up to date service book provides proof of guarantee. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SERVICE BOOK In your service book we will confirm the date when you purchased your vehicle, marking the start of its guarantee period. Thanks to the characteristics of your vehicle recorded in the service book you can be assured that your vehicle will always receive the parts it needs. These characteristics play a part in ensuring that your vehicle can always be repaired without difficulty, throughout its life. The service schedule also tells you when and what servicing is required. The servicing boxes should be filled in to confirm that the servicing was performed proof of which may be necessary to ensure that the conditions for the two year guarantee are met. 10 GUARANTEE SERVICING Following the service schedule is essential to retaining the manufacturer's guarantee cover. Your PGO benefits from extended service intervals, every year or every 15,000 km. Extended service intervals make it important to regularly check the engine oil level: it is normal to have to add oil between two oil changes. This is why PGO Automobiles asks you to perform an intermediate service check between each normal service. An approved PGO Automobiles service centre will perform a quick check and top up the fluid levels, where necessary (engine oil, engine coolant, brake fluid, screen wash liquid, etc.). Lastly, never forget that an insufficient engine oil level may cause major damage to the engine: check the engine oil level every 5,000 km. enr/owner's guide 12 a 11 EXTERIOR ELEMENTS Every vehicle has its own service schedule defined by the manufacturer in line with its technical specifications. This cycle comprises alternating "A" and "B" service checks, intermediate servicing and a few additional operations that are specific to your individual vehicle. They are key steps in the life of your PGO. The coupon based servicing presentation is intended to make it easier for you to service your vehicle by showing you when you should have your next service check performed at an approved PGO Automobiles service centre and what servicing is required. TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION SERVICING LEVELS ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT CONTROLS SERVICING & SERVICE CHECKS Extended service intervals are made possible by improvements to our vehicles and the lubricants used so be sure to only use the engine lubricants that are approved and recommended by PGO Automobiles. ! WARNING Some essential components of your vehicle have special inspection intervals: - Spark plugs must be replaced every 60,000 km or every two years, - Brake fluid must be replaced every 60,000 km or every two years, - Engine coolant must be replaced every 50,000 km or every two years, Special usage conditions Under certain especially difficult conditions: • City driving only, • Repeated short drives, • Engine cold at low outdoor temperatures, • and/or if the vehicle remains under the conditions listed below for an extended period of time: - Hot countries where the outside temperature often exceeds +30°C, - Cold countries where the outside temperature often falls below -15°C, - Countries with a dusty atmosphere, - Countries where the lubricants or fuels in use do not meet our recommendations. Then apply the “Special usage” service schedule comprising specific service operations and shortened service intervals of every 10,000 km or once a year. 12 GUARANTEE SERVICING SERVICE CHECKS "A" SERVICE CHECK STEPS - Engine oil change - Engine oil filter change CONTROLS Checks and top ups: - Screen wash liquid level - Engine coolant level - Brake fluid level - Pollen filter - Air-conditioning circuit gas charge EXTERIOR ELEMENTS WARNING To ensure optimum safety, we recommend that you frequently check the following points: Tyre pressures, engine oil level, brake fluid level, screen wash liquid level. Start the engine without touching the accelerator pedal. After intensive use (with the engine very hot), to preserve the turbocharger, let the engine run for 20 seconds at idle before switching off the ignition. Never run the engine in a closed space as inhaling exhaust gases is unhealthy and may lead to loss of conciousness and death. Exhaust gasses contain carbon monoxide that cannot be seen or smelt, but is toxic. To avoid accidents, never leave the car unattended with the engine on. Before leaving the car, with the engine still running, always place the gear lever in neutral and apply the handbrake or the car could move. If the car does not start on the first attempt (because the engine is very cold or very hot), press the accelerator pedal half way while turning the starter motor. For cold starts at very low temperatures (below - 15 degrees Celsius) and/or at high altitudes (above 1,000 metres): • The first time, run the starter motor for approximately 10 seconds, • Then, press the accelerator pedal half way while turning the starter motor. Until the engine has reached its normal operating temperature, avoid high revs and do not press the accelerator pedal all the way down. enr/owner's guide 12 a 25 ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT After first starting the engine, drive at moderate engine speeds. RUNNING IN INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FIRST 2,000 KILOMETRES Careful material selection and quality assembly guarantee optimum performance by all engine parts. Nevertheless, during the first few hours of operation, internal friction will be greater, until the moving parts have bedded in. The way they fit together properly depends mainly on the way you drive for the first 2,000 kilometres. Avoiding constant engine speeds and regularly changing gears without over revving will ensure the perfect running in for your car. In detail, please follow a few recommendations set out below during the first 2,000 kilometres: - Always warm up the engine slowly whilst driving and not when stationary, - Before stopping the engine, always leave it to idle for approximately 30 seconds, - For the first 1,000 kilometres, do not exceed 3,500 rpm, - Before reaching the 2,000 kilometres mark, do not exceed 5,000 rpm, - Take care to accelerate progressively to achieve smooth rises in engine speed. Your engine will only reach its full power after 7,000 to 10,000 kilometres. 54 GUARANTEE SERVICING ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT REMEMBER Only use products recommended by PGO Automobiles. FUEL EXTERIOR ELEMENTS To ensure proper operation, your PGO requires Super unleaded (95 or 98 octane) fuel. The vehicle's fuel tank capacity is 42 litres. FILLING THE TANK Always stop the engine before filling the tank. The fuel tank filler is located on the right hand side of the car. Insert the key and turn it left. Remove the fuel filler cap. FUEL SUPPLY CUT OFF After serious impact, a mechanism cuts off the fuel supply to the engine. The cut off switch is located in the "electrical box" located behind the passenger seat. To restart the fuel supply, press the red button on the switch located behind the flap, behind the seats. enr/owner's guide 12 a 55 TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION ! CONTROLS VEHICLE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ACCESS TO THE ENGINE On Speedster II and Cévennes models, two covers allow access to the engine for regular service operations: To check the engine oil level, open the cover located under the rear window shelf, inside the car. To access the engine air filter and the coolant level, open the engine cover. The handle for opening the rear bonnet cover is located behind the passenger seat. For Hemera models, a single engine cover allows access to the engine for regular servicing operations. This cover can be found inside the rear baggage compartment, under the rear window shelf, inside the car and it allows access to the engine oil level, the air filter, the coolant liquid level and to the spark plugs. To remove this cover, move the seats forward, remove the headrests and incline the seat backs forward. Remove the carpet and remove the compartment cover from inside the car (another access is possible by dismantling the box that holds the electrical components, behind the seats, after first removing the box cover). 56 The handle for opening the rear hatch is located on the driver's side door jamb. GUARANTEE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WARNING If possible, prior to performing any work in the engine compartment: - Switch off the engine and remove the ignition key, - Make sure the handbrake is fully on, - Place the gear shift lever in neutral, - Let the engine cool. Be careful if you need to perform inspection work with the engine running: moving parts (belt, alternator, etc.) and the high voltage ignition represent additional hazards. ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT Take care to never confuse the various fluids when replenishing them as this could cause serious malfunctions. ENGINE OIL The engine contains 4.2 litres of oil, or 4.7 litres including the oil filter and OW30 quality oil is used. WARNING EXTERIOR ELEMENTS ! CONTROLS SERVICING Be especially careful when working in the engine compartment! Some specific quality oils have been approved for specific conditions, like severe weather or driving, for example. Refer to an approved PGO Automobiles service centre to preserve your driving experience and optimise the servicing costs for your vehicle. Important remark : engine oils are specially developed and are continually being improved. For this reason, the indications provided in this handbook can only refer to oils available at the time of publication. enr/owner's guide 12 a 57 TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION ! ENGINE OIL LEVEL The engine oil level must be checked regularly. Top up the engine oil level between two oil changes, if necessary (the maximum normal oil consumption is 0.5 litres per 1,000 km). CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL The car must be on a flat surface with the engine cold. To check the oil, remove the dipstick and wipe it clean, push it back in all the way and pull it out again to read the level. Keep the oil level between the maximum and minimum marks on the dipstick. Be sure to never exceed the maximum level. ADDING ENGINE OIL Remove the oil filler cap and pour the oil in using a funnel. Then check the oil level with the dipstick. When the oil level is above the minimum mark, there is no need to fill the oil up to the maximum mark. Nevertheless, always make sure that there is enough oil that the level will not fall below the minimum mark before the next oil change. ! WARNING When a lot is demanded of the engine (during long trips in summer or on mountain roads), the oil level should be kept as close as possible to the maximum mark. When adding oil, always ensure that it does not come into contact with hot engine parts as this may cause a fire hazard. We recommend checking the oil level at least every 3,000 km and before starting a long trip. Carefully close the oil filler cap and push the dipstick all the way in or some oil may leak out while the engine is running. 58 GUARANTEE GEARBOX OIL SERVICING The gearbox contains 1.9 litres of Texaco MTF94 oil. It is lubricated for life and does not require an oil change. To check the gearbox oil level, contact an approved PGO Automobiles service centre. ENGINE COOLANT WARNING As the engine coolant circuit is under pressure, wait for at least one hour after stopping the engine before taking any action on it. If an urgent fix is required, to avoid any burn hazard, loosen the cap by two turns to release the pressure before opening. Once the pressure is released, remove the cap and refill the coolant up to the maximum mark. enr/owner's guide 12 a 59 TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION ! EXTERIOR ELEMENTS ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT When the engine is hot, the temperature of the coolant is regulated by the electric cooling fan that can also operate when the ingnition is switched off. CONTROLS Always use an inorganic "IAT" type product (protection down to -35°C is recommended). BRAKE FLUID The brake fluid reservoir is located in the front baggage compartment. The fluid reservoir is transparent so that you can visibly check the fluid level from the outside. The fluid level must always be kept between the two high and low level lines, without ever exceeding either of them. The fluid level will fall slightly due to brake pad wear. This is normal. However, if the fluid level falls sharply and rapidly, then the braking system may have developed a leak. You should immediately see an approved PGO Automobiles service centre. ! WARNING If the brake fluid is old, steam bubbles may form in the brake system during hard braking. This considerably hinders brake effectiveness and therefore driving safety. Brake fluid is toxic and highly corrosive. It must be kept in its original container out of the reach of children. 60 GUARANTEE BRAKE PADS SERVICING Brake pad wear depends on how the car is driven, especially for cars used in town, over short distances or when driven is a sporty way. We recommend regularly checking the condition of brakes on your PGO, even between two service checks. WHEELS - Your driving habits: cornering at high speed, accelerating sharply or braking suddenly all increase tyre wear. - Wheel alignment: faulty front and rear wheel alignment causes abnormal tyre wear, most often one sided, resulting in reduced safety margins when driving. - Tyre wear limit: the safe tyre wear limit is reached when the tread depth falls below 1 mm in relation to the surface of the tyre or when the tyre wears down to the tread wear indicator (TWI). We do however recommend that you not wait until this limit is reached before replacing your tyres as driving in wet conditions may not guarantee proper road holding. An approved PGO Automobiles service centre can advise you on the choice of your new tyres. enr/owner's guide 12 a 61 EXTERIOR ELEMENTS - Tyre pressure: Incorrect tyre pressure reduces tyre life and impacts driving and fuel consumption. We therefore recommend checking tyre pressures at regular intervals (at least once a month or every 2,000 km). A label on the driver's side door jamb near the door lock shows the recommended tyre pressures (see p.80). TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION Tyre life is essentially dependent on: ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT CONTROLS Because the tyres and wheels are essential safety components, PGO Automobiles makes sure that those mounted on your vehicle are faultless. To optimise their life, here are some useful tips… BATTERY The battery is located in the front baggage compartment, under the carpet. Tip: As winter approaches, have your battery checked by an approved PGO Automobiles service centre. CHANGING THE BATTERY If you need to replace the battery be sure that the new one is the same shape and has the same voltage (12V) and current (60Ah) ratings. ! WARNING Before working on the car's electrical equipment, disconnect the positive (+) lead from the battery. 1 62 GUARANTEE Screen wash liquid reservoir SERVICING Power steering fluid reservoir SCREEN WIPERS CONTROLS To ensure proper visibility, it is essential to keep the wiper blades clean and in good condition. ATTENTION CLEANING YOUR PGO Proper, regular care helps your car retain its value. You will find the necessary products at your authorised PGO Automobiles service centre. EXTERIOR ELEMENTS Note: Before using these products, be sure to follow the instructions provided on their packaging. ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT After disconnecting the battery take care to leave the bonnet very slightly open. enr/owner's guide 12 a 65 TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION ! CONTROLS STORING YOUR PGO FOR THE WINTER WASHING The best way to protect your PGO from environmental impact is to wash it often and to apply a protective product. How often you need to care for your car depends on its use, where you park it, weather conditions and environmental conditions. Dead insects, tar spots, bird droppings, tree resin, etc. all take a toll. The longer aggressive deposits remain on the car's paintwork, the more of a damaging effect they will have. High temperatures (intense sunlight) as well as dew formation at night all increase their damaging effects. Consequently, don't delay before cleaning impurities off the bodywork. We recommend washing your car with regular water, from top to bottom, so that its paintwork retains is best shine. Do not use high pressure washing or car wash rollers. When winter ends and there is no more salt on the roads, rinse off the underside of the car. 66 GUARANTEE SERVICING CONTROLS The soft top should not be cleaned every time the car is washed. A clear water rinse is enough. If the soft top becomes dirty, wet it, rub it using a soft brush and soapy water, then carefully rinse off with clear water. Never use detergents or solvents to remove stains: these will affect the waterproofing and shorten the life of the materials used to make the soft top. CLEANING THE REAR HATCH Using a soft cloth, clean the rear hatch with water, car body shampoo or a window cleaning product. ADJUSTMENTS & COMFORT First of all, a wet soft top must always dry while kept taught, i.e. up and fastened. Before washing it, prefer dusting it off using a soft brush. EXTERIOR ELEMENTS CLEANING THE SOFT TOP Car leather is cleaned using a soft haired brush and some soapy water. Avoid using too much water and dry everything fully using a soft cloth. enr/owner's guide 12 a 67 TIPS & TECHNICAL INFORMATION CLEANING THE LEATHER ACCESSORIES AND MODIFICATIONS Official PGO Automobiles accessories and genuine PGO Automobiles spare parts are available from approved PGO Automobiles service centres and dealers who will fit these items professionally to guarantee you the best service.
