2008 Sales and Charters
To date in 2008, Marcon International Inc., as shipbrokers, has sold or chartered 67 vessels and barges, including
seven on a private & confidential basis. Sales of several additional vessels and barges are to be concluded within
the next two weeks.
The sale of a 150’ x 50’ x 8’ U.S. flag, ocean deck barge was brokered
by Marcon on the very last day of 2008 between private U.S. West
Coast Buyers and Sellers. The flat deck, freight barge was built in
2000 by Orange Shipbuilding Co. in Orange, Texas to ABS +A1
Barge, Unrestricted Service standards and granted an International
Loadline Certificate. The 416GRT barge has an internal 20,000 gal.
fuel tank, wood wear deck, short side walls and a bow ramp. The
barge will remain in the Pacific Northwest and will be used by the
Buyer for future “in-house” construction projects. Marcon acted as sole
broker in this transaction.
Marcon is pleased to announce the sale of the two sister integrated tug &
barge (ITB) tank vessels "Groton" and "Jacksonville" from U.S. Shipping
Partners L.P. of Edison, New Jersey to foreign buyers. Both ITBs were
originally built in 1981 and 1982, respectively, for Amerada Hess of the U.S.
Virgin Islands. Halter Marine Services, Inc. of Chickasaw, Alabama, built the
catamaran style (CATUG), twin screw tugs and Bethlehem Steel
Shipbuilding Division of Sparrows Point, Maryland, built the double-bottom /
single-side tank barges. The vessels traded the majority of their lives in U.S.
coastwise clean petroleum product service, but had recently been utilized to
transport grain cargoes to Africa for humanitarian organizations. The vessels
are of a unique design where the twin-hull tug “docks” on a tongue protruding from the stern of the tank barge and
locks into place with hydraulically operated link-arms, rigidly connecting the unit. Overall dimensions, with tug and
barge connected, are 691' x 95' beam x 61.5' depth with a maximum loaded draft of 40.5' carrying a deadweight of
about 48,000 long tons. The thirteen cargo tanks have a combined capacity of 362,000 barrels with each cargo
tank fitted with its own Framo single stage submersible pump. Both units are
classed with ABS as Oil Tank Barge +A1 for the barges and Towing Service
+A1, AMS, ACC for the tugs. The 133.5’ x 90.3’ x 39’ tugs are powered by two
medium speed Enterprise DMRV 16-4 TransAmerica Delaval main engines
generating a total of 18,200BHP providing a service speed of about 14.6 knots
on 44 tons/day. The engines are capable of burning IFO and MGO. Buyers will
return both vessels to petroleum service, but under non-U.S. flag. Marcon
International, Inc. represented the buyers, who previously purchased another
tug and barge through our auspices.

The single skin, ocean tank barge, “B. No. 105”, was sold to West African buyers
after Sellers took delivery of their newbuilding double-hull replacement. The
barge, re-named “Heyden-Lamissa”, was built by Gretna Machine & Iron Works,
Gretna, LA in 1971. Principal dimensions are 340’ x 70’ by 27.5’ hull depth. Cargo
capacity is 12,889 tons or abt. 102,000 bbls in 10 coiled cargo tanks. Special
features include a 12 million BTU self-heating system and crew accommodations
for four persons. Last service was in asphalt trade and at the time of delivery
barge certificates were valid and in force. The barge was re-flagged with St. Kitts
& Nevis registry and assigned a Temporary Load Line by International Register of
Shipping. New owners will utilize the barge for local coastwise trading and storage
operating from their tank farm in Lagos, Nigeria. In addition to brokering the barge
sale, Marcon also fixed it’s towage from New York Harbor to Nigeria. Donjon
Marine, Hillside, NJ, performed the tow with their twin-screw, 6,480bhp anchorhandling tug “Atlantic Salvor”. Marcon acted as sole broker in arranging both the
sale and charter. This was the third similar barge Marcon has brokered for the
Seller and the first brokered to this buyer. Marcon has sold 11 ocean tank barges
upwards of 1.49 million barrels capacity so far in 2008 and 59 similar barges
totaling about 4.38 million barrels capacity since 1990.
Northland Services of Seattle, WA have sold their 230' ocean deck barge
“Baranof Trader” (ex-Patty A. Dutra, Seal) to North Arm Transportation, Ltd., for
service under Canadian Registry in British Columbia. The barge is a handy size
for the region with respect to operations taking into consideration the tidal
effects on the rivers and estuaries. The depth of hull and loading level of the
deck of the barge at any given time is crucial to simplified operations at the
majority of loading docks and their respective ramps or platforms in the area.
This barge was listed by Marcon for less than one calendar week before it was
tied up in contract and U.S. Maritime Administration approval was sought for reflagging. “Baranof Trader” is the third similar size of barge sold in 2008 from the
Pacific Northwest. The barge was built by Zidell Marine in Tacoma, WA in 1981 with a lightship of about 648 long
tons. She measures 230' x 60' x 15' depth and carries about 3,507 long tons of cargo on a 12.1' loaded draft. The
barge is classed ABS +A1 Barge Unrestricted Service, and carries an ABS International Loadline. Her 215' x 56'
clear deck has a uniform strength of about 1,100 PSF. “Baranof Trader” has a 6" wood wear deck, and is double
raked with twin towing skegs aft. Marcon acted as sole broker in this transaction and has represented both Buyer
and Seller in previous sales and purchases. So far this year Marcon International has sold eight ocean deck barges
with an aggregate capacity of 54,046 tons deadweight.
Marcon is pleased to announce the successful completion of the
12,500nm plus tow of the Great Lakes self-discharging bulk carrier
"Algobay" half-way around the world. The tow commenced early morning

on 25 May 2008 from the Port of Montreal, Quebec to Gibraltar through
the Suez Canal, Red Sea, Indian Ocean and finally arriving at the
Changjiangkou buoy off Shanghai to await pilots, escort tugs and
clearance up the Yangtze River. After a short delay, the ship was towed
the 100 miles upriver under the Jiangyin Suspension Bridge, one of the
longest span suspension bridges in the world.

September 2008 for her complete repower and major refurbishment to a
maximum Seaway sized self-unloader.
The vessel (currently measuring 730' x
76' x 46.5' depth) was built as Hull #215
in June 1978 at Collingwood Shipyard,
Ontario. She was originally built for 15 year contract to assist in hauling one million metric tons of coal per year for
Ontario Hydro. “Algobay” was built to a "Nova Scotia Class" classification allowing for the operation of the vessel
along the eastern seaboard with an advanced "V" shaped bow to the 24' (7.32m) mark for working in ice, higher
horsepower diesels and a greater degree of hull strengthening. The self-unloader was the widest vessel built to
date at the shipyard. “Algobay's” name was derived from the common corporate naming prefix "Algo" and "bay"
honoring the various bays of the Great Lakes, but no one bay in particular.
“Algobay” is presently powered by two Pielstick 10PC2-3V-400 V-10 cylinder 5,350BHP diesels built by Crossley
Premier Engines Ltd., Manchester, UK burning intermediate grade 40 fuel. These drive a single controllable pitch
propeller giving her a rated service speed of 13.8mph. She is also equipped with a KaMeWa 1,000HP bow thruster.
Serviced by 22 hatches, the vessel's five holds are capable of carrying 33,840 tons (34,381 mt) at a mid-summer
draft of 32' 08" and approx. 25,945 tons (26,362 mt) at the Seaway draft of 26' 06" (8.08m).
After a long and storied career on the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence Seaway
and in deep sea trade, the “Algobay” had entered long term lay-up on
December 25, 2002 at Toronto, ON, with the hull reportedly requiring
extensive steelwork and equipment upgrades. On November 7, 2007,
Algoma in conjunction with Upper Lakes Shipping announced the
construction of two new maximum seaway size self-unloading forebodies to
attach to the aft-ends of the “Algobay” and her fleet mate. The forebodies
are being built by Chengxi Shipyard, Jiangyin, China at a total cost of
approx. $125 million, the cost to be split equally between the two companies
involved. The official steel cutting ceremony for the “Algobay” forebody took

place on 2 September 2008. “Algobay” is expected to return to service by
December, 2009. Marcon was sole broker in arranging the tow.
Offshore Express, Inc. of Louisiana has purchased the 1972 built anchor
handling tug supply vessel "Yolanda I" from Dragamex CV de SA of Vera
Cruz, Mexico; a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster. The 3,800BHP,
Mexican flagged, AHTS was originally built by Aarhus Flydedok in Aarhus,
Denmark as the “Maersk Supplier” and later traded both as the “Stevns
Supplier” and “Sea Moon” before purchased by Dragamex in 1999. The
53.4m x 11.2m x 4.0m, 769mtdw vessel is powered by a pair of MAK
8M451AK diesels driving fixed pitch propellers providing approx. 33.2
tonnes of bollard pull and a free running speed of abt. 13 knots on 10 tons
per day. “Yolanda I” is fitted with a 130BHP Tornado bow thruster, a 2 tonne
crane with an 18m boom and can accommodate up to 22 persons on board. Vessel was reflagged to Panamanian
registry upon delivery. Marcon International acted as the sole broker in this transaction. This was the fourth vessel /
barge we sold to these buyers in 2008.

Southern States Offshore of Houston, TX has sold the U.S.
flag supply vessel “Sabine Seal” to Bywater Ludlow LLC of
Washington State. The 150’ x 35’ x 12’ supply vessel was
originally built in 1980 at Zigler Shipyard, Jennings, LA as the
“State Flamingo” for State Boat Corp. of Houston, Texas. In
recent years, “Sabine Seal” has undergone major work
including renewed bow and back deck, tanks coated, one
new main engine and one overhauled. The vessel is
powered by two GM 12V149s providing about 1,400BHP @ 1,800RPM turning 58” stainless steel propellers
through 5.17:1 Twin Disc reduction gears. Ship’s power is supplied a pair of 75 kW / GM6-71 generators. Tankage
includes 42,000 gallons fuel oil, 6,335 gallons fresh water, 186,900 gallons drill water and 1,200 BBL liquid mud.
Vessel is expected to continue to work the spot market in the US Gulf of Mexico. This is the first vessel we have
sold to this Buyer. Marcon acted as sole broker in this transaction.
Capital Signal Company Ltd of Carenage, Trinidad sold their
Cook Islands flag, 166’ x 38’ x 13’ supply vessel “Count Turk”
(ex- Count Turf, Juan T. Orgeron) to Selig Services Ltd. of
Ghana. The vessel was built in 1976 at Halter Marine in Pierre
Part, Louisiana. “Count Turk” was last drydocked and underwent
special survey in September 2006 and was sold with all of her
trading certificates valid. She is powered by a pair of GM
16V149s which provide about 1,800BHP. Capacities include
43,454 gallons fuel oil, 49,430 gallons fresh water, 50,000
gallons drill water, 3,000ft3 dry bulk and 1,000BBL liquid mud. This is the first vessel Marcon has sold to this Buyer.
Marcon acted as sole broker in the transaction. Marcon sold a supply vessel earlier this year to the Seller.
Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, Ltd. of China has recently sold an
8,200dwt newbuilding ocean deck barge to German buyers on private
terms. Barge was classed ABS +A1 Barge, Unrestricted Service and
built with a 12mm side shell and 16mm bottom and deck plate. Uniform
deck load is 15mt/m2. The 300’ (91.5m) x 90’ (27.46m) x 18’ (5.50m)
barge will head for Europe under her new name of "Nostag 10". The
buyer requested removal of the bin walls prior to delivery. This is the
second newbuild barge that Marcon has sold from this shipyard.
Marcon acted as sole broker. For further units of this specification
please refer to Marcon's file number DB30090. To-date this year
Marcon has sold 7 ocean deck barges totaling 52,029dwt capacity. Since 1990, when we started closely tracking
sales, Marcon has sold 95 ocean deck barges with an aggregate capacity of over 600,000dwt.
Operaciones Tecnicas Marinas Ltda (OTM) of Colombia has sold their
2,000BHP tug "Wahoo 4" to Mexican buyers on private terms. The 25.8m x
8.1m x 3.7m tug, built by Bijlholt BV of Foxhol, Netherlands in 1984, is
powered by twin Stork Werkspoor 6FHD240 main engines driving controllable
pitch propellers. Originally owned by Smit Harbour Towage Rotterdam BV, the
tug was delivered as the “Smit Noorwegen”. Current sellers had purchased
the vessel from Smit-Lloyd (Antilles) NV in 2005 and overhauled the tug in
2007. “Wahoo 4” is equipped with a single drum towing winch. Tug was
originally classed with Bureau Veritas but this was withdrawn in recent years.
This is the second sale concluded to these buyers within recent weeks.

New Jersey based owners Port Richmond Marine 3 LLC has sold its "PR 3" tank
barge to Mexican buyers on private terms. The “PR3” (ex- General Chemical
No.3 / Allied Chemical No. 3) was built by Avondale Marine Ways in 1958. It
measures 240’ x 43’ x 17.75’ depth and holds 444,780 gallons (equiv 10,590
bbls) on a laden draft of abt. 12.27’. The barge is ABS Loadlined and was U.S.
Coast Guard inspected and certified to carry Grade D & lower combustible
liquids & specified hazardous cargoes. Barge is Double Hulled Type III and has
four stainless steel tanks with hydraulic pumps in each. In its lifetime the barge
has carried such diverse cargoes as caustic soda, corn oil, tallow, urea,
sulphuric acid & syrnamax. Marcon acted as sole broker in this transaction.
Fairplay Schleppdampfschiffs-Reederei Richard Borchard GmbH has
taken the ship-docking, firefighting, coastal tug "Fairplay XVII" on longterm bareboat charter from European Owners. The 103' x 32.5' x 17.1'
azimuthing stern drive (ASD) tug was built in 1993 by Detlef Hegemann
in Germany. She is powered by two MWM SBV8M628 diesels
generating a total of 4,078BHP. Main engines drive twin Schottel
azimuthing propellers through ZF gears, generating 51mt bollard pull.
Free running speed is about 12.5 knots. Tug is fitted with fore and aft
towing winches and a 50mt tow hook. Vessel is classed RINA * 100 A
1.1 Mn Re SaIv. Nav. I.C. TPF 500 IAQ1 FFQ1. Marcon acted as sole
broker in the transaction. Vessel had just completed another two year
bareboat charter arranged through Marcon.
Sause Bros. Ocean Towing of Portland, Oregon sold their 240' x 60' x 16' depth
ABS+A1 Ocean deck barge “Hanalei” to Canadian Buyers. Barge was built in
1974 as a single-hull, combo-deck / tank barge. Internal tanks were originally
coated. “Hanalei” discontinued her tank service in the mid 1980s, but retained
some piping which was used as a ballast system throughout her years of deck
service. Barge has a capacity of 4,300 tons deadweight on 13' draft and uniform
deck load of about 1,300psf. “Hanalei” recently underwent a 5 year special
survey and dry-docking in Portland, Oregon prior to being sold. Sause Bros. had
towed the barge for nearly 20 years, mostly in the processed lumber trade on the
U.S. West Coast and she is fitted with 21' high breakwater forward and lumber
stanchions on both sides. Barge has been deleted from the U.S. Registry. New Owners plan to trade her in their
service in British Columbia under Canadian flag. Marcon represented Sellers in the purchase. “Hanalei” was the
third or fourth barge of this class sold by Marcon over the years.
After purchasing the sister tug “Sea Flyer” earlier this year (now re-flagged and
re-named “Admiral S”) from Crowley Maritime Services of Seattle, the same
Nigerian buyers came back to Crowley and bought the “Sea Swift” (to be
named “B Billy”). The 136’ x 36.5’ x 19.2’ depth tug was built in 1968 by J.R.
McDermott, Amelia, Louisiana. “Sea Swift” is classed ABS +A1, Towing
Service, +AMS, Unrestricted Service. She is powered by a pair of EMD 16645E5 diesels producing a total of 5,750BHP at 900RPM to 5-blade 120” x 99”
5-blade stainless steel open props. Bollard pull is abt. 135,000lbs. ahead and
abt. 95,000lbs. astern. At the time of sale, the tug was afloat at Seller’s dock in
Jacksonville, Florida. New owners will place the tug in immediate service
tandem towing a 400’ x 100’ x 25’ deck barge and a 100,000bbl single skin
tank barge from the U.S. East Coast to Nigeria. Marcon acted as the sole broker in the sale and has sold over 80
vessels and barges to or from Crowley plus over a dozen tugs and barges to Buyers over the years.

Related to the sale of the tug “Sea Swift”, Marcon is pleased to also
announce the sale of the 15,999dwt, flat top, ocean deck barge, "450-5" to
same Nigerian Buyers to whom we have brokered the sale of 14 tugs and
barges over the past 3 years. Crowley Maritime Service, Seattle, WA. was
the Seller. Originally named “Lanai”, the barge was built by Bethlehem Steel
Corp., San Francisco, CA in 1976. It was originally fitted with a covered
house accessed via stern doors, which was later removed to convert the
barge to deck service. The barge was also equipped to carry liquid cargoes
in her hull tanks. Principal dimensions are 400’ x 99.5’ x 25’. New owners
plan to convert the barge to tank service, after which it will be towed to
Lagos, Nigeria to begin work lightering clean product from ships to the terminal. Marcon acted as the sole broker in
the sale. The attached photo of “450-5” was taken prior to her conversion as a deck barge.
4,400BHP twin screw tug sold on private and confidential basis.
Purvis Marine Ltd. of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada has purchased the
U.S. flag, 260’ x 52.5’ x 12’ super-jumbo hopper barge ‘MVBS 206’ (exSJ206) from TPG Mt Vernon Marine LLC of Indianapolis, Indiana. Built in
1984 at Jeffboat, Inc. of Jeffersonville, Indiana, the steel constructed hopper
barge has a single forward rake and square stern with eight compartments.
The 3,100dwt barge has a 48’ high steel coaming and cap surrounding the
single open 127,660cft hopper. Barge was in very good condition for her age
and service and most recently used a receiver barge. She operated in the
U.S. River system for most of her life. The new owner intends to re-flag the
barge to Canadian registry and move her north to the Canadian Great Lakes to be used in construction projects.
This is the third barge sold to this Buyer, this year and first sale from this Seller. Marcon acted as Buyer’s broker.
Curtin Maritime Corporation of Long Beach, CA purchased
a second U.S. flag, 11,900BBL ocean tank barge, the
“Foss 185 P3”, from Foss Maritime of Seattle. The 185’ x
50’ x 11.5’ tank barge is a sister to the “Foss 185 P1”
purchased by the same Buyer, through Marcon, only two
months ago. Built in 1980 at Kaiser Steel Corporation in
Napa, CA, the single skin barge is built of welded steel,
with a raked bow, square stern and aft skegs. An aft
mounted barge shack contains a small office and
machinery space for engines and cargo pumps. The barge
has been used primarily on the U.S. West Coast for transport of petroleum. The new Owner will tow the barge to
Southern California where he intends to convert her to a deck barge, as he has now done for the ex-“185 P1”. This
is the fourth barge sold by Marcon from this Seller in the last year and the second sale to this Buyer. Marcon acted
as sole broker in the transaction.
Brusco Tug and Barge of Longview, Washington sold their U.S. flag,
inland dump barge “Mud Pup” to Pacific & Marine LP of Seattle, WA. Built
in 1952 in Astoria, OR, to very stout standards, the 122’ x 35’ x 10’ x 2’10”
dump barge has a capacity of about 700m3. Presently located in
Sacramento, CA, the 5 bin, bottom dump scow has been in use in
Northern California for many years on various construction projects. The
new owner is having the barge towed north to Puget Sound for use in his
marine construction business. This is the first sale to this Buyer. Marcon
acted as sole broker in the transaction.

Waterways C. A. of Los Samanes, Venezuela has purchased the
Panamanian flag, twin screw tug “Reliance” from Intercoastal Marine Inc. of
Ancon, Panama. The 69’ x 22.1’ x 8.9’ steel hull tug was built in 1956 at
Pelican Marine Ways and overhauled in 2001. Vessel’s main engines are a
pair of CAT D397s each turning a fixed pitch propeller on a 5.5 “ shaft
through Twin Disc Model 3131 gears with a 3.03:1 reduction. Ship’s power is
provided by a pair of 30 kW Delco, 3 phase, 208 volt generators powered by
GM3-71s. Capacities include: 10,000 gallons of fuel oil, 3,000 gallons of
fresh water, 200 gallons of lube oil and 30 gallons of hydraulic oil. Air
conditioned accommodations include Captain’s cabin, with one three-man
and one four-man bunkrooms. Sellers delivered the vessel to the new Owner in August on the vessel’s own bottom.
This is Marcon’s the first sale to the Buyer. Marcon acted as sole broker in this transaction.
5,750BHP Anchor Handling Tug Supply Boat sold on private and confidential basis.
Kwajalein Range Services awarded the twin screw tug "Gulf Condor" (LT101) to Northland Transportation Company of Seattle, Washington. The
tug was sold on behalf of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense
Command acting by and through U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll/Reagan Test
Site. The 121' x 34' tug is a former ocean-going, anchor-handling tug
acquired by U.S. Army from Zapata Marine, along with her sister-vessel
"Gulf Raven", now named "Mystic" (LT-102), and sent to Kwajalein Atoll
in 1987. Both tugs were built in 1981 by Quality Equipment of Houma,
Louisiana for Gulf Mississippi Marine, later to become Zapata Gulf.
Both “Gulf Condor” and the “Gulf Raven” have always been kept in full ABS class
with the notation +A1 Towing Service +AMS, in addition to being maintained to
U.S. Army AR 56-9 standards. "Gulf Condor" is powered by a pair of EMD 12645E6 diesels totaling 3,000BHP at 900RPM with Reintjes 4.95:1 gears driving
fixed pitch, 4-blade 108" x 108" props in kort nozzles. Bollard pull is estimated at
abt. 50 tons. The tug is fitted with an Intercon DD-200 double drum 200,000lb.
line pull anchor handling / towing winch, Intercon HSW-20 hydraulic anchor
windlass, hydraulic tow pins and a crane. Capacities include abt. 134,610g fuel,
15,500g fresh water and 2,500g lube oil. Air conditioned accommodations are
provided for 11 crew in five staterooms. As expected due to her government
ownership, “Gulf Condor” is fully fitted with communications and navigational aids including two Furuno radars,
SSB, three VHF's, GMDSS, Autopilot, Sperry gyro with three repeaters, two GPS, fathometer, AIS, Navtex and
Satcom. At the time of the sale the tug was located at Kwajalein Atoll which is abt. 1,405nm from Guam, 2,157nm
from Honolulu and 4,566nm from Seattle.
Regardless of the “Gulf Condor’s” remote location, she attracted a lot of
attention due to her good condition and relatively light use over the past 21
years. Fifteen bids were received from potential U.S. and foreign buyers
halfway across the globe. New Owners are renaming the tug "Polar Storm"
and plan to use her in their Pacific Northwest operations. Shortly after her
arrival in Seattle, WA, Northland intends to start repowering the vessel with
CAT 3516Cs developing a total of 4,000HP at 1,600RPM. The project is
expected to not be completed until April 2009 due to the delivery schedule of
the main engines and reduction gears. The primary reason to re-power is for
better fuel economy, while at the same time getting another 1,000BHP. New

“Polar Storm’s” new CAT 3516C engines are expected to consume about 2,500
gallons per day while delivering 4,000HP compared to the original EMD 12645E6s that used 3,000 gallons per day while only delivering 3,000HP. With
diesel fuel at abt. US$ 3.50 to US$ 4.00 per gallon, savings for a normal
operating season of 220 days is expected to be about US$ 385,000 per year.
Northland operates a common carrier tug and barge service with year-round
service to Southeast and Central Alaska as well as Hawaii, and seasonal service
to Western Alaska ports and villages. In 2007, Northland's 30th year of operation,
it handled more than 750,000 tons of cargo through its Terminal 115 facility in
Seattle with a sailing schedule including nine Western Alaska sailings, 58 sailings
to Southeast Alaska, 65 sailings to Central Alaska, and 25 sailings to Hawaii. Marcon acted as sole and exclusive
broker in the sale.
The 59.2m Anchor Handling / Fire-fighting Vessel "Armada Tuah 10"
was time-chartered from Bumi Armada Navigation SDN BHD of
Eastern Malaysia for a short-term contract in the Western Pacific by
private interests. The 1,324mtdw vessel was built by Nam Cheong in
Malaysia in 1993 and classed ABS +A1 +AMS FiFi 1, Towing Vessel.
“Armada Tuah 10” is powered by a pair of MAK 6M25 diesels
developing a total of 5,000BHP with a bollard pull of abt. 67.5 tons.
Vessel is fitted with a double drum AHT winch and tow pins. Marcon
was the sole broker in this transaction.
Marcon International, Inc. is pleased to announce the sale of the 340' x 78' x 19'
depth ocean deck barge "Timberjack" to McKeil Marine, Ltd. of Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada. The 7,500dwt, ABS +A1 ocean deck barge was built by FMC
Corp. of Portland, OR in 1984 and has worked on the US West Coast in various
Owners’ service since delivery. She was operated by Northland Services in her
early years as the “Alaska Trader”. Her original design was fairly specific with a
required 78' beam to allow her to fit through the Ballard Ship Canal locks to
carry cargo to Northland's old facility on Lake Washington. This beam though
allows her to also fit through St. Lawrence Seaway locks into the Great Lakes.
“Timberjack” was most recently employed
as a log carrier and is fitted with a wood wear deck, reinforced concrete pad
amidships supporting a crawler crane and breakwater forward. Internals are
coated and she has two longitudinal and six transverse water tight bulkheads.
While always employed in deck service, the barge was originally built to oil
tank scantlings. She is fitted with a long spoon bow, skegs aft and reportedly
tows very well. New Owners are mobilizing the barge, to be renamed
“Niagara Spirit” to the Canadian Great Lakes where they will undertake a
major upgrade and refit for their required service under Canadian flag.

Constellation Maritime of Boston, MA sold the 2,250BHP twin screw tug
“Scorpius” (ex – Joseph T, Olympic, Georgeann) to Donjon Marine Co.,
Inc. of New Jersey for service in their fleet supporting dredging, marine
construction and salvage operations. The tug, renamed “Meagan Ann” by
her new Owners, was built in 1975 by Marine Power & Equipment;
Seattle, WA. She regularly towed for companies such as Baggen Tug &
Barge, Sampson Tug & Barge, Knappton and Foss Maritime throughout
the Pacific Northwest and Southeastern Alaska before being transferred
to Constellation Maritime on the East Coast. The 81.7' x 28.7' x 11' tug
has tankage for abt. 25,000 gallons of fuel and is driven by twin
CATD399TA diesels producing a total of 2250BHP through CAT 4.22:1 reduction gears to 88" x 85" fixed pitch 4blade stainless steel propellers. She has a raised sheer forward for good seakeeping ability, but is compact with a
low profile and reported to be maneuverable in tight spaces. “Meagan Ann” is fitted with 50T Beebe winches for her
face wires and a double drum hydraulic towing winch aft with capacity for about 1,800' of 1.75" wire per drum. The
tug has quarters for 7 crew, and is equipped with full electronics, safety and FiFi systems in compliance with her
service. Marcon acted as sole broker in the sale. This is the fourth sale from Foss Maritime, or affiliated company,
and the eleventh tug sale concluded by Marcon so far this year.
Port City Tug, Inc. of Muskegon, Michigan, a subsidiary of Michigan
based Sand Products Corporation, has recently acquired the
4,300BHP, twin screw tug “Michaela McAllister” (ex-Betty Culbreath)
from McAllister Towing of New York City. The yet to be renamed tug
will serve a future charter contract on the Great Lakes. "Betty
Culbreath" was originally built in 1967 by Gulfport Shipbuilding of Port
Arthur, Texas along with two sister-tugs – the “Ellena Hicks” and
“Libby Black” for Gulf Coast Transit. For most of their lives, these
three tugs handled TECO owned, 20,000dwt, dry bulk barges
between Tampa and the Mississippi River. Principal dimensions of the
tug are 123.5’ x 31.6’ x 19’ depth. She is powered by twin EMD 12645E5 turbocharged diesels with Falk gears and fitted with an upper
pilothouse with 45’ height of eye and lower pilothouse with 24’ height
of eye. Marcon acted as sole broker in this transaction.
Capital Signal Company Limited of Trinidad recently completed the
purchase of the Standby/Supply vessel "Grampian Supporter" (exGrampian Freedom, ex-Maersk Puncher) from sellers Craig Group
Limited of Aberdeen, UK on private terms. "Grampian Supporter" was
built in 1976 by J. Pattje of Holland. She measures 207' x 46' x 19' with
draft of about 16' on 1,942mt DWT. Vessel is powered by two MAK
6M452AK main engines producing a total of 3,200BHP driving twin fixed
pitch propellers. She is also fitted with one Ulstein TV90 400BHP tunnel
bow thruster. Electrical generation is provided by three Detroit Diesel
auxiliaries producing 600kVa. “Grampian Supporter” is classed DNV
+1A1, Ice Class C, Safety Standby Rescue. Up until delivery, she was working offshore U.K. She is now headed to
Trinidad under her new name "Native Pride" and will continue work in the oilfield, primarily as a survey vessel.

Curtin Maritime Corp. of Long Beach, CA purchased the 11,900 BBL ocean tank
barge, “Foss 185 P1”, from Foss Maritime of Seattle. The 185’ x 50’ x 11.5’ tank
barge was built in 1979 at Kaiser Steel in Napa, CA. She is a single skin barge,
built of welded steel, with a raked bow, square stern and skegs. An aft mounted
barge shack contains a small office and machinery space for engines and cargo
pumps. Barge has been used primarily on the U.S. West Coast for transport of
petroleum. New Owner plans to convert the barge to deck service for general
cargo and work in designated areas on the US West Coast. This is the third
barge sold from this Seller in the last month by Marcon and the first sale to this
Buyer. Marcon acted as sole broker in the transaction.
Further to other recent barge purchases, Offshore Express, Inc. of Houma,
Louisiana purchased the 230' x 60' x 15' ocean-going deck barge "Polar Trader"
from Northland Services, Inc. of Seattle, WA. The 3,507dwt, ABS + A1 classed
unit was built by Zidell Marine Corp. in Tacoma, WA during 1978. Barge has a
spoon bow, raked stern with twin towing skegs aft and fitted with a short raised
foc’stle bow and a wooden wear deck. “Polar Trader” until recently was trading in
Alaska in container service, but returned to Seattle for the delivery to new
owners. The barge is now expected to head south with its first load-out in a
couple of weeks. This was the third barge Marcon International sold to Offshore
Express this year. Marcon acted as the sole broker in the transaction.
The 3,200BHP twin screw tug “MT Mehran” was sold by Mew (Pvt) Ltd. of
Pakistan to European buyers on private terms. The 26.8m x 8.0m x 3.8m depth
x 2.6 – 3.2m design draft was built as the “Big Fair 327” in 2003 by Zhuhai
Shipbuilding, China and is classed Bureau Veritas I Maltese Cross Hull & Mach
with Unrestricted Navigation. Tug is powered by twin Cummins KTA50M2 (U.S.
mfg.) producing a total of 3,200BHP @ 1,800RPM via ZF-Masson RSL1250
6.01:1 marine gears to twin fixed pitch props in kort nozzles. “Mehran” comes
equipped with a 50mt SWL towing hook:
electro-hydraulic quick release, an electrohydraulic, 50mt brake tow winch, and fore and
aft tow bitts. The tug’s capabilities also include an external fire fighting monitor
~400 cbm/hr with a range of >100M. Wheelhouse is fully equipped with full com /
navaids including GMDSS; SSB; GPS; autopilot; weatherfax; radar; radar
transponder; magnetic compass; echo sounder and EPIRB. Air conditioned
quarters include wheelhouse and messroom, 2 senior officer cabins and two 6
berth crew cabins totaling 14 persons. Tug is scheduled to leave the Middle East
and head for shallow water operations in Europe. Marcon represented sellers.

Another U.S. flag, 120’ crewboat, the “Mr. Jack”, was sold to private
Panamanian buyers. The Seller was Jambon Boat Rentals LLC of
Golden Meadow, Louisiana. The vessel was built in 1978 by Gulf
Craft, Inc. of Patterson, Louisiana originally as a 100’ aluminum
crewboat but was lengthened slightly, along with the addition of a new
house, at Progressive Shipyard in 1992. Presently she is 120’ x 26’ x
9’, with a current U.S. Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection for 54
passengers and a crew of five. She can carry 50 Tons of deck cargo
on her 45’ x 22’ open aft deck. “Mr. Jack” also carries 2,800 gallons of
fuel and 10,000 gallons of fresh water in her below deck tanks. She’s
powered by four Detroit Diesel 12V71TI engines providing total of 2,100 BHP with a top speed of abt. 22 knots.
Ship’s electrical power is provided by a pair of 30 kW / GM3-71 generators. Vessel carries a full complement of
navigation equipment. New Owners will be delivering the vessel on her own bottom to Panama. The vessel has had
a long series of Owners over the years and has borne the ex-names of “Seminole”, “Thunderbolt”, “Seabulk
Aransas”, “Marsha-G”, “Christy Jett”, and “Capt. Tim”. This is the fifth crewboat sold to the Buyer in the last month
and the first vessel sold from the Seller. Marcon acted as sole broker in the transaction.
Offshore Express, Inc. of Louisiana has purchased two ocean-going, ABS
loadlined, flat deck barges from Hawaiian-based operators Young Bros. Ltd. of
Honolulu. “Kahoku” is a 260’ x 74’ x 14’, 2,133GRT barge built in Galveston,
Texas in 1976. The 6,339dwt “Malana” (ex-DTB-40) is a 286.1’ x 76.1’ x 17.4’,
3,202GRT deck barge built by West Gulf
Marine, Inc. in 1977 with an 1,800PSF
uniform deck load and fitted with an open
house covering the forward third of her
deck. Both barges were U.S. flagged and
located in Puget Sound at the time of the
sale. They are scheduled to depart the Pacific Northwest shortly for Central
America to be drydocked prior to starting on their next assignment for the new
Owners. Marcon acted as sole broker in the sale, having handled the sale and
purchase of other equipment for both Buyers and Sellers over the years.
Four U.S. flag, 110’ x 24’, aluminum hull crewboats from Stanco Boat Rental
Ltd. of Freeport, Texas were sold to private operators in Panama. The four
vessels, “Milky Way”, “Brenda Lee”, “Twix” and “Kit-Kat” are all being delivered
promptly on their own bottom directly to the Buyer. Three of the vessels are
sister boats, built at Breaux Bay Craft in Loreauville, Louisiana, in 1979 and
1980. Each of these vessels has capacity for about 38 tons of deck cargo plus
seating for 59 passengers and
accommodations for a crew of five.
The fourth vessel “Brenda Lee”
was built at Gulf Craft of Patterson,
LA in 1982. She has aft deck cargo capacity of 40 tons, passenger
seating for 55 and accommodations for up to seven crew members.
All four are powered by four GM 12V71TI diesel engines producing
about 2,050 BHP @ 1,800 RPM. All vessels have ships power
provided from twin 30 kW generators powered by GM3-71 diesels.
Vessels are all USCG certified with full navigation aids. These are the
first vessels Marcon has sold from this Seller. Marcon acted as sole Broker in the sale.

The 4,610bhp, 1,018dwt AHTS “Sea Diligent” has been sold by
GulfMark Offshore to private regional operators. The Halter Marine
built, Panama flag vessel measuring 192.5’ x 40’ x 15’ x 13’ had until
recently been working offshore Thailand, and was delivered to Buyers
upon charter completion. Two EMD 12-645E7B main engines drive
fixed pitch propellers, creating abt. 50ts bollard pull. “Sea Diligent” is
equipped with a Smatco double drum waterfall winch with an
estimated 350,000lb. line pull. Vessel is capable of 14kts maximum
speed burning approx. 13ts / day, however at a more economical
10.5kts she burns just 9ts /day. Built as “Petromar Chief” for Petromar
Offshore of Rockport, TX in 1981 as one of several sister-ships, she was sold to Maritime (Pte) Ltd. in 1992 by the
U.S. Maritime Administration. At that time she was completely overhauled and renamed “Sentosa Eagle”. Gulf
Offshore purchased the vessel in 1996 and operated her as part of their Southeast Asian fleet since. Classed ABS
+A1, +AMS, Unrestricted Service the vessel’s next Special Survey is not due until November 2012. “Sea Diligent” is
able to carry a deck load of 686T on its 304m2 deck (32m x 9.5m). Marcon acted as sole broker.
Marcon is pleased to announce the sales of two more large single-hull tank
barges to foreign, private buyers. The single-hull, clean tank barge "Ethan
Matthew" (ex-Newark, ex-New York) was sold by Blake Marine Group. The
barge was built in 1970 by Gulfport Shipbuilding in Port Arthur, Texas originally
for Moran Towing. She measures 508' length over all x 90' beam x 41.25' depth
with a capacity of 258,056 barrels in 15 uncoiled cargo tanks and a deadweight
of 29,308 long tons on 33.3' draft. She last traded in gasoline and diesel on the
U.S. East Coast. Same Buyers also purchased the single-hull, coiled, black-oil
barge "HMC 17000" (ex-Flor, ex-Florida) from sellers, Hannah Marine Corp.
The barge was built for Moran Towing in 1980 by Todd Shipyard in Houston,
Texas. She measures 400' overall length x 78' beam x 31.75' depth with a
capacity of 132,660 barrels and a deadweight of 16,550 long tons on 26.24'
draft. Both barges were formerly classed with ABS, but at the time of their sales
had been laid-up for several years on the U.S. Gulf Coast. She last traded in
black oil service on the U.S. East Coast. Both barges are fitted with deep
notches. They are scheduled to be reactivated and repositioned overseas by
new owners. Marcon acted as sole broker in both sales. To-date in 2008
Marcon has sold six large single-hull ocean or ex-ocean tank barges totaling
almost one million barrels capacity.
West African clients, to whom Marcon has brokered the sale of 9 large
single skin tank barges and 7 tug boats over the past 30 months, have now
purchased the tank barge “M-215” (ex-Ocean-215) for their service
lightering tankers in Nigeria. The same buyers recently purchased the
5,750BHP twin screw tug “Sea Flyer”, which they will use to tow the barge
“M-215” from its current location in Tampa to Lagos, Nigeria. “M-215” was
built by Avondale S/Y, Louisiana in 1975. Her principal dimensions are 536’
x 84’ x 34’. Cargo capacity is 213,899bbls of clean product carried in 14
tanks and pumped via 4 segregated deep well pumping systems. The
sellers, OSG of Tampa, FL, removed the barge from service and tied her
up in 2007 to be sold. Marcon was the sole broker involved in this sale.

Toisa Ltd of Bermuda recently concluded the sale of
the "Toisa Mariner" to Bluestone Offshore Pte on
private terms. The "Toisa Mariner" is a 1980
Marystown shipyard built, DP 1 PSV/ROV Support
vessel measuring 236' x 52' x 21' capable of approx
2,100ts DWT. Originally commissioned as the "Balder
Baffin", the unit was also named "Sable Sea" and
"Marinous", until the current owners purchased it in
1990. The vessel is powered by two Alco 12-251
diesels producing 2,740BHP each driving two 4 bladed controllable pitch propellers. Dynamic positioning and maneuverability is provided by two 600BHP tunnel
bow thrusters, and one each 600BHP and 400BHP stern thruster, which are all Brunvoll design and variable pitch.
Electrical generation is provided by three 450kW / CAT D3412 auxiliaries. The Lloyds +100A1 Classed unit comes
equipped with a Sikorsky S76/Bell 212 sized helipad, a 520m2 clear stern deck rated at 5mt/m2, a 3.66m2
moonpool and can berth up to 53 persons. The vessel is set to remain under the Bahamas flag but be renamed
"Bluestone Topaz", with the new owners intending to convert the unit to a deepwater geotechnical drilling unit. Until
recently, the vessel had been working on a term contract offshore Qatar. Marcon acted as sole broker in this
transaction. This was the second time Marcon has sold this vessel in its life. The vessel is currently available

Wasser & Winters Corp of Longview, WA has sold the 60’ x 22’ x 9.5’ twin screw
tug “Lori Ann” to Boyer Towing of Seattle, WA and Ketchikan, AK. She is
powered by a pair of Cummins KT1150 diesel engines, producing a total of
940BHP @ 1,800RPM and each turning a 52” x 40”, 4-bladed stainless steel
propeller on a 3 ½ “ stainless steel shaft through a Twin Disc MG514 gears (w/
5.34:1 reduction). She carries a Markey single drum tow winch with 2,000’ of 1
½” wire rope, two 30 kW GM 3-71/Delco generators, a 2” Seawater monitor and
two 325psi air compressors. Built at Zigler Shipyards of Mermentau, LA in 1972,
the tug has been working steady for the last few years in Icy Bay, AK and
recently made the run down the coast and around the outside of Vancouver
Island to Port Angeles for dry-docking. New Owner will put the vessel through a
short refurbishment program and has contracts in hand to put her into
immediate service. Marcon acted as sole broker on the transaction.

delivery of a second 1,200BHP inland river push boat for the same
Buyers as in 2007. The first vessel was built in 2007 at Serodino
Shipyard, Inc. in Chattanooga, TN and was sold on completion to
private interests in the U.S. Gulf region. The second vessel was
recently delivered to the same Buyers. This design is known as the
"Tiger Class", and is 52' x 22.5' x 7.5' depth of hull. She is a typical
inland river 3 deck boat design with twin Cummins KTA19M's
providing a total of 1,200BHP @ 1,800RPM. The vessel has a height
of eye of roughly 24' and is fitted with quarters for 4 crew on the
second deck and a small galley, head and shower on the main deck.
Her plate thicknesses are 3/8" plate hull with ½" plate over wheels & bilge knuckles. Twin Disc MG-5202DC 4.06:1
reduction gears drive twin fixed pitch 52" x 40" 4-blade Nibral propellers. The vessel has two steering rudders and
four flanking rudders. She is fitted with push knees forward and electric barge winches. Two 40kW / Cummins
4B3.9 diesel generator sets provide auxiliary power and light. Vessel has capacities for 6,000g fuel, 1,500g fresh
water and about 165g lube oil.

Andrie Inc. of Muskegon, MI has sold “en-bloc” the US flag, derrick barges, “Candace Andrie” and “Meredith
Andrie”, to Purvis Marine Ltd. of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The 150’ x 50.2’ x 9.2’ “Candace Andrie” was built in
1958 at Calumet S/Y in Chicago, IL. The 140’ x 50’ x 9’ “Meredith Andrie” was built in 1971 at Twin City S/Y in St.
Paul, MN. Both barges are similarly outfitted with each supporting a LIMA
2400B (150 Ton) crawler crane on timbered wear decks with, three spuds and
supporting spud winches, generator, air compressor, a break room, spare tool
compartment, 12,000+ fuel storage capacity, and a GPS system. Both barges
are in good condition having worked in freshwater for the last several years on
various construction projects in the US Great Lakes and most recently on a
dredging project near La Crosse, WI. The new owner intends to reflag the
barges Canadian and move them north to the Canadian side of the Great
Lakes. Marcon has brokered several sales with both parties over the years and
acted as sole broker in the transaction.
Crowley Maritime Services of Seattle, WA sold their U.S. flag, twin
screw tug “Sea Flyer” to West African interests. The 136’ x 36.5’ x
19.2’ depth tug was built in 1968 by J.R. McDermott; Amelia,
Louisiana. Tug was classed ABS +A1, Towing Service, +AMS.
Unrestricted Service. She is powered by a pair of EMD 16-645E5
diesels developing a total of 5,750BHP at 900RPM to 5-blade 120” x
99” 5-blade stainless steel open props. Bollard pull is abt. 135,000lbs.
ahead and abt. 95,000lbs. astern. Tug was lying idle in Lake Charles,
Louisiana at the time of the sale. Marcon acted as the sole broker in
the sale and has sold over 80 vessels and barges to or from Crowley
plus over a dozen tugs and barges to Buyers over the years.
The Japanese flag, 4,000HP Azimuthing Tug "Hitachi Maru” was sold
to private buyers. With her 56.6mt bollard pull and azimuthing stern
drives, this well-maintained tug drew a lot of interest from potential
buyers across the globe as soon as we started marketing her. The
37.6m x 9.4m x 4.2m ASD tug was built by the well-respected
Kanagawa Shipyard of Kobe, Japan in 1994. A pair of Yanmar 6N260EN 4 cycle, six cylinder 260 x 360mm diesels driving Kawasaki KST180ZF/A fixed pitch Rex-peller
azimuthing props provide abt. 56.6mt
bollard pull at 110% output and a
free running speed of abt. 14.3kn. Tug is fitted with a single drum tow winch with a
capacity for 600m 54mm wire and a 50 tonne SWL tow hook. Firefighting is
provided by a 180m3/h fire pump and a 3,000LPM monitor. Vessel was classed
JG Coastal Service at the time of purchase. Marcon represented Sellers in this
transaction and previously acted as their broker in the purchase of several other
vessels in the 1980’s/90’s. Following the sale, new Owners plan to re-register the
tug outside of Japan and utilize her for offshore towing within Far East waters.

The 51.85m x 10.7m Barbados flagged "Ocean Wrestler" (ex-Hadisangsuria, exOcean Wrestler, ex-Wrestler) has been sold five times in the 36 years since she
was built by Beliard Murdoch-Ostend of Belgium for Union de Remorquage et
Sauvetage (URS) of Antwerpen in 1972. Marcon International was involved in
four of those sales. After working for URS for approx. seventeen years the twin
screw, the deep sea salvage tug was brokered by Marcon to Pacific Towing
Services of North Vancouver, British Columbia. Pacific Towing refurbished the
tug at a cost of over US$ 1.5 million to tow tandem 7,100dwt enclosed paper
barges coastwise between British Columbia and California. Although the tug and
barges performed well on the route even through the rough Pacific Northwest
winters, the trade was taken over by a ship in the mid-90's and the tug and barges were tied up in Port Alberni on
the West Coast of Vancouver Island. After a period of lay-up, all three units were sold to Southeast Asia and the tug
was renamed "Hadisangsuria". The tug and the two barges saw minimal use in the region and in June 1998
Marcon arranged the sale back into Canadian hands again - this time to McKeil Marine Ltd. of Hamilton, Ontario.
McKeil mobilized the equipment back across the Pacific to North America, selling the barges for conversion to
floating power generation and retaining the tug for their own service. While under McKeil's ownership “Ocean
Wrestler” sailed from Nova Scotia to Greenland, working at times in the ice, to find two missing B-17 bombers from
World War II plus towed a 183m long drydock from Norfolk, Virginia to Talcahuano, Chile for the Chilean Navy via
the Panama Canal. She also supported a cable laying project in international waters on the Canadian East Coast
and performed various other tows.
Pacific Link Ocean Services of New Westminster, BC purchased the
deep-sea tug in 2000 and sailed her back through the Panama Canal to
the British Columbia. Under Pacific Link's ownership the tug made
numerous coastwise and trans-Pacific tows between the West Coast and
both Russia and China - plus once
even appeared in an episode of
"X-Files" in 2001. Finally in 2008 it
became time for the tug to move
on again, this time to new owners

Unusual when compared to many European ocean deep-sea tugs, "Ocean Wrestler",
like a number of other high horsepower tugs built for URS in the 70's and early 80's, is
powered by a pair of EMDs mated up to European variable pitch props. "Wrestler"
was fitted with EMD 12-645E5 turbo-charged diesels producing 4,300BHP at 900RPM
to Zeise variable pitch propellers in trainable kort nozzles. This gives her a bollard pull
of about 60 tonnes, speed of abt. 13 - 14kn free running and range of abt. 9 10,000nm. Tug was also fitted with a 250Hp bow thruster. Towing gear consists of two
Brusselle constant-tension, enclosed towing winches with 3,000' 2.25" wire and 2,000'
1.68" wire, a bridle handing winch, hydraulic tow hook and hydraulic tow pins. A
Brussel hydraulic pump powered by a 250HP Deutz diesel provides the hydraulics for
the deck machinery. Two 300m3/h fire pumps provide water to two fire monitors
mounted in the after mast. Accommodations include berths for 26 in 14 cabins, a
hospital, two mess rooms and saloon. She is classed Bureau Veritas I +Hull +Mach
Tug, Unrestricted Service.

One distinctive feature I remember about the “Wrestler” is that she, along with a
number of other URS tugs were traditionally fitted with either a BMW or
Mercedes steering wheel (I forget which) instead of the normal wooden or
stainless steel ship’s wheel. She still has that same wheel today. Regardless of
how she was steered, "Ocean Wrestler" was always recognized as a welldesigned, well-built and well-maintained deep-sea ocean tug ideally suited for
international tows world-wide. She has always been one of Marcon's favorites.
Her high bow and graceful sheer is easily recognizable in any port. A lot of
credit has to be given to her builders Beliard Murdoch, Union de Remorquage
et Sauvetage and the Letzers for creating a beautiful vessel. URS was
established in 1870, when captain Henri Gerling started with a fleet of six
tugs in on the river Scheldt under the name Remorquage à Hélice s.a.
(S.à.R.H.), which was later allied in 1928 with S.A. Remorquage Letzer
(established in 1923). In 1974 they merged into the URS Group to provide a
strong unified organization. URS extended its activities beyond its
traditional towing and salvage role on the Scheldt when it participated, from
the very beginning, in the development of the North Sea oil fields, starting
with the "Groningen” field in the late fifties, followed by the "Ekofisk" and
"Forties" fields. "Wrestler" was one of the first of a large fleet of oceangoing
tugs built, all showing her distinctive high bow and fine lines.
The utility and safety/standby boat "Meragi" was sold by Southeast
Asian sellers to Middle East buyers on private terms. The vessel,
built at Mipe Shipbuilding Pte Ltd. Singapore in 1980, measures
98.4' x 24.93' x 10.82' depth with loaded draft of 7.54'. Deadweight
carrying capacity is 180mtdw. The aft cargo deck measures 18' x
12'. She is powered by two Cummins KT2300M diesels producing
1,400BHP @ 1,800RPM which provide a cruising speed of about 10
knots and range of 9 days. Vessel is classed ABS +A1, +AMS. She is also fitted with 1 x 5mt tow hook for light
towing duties. Vessel has accommodations for eight crew plus twelve passenger seats. Marcon International, Inc.
acted as sole broker in this transaction.
Indonesian owners PT Baruna Raya Logistics, completed the sale of
their 2002 built, aluminum crewboat “Poksay” to private Middle East
buyers. The vessel, built at Penguin Shipyard in Singapore, was owned
by the same owners since delivery. “Poksay” is a 34.0m x 7.6m x 3.3m
vessel powered by three MTU 16V2000 M70 diesels producing approx.
4,220BHP @ 2,100RPM. In turn this drives three 4-bladed fixed pitch
propellers via a ZF4540 gears. The vessel has a 28kts maximum speed
and a 22kts optimum speed. The aft cargo deck measures 14.6m (47.9’)
x 6.1m (20’) and is capable of carrying 200mt of cargo. She is also
provided with two fire monitors, oil dispersant tanks and two 20’ spray
arms. For accommodations, the vessel carries 56 passengers in reclining seats with three television / movie
screens plus berths for 10 crew. Com / navaids include two radars, VHF, SSB, autopilot, fathometer, magnetic
compass, gyro, GPS, Navtex and joystick control. The vessel is to be renamed and reflagged to a new registry.

The Danish flag passenger cruise ship "Sikker Havn" (ex-Flornes) was sold
by Stevns Shipping AS of Denmark to private buyers. The vessel was built
in 1967 by Felszegi Shipyard in Trieste, Italy as the Norwegian flag general
cargo pallet carrier "Trillingen". She was lengthened and converted to a
passenger cruise ship in 2004. With dimensions of 50m x 9.5m x 3.5m
depth and an operating draft of 3.3m, she is fitted to accommodate 85 day
or 38 overnight passengers in fully air conditioned accommodations.
“Sikker Havn” is propelled by a single MAK 6MU451AK diesel producing
787 BHP, allowing a cruising speed of 10kn and maximum speed of 12kn.
Maneuverability is enhanced by a 270HP bow thruster. She is classed
Bureau Veritas Hull, Mach, AUT-UMS, Passenger Ship, Unrestricted Navigation, Ice II and complies with SOLAS.
"Sikker Havn" will be repositioned from Denmark to the Middle-East where she will work as an accommodation
vessel in the oilfield following retrofitting by new owner. Marcon acted as the sole broker in this transaction.
Remolcadores Dominicanos of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic committed to a third
“Ulupinar” series, Robert Allan Ltd. design, newbuilding ASD tug from the shipyard Sanmar
Denizcilik Makina of Tuzla, Turkey. The first 40 tonne bollard pull shipdocking and
firefighting harbor tug, named “Haina”, was delivered to Remolcadores Dominicanos earlier
this year. Shortly after hand-over she sailed under her own power to the Caribbean. The
second tug is scheduled for delivery the first quarter of 2009 and the third 3,300BHP,
24.39m (80’) tug is expected to be delivered the first quarter of 2010. All three tugs are
powered by a pair of CAT 3512TA’s developing 1,650BHP each at 1,800RPM with Rolls
Royce US-155 fixed pitch azimuthing drives and high-efficiency nozzles. The tugs are also
fitted with Skum hand-operated fire monitors with SMS centrifugal pumps delivering
650m3/h at 14 bar. Marcon International, Inc. acted as sole broker in all three sales.
Union Petroleum Services (Nigeria) Ltd. purchased from a U.S. Seller, the
pressurized tank barge “Chemical 704”. The barge was originally built as a
‘Coastal’ hopper barge in 1967 in Beaumont, TX and modified for tank
service in 1989 with addition of two 282’ x 20’ diameter cylindrical, insulated
tanks to carry LPG and NH3. The two tanks were designed for handling
o
cargoes at a temperature of – 30 F at a pressure rating of 75psi. Barge’s
principal dimensions are 346’ x 53’ x 14’ depth with a cargo capacity of abt.
1.3 million gallons LPG or 2,865 short tons. The barge was previously fitted
with a refrigeration system which was removed when the barge was laid up
around 2002. New owners plan to install a new reefer system and tow the
barge from the U.S. Gulf Coast to Nigeria where it will engage in coastwise trade hauling propane. Marcon acted as
sole broker on this sale.
The first of two newbuilding Robert Allan Ltd. design 40 tonne bollard pull, ASD tugs
which Marcon announced last year were delivered by our friends at Sanmar
Denizcilik Makina of Tuzla, Turkey to Remolcadores Dominicanos of Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic. The 24.39m (80’) x 9.15m x 4.04m “Ulupinar” series
tug “Haina” is powered by a pair of CAT 3512T TA’s diesels developing a total of
3,300BHP at 1,800RPM to US-155 FP azimuthing drives from Rolls Royce. The
RINA classed tug is also fitted with Rolls Royce hydraulic towing winches fore and
aft, Data hydraulic 8” retractable tow pins and a Data hydraulic 45 tonne SWL tow
hook. Two Perkins generator sets each provide 74kVA electrical power. New
Owners plan to sail the tug on her own bottom from Turkey to Santo Domingo, where
she will be employed in ship assist work. A representative of Marcon International
attended the hand-over of the tug in Tuzla. Delivery of the second tug is scheduled for the first quarter of 2009.

Sanmar, still a family run firm, was founded in Istanbul in 1978 to operate tugs, mooring and pilot boats of the
BOTAS Pipeline Corporation located in south of Turkey, on the Mediterranean. They first became involved with
new construction in 1982 and the first tug of Sanmar's own fleet "Sanmar I" was built in 1990. Sanmar can build
tugs to suit any customer requirements, marrying its own skills with
those of renowned naval architects such as Robert Allan Ltd. of
Vancouver, Canada. Sanmar built vessels fully meet the highest
international standards and comply with the rules and regulations of the
many various international classification societies. Remolcadores
Dominicanos is a 35-year old, privately owned harbor and deep sea
towing company operating a fleet of twelve single and twin-screw tugs
between 400 and 3,300hp, three line handling launches and a 11,000bbl
fuel barge, based at ports in the Dominican Republic, offering coverage
of the Caribbean Sea, the Southern Bahamas Islands and adjacent
North Atlantic waters. Founded in 1973 in the port of Santo Domingo,
Dominican Republic by two leading shipping agency firms (Baez & Rannik and Frederic Schad), Remolcadores
Dominicanos began life with one 1,200hp World War II ex-Navy diesel-electric single screw tug, the "Saona" (exYTB 389). This tug served reliably until the end of 1989, when it was sold for scrap. Marcon has sold Remolcadores
Dominicanos several tugs and barges over the years.
Marcon recently arranged a tow for the Military Sealift Command from
San Diego, CA to Guam with the tug "Island Champion" (ex-Mogul).
The well known US West Coast single screw tug is powered by a
CAT3606 with 2,800BHP driving a fixed pitch 119" x 110" propeller in
a fixed kort nozzle through a Reintjes 5.074 gear. Her 115' x 31' x
16.5' hull provides good ocean towing capability. The vessel has a
single drum Markey TYS-32 towing winch, and packs about 100,000
gallons of fuel. The tug was originally built to ABS Class requirements
in 1965 by Albina Engine & Machinery in Portland, Oregon and has an
ABS International Loadline. She was re-powered by her former Owner
in 1997.
Marcon’s first sale of 2008 was the purchase of the U.S. flag 2,000BHP twin screw “Mr.
Nick” by E.J. Ventures of Texas from Moby Marine of Florida. The tug was built in 1976
by Slocum Iron Works, Mobile, AL and measures 99.5' x 31' x 17' depth with an ABS
Loadline draft of 14.5'. She is powered by twin
EMD8-645 diesels which drive fixed pitch open
props via Falk gears. Her Smatco 55-DAW-170
double drum waterfall winch is GM6-71 powered
and carries 3,000' 1.5" wire per drum with a line
pull of 150,000 lbs. Tankage includes 77,000
gallons fuel, 17,000 gallons water and 1,000
gallons lube oil. Tug has a raised foc’stle bow
which is well suited for ocean and coastal
towing. She has quarters for 12 crew in 4 cabins,
and is fully air-conditioned.

“Miss Paulina II” – Sold in June to a Bayou LaBatre buyer. Dimensions are
82.5’ x 26’ x 10.8’. Built by Rodriguez Boat Builders, Bayou Labatre in 1996.
Twin screw boat driven by a pair of CAT 3408 diesel engines producing a total
of 940 BHP.
“Tan Vinh IV” – Sold in February to a fishing company based in Honolulu,
Hawaii. The vessel will be modified for long line fishery in the Pacific.
Dimensions are 88.4’ x 26’ x 10.2’. Built by B&B Boat Builders, Bayou Labatre
in 2001. Single screw boat driven by a CAT 3412 engine producing 540 BHP.
New owner will deliver the boat from Alabama to Hawaii on its own bottom.
In 2007, Marcon sold or chartered a total of 54 vessels and barges. Since 1990, we have brokered a total of 926
vessels and barges for sale or charter, an average of just over 48 per year. A full list is available on request. We
regretfully did not keep close track of those sold before 1990.
