Great skiing, great company and great staff – making it a great holiday! Spectacular ski resorts, excellent chalets, best staff in the world Dave Brown, Alpe d’Huez, January 2012 Quality Christian Ski Holidays 2012/13 Awesome skiing, majestic mountains, amazing chalets in exceptional locations, quality service, wonderful food and wine, inspiring teaching and special times with God – all of these our guests have come to expect. Yet so often we’ve heard what tops the list is...our staff! We are especially proud of our teams – they are truly unique! We thank God for each and every one. The Psalmist writes, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” We aim for our resorts to provide that place of spiritual and physical restoration and nourishment. We rejoice to hear that Sarah Whittaker, among many others, has said, “I have come back completely refreshed and renewed.” To be told by the McCulloughs,“It is hard to improve on perfection!” does set the bar rather high for the coming season! Nevertheless in this Olympic year we are again looking for a Personal Best and, with the Lord’s grace and strength, our goal remains to provide you with the best holiday experience we can. Please join us for an exceptional ski holiday. Ben & Clare Turner, Alpe d’Huez, Christmas 2011 & Your Richmond holiday includes... The Wright family, Reberty, Christmas, December 2011 About... It’s our third season returning to this incredible ski resort as Reberty Village is the ideal place to get a true feel of the Richmond ski experience; never failing to impress. Sitting at 2,000 metres in the largest ski area in the world, this is an unbeatable base from which to explore the diverse region. Chalet des Neiges is a beautiful traditional alpine chalet with modern facilities, a comfy lounge and separate dining room with central open log fires and an atmosphere to warm your soul. The chalet sits in the front row of the village looking directly over the piste, south-facing and with glistening views up into the mountains. You can ski-in ski-out onto the piste with the Three Valleys at your feet. It goes without saying that there is something for every type of skier here. Reberty Village itself is an idyllic little French ski village, with two restaurants (including a bar at the excellent Ferme de Reberty). Nearby Les Menuires, accessible by free bus, is packed with facilities including an indoor sports centre with a large pool and spa facilities. Tim Scott, Alpe d’Huez, January 2012 Snow and sunshine – Alpe d’Huez has 700 snow cannons, 300 days of sunshine and the longest black in the world 06 About... This fabulous sun-drenched and snow-sure resort is in one of France’s top five ski areas and boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year. Our traditional alpine chalet includes the luxury of free spa facilities to help ease your muscles at the end of a great day’s skiing, and the in-house licensed bar is the perfect place to sit back and relax in the friendly atmosphere. Sunrise from our balconies – anticipating a glorious day’s skiing After its debut in our programme last season, we would argue that Chalet L’Escapade is the best placed in the resort! The shops, cafés, sports centre, open-air ice rink and indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools are only a brief walk from our door, making this an excellent resort for non-skiers. You can ski-in ski-out onto a quiet green run to the lifts – just a short distance from our boot room. Tiered levels of runs make the area easily navigable for all abilities. Helen Hallett, Sainte Foy, January 2012 Quiet, uncrowded pistes for all levels, plus a vast area of untracked powder slopes for the off-piste enthusiasts 10 About... The Lodge is a luxurious chalet to which many guests love returning. Close to the centre of this idyllic Savoyard village, The Lodge is one of the very best chalets and is perfectly placed on the piste for you to ski-in ski-out. Under-floor heating, a spacious lounge with a charming log fire, a dining room overlooking the valley and a hot tub literally a snowball-throw from the piste, are a just few of the things that give this chalet its wonderful character. The resort itself is a wintertime paradise with extremely quiet slopes, some wonderful long meandering blue runs, and rarely a lift queue. Being a very child-friendly resort, Sainte Foy is the perfect destination for families during school holidays. For the adventurous, don’t be deceived by the stats of lifts and runs as this resort was tipped The Sunday Times’ ‘Number One Ski Resort in the World!’ You won’t be disappointed by the well-maintained wide open and quiet pistes, the extensive untracked powder after a snowfall, and the excitement of the natural gullies, jumps and vast off-piste that Sainte Foy offers. It’s such a fun resort, with great skiing for all levels and a really lively town. I also can’t wait to reunite with guests I’ve met in previous seasons as well as meeting many of you for the first time. I love the buzz of managing a Richmond Resort, with the wonderful fellowship between guests and staff. Sainte Foy, Tarentaise – Richard Caseley I can’t wait to contribute to Richmond’s ministry in the French Alps this winter and to provide a special Christian holiday experience for our guests. I’m delighted to be working at the picturesque Sainte Foy resort, which offers everything from beginner-friendly long blue runs to challenging off-piste, all coupled with virtually non-existent lift queues! Reberty Village, The Three Valleys – Nick Brown With a great chalet, the best ski area in the world, and an enviable location, not forgetting the storehouses of snow that are consistently lavished on us, I cannot wait to welcome you all this coming winter. My team and I are blessed to serve and have fun with you in one of the Lord’s most amazing playgrounds! Looking forward to sharing fellowship with you very soon. Operations Manager – Adam Playfair It is such a joy to hear from so many guests about how much they look forward to their next Richmond holiday, and the spiritual, emotional and physical refreshment they receive. The resort teams never cease to impress me with their ability to create an atmosphere so embracing of each guest, enabling genuine fellowship and a real sense of community. We aim to make this the best ski season ever! 14 The trees of the field will clap their hands... For New Skiers If you’ve never skied before…we’d love to help you learn because what we love even more than skiing is helping others to enjoy the slopes, learn to ski and come down their very first red run. We’ll help you every step of the way, from choosing the right skis to how to book the correct ski lessons and buying your first ever lift pass. We’ve all been there – not knowing where to start – but just ring our lovely Sunrise House team and we’ll hold your hand and answer every question, and probably ask you some you hadn’t even thought of! For Non-skiers “If you don’t ski but feel attracted by the ambience of a ski chalet and the majesty of the snow-covered mountains, join our many guests who come as non-skiers. I’ve now been on four wonderful Richmond ski holidays...but never skied! Many, like me, love the atmosphere, the time to read and relax and enjoy amazingly beautiful views from the cosy warmth of the chalets. There are many activities available other than skiing, both gentle and adventurous: walking and snow-shoeing are particularly popular, as is enjoying vin rouge or chocolat chaud in local cafés. Meeting up with other guests for coffee or lunch and enjoying Christian fellowship over mealtimes in the chalet makes for a fun-filled time for the non-skier too. Feel free to ring me if you’d like to chat about a ski holiday for the non-skier.” Clare Turner Accompanied Skiing/Ski School ...the mountains will burst into song before you For both intermediate and expert skiers we offer accompanied skiing by a qualified Richmond staff member inclusive in our prices, so whether you want to ‘cruise the blues’ or attempt The Three Valleys’ Challenge, you do not have to ski alone or even have to read a piste map! For beginners we can give you the contact details of our recommended resort ski school for you to book up either group or private individual lessons. 15 Guest testimony from the Chidlow family This was our “A QUALITY, first family skiing GOD-GIVEN, holiday and from FUN-FILLED, the outset it was great. The CARING courteous and HOLIDAY” helpful office staff dealt with all my many questions – the fact that they knew the location in detail was a real confidencebooster; they were genuinely enthusiastic but also gave tips on booking and holding places whilst flights etc. were secured. Brilliant family holidays – the very happy Chidlows! 16 and steam room were a real bonus that we had not considered – glad that you had thought of them. The food – meals and cakes were gorgeous. We joked about taking some of the staff home. The substantial ministry input was a key part which all of our family enjoyed and didn’t miss. Jesus was honoured and I still need to consider all the aspects that God was touching. This introduction was only the start as we arrived in the afternoon to be welcomed warmly and taken to be fitted out with all our ski equipment. Even the shop staff were very helpful. To add to the things that you can control, God blessed us with late snow and the delight of wonderful skiing, which has whetted our appetite for more. The whole group seemed to gel very quickly and a real sense of family was evident. We really enjoyed all the staff, they were fun and extremely warm – where do you find them? We were always provided for positively and with a smile. Richmond you really do provide a quality, God-given, fun-filled, caring holiday, in which all are able to ski, relax but also feel the presence of Jesus. We settled and relaxed very quickly. The rooms were clean and tidy (the addition of a chocolate egg on arrival was a lovely touch). We felt at home and as if nothing was too much trouble. The jacuzzis, sauna Thank you again, we hope to return soon. Stephen and Cindy, Hannah, Esther and Isaac Alpe d’Huez, Easter 2012 Something for everyone...
