Until our country can access sustainable fuel sources that are reliable and cheaper than the imported oil we use millions of US dollars to buy every month, 70% of the bill will be difficult to reduce. It is for this reason that JPS intensified its focus on energy education and efficiency with the launch of its e-Store last year. While we work on bringing cheaper fuel to generate electricity, using energy wisely is the customer’s best bet for savings. The JPS eStore is a part of our effort to partner with our customers in a more tangible way. We are committed to helping you understand and manage your energy usage, by offering guidance on better consumption habits and providing products to help measure, monitor and improve your energy efficiency. By partnering with The Jamaica Observer for TSO and offering discounts in the JPS e-Store, we are putting the power in your hands. We are helping you to acquire energy efficiency devices that will allow you to enjoy the comforts you deserve, while managing the impact on your wallet. As your energy partner, we are thrilled to participate in this novel day of discounts. Sheree Martin SVP Customer and Corporate Services Your TSO 2014 Must Stop! Choose handbags with a short, slouchy shape like the hobo. Avoid shoulder bags with a short strap, as they will make you look even taller. Select handbags that are wider than they are tall. A clutch is a good choice. Petite Despite what you see in on TV, oversized bags aren’t for small women. Large bags tend to overwhelm your frame. Avoid shoulder bags with a long strap as they will weigh you down, making you look even shorter. Plus-size Pick a large structured or boxy bag to balance out your curves. Don’t carry a bag that is too small as it will make you look larger. If you love prints, steer clear of tiny patterns. Everyone Generally speaking when it comes to handbags, the opposite shape of your body type is the most flattering. When shopping, head to the dressing room, carry the bag as you normally would and check it out from all angles in the mirror. If you are splurging on an expensive bag, choose one that you will be able to wear often. There’s no need to spend USD $500 or more on a bag that will rarely make it out of your closet. If you are buying several inexpensive bags instead, pick one classic everyday bag in black or brown. Then, experiment with fun, funky styles and metallics for your other bags. Not every handbag is ideal for every woman. So ladies, as long as you are willing to follow these simple tips you’ll be on your way to finding the perfect handbag for you. 11 SPECIAL ADVERTISING Choosing the Right Handbag For You! SPECIAL ADVERTISING 12 Reward Yourself... KeyCard Sty le The word Style may be referred to the following: Style (fiction), an aspect of literary composition Style (visual arts), style in art and painting Architectural style, Automotive styling, commonly known as styling (vehicle design) Design, the process of creating something Fashion, a prevailing mode of expression, e.g., clothing Format, various terms that refer to the style of different things Human physical appearance, Hairstyle. But this time around, let’s focus more on fashion, a prevailing mode of expression e.g. clothing, designs, shoes, accessories, and to a lesser extent, hairstyles. . . One can never be wrong in choosing his or her own style, trend; whatever you want to call it…it basically boils down to the same thing. Personally, I’m more of a comfortable-style look; I do not follow trends, neither do I stick to what’s in fashion or the latest craze in fashion. For me, it’s all about feeling down right good in your own skin! Yea, sure, I’d love to wear the shortest of shorts, the microscopic mini-skirts and those oh, so snug fitting jeans, not to mention those 6 inch heels but who am I kidding? I knew from a very long time that that’s not me…I’m not into flashy, over-the-top, must-have in my closet…no sah! I dress to feel comfortable. ’ 1 V \ 1 I’m a tall person (as some men would say, “Strong body” woman), nicely shaped, long legged and so on and so forth. Besides I don’t need to wear no darn high heels to look taller! I already am! And proud of my height too! So there! But I do not expose myself to anyone! What do I mean by that? It’s simple, really. I do not like clothes that expose me too much…no tight jeans, no tight blouse, that type of thing. I love my skin to breathe without being constricted! Sure I like wearing anything sleeveless and it’s not because I’m showing off my muscular arms…please, no way! Wearing sleeveless clothes allows your skin to breathe. As for shorts, maybe when I was smaller but not now! Do you ever notice the types of women who wear shorts nowadays? Wow! Let’s not go there! If these women are proud of flaunting what they have, let them! If they want to be the laughing stock, who am I to say: “ Don’t go out of the house dressed like that?” No sir, not me, uh uh…nooooo!!!! To each his or her own, is my motto. Speed Shopping By Rochane Anderson Time is precious! For busy professionals, parents, students and even just the everyday individual, life is all about ensuring that every minute counts and is utilized in the most productive manner. It therefore comes as no surprise that individuals may only allocate a few minutes for shopping excursions. Understandably so, one can appreciate the rationale behind this concept, after all, saving time is almost as exciting as saving money. A surplus in this luxury can do wonders for your relationship, more time to spend with your children and best of all, time to catch up on some sleep. But is this possible in the world of fashion? Or is it just a fallacious and wishful thought. Think about it, we are talking about shopping in minutes! Well, this is one of those paradoxes that we do not understand; rather, it is best to develop an inclination in the discipline. Especially during a one day sale event, not to mention, for example, a Black Friday or a Jamaica Observer Takes Style Out extravaganza, even shopping downtown, where it is absolutely exhausting, you just want to grab as much as possible from your list, and head home. The secret to speed shopping is quite simple, your list. It is very important that you have an understanding of what it is that you need, versus what you want, and then exercise discipline while you shop. The internet has made it quite convenient, facilitating this ideal. Therefore, online shopping is one possible route to consider when you are strapped for time. Now, not everyone may be privy to shopping online or may have the necessary resources to do so, but that should not avert the usefulness of this outlet. The internet can be used as a muse to help inspire you on your next prospective shopping quest. For example, your birthday is quickly approaching and you only have half an hour within a day to get your outfit. To save time, you could peruse the internet in advance, check fashion sites and other street wear blogs to see what you could possibly engineer for yourself. That’s the beauty of separatism in fashion; you could always grab a sleek top, cool jean, shoes, and be able to pull off an inimitably chic look. In addition, it is very useful to ask around and know all the trendy shops before you go shopping. There’s a plethora of hidden gems downtown, in the arcades, where even the most fashionable and fastidious could appreciate. Lastly, when shopping utilize the aid of store attendants. Tell them exactly what you need and I can guarantee that they will get it for you. Immediately you just saved 10 minutes searching for that simple polo shirt or a date night dress. This brings me to my next point, Know your size! Fit is key in fashion, therefore, if you are hoping to save time shopping, it makes no sense going to the store totally unaware of the size shoe you wear! All in all, shopping can be therapeutic, fun and exciting, but it can also be convenient and time efficient. This should definitely be a sport, since it could easily help in your workout regimen and still make it home to catch news at seven or better yet Scandal! I’m being modest when I say that I look good in jeans! Oh yes! As to pants suits and skirt suits, again I dress modestly; skirt should be right on my knees or just a teeny little bit further below the knees but not too much! (Not like how these schoolgirls have to be wearing their uniforms all the way down to the ground!!!!) Poor things! But I digress. The only way you’ll be seeing me wearing any form of mini, is in sleep mode! My thighs will embarrass me should I ever venture out into a skirt that’s riding up on my ample derriere and chunky thighs! But again, there are a lot of women, worse off than me of course, who wouldn’t hesitate to be “bare as you dare”! Why? They convince themselves that they are…wait for it…yes, you got that right…sexy!!!!! For fashionable n trendy men n womeri gears visit us today!!! As to hairstyles, I would so love to give the crème of my hair a break and wear braids or even try out a wig or two, but I’m yet to take the plunge. Accessories? My ears are pierced so I like wearing the knob earrings but nothing too large. Anything with silver jewellery I’ll wear. Gold jewellery? I have a couple gold earrings; not gold-plated, mind you, real gold. I have a weakness for watches and I’ve told myself that the only time I won’t be wearing a wristwatch, will be on my wedding day! The only accessories I’ll be wearing on that day will be my gold wedding rings and my earrings; no chains, no wristwatches, no school ring…nada, zilch, nothing. Also, find a colour wheel online or in a book. Colours opposite each other on the wheel are “complementary colours” (i.e. purple and yellow, orange and blue). Colours adjacent to each other are called “analogous colours” (i.e. orange, yelloworange and yellow). When putting together an outfit, stick to complementary and analogous colours. You can also avoid a lot of mistakes simply by matching pale clothes with pale shoes, and dark clothes with dark shoes. in the World of Fashion Reward yourself with the most cc ish back eve Too many patterns As you’ll see in on identifying and matching fabrics, the key is to wear no more than three patterns, or to match just one or two patterns with one or two solid colours. Of course, the easiest thing you can do is find one pattern you look good in (like chalk stripes or herringbone) and stick to it. Rft Jffl1E • ‘ 1 Too many fabrics In the minds of many, fabrics exist in a certain “class”. Silk is generally considered more formal than denim, while linen shirts don’t exactly scream “corduroy pants!” Leather will always be more masculine than, say, tweed. You can dance around many of these fabric mismatches by simply keeping your clothes separate. Winter fabrics tend to be heavier, denser and rougher, while summer fabrics are mostly made of natural fibres, single-layered and airy. Keep them away from each other and you should be fine. & i. i II[N i. l I k 1 vi in ( ) • 11L I1L iii pm q 1’ b 1 MasterCarc, 4fr Get up to 3%t ccish back with Scotiabc ink Gold MasterCard ® . RI.
