TRAFFIC WARNING – MONDAY 8 AUGUST
The school has received notification that on Monday, 8 August 2016, on the
development site at the cnr of Tribute St. and Monota Ave there will be a
concrete pour to a suspended slab commencing at 7.00 am through to 12.00
noon.
A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the installation.
However parents are warned to AVOID THE ENTRY TO THE SCHOOL during
the morning drop off.
Suggestions:
 Walk your child/ren to school.
 Park a distance from the school and walk your child/ren to school using the Traffic Warden cross-over on
Tribute Street.
 Is your child old enough to ride a bike to school?
 Use a ―kiss and drop‖ method in Aldam Crescent near the playground – this is a one-way circular road and
children can be dropped off on the footpath side and walk up to the school following the pathways provided.
When parking in Tribute Street or Monota Avenue please avoid parking on residents‘ lawns and, of course, NO
PARKING in the Medical Centre.
SCHOOL PHOTO DAY THIS WEEK!

Wednesday 3 August (Kindy1 Group and Yrs 1 – 6)
Thursday 4 August (Kindy 2 Group and PP)
Dear Parents,
Every student has received an INVIDUALLY NAMED Kapture Photography order envelope. The recommended
method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture‘s website as your payment is secure and can be easily
verified. Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day.
If you place your order online please DO NOT return your envelope to school.
Any parent who forgets or is unable to supply their envelope on the photo day will have five (5) days to complete an
order online. Late payment envelopes cannot be accepted by the school office or by Kapture.
Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you
have any queries before or after photo day, please direct them to the Kapture office on 9240 1714 or email
[email protected].
All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in
their class group photo available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason why your child should NOT
be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.
SCHOOL CENSUS DAY – FRIDAY 5 AUGUST
Government school funding is based on students enrolled and in attendance at school on Friday 5 August. For
students who are enrolled and not in attendance it is important for the school to have evidence of their absence i.e.
email to [email protected] or phone call, etc. Please ensure that any absence is reported to the school
before 9:00am.
If your child is going to be away on this day it is vital that you contact the school to inform of the reason for the
absence. For students in Kindy 1 group (Mon-Wed) if your child is absent during 1 – 3 August it is also important that
these absences have evidence eg telephone call, note or email. Thank you for your cooperation.
AUSTRALIAN CENSUS DAY – 9 AUGUST 2017
Tuesday 9 August is Census night in Australia. The Census provides a snapshot of Australia and the data is used to
inform services in local communities, from housing and transport to health and education. A flyer on how to be part of
the census is attached at the end of the newsletter.

THANK YOU BUNNINGS
On the 29 July, Bunnings came to Rm 11 and Rm 8 to build tool boxes with us.
Bunnings gave us step-by-step instructions on how to design our tool-boxes.
We used crafting-glue, six sections of wood, nails and a hammer to create our
boxes. We added glue to a few of the sides and then we knocked the nails into
place.
After we pounded on our hammers for an aching 40 minutes, the boxes were
ready for painting. After we had finished our tool boxes, we painted them. The
Bunning‘s ladies slopped paint onto our small plates and we shared the tray
with the person next to us. Different patterns and designs appeared on the
owner‘s tool boxes in just a few minutes.
Eventually it was time for the Bunning‘s people to leave. They grabbed their paints, aprons and extra-wood pieces and
headed out the door.
We really enjoyed our woodwork project and would like to thank Bunnings for providing all of the wood and equipment.

Parents &Citizens News
The P&C is the School parents‘ organisation through which you have an opportunity to have a say, contribute and
take part in the activities of the school. The P&C is actively involved in providing support for improving the school's
physical and learning environment.
The P&C meets once per month each during the school term - the times vary from evening to afternoon, to allow as
many parents as possible to attend. Membership to the P&C is 50 cents which allows you to vote on any business or
motions the P&C puts to a vote. If you don't wish to be a member, you can still come along and contribute and hear
what's happening in the school. Everyone is welcome to all meetings. Look at the school website to find out the dates
and times.
Next P&C meeting dates – all welcome!!
Tuesday 9 August – 7pm in the staffroom
(note 7pm start, not 7.30pm)
Thursday 15 September 2-3pm in the staffroom

The new shade sail is here!
The shade sails are an initiative of the P&C, organised by the P&C, funded by the P&C. This is a great enhancement
to the school and the P&C appreciates the donations of parents who have paid voluntary contributions to make this
possible. If you haven't made your voluntary P&C contribution ($40 per child) for 2016 yet you can make a direct
deposit:
Account name: Shelley Primary School P&C Association
BSB: 066 164 Account: 10037944
Please include the surname/year of your youngest child so a receipt can be issued.
The P&C has been requested to provide additional funding, for some items the students can use during the day in the
new shade sail area. Some ideas suggested include moveable seating (eg bean bags) and games for those students
who would like to read or play games. Come and find out more at the next P&C meeting.

WACSSO State Conference—Registrations have now closed

Naturescape Playground
Progress is being made as a number of P&C members and teachers are getting together to develop a plan of action
including what works, what doesn‘t, what‘s needed in the design, talking to landscape designers and more. It‘s
important that whatever is constructed is something that will interest the students and that it will be something they get
value and enjoyment out of and make good use of. If you are interested in being part of this planning group the P&C
would love to hear from you – [email protected]

Class Reps want to get in touch with all parents
If you are receiving news from your class rep you have obviously given your contact details to them. But some reps
have only half the parents contact details, so there are a lot of parents who are not getting information about things
going on in the classroom, about things needed by the teachers, about P&C activities and more. Ask your friends in
your classroom if they have provided details to the class reps and anything you can do to encourage them to do so
would be greatly appreciated. We have half a year to go so still lots happening around the school that they can be part
of if they get the information.

Fundraising
Shelley Primary School has been fortunate to have raised funds to spend on big projects like the shade sails, roller
doors, the bike shed, library enhancement. These are also part of the legacy of many past Shelley families who have
contributed to the school through voluntary contributions and fundraising. Fundraising also helps with smaller projects
like the purchase of much wanted new readers, resources for classrooms, awards and prizes. We are now looking to
raise funds again as we are building a new naturescape playground, purchasing more musical instruments and more.


Do you have a fundraising idea?
Do you have some time and energy to run a fundraising project – organise an event or other way of raising
money for projects around the school?
If you do, we hope you will come along to the P&C meetings, or email us: [email protected]

Hi all. Our sushi special day is tomorrow. Orders for sushi have closed now, but you can still order from the usual
menu on the day. We will have some jelly cups and pizza cheesies available for sale at recess, priced at $1.50 each.
Unfortunately, Juice Bombs are unavailable from all suppliers until August 5th, so we will be supplying LOLs
