Japanese Occupation in Borneo During World War II
Exhibition
The public are invited to view this special collection
exhibition on Japanese Occupation in Borneo During
World War II. This exhibition highlights how the people
of Borneo survived daily life and responded with grit
and resourcefulness to the Japanese Occupation, a
period of great adversity and abject scarcity. It
celebrates their resilience, tenacity, resourcefulness and
self-reliance; values that remain important and
relevant today. Glimpses of these past lives are
presented in writings, memoirs, records, and photos of
the uncertain and shattered world these survivors of
the war endured. The exhibition is open to public daily
from 11 am - 7 pm. Closed on Public Holidays.

Mukah Kaul Festival 2016
Kaul is a traditional festival celebrated by the Melanau
community living along the coast area in Sarawak. In
the past, Kaul was held as a religious ceremony to
appease the spirits of the sea, land, forest and farm
making it the most important festival in the Melanau
traditional calender. The festival is a ritual of
purification and thanksgiving as well as one of the
propitiation for good fortune. Today, it is more of
keeping a heritage alive. Its marks the beginning of the
Melanau calender which begins at the end of the
Northeast monsoon. Kaul takes place in the third week
of the month of April every year. The festival site is on
the right bank of the Mukah river estuary. During the
week-long festival, activities include stalls selling
traditional foods, entertainment programs, traditional
games. The highlight will be the ‘Serahang’ (decorated
flat round basket made from sago leaf which is raised
on a bamboo pole) procession lead by local Melanau
community elders. Some of the activities not to be
missed include playing the giant swing (Tibow) and
enjoying Melanau traditional food served on the log
(Keman Baw Bateng also known as ‘Makan Beradat’ in
Malay).

Momentum Run Kuching 3.2 2016

by a group of running enthusiasts from the City
Joggers’ Club (CJC) with the main purpose to help
Kuching runners train towards their 1st Full or Half

competitive event. This is mainly because its primary
objective is to “build up momentum” towards the Full
or Half marathon the particular runner is seeking to
participate in.
The 3rd edition of the Momentum Run consists of 3
series where every series will be more challenging, as
the mileage towards Half and Full Marathon increases.
Runners will be collecting all 3 different series run
medals wherein the 3 individual medals can be joined
