SS16 since 1933 this is Lacoste innovation performance style 11 piqué · During the 1920s the clothing worn by professional tennis players was a world away from what we see today. One of the most visible differences was that men wore long-sleeved white collared shirts with their sleeves rolled to aid movement. It was this element of the game that inspired a young René Lacoste to first showcase his innovative spirit by designing a new product that would make playing the game easier and more comfortable. Famously working with specialist André Gillier, Lacoste designed a fabric that would not only enhance and improve on-court performance, but one that still fitted the aesthetic of the clean, sophisticated appearance of the players. In true Lacoste style, his first move was to drastically take the sleeves to the elbow to allow for ease of movement, but it was the fabric itself, which became as iconic as the more visible aspects; that fabric was to become universally known as 'piqué'. SS16 since 1933 this is Lacoste Both Lacoste and Gillier decided on the piqué fabric because it ticked two very major necessities for them. First, it was a fabric that allowed for extra breathability and movement when playing and second, it remained looking smart, presentable and ultimately stylish throughout play and afterwards too. This product was to become the iconic L.12.12 Piqué Polo Shirt, still so relevant and favoured today and one of the most recognisable and important symbols for Lacoste. 13 cambrai – 7 3 1 CAW0 1 2 4 SS16 A c le an , m od e rn c las s ic , th e Cam brai re tain s its h e ritage s ilh oue tte c om bin e d w ith fin e , in tric ate piq ué e m bos s in g for a ligh t, s lim -lin e ae s th e tic . since 1933 this is Lacoste piqué · 15 piqué · A simple conf idence captures the essence of René Lacoste With an effortless shift from the tennis courts, the classic lightweight piqué fabric inspires the leather embossing on the Crosley shoe. c r o sle y – 731C A M0108 SS16 The Cr o s l ey i s a s ho wcas e o f co nt emp o r ar y des i g n us i ng p r emi um Chant aco l eat her emb o s s ed wi t h t he ver y s ame p i qué p at t er n as us ed b y René L aco s t e fo r t he i co ni c p o l o s hi r t . since 1933 this is Lacoste Sophisticated and elegant, the shoes have a natural Summer appeal.
