WEEK OF LYRICS AND BODIES
Bodies & Leeers emerges with the great concern of bringing dance with a new approach to the audience, and the intention of supporting the development of new
dancers and dance professionals in all the areas of scenic art, bringing them closer to dance with the points of view of the leading historic figures of dance in Mexico.
Thanks to the development and professionalization of dance in our region, it is not necessary to move to Mexico City anymore, because we can find local learning
alternatives. In that sense, Antares has been developing the creation of spaces, where dance and other creative disciplines coexist, looking for a way to make public
the possibilities of being inside this art form and being inclusive. Seeking to emphasize the creative relation between dance and other disciplines, through talks
developed with each one of our invited speakers, presentations, workshops and master classes; the creative act is nourished with all the tools that validate the
speech, responding to a necessity beyond the limits of a style or work form.

DANCED SOLILOQUIES AND DIALOGUES
This festival was created in 1991 to highlight the specific advantages of the forum "Los Talleres", its intimacy and well equipped nature. Its small format also allowed
for independent funding. The goal is to introduce participants (ideally novel) with a professional background and mature/well-structured stage proposals, capable of
holding the audience's attention for approximately 30 minutes, hence the introduction of the term "unipersonal performance" as opposed to “solo” (referring to one who
performs an academically brilliant piece). Instead, it is intended so that single interpreters, in addition to technical capabilities, show their drama skills, emphasizing
clear stage conceptualization and development.

INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL OF OAXACA (MIDO)
Parallel to any other great festival in Mexico, through its past 15 emissions MIDO has carved itself a permanent spot within the artistic and cultural niche of Oaxaca,
gathering the components, efforts and resources that give life to a worthy alternative for this region’s international projection. Part of a poetic and social movement
discourse, the event brings together different forms of corporal expressions that fill the gaps of cultural development and creates new audiences for dance. In 1999
no similar festival existed with cross-generic characteristics showing a range of approaches to create and appreciate dance, preserving the traditional dance of
Mexico and the peoples of the world, the brave and physical passion of contemporary dance and the delight of urban rhythms.

forum to express themselves. The festival seeks to offer first-level as well as unconventional stages such as public squares, rural areas, ecological parks and outdoor
forums in various localities (Milpa Alta, Xochimilco, Tlalpan, Tláhuac, among others). With a central theme around which its activities revolve, debuting works have
been another constant in the festival, presented each year in early spring. Trajectories are recognized through the Xochipilli award that pays tribute to the great
masters and creators. The festival takes place at different venues in Mexico City.

DIALOGUE PROCESSES
Process’ in dialog generates a collective space where you can try ideas, experiments, improvisation and exercises of unfinished pieces, using the process not just as
a tool to finish a piece, but as way in itself to consider the scenic practice. It is an independent platform to show the audience the work in its creative and
experimental stage. Also, this space acts as a meeting point for experimented and emerging artists whose work deals with the involvement of the body in various
ways. This open forum allows solo artists, groups or collectives to enrich their artistic practice by sharing their creative process with a receptive audience in a
constructive feedback environment. From this year onward, Process’ in dialog is also a practice and reflection laboratory that contributes to the notion of process as
the key element in the development of new ideas and strategies of scenic creation; it starts under the format of HOMESESSIONS (2010), and it has been embraced
by Eddie the Eagle Museum (Ámsterdam, 2011), Euroculture Krakow & Unfinished Co. (Cracovia, 2012), Centrum Ruchu with the support of Burdag-Space for
Performing Arts (Varsovia, 2013). Also collaborating with Coordinación Nacional de Danza-INBA, Centro Cultural de España en México, Secretaria de Cultura de

INTERNATIONAL
MEETING IN CONTEMPORARY DANCE IN URBAN SPACES CITY AND BODY
Certain events in the history of dance in our country have been instrumental in the development of Urbe y Cuerpo. Following the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City,
choreographers and dancers along with the cultural committee of the union of affected neighbors and communities organized six meetings of contemporary street
dance. The dance arising from this dialogue between artists and audiences stemmed from a concrete social reality of extraordinary significance to the city. In 2006 a
street festival of contemporary dance was held, continuing the dialogue with new audiences through 13 choreographic interventions in different urban areas of Mexico’s
capital city.

CONTEMPORARY CABARET DANCE AND IMPROVISATION FESTIVAL
Whenever we speak of contemporary dance we think in terms of a conventional show, performed on a traditional stage and even with a certain solemnity about it.
Also, performing venues are increasingly difficult to obtain due to higher demand by groups and companies, creating an image of dull, unintelligible works for small
audiences. This festival has become a refreshing, fun and clever way to introduce contemporary dance to a broader young audience that demands new and daring
proposals. With performances by Mexico’s most current contemporary dancers and musicians (Horacio Franco, Alejandro Escuer, Lydia Romero, José Rivera, Jose
Antonio Salinas, Alicia Sánchez, Rodrigo Barbosa, Angelo Moroni, Virginia Amarilla, and others) the festival serves the purpose of promoting dance and the creation
of new public venues for its performance. As to artists, it helps to view themselves and their work in different settings, creating new links through dance and music,
sound and movement.

CATAPULTA FIND SCENIC SURPRISES
In recent years, we have recognized as avant garde pieces, those works that combine different disciplines with the scenic act, such as props, projections, framework,
characterization, live sound effects, and many more. This tendency has resulted in the imitation or following of a whole new generation of creators. Nevertheless,
knowing how to use these elements correctly requires an investigation period, where a new language has to be developed, integrating these elements with the body, to
justify their use on stage.
Unfortunately, artists not always have the necessary tools to direct or suggest through the vision of other disciplines his work, and when they try to include these
disciplines, they forget that the main tool for any scenic artist is the body. As a part of the new generation of scenic artists, we consider that it is essential to create a
space to address these problems. We are seeking to motivate the young artists to return to the exploration of the body as a premise for creation, promoting original
ideas as worthy and necessary to renovate the Mexican stage art scene. Catapulta calls out all of these young artists of the stage, who have the same concerns as us,
to share their artistic proposals, and to generate a meeting point, and achieve surprise through simpleness, for an audience accustomed to complexity.

The first festival of contemporary dance in Quintana Roo was held in 2010, the response to which was positive, although the areas of opportunity for a first festival were
considered for improvement as to image, name, dates and logistics. This change lent maturity and confidence to Danxica at a regional level. While in Cancun and the
Riviera Maya no concept of contemporary dance truly exists, Danxica is making progress for the dissemination and promotion of this performing art. After 2 years of
work, Danxica has already sponsored a festival with the support of private funding, universities and local culture and dance lovers, growing in capacity and achieving to
