STEPINAC BASKETBALL
“WHERE TRADITION LIVES”
In Memoriam: Mike Kmetz
Many people have asked the significance of the #7 that adorns all of the Stepinac varsity jerseys. #7
is remembered on every Stepinac varsity jersey in honor of Mike Kmetz. Mike was a 2000 Stepinac
graduate, football player and former football and basketball assistant coach. In the two seasons
Mike spent as an assistant coach to the Stepinac basketball team everyone around him learned to
appreciate his special gifts of humor, kindness, selflessness and friendship. Mike’s courage and grace
dealing with a fatal brain tumor is something we will all remember. We hope the #7’s will serve as a
small reminder of a very special young man
