No. 26
7th March 2014
Spring Term 2014
Down in the jungle where nobody goes!
Jungle mania has hit
Nursery and the children
are loving learning about
jungle animals. They have
been busy creating jungle
dens in our role-play area
outside
and
making
aeroplanes with our large,
wooden blocks, to fly
there. This week we have
been reading the story of
Handa’s Surprise. It is a
wonderful story which the
children have used to
inspire paintings for our
display
board.
On
Wednesday we tasted
different tropical fruits
from the story and then
recorded our favourites.
The children are also
enjoying our lovely
Spring flowers.

Calling all grandparents!
As part of our whole school Book Week, we would love to invite
as many EYFS grandparents into school as possible to share
their favourite stories. This will take place on Wednesday 19th
March at 11.30am and will be held in Nursery. If there are any
grandparents who want to come in but can’t
make that date, please do let one of the
EYFS team know and we can try to arrange a
different time during the week. Many thanks
and we hope to see lots of you there.
Nursery and Reception
will be going on safari
to Grenfell Park on
Tuesday 1st April at
9.00am. Jungle toys
and all visitors welcome.

EYFS BULLETIN
Rumble in the Jungle
In stark contrast to studying animals living in the Arctic
and Antarctica, Reception have started learning about
warmer climates and how animals have adapted to their
environments. They have all been given an animal from the
story book ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and are busily
researching at home. After two weeks they will make a short presentation to the
class in the style of a television nature presenter. We are all looking forward to this
and the girls cannot wait to share their learning. We are being told facts that the
girls have found out on a daily basis. Our outdoor role play area has been given a
jungle makeover and again the girls are enjoying bringing in resources and books from
home to extend their learning. Thank you so much for all your support, the enthusiasm
of the girls is highly contagious. I did not believe that any topic would generate quite
the level of interest that penguins did but the girls are not disappointing us!
The girls have created beautiful art work for our stunning display ‘Rumble in the
Jungle’ which includes painting, printing, collage and ICT. They have been retelling
the story and making up their own stories with small world and cuddly toys.
