What prompted our cover girl’s contagious grin? She borrowed her first book on her own from the Iowa
City Public Library! That ability to select anything from nearly 233,000 books, movies, records, artwork, book
club kits, magazines, and newspapers was enhanced by your contributions to the Iowa City Public Library
Friends Foundation last year.

I and the other volunteers on the Board of Directors of the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation
thank you for joining us last year to support the busiest public library in the state. We are pleased to report
increases in undesignated contributions to the Annual Fund, a very successful start to our two-year Better
Building, Better Service fundraising campaign for the library’s remodeling project, and the addition of community book drives for The BookEnd used bookstore.
Last year marked the tenth anniversary of our ground-breaking Building the Collection fundraising event,
and the debut of two new special fundraising events: an Arts and Crafts Bazaar, and the Library Links Golf
Classic. Happily, both attracted new partners and excitement about our work for the library.
We are pleased to present the work that you accomplished through your generous support of the Iowa City
Public Library Friends Foundation last year. Thank you.

Building the Collection
May 5, 2013, marked the tenth and final Building the Collection event. This
year’s fun event raised over $37,000 for the Iowa City Public Library. Over
the ten years of the event, Building the Collection raised $328,671 through
silent and live auctions to benefit the varied collections at the Library.

Better Building, Better Service
In 2012, the Iowa City Public Library began a campaign to raise $250,000 for the Iowa City Public Library’s Better Building, Better
Service renovation project. This two-year project reorganized space to make the Library more accessible and easier to use,
improved phone and desk service, and will add a new Children’s Technology Center and Teen Space.
Thank you to the individuals and organizations who supported this project with pledges and contributions to the Better Building,
Better Service fund, by crafting for and shopping at the Arts & Crafts Bazaar, and by teeing up for the Library Links Golf Classic!
Arts and Crafts Bazaar
Local crafters knitted, sewed, crochetted, glued, beaded, and created for the Iowa City Public Library’s
first annual Arts and Crafts Bazaar, held on December 8, 2013. Proceeds from the more than 1,000
donated craft items raised nearly $4,500 for the Better Building, Better Service project at the Iowa City
Public Library.
Library Links Golf Classic
Fore! On June 14, 2013, the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation hosted another new event
to benefit the Better Building, Better Service project. Dozens of golfers teed up at Finkbine Golf
Course to support the Library -- and the Library is proud to be the only Golf Classic where a great
putt can win you a book! Thank you to the golfers and businesses who participated in this fun event!
