Are You a 5 Star Retailer?
The 5 Star Retailer Club was launched in FY08 to recognize
our independent retailers for meeting or exceeding
$1,000,000 in overall sales for the fiscal year. We just finished our 8th year and gained 13 new retailers!
1011 WEST MAIN STREET
LOUISVILLE KY 40202
This is how the club works: each fiscal year retailers with
$1,000,000 or more in sales are identified and the tracking
data base is updated. Retailers that are identified as “New”
receive a Silver Bowl, 2 Jackets for the owner(s) and 10T-shirts for their
staff. We also have a couple of options for flex board signage if allowed. Each additional year a retailer maintains their $1,000,000 status they receive a plate for their
bowl base to help keep track of all the years they have maintained this status.
Do you have what it takes to join this club?

Security Spotlight
“Already Paid” Tickets
L
Over the past several months, there has been a significant increase in “Already Paid”
ticket complaints filed with the KLC Security Department. Player complaints indicate
that when they attempt to redeem tickets, the clerks will often explain that they don’t
have enough cash on hand to pay the ticket, and will give the ticket back to the player.
When the player later attempts to redeem the ticket at a different retail location, the
terminal will show that the ticket was “Already Paid”. Obviously, the original retailer
clerk, who the ticket had initially been presented to either (A) scanned the ticket too
fast, or; (B) indicated “Yes” at the confirmation screen.
If the validation report indicates that the retailer was credited for the prize amount,
but didn’t pay the player and the complaint cannot be resolved with the retailer, the
KLC is obligated to pay the ticket since it is a bearer instrument. If this happens the
amount will then be charged back to the retailer who received the credit.
Please ensure that your clerks pay attention to the confirmation screens that appear
when validating a ticket with a value of $50 and up and only hit “Yes” when they have
the money to pay the ticket!
Training Reminder
Have you ever scanned a ticket and received the message “Game Not Found”? This
message occurs when a ticket has expired and can no longer be claimed.
Scratch-off tickets can be cashed for 180 days AFTER the date the game ends. Draw
Game tickets can be cashed for 180 AFTER the draw date.
If you receive this message when scanning a ticket, please return the ticket to the customer and explain the 180 day rule. Please make sure your clerks understand what
this message means and can communicate to your players accordingly.
Once a ticket expires, it can no longer be claimed.
Kentucky’s Keno is now available statewide!
Effective August 31, 2015 all retailers with a lottery terminal or vending machine can produce
a Keno ticket. Keno is a game predominately
played in social environments. As such, the lottery introduced the game at about 500 bars,
taverns, restaurants, and social establishments
in November 2013. Since then, the game has
caught on in popularity and is now offered anywhere lottery tickets are sold. Players
who can’t watch the drawing numbers on a monitor at a social establishment are
encouraged to check their numbers at kylottery.com or at ticket checkers at all lottery retailers. Keno is the 4th most popular Kentucky Lottery game behind Scratchoffs, Pick 3 and Powerball.
Welcome aboard to our newest Keno Retailers!

Face Card Update
In May we announced the change to dispenser card inserts with the first 10 –
25% of a game having those cards in the actual packs. Since that time more
retailers have signed up for allocations which increased the number of allocated
packs so that now we are exceeding the set quantity and some retailers aren’t
getting face cards at all!
We are currently working with our scratch-off vendor to make adjustments for
future games however, our working schedule is so far out we will continue to see
shortages for the balance of this calendar year. The regions will continue to get
extra cards so hopefully you won’t be without a face card for too long. Sorry for
any inconvenience this may cause.
