For Fall '13 we are launching a new redesigned corporate
packaging program. The new design reflects our industrial
heritage, craftsmanship and a more premium look and
feel. We use slight weathering, authentic details of quad
stitching, embossing, hex eyelets, lacing and the core colors
reflective of natural materials. The redesign includes shoe
boxes and labeling, tissue, apparel hangtags, apparel and
accessory labels, socks and gloves packaging, shopping
bags, gift boxes and packaging for licensed products.

This season, our men’s footwear collection is made
with the same Yankee ingenuity that went into our first
waterproof boot. Authentic, premium quality, well
crafted, and eco-conscious where possible.
On-trend silhouettes, like the Earthkeepers® Hookset
Handcrafted and the Earthkeepers® Tremont
collections, and stylish premium materials like Forty
Leather are combined with hidden performance
attributes, such as Timberland Waterproofing, to create
unique boots and shoes ready for versatile wearing
occasions. Surprising stylish with a rugged, authentic
core, our Fall 2013 line was inspired by our past, but
crafted for today.

Fall 2013 Color Trends
Outdoor Utility places us in New England, working
with authenticity and sustainability in the outdoors.
It is the combination of roughcut, natural ingredients
in constructions you can wear every day. Practical,
versatile style that is brought to life with clean lines
and simple functional details like reinforced seams
for strength and clean pockets for purpose. Mixed
materials and clean finishes are also seen in this
crafted trend, making them truly modern.
This season, color is being greatly influenced
by rich, heritage, classic styling evocative of
the Baroque period. Jewel tones like Ruby,
Sapphire and Emerald are key. For Fall 2013,
Timberland looks to its own heritage for color
inspiration... Wheat, Trapper Tan, Oro Russet,
Oxblood, Chocolate and Broccoli return in new
leather tannages. A range of pale cool neutrals is
introduced to round out and brighten a very darktrending palette.

How is the cool vintage color and texture in the
outsole achieved?
Via a two-step process. The outsole is colored with a
base color, (i.e. orange), then a black stain is applied.
Two wire brushes are then used to add texture and
bring out the outsole color beneath the black stain for a
vintage look.

What is OrthoLite®?
OrthoLite is the brand name for an insole made
of polyurethane and rubber that keeps the foot dry,
odor-free and minimizes bacteria. It delivers
long-lasting cushioned comfort and enhanced air
flow for a cool foot. It is odor and fungus inhibiting
and wicks away moisture. What is vulcanized construction?
A very flexible construction that merges a rubber
outsole with a die-cut foam midsole upon which the
upper is attached. A rubber tape, called "foxing tape,"
is wrapped around the shoe and adhered with a heat
treatment to ensure all components are properly
affixed to each other.

Our original Stormbuck collection features premium
waterproof full-grain leather and suede uppers. For

The newer direct-attach method fuses the sole to the

What is the inspiration for this collection?
The original idea behind the Earthkeepers® Heritage
Rugged LTD collection was to take back pairs of the
iconic 10061 boot at the end of their wearing life from
consumers, and refurbish and/or re-use the materials
to make new boots in an effort to get us one step closer
to the pinnacle of sustainable footwear manufacturing—

What are the characteristics of an
approach-style shoe?
Originally, approach shoes were created as a hybrid
between a hiking boot and a rock climbing shoe.
Climbers found leather hiking boots to be too heavy
and unnecessary for the short hikes to the local rock
walls and also not flexible or grippy enough for short
scrambles. As a result, these hybrids were created to
bridge the gap. An approach-style shoe offers lace-totoe construction, a mix of flexibility and support and a
reinforced toe box for added grip.
What makes an EcoSmart® footbed so comfortable?
The environmental material footbed is made from
100% recycled PET, (recycled plastic bottles), and is
designed to be soft and breathable, while also creating
a smaller carbon footprint than traditional non-recycled
liners. Timberland uses a proprietary fiber made from
post-consumer soda bottles. The knit construction is
designed to be soft and plush against the skin.

beginning and remains at our core today.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Silicone-impregnated leather, sealed seams, Gore-Tex®
waterproof membrane, and direct-attach sole construction
are just a few of the tools we use to keep feet dry. But in
order to be entirely sure that our goals are met, our products
are put through a performance testing program that includes
some of the highest industry standards.
Static Testing – Footwear hoping to earn the Timberland
Waterproof mark must first be submerged1 in water for four hours.
A dry interior at the end of the test is only a passing grade.
Flex Testing – Here, the interior of the boot must remain dry after
15,000 flexes while submerged in water2. This test is the equivalent of
hiking 17 very wet, continuous miles and finishing with dry feet.
What is the consumer benefit?
Consumers know they can count on Timberland to build
footwear that will keep them dry and comfortable, season
after season.

we take inspiration from our past, delivering
forty special footwear styles in Timberland’s
exclusive Forty Leather collection in
celebration of forty years of our iconic
Yellow Boot.
What is the technology/material?
Together with one of our most trusted Silver-rated
tanneries, we’ve custom engineered Forty Leather with a
focus on Old World aesthetics. It’s rugged and durable but
also supple, with a well-broken-in look and feel. Look for it
in some of the colors of our most iconic styles of the past,
such as Trapper Tan, Sundance, Oro Russet and Wheat.
The consumer with a discerning eye for quality will
recognize the beauty of our Forty Leather right away.
Crafted to our strict specifications, it’s as comfortable
on the foot as it is easy on the eye. Break-in time is
non-existent, thanks to natural oils and wax treatments
applied to each pair we produce.
RECYCLED PET
Putting plastic into linings,
not landfills.
Timberland always strives to put our
environmental values into action. By
incorporating recycled PET into our products,
we give a recyclable material new life, while
reducing our environmental impact.
PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a material used in
plastic goods like water bottles. As a non-biodegradable
substance, when thrown away, it will sit in a landfill for
thousands of years. However, when it is broken down,
compressed into bales and recycled, it can be made into
new products.
Recycling PET has a major impact on the environment—it
reduces landfill, lessens energy consumption and cuts
harmful emissions. When purchasing a product made from
recycled PET, Timberland consumers can feel like they are
making a difference.

Rugged, breathable and made from
100% recycled PET.
ReCanvas™ fabric looks and feels just like
traditional cotton canvas and carries with it
all of the same attributes for which traditional
canvas is known. Lightweight, breathable,
sturdy—it’s an excellent choice for versatile
footwear styles.
Made entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles
(PET), ReCanvas™ fabric is used throughout our footwear
collection. Look for it as a footwear lining material and in
our uppers in light, medium and heavy weights.
Consumers will enjoy the look, feel, breathability and
durability of traditional canvas and can also feel good
knowing that they’ve chosen a shoe that incorporates a
material made with the environment in mind.

Made with 42% recycled rubber,
it leaves a lighter footprint.
We began using Green Rubber™ compound in
2008, and since that time we’ve produced more
than 10 million pairs of shoes with soles made
from partially recycled rubber. In five years,
that’s more than 3.3 million pounds of rubber
that would have gone to a landfill had it not been
turned into our outsoles.
The Green Rubber™ compound comes to life through a
series of steps that reverse the vulcanization process. This
allows waste rubber left over from the manufacturing of
latex products, like rubber gloves, to be reused and made
into new products, like Timberland footwear.
Green Rubber™ outsoles perfectly embody our
commitment to finding technologies and materials that
reduce our company’s impact on the planet. Thanks to our
partnership with Green Rubber™, Timberland consumers

Over time, we’ve bolstered several of our
material blends with the durability that only the
CORDURA® family of products can deliver. This
season, we’ve integrated CORDURA® EcoMade
Fiber into our footwear program.
Made from 100% recycled material and constructed using high
tenacity fiber technologies, CORDURA® EcoMade Fibers have
an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Conversely, they also
possess a soft, next-to-skin feel that Timberland consumers will
appreciate.
New for Fall ’13, we’ve incorporated CORDURA® EcoMade Fiber
into the design of some of our most stylish men’s and women’s

Made from 70% organic cotton and 30%
performance polyester, our Super Piqué is
more than just another pretty face. It’s a
moisture-wicking, fast-drying classic.
Organic cotton is blended with performance polyester yarn
to create a moisture-wicking and fast-drying yarn. It also
delivers as much as 3–4 times more UV protection than
standard cotton alone. It will change the way many feel about
a polo shirt without changing the way a polo shirt feels.
With Super Piqué, we’ve created a performance collection

Constructed using high-tenacity fiber technologies,
CORDURA® fibers have an exceptional strength-to-weight
ratio, while possessing a next-to-skin softness that provides
necessary comfort. Used alone or blended with other
materials, CORDURA® fiber is the go-to material when and
where durability is needed most.
We’ve incorporated CORDURA® fibers into a variety of
material blends that are found throughout our Fall ’13
collections. Consumers can count on Timberland® jeans,
jackets, shirts and accessories lasting longer while maintaining

Performance nylon made from recycled
fishing nets and ropes.
Known as ghost nets, a massive number of
fishing nets and ropes have been left or lost in
our oceans where they can become a hazard
to marine wildlife, and even divers. ReNet™
fabric is a special material, utilizing the nylon
left behind to create a repurposed textile
that performs as well as virgin nylon.
A newly developed de-polymerization process allows nylon
products to be recycled, returning them to their original
chemistry and ready for reuse. Through this process, ghost
nets, waste ropes and other discarded nylon goods are
converted into ReNet™ fabric.
Consumers want sustainability but not at the expense of
performance. Lightweight, abrasion resistant and breathable,
ReNet™ fabric performs as well as virgin nylon.

DOWN
MOTHER NATURE’S WARMEST INSULATION.
Lightweight, durable and extremely warm,
down is the perfect natural insulation for
our warmest winter apparel.
Down is a layer of fine feathers located under the tougher
exterior feathers in birds. Down’s natural structure creates
a “loft” that traps air and retains warmth. The measure of
this loft or “fluffiness” is called the down fill power. Higher
down fill power numbers indicate a higher quality of down
with more air-trapping ability and consequent warmth. This
quality gives down a higher warmth-to-weight ratio than
synthetic insulation. Timberland uses only 100% goose or
duck down.
Timberland consumers can engage in their favorite outdoor
