Fall 2013
best then. Better now.
IT STARTED
with a yellow boot called Timberland, made for
typical New England weather using typical Yankee
ingenuity. It performed so well we changed the
name of our company and soon became a leading
outdoor footwear brand.
Today we strive for more. New styles. New
innovation. New collections. Including the
Earthkeepers® collection—an eco-conscious
line of footwear—combining style, performance
and technology.
Today’s Timberland is for the generation who values
authenticity, sustainability, and the return of quality
craftsmanship. Today’s Timberland is inspired by the
past, crafted for today.
BEST THEN. BETTER NOW.

For Fall '13 we are launching a new redesigned corporate
packaging program. The new design reflects our industrial
heritage, craftsmanship and a more premium look and
feel. We use slight weathering, authentic details of quad
stitching, embossing, hex eyelets, lacing and the core colors
reflective of natural materials. The redesign includes shoe
boxes and labeling, tissue, apparel hangtags, apparel and
accessory labels, socks and gloves packaging, shopping
bags, gift boxes and packaging for licensed products.

Fall 2013 Men’s footwear collection
This season, our men’s footwear collection is made
with the same Yankee ingenuity that went into our first
waterproof boot. Authentic, premium quality, well
crafted, and eco-conscious where possible.
On-trend silhouettes, like the Earthkeepers® Hookset
Handcrafted and the Earthkeepers® Tremont
collections, and stylish premium materials like Forty
Leather are combined with hidden performance
attributes, such as Timberland Waterproofing, to create
unique boots and shoes ready for versatile wearing
occasions. Surprising stylish with a rugged, authentic
core, our Fall 2013 line was inspired by our past, but
crafted for today.
BEST THEN. BETTER NOW.
Fall 2013 Trends
Outdoor Utility
Fall 2013 Color Trends
Outdoor Utility places us in New England, working
with authenticity and sustainability in the outdoors.
It is the combination of roughcut, natural ingredients
in constructions you can wear every day. Practical,
versatile style that is brought to life with clean lines
and simple functional details like reinforced seams
for strength and clean pockets for purpose. Mixed
materials and clean finishes are also seen in this
crafted trend, making them truly modern.
This season, color is being greatly influenced
by rich, heritage, classic styling evocative of
the Baroque period. Jewel tones like Ruby,
Sapphire and Emerald are key. For Fall 2013,
Timberland looks to its own heritage for color
inspiration... Wheat, Trapper Tan, Oro Russet,
Oxblood, Chocolate and Broccoli return in new
leather tannages. A range of pale cool neutrals is
introduced to round out and brighten a very darktrending palette.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millenial man who lives a spontaneous
outdoor lifestyle and needs to be ready for any lastminute plans, looking great no matter what. He craves
simplicity and values authentic brands. He prefers to
buy eco-conscious products, as long as they look great
and keep him comfortable.
What makes this collection so special from an
environmental perspective?
Selecting recycled and renewable materials and using
a limited number of ingredients goes a long way toward
lowering the carbon footprint of the footwear.
Is the Hookset Handcrafted as durable as other
Timberland® products?
As with any product that earns the Timberland name,
this collection is made with the same high standard of
care, quality and craftsmanship.
Why does this shoe look so deconstructed?
It is the culmination of our best efforts to keep the
design simple by using a reduced number of materials
put together with a time-tested yet simple string-lasted
construction—and it’s on-trend.
What are the four materials expertly combined?
1. 100% organic cotton: used in the laces, upper and
footbed cover.
2.Genuine leather: premium full-grain and nubuck
leather uppers and accent pieces sourced from a
Leather Working Group Silver-rated tannery
3.Aluminum eyelets: on oxford and chukka models are
durable and recyclable
4.100% natural rubber: the natural latex sole and
footbed comes from a renewable resource.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
The Earthkeepers® Tremont consumer is the younger
Millennial male who values contemporary styling and
seeks design attributes that are progressive and on the
cutting edge of fashion. He values authentic brands and
prefers to buy eco-conscious products.
How is the cool vintage color and texture in the
outsole achieved?
Via a two-step process. The outsole is colored with a
base color, (i.e. orange), then a black stain is applied.
Two wire brushes are then used to add texture and
bring out the outsole color beneath the black stain for a
vintage look.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millenial man who lives a spontaneous outdoor
lifestyle and needs to be ready for any last-minute
plans, looking great no matter what. He is looking for
versatility in his footwear, and he values an authentic
brand.
What is OrthoLite®?
OrthoLite is the brand name for an insole made
of polyurethane and rubber that keeps the foot dry,
odor-free and minimizes bacteria. It delivers
long-lasting cushioned comfort and enhanced air
flow for a cool foot. It is odor and fungus inhibiting
and wicks away moisture. What is vulcanized construction?
A very flexible construction that merges a rubber
outsole with a die-cut foam midsole upon which the
upper is attached. A rubber tape, called "foxing tape,"
is wrapped around the shoe and adhered with a heat
treatment to ensure all components are properly
affixed to each other.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
The Millennial consumer who likes to sport a classic
style with innovations like lightweight materials and
trend-right cues like color pops and beautiful leathers.
Why is this collection called the Stormbuck Lite?
Our original Stormbuck collection features premium
waterproof full-grain leather and suede uppers. For
Spring 2013, we introduced the lightweight version in
seasonal suedes and leathers, and now it’s back by
popular demand for Fall 2013. It’s the combination of
lightweight uppers and the compression-molded EVA
outsole that make the Stormbuck Lite feather light.
What is Anti-Fatigue Technology?
Originally designed by Timberland® PRO for people
who are on their feet all day, Anti-Fatigue is a footbed
platform featuring a geometric design of inverted cones
that collapse and return energy for increased shock
absorption and reduced footfall pressure.
What is compression-molded EVA?
An EVA outsole provides the ultimate in lightweight
comfort without compromising performance.
What are the key features of this
collection?

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millenial man who lives a spontaneous outdoor
lifestyle and needs to be ready for any last-minute
plans, looking great no matter what. He values authentic
brands and prefers to buy eco-conscious products.
Why is the Earthkeepers® Rugged LT considered
seasonal transition footwear?
It blends the durability of a rugged, waterproof boot with
beautiful, lightweight construction. It’s this dichotomy of
traits that makes the collection ready for almost anything
an autumn in New England throws at you.
What is direct-attach waterproof bootie construction?
The newer direct-attach method fuses the sole to the
fibers of the upper to produce a tough, watertight
bond. Direct attachment is designed to subtract weight
and add flexibility, without compromising durability—but
the boots generally can’t be resoled.
What are the key features of this
collection?

What is PET Cambrelle® fabric?
The bio-component fibers in Cambrelle® fabric mean
that the shoe’s lining constantly adapts to the motion of
the foot and the footwear, while providing the highest
level of abrasion resistance. This produces countless
microscopic air pockets that allow air to circulate and
add to the cushioning effect to create a constant,
comfortable micro-climate around the foot.

converts scrap rubber to a recycled compound that can
be reused in rubber products.
What does leather from a Silver-rated tannery mean?
When you see the Leather Working Group (LWG)
Silver-rated tannery icon associated with a Timberland®
product, that means one or more major components
uses at least 50% leather tanned in a facility rated
Silver or higher by a third-party environmental audit.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millenial man who lives a spontaneous lifestyle
and needs to be ready for any last-minute plans, looking
great no matter what. He appreciates fine, premium
crafted footwear that blends a storied heritage aesthetic
with a modern day twist. He values authentic brands
and prefers to buy eco-conscious products, as long as
they look good and keep him comfortable all day.
What is the inspiration for this collection?
The original idea behind the Earthkeepers® Heritage
Rugged LTD collection was to take back pairs of the
iconic 10061 boot at the end of their wearing life from
consumers, and refurbish and/or re-use the materials
to make new boots in an effort to get us one step closer
to the pinnacle of sustainable footwear manufacturing—
cradle to cradle. However, the original concept
proved to be logistically challenged, but the look and
aesthetic of the refinished boots was so striking that it
gained a following of its own. So while we continue to
unlock the challenge of cradle-to-cradle footwear, we
decided to also introduce the new Heritage Rugged
LTD collection using premium leathers from an LWG
Silver-rated tannery that allowed us to achieve the very
classic finish we realized in our refurbishing efforts.
The Heritage Rugged LTD collection also features
Earthkeepers® materials, including Green Rubber™
outsoles and recycled PET linings.

FAQs
For the Millennial man who wants to look great and
invest in timeless pieces that will never go out of style.

both stylish and durable, but they must be functional
and versatile enough to get him through his everchanging day. He purchases high-quality pieces and
prefers eco-conscious products, as long as they look
good and will stand up to the test of time.
What is a Gold-rated tannery?
Of all the things that make up the environmental
footprint of a company, the biggest contributors are the
materials used. That’s why we work hard to establish
relationships with partners who are dedicated not
only to producing premium leathers, but also hold
themselves accountable to strict environmental
standards. When you see the Leather Working Group
(LWG) Gold-rated tannery icon associated with a
Timberland product, it means one or more major
components use at least 50% of their leather
tanned in a facility rated Gold by a third-party
environmental audit.

add a waxy look to the jacket that also adds style and
improved water resistance.

Fall 2013 Trends
Outdoor Utility
Fall 2013 Color Trends
Outdoor Utility places us in New England, working
with authenticity and sustainability in the outdoors.
It is the combination of roughcut, natural ingredients
in constructions you can wear every day. Practical,
versatile style that is brought to life with clean
feminine lines and simple functional details like
reinforced seams for strength and clean pockets
for purpose. Mixed materials and clean finishes are
also seen in this crafted trend, making them truly
modern.
This season, color is being greatly influenced
by rich, heritage, classic styling evocative of
the Baroque period. Jewel tones like Ruby,
Sapphire and Emerald are key. For Fall 2013,
Timberland looks to its own heritage for color
inspiration... Wheat, Trapper Tan, Oro Russet,
Oxblood, Chocolate and Broccoli return in new
leather tannages. A range of pale cool neutrals is
introduced to round out and brighten a very darktrending palette.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the stylish Millennial woman who looks for qualitycrafted products that will stand up to the test of time.
The Trenton’s beautiful leathers and authentic design
are combined with eco-conscious elements to create a
truly unique, beautiful fall boot.
Why is the footbed covered in leather?
In a dress boot, a leather-covered footbed is smoother
against the foot than other types of footbed materials,
providing greater comfort and a more premium
look and feel.
What is Timberland Waterproof technology?
To be considered Timberland Waterproof, every
product must go through our proprietary, rigorous
Static and Flex testing. Truly “walking a mile in our
shoes,” our products are tested to the equivalent
of covering 17 very wet, continuous miles and finishing
with dry feet. All this ensures that your feet stay dry
in your daily life.
What is the LWG (Leather Working Group)?
The Leather Working Group was formed to promote
sustainable and appropriate environmental stewardship
practices within the leather industry. The result was
an LWG-created protocol that accurately assesses the
compliance and environmental stewardship practices
of leather manufacturers. The rating system creates
guidelines and brings visibility to best practices for
continual improvement.
Where is Trenton, and what happened to Rudston?
With all the great updates to our fan favorite, the
Rudston, we wanted to give it a fresh name to match
the fresh look. Trenton is a small coastal town in
Eastern Maine. It is the last mainland town you pass
through before going over to Bar Harbor to see the
sunrise on Cadillac Mountain.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the stylish Millennial woman who looks for
quality-crafted products that will keep up with her
busy lifestyle. The Mosley’s beautiful leathers and
heritage details are combined with a rugged outsole
and waterproof technology to keep her looking and
feeling great all day.
What is Anti-Fatigue Technology?
Designed for women who are on their feet all day,
Timberland’s exclusive Anti-Fatigue Technology
features a geometric design of inverted cones that
collapse and return energy. The footbed is made of 14%
natural oil polyols (NOPs) derived from non-food source
plants, which makes it a renewable and environmentally
preferred source. Anti-Fatigue absorbs shock and
reduces footfall pressure, resulting in reduced fatigue.
Translation? Anti-Fatigue keeps you comfortable.
Why does this collection come with two lace options?
The color pop lace capitalizes on a growing trend
that allows consumers to add customized details
to their boots. A color pop lace is a simple touch
that oozes style and cool. The Millennial woman who
will be drawn to the Mosley will appreciate the extra
detail that Timberland placed in the color pop lace.
And, of course, some consumers will prefer the subtler
tone-on-tone.
How does this collection stack up against Børn,
Camper or Red Wing?
Many footwear companies offer a smart casual, street
boot, but none combine sleek style, attention to detail,
comfort technology and eco-conscious materials
to create an instant “new classic.” Others try hard,
Timberland delivers.

her style just because it is cold and wet outside. She
needs footwear that will keep her warm, comfortable,
protected and looking good—all at the same time.
The Mount Hope’s authentic styling and performance
technologies will keep her happy all season.
Why was the Mount Holly updated to the Mount
Hope?
The venerable Mount Holly has been a mainstay
for years in the Timberland Women’s collection. For
Fall 2013, we wanted to take another look at this fan
favorite, slimming it down, adding additional features
to keep women warm and utilizing seasonal, on-trend
materials to create a dynamic package that flat-out
performs.

while also helping to keep feet warm and comfortable.

Gripstick™ rubber is a specially blended rubber

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millennial woman who doesn’t believe she
has to sacrifice her style while enjoying the outdoors.
The Carrigan Notch’s sleek design and feminine color
palette keep her looking good, while providing all of the
traction and protection she needs for the trail.
What is the B.S.F.P.™ motion efficiency system?
B.S.F.P.™ stands for: Brake Support Flex Propel. This
is a specific outsole system designed to address four
concerns while hiking:
• Braking lugs in the heel for traction control
• Support through the midfoot for stability
• Flex grooves in the forefoot for maximum efficiency
• Propel lugs in the toe to create more spring
in your step
The result is a system that creates optimal motion
efficiency on any surface.
What are the characteristics of an
approach-style shoe?
Originally, approach shoes were created as a hybrid
between a hiking boot and a rock climbing shoe.
Climbers found leather hiking boots to be too heavy
and unnecessary for the short hikes to the local rock
walls and also not flexible or grippy enough for short
scrambles. As a result, these hybrids were created to
bridge the gap. An approach-style shoe offers lace-totoe construction, a mix of flexibility and support and a
reinforced toe box for added grip.
What makes an EcoSmart® footbed so comfortable?
The environmental material footbed is made from
100% recycled PET, (recycled plastic bottles), and is
designed to be soft and breathable, while also creating
a smaller carbon footprint than traditional non-recycled
liners. Timberland uses a proprietary fiber made from
post-consumer soda bottles. The knit construction is
designed to be soft and plush against the skin.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millennial woman who values classic timeless
pieces that will never go out of style. She looks for
authentic and stylish pieces that are both durable and
comfortable enough to keep up with her active life. The
Teddy Fleece’s heritage details and waterproof design
will keep her looking and feeling great all day.
Why is the upper of the boot a mix of full-grain
leather and suede?
Full-grain leather provides rugged durability and the
ability to weather the elements, while also providing
a visual tie to our iconic Yellow Boot. A suede upper
gently hugs the natural contours of a woman’s calf,
while also being supple enough to be easily folded
down for a more casual look.
What is Teddy Fleece?
This warm, lightweight and cozy lining is an
eco-conscious fleece, made of 30% recycled PET,
the same stuff that plastic bottles are made of.
What is uniquely stylish about this product?
The Timberland Authentics Teddy Fleece boot gives
the Millennial woman an iconic product with a feminine
twist, designed for the unpredictability of winter.
Dress up or dress down options give versatility to
take on the unexpected—from slushy, wet city streets
to slippery rocks on a gentle local hike to the local
coffee shop or pub.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the stylish Millennial woman who is always on
the go. She looks for authentic products that can
keep up with her pace but also will keep her looking
great. The Birchmont’s comfort technologies combined
with premium-crafted, eco-conscious materials make
it an easy choice.
What is Anti-Fatigue Technology?
Exclusive Anti-Fatigue Technology was patterned after
the floor mats used to prevent fatigue in industrial
environments where workers spend most of their day
standing or walking. It’s a footbed made up of
a polyurethane compound that utilizes 14% natural
oil polyols (NOPs)—derived from non-food source
plants—which is good for the environment because
NOPs are a renewable resource and environmentally
preferred alternative to fossil fuels. It also uses a
system of molded, inverted cones in the footbed
that collapse and return energy in key pressure zones.
The result? It enhances shock absorption and returns
more energy to reduce fatigue.
What is the LWG (Leather Working Group)?
The Leather Working Group was formed to promote
sustainable and appropriate environmental stewardship
practices within the leather industry. The result was
an LWG-created protocol that accurately assesses the
compliance and environmental stewardship practices
of leather manufacturers. The rating system creates
guidelines and brings visibility to best practices for
continual improvement.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millennial woman who has an active
lifestyle. Her clothing and footwear have to keep
her comfortable and on her feet while delivering on
her style credentials. The Stratham Height’s comfort
technologies and sleek look with eco-conscious
materials make it an easy choice.
How is this style different from the original Stratham
Heights collection?
The Stratham Heights has been made sleeker and more
streamlined for Fall 2013, and it is now completely
waterproof. It still retains the comfort technologies that
the original was known for.
What is Barefoot leather?
Barefoot leather is a comfortable, soft, lightweight and
premium leather that is perfect for changing seasons.
Because of the unique tanning process used when
creating this leather, it has an airy quality that allows the
foot to breathe.

Exclusive Anti-Fatigue Technology was patterned

What is Suspension Heel technology?
Our revolutionary Suspension Heel technology
is designed to soften each step, absorb shock and
reduce impact using patent-pending heel technology.
Its curved shape encourages a natural stride and
also smooths out overall heel-to-toe transition.
This technology is unique within the marketplace
and is the first of its kind industry wide, creating
a whole new approach to wearing heels.

products that have a classic, versatile style that are
lightweight enough to toss in her bag. She values
authentic brands and prefers to buy eco-conscious
products, as long as they look good and keep her

Does organic cotton feel different than regular cotton?
No, not at all. In fact, some people claim it feels softer
against their skin. It has a comparable feel to other highquality cottons, while being gentler on the environment.
Why make a 3/4-sleeve hoodie?
When hitting the road for that last-minute summer
getaway, female consumers don’t want to spend hours
packing their bags. They need a few versatile pieces
that they can wear from the car to the park to dinner
with friends. This hoodie’s 3/4-sleeve design, lightweight
fabric and minimal look make it a truly “goes-withanything” style she can throw in her bag that is perfect
for all her travel needs.

How does Timberland ensure products are
waterproof?
In order to meet rigorous Timberland Waterproof
specifications, our products are put through a
performance-testing program that measures the
amount of water, in millimeters (mm), that can be
pushed through the material before water seeps
through. Seams on the garment are then taped sealed
to ensure that water cannot get through the seams. You
will notice a range of waterproof levels on our garments
from 3,000mm to 20,000mm. The higher the number,
the more waterproof the garment.

Who is this product designed for?
FAQs
For the Millennial woman who wants to look great
and invest in timeless pieces that will never go out of
style. She is willing to pay more for authentic products
that are both stylish and durable, but they must be
functional enough to get her through her ever-changing
day. She purchases high-quality pieces and prefers ecoconscious products, as long as they look good.
What is the difference between lamb leather and
cow leather?
Lamb leather is a high quality, premium material perfect
for classic outerwear pieces. Because it’s thinner, lamb
leather is softer and lighter than cow leather. Lamb
leather’s unique qualities add a feminine flair to the
traditional leather jacket silhouette.
Are there any special ways the jacket should be
cleaned or cared for?
We recommend a professional cleaning by leather
and suede expert to ensure this classic piece is ready
season after season. Washing, bleaching, drying, or
ironing could harm this jacket’s premium leather.

versatility What does Down Fill Power mean?
Fill Power is a measure of the loft or “fluffiness” of a
down product. The higher the fill power, the more
insulating air pockets the down has and the better
insulating ability. Fill Power is expressed as cubic
inches per ounce (in3/oz)—a lofting power of 400–450
is considered medium quality, 500–550 is considered
good, 550–750 is considered very good, and 750+ is
considered excellent. All other things equal, the higher

Timberland
waterproof
A four-decade commitment
to keeping feet dry.
Timberland Waterproof provides the
protection our consumers need to brave the
worst elements with confidence. It’s been
our mission to keep people dry since the very
beginning and remains at our core today.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Silicone-impregnated leather, sealed seams, Gore-Tex®
waterproof membrane, and direct-attach sole construction
are just a few of the tools we use to keep feet dry. But in
order to be entirely sure that our goals are met, our products
are put through a performance testing program that includes
some of the highest industry standards.
Static Testing – Footwear hoping to earn the Timberland
Waterproof mark must first be submerged1 in water for four hours.
A dry interior at the end of the test is only a passing grade.
Flex Testing – Here, the interior of the boot must remain dry after
15,000 flexes while submerged in water2. This test is the equivalent of
hiking 17 very wet, continuous miles and finishing with dry feet.
What is the consumer benefit?
Consumers know they can count on Timberland to build
footwear that will keep them dry and comfortable, season
after season.
With water level at 60% of the height of the shoe, to a maximum of 120mm.
1
Based on 15,000 flexes on a single boot and an average stride length of 3 feet (since testing
is completed on a single shoe, the actual distance between flexes is 6 feet).

Forty
Leather
Rich, Premium, Rugged.
Leather inspired by our past.
Timberland has built its reputation on
the careful selection of only the finest
waterproof and non-waterproof leathers
for four decades. It’s in our DNA. In Fall ’13,
we take inspiration from our past, delivering
forty special footwear styles in Timberland’s
exclusive Forty Leather collection in
celebration of forty years of our iconic
Yellow Boot.
What is the technology/material?
Together with one of our most trusted Silver-rated
tanneries, we’ve custom engineered Forty Leather with a
focus on Old World aesthetics. It’s rugged and durable but
also supple, with a well-broken-in look and feel. Look for it
in some of the colors of our most iconic styles of the past,
such as Trapper Tan, Sundance, Oro Russet and Wheat.
What is the consumer benefit?
The consumer with a discerning eye for quality will
recognize the beauty of our Forty Leather right away.
Crafted to our strict specifications, it’s as comfortable
on the foot as it is easy on the eye. Break-in time is
non-existent, thanks to natural oils and wax treatments
applied to each pair we produce.
RECYCLED PET
Putting plastic into linings,
not landfills.
Timberland always strives to put our
environmental values into action. By
incorporating recycled PET into our products,
we give a recyclable material new life, while
reducing our environmental impact.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a material used in
plastic goods like water bottles. As a non-biodegradable
substance, when thrown away, it will sit in a landfill for
thousands of years. However, when it is broken down,
compressed into bales and recycled, it can be made into
new products.
What is the consumer benefit?
Recycling PET has a major impact on the environment—it
reduces landfill, lessens energy consumption and cuts
harmful emissions. When purchasing a product made from
recycled PET, Timberland consumers can feel like they are
making a difference.
Recanvas™
Rugged, breathable and made from
100% recycled PET.
ReCanvas™ fabric looks and feels just like
traditional cotton canvas and carries with it
all of the same attributes for which traditional
canvas is known. Lightweight, breathable,
sturdy—it’s an excellent choice for versatile
footwear styles.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Made entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles
(PET), ReCanvas™ fabric is used throughout our footwear
collection. Look for it as a footwear lining material and in
our uppers in light, medium and heavy weights.
What is the consumer benefit?
Consumers will enjoy the look, feel, breathability and
durability of traditional canvas and can also feel good
knowing that they’ve chosen a shoe that incorporates a
material made with the environment in mind.
green ™
rubber
Made with 42% recycled rubber,
it leaves a lighter footprint.
We began using Green Rubber™ compound in
2008, and since that time we’ve produced more
than 10 million pairs of shoes with soles made
from partially recycled rubber. In five years,
that’s more than 3.3 million pounds of rubber
that would have gone to a landfill had it not been
turned into our outsoles.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
The Green Rubber™ compound comes to life through a
series of steps that reverse the vulcanization process. This
allows waste rubber left over from the manufacturing of
latex products, like rubber gloves, to be reused and made
into new products, like Timberland footwear.
What is the consumer benefit?
Green Rubber™ outsoles perfectly embody our
commitment to finding technologies and materials that
reduce our company’s impact on the planet. Thanks to our
partnership with Green Rubber™, Timberland consumers
can tread with confidence, knowing that they’ve chosen
footwear made with the environment in mind.
cordura®
ecomade fiber

Over time, we’ve bolstered several of our
material blends with the durability that only the

Fiber into our footwear program.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Made from 100% recycled material and constructed using high
tenacity fiber technologies, CORDURA® EcoMade Fibers have
an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Conversely, they also
possess a soft, next-to-skin feel that Timberland consumers will
appreciate.
What is the consumer benefit?
New for Fall ’13, we’ve incorporated CORDURA® EcoMade Fiber
into the design of some of our most stylish men’s and women’s
footwear families. Consumers will love the rugged aesthetic that
CORDURA® EcoMade Fiber delivers and will also appreciate that
it’s made from 100% recycled polyester.
anti-fatigue
technology
Innovative footbed with inverted Cone System
that reduces fatigue and absorbs shock.
First introduced in our Timberland PRO ® work
boots, our exclusive Anti-Fatigue Technology was
originally designed for those who spend their
entire work day on their feet.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Anti-Fatigue Technology comes to life in a unique, molded
polyurethane footbed that features geometrically designed
inverted cones. This Inverted Cone System collapses and rebounds,
absorbing shock and returning energy in every step.
What is the consumer benefit?
Unmatched in its unique design and resulting benefits, Anti-Fatigue
Technology provides a stable platform of support. Delivering all-day
comfort, Anti-Fatigue Technology can now be found in a multitude
of styles throughout the Timberland® footwear collection.

SUSPENSION HEEL
TECHNOLOGY
ALL-DAY COMFORT. ALWAYS IN STYLE.

the ultimate in shock absorption and comfort in
high heels.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
The first of its kind industry-wide, our revolutionary patent-pending
suspension heel is designed to soften each step, absorb shock and
reduce impact. Its curved shape encourages a natural stride and also
smoothes out overall heel-to-toe transition.
What is the consumer benefit?
Creating a whole new approach to wearing heels, Suspension Heel
Technology allows women to wear heels and be comfortable at the
same time.

traditional techniques in a tannery rated Gold for industryleading water, waste and energy management. The result is
an ultra-soft leather that is as comfortable as going barefoot,
while being easier on the environment and providing the
classic premium look Timberland is known for.
What is the consumer benefit?
Timberland consumers can achieve the comfort level of going
barefoot, while still wearing a material that is classic, clean
and premium.

mission to keep people dry since the very
beginning and remains at our core today.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
In order to meet rigorous Timberland Waterproof
specifications, our products are put through a
performance-testing program that measures the amount
of water, in millimeters (mm), that can be pushed through
the material before water seeps through. You will notice a
range of waterproof levels on our garments from 3,000mm
to 20,000mm.
What is the consumer benefit?

strength and durability, CORDURA® fibers
are four times more abrasion resistant than
traditional cotton, while still providing the
comfort that consumers need.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Constructed using high-tenacity fiber technologies,
CORDURA® fibers have an exceptional strength-to-weight
ratio, while possessing a next-to-skin softness that provides
necessary comfort. Used alone or blended with other
materials, CORDURA® fiber is the go-to material when and
where durability is needed most.
What is the consumer benefit?
We’ve incorporated CORDURA® fibers into a variety of
material blends that are found throughout our Fall ’13
collections. Consumers can count on Timberland® jeans,
jackets, shirts and accessories lasting longer while maintaining
their intended look.
renet™
Performance nylon made from recycled
fishing nets and ropes.
Known as ghost nets, a massive number of
fishing nets and ropes have been left or lost in
our oceans where they can become a hazard
to marine wildlife, and even divers. ReNet™
fabric is a special material, utilizing the nylon
left behind to create a repurposed textile
that performs as well as virgin nylon.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
A newly developed de-polymerization process allows nylon
products to be recycled, returning them to their original
chemistry and ready for reuse. Through this process, ghost
nets, waste ropes and other discarded nylon goods are
converted into ReNet™ fabric.
What is the consumer benefit?
Consumers want sustainability but not at the expense of
performance. Lightweight, abrasion resistant and breathable,
ReNet™ fabric performs as well as virgin nylon.
Recanvas™
Rugged, breathable and made
from 100% recycled PET.
ReCanvas™ fabric looks and feels just like
traditional cotton canvas and carries with
it all of the same attributes that traditional
canvas is known for. Lightweight, breathable,
sturdy—it’s an excellent choice for versatile
apparel styles.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Made from 30% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles
(PET), ReCanvas™ fabric provides all of the benefits
of traditional cotton canvas with added eco-conscious
aspects. Look for it throughout our apparel collection in
light, medium and heavy weights.
What is the consumer benefit?
The consumer will enjoy the look, feel, breathability and
durability of traditional canvas and can also feel good
knowing that they’ve chosen a product that incorporates
a material made with the environment in mind.
DOWN
MOTHER NATURE’S WARMEST INSULATION.
Lightweight, durable and extremely warm,
down is the perfect natural insulation for
our warmest winter apparel.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY/MATERIAL?
Down is a layer of fine feathers located under the tougher
exterior feathers in birds. Down’s natural structure creates
a “loft” that traps air and retains warmth. The measure of
this loft or “fluffiness” is called the down fill power. Higher
down fill power numbers indicate a higher quality of down
with more air-trapping ability and consequent warmth. This
quality gives down a higher warmth-to-weight ratio than
synthetic insulation. Timberland uses only 100% goose or
duck down.
What is the consumer benefit?
Timberland consumers can engage in their favorite outdoor
activities without the worry of feeling cold, knowing that
down is the perfect lightweight and durable option to keep
them warm all season.
