Free Seminars To Help You
BUILD, RECOVER, And
PROTECT Your Investments.
To RSVP, visit hvfcu.org or call 845.463.3366.
Outlook 2010
During the first half of 2010 the
markets are likely to continue to
perform well as they have through
the latter half of 2009. Headwinds
may emerge to create a more
challenging environment for
investors. A more tactical approach
to investing will be important to
maintaining the path to long-term
financial independence. Join us for
an informative seminar to understand
how the markets will likely perform
in 2010. Alternative strategies will be
discussed. Investing in alternative
investments may not be suitable for
all investors and involve special
risks such as risk associated with
leveraging the investment, potential
adverse marketing forces,
regulatory changes and potential
illiquidity. There is no assurance
that the investment objectives will
be attained.
The Roth IRA in 2010 – Focused
on America’s New Tax Break
Converting to a Roth IRA brings new
opportunity for all in 2010. Anyone,
regardless of income level, will be
eligible to convert all or a portion of
their Traditional IRA or employersponsored plan to a Roth IRA in
2010. Some of the advantages may
include tax-free distributions, and no
required minimum distributions or
age and income limitations. Experts
are saying this legislative change may
become the single most powerful
estate building and wealth transfer
vehicle. Investors should discuss
tax-related strategies with a qualified
tax advisor.

Managing Your Finances In The 21st Century.
The digital age has not only changed our personal lives, but our
business and financial lives as well. The days of being limited to a
desktop computer are over, and even laptops (a novelty not that
long ago) are being replaced by netbooks, web-enabled cell
phones, and PDAs that can go anywhere and do just about
anything. Here at HVFCU, we’re excited about finding ways to
put today’s technology to good use with electronic services to
help you access your accounts and manage your money 24/7.
One great idea leads to another
The financial community quickly caught on to the potential of
electronic banking, and innovations continue to keep coming year
after year. A wide variety of online services are now available for
HVFCU members via our website, including: Internet Banking
and Bill Pay; account and loan applications; account and
transaction alerts; electronic newsletters; electronic statements;
live chat (via our website); check reordering; credit card account
access; credit and debit counseling through BALANCE; and
much more.
The benefits are clear
With real-time information always available, you can monitor
your accounts or conduct transactions on the go. Our electronic
services are accessible anywhere you happen to be, with no need
to travel to a branch. In addition to conserving your valuable time,
these environmentally friendly services also conserve natural
resources such as gasoline and paper by saving you a trip to a
branch, and by reducing or eliminating forms.

Online Bill Pay:
EASY. SECURE.
GREEN.
Online Bill Pay has surged in recent years,
with more than 75% of online households
now paying bills online on a regular basis.1
When you consider all the advantages of this
service it’s easy to see why it is so popular.
First, Bill Pay is quick and convenient.
Once you enter your payee information
into the system, it takes just seconds to pay
a bill. You don’t have to look up your
account number each time. And you don’t
have to write a check. You don’t have to pay
for stamps. Just enter the amount and
click “pay.”
Second, Bill Pay is secure. In fact, paying
bills online can actually help protect your
identity by keeping your information (and
your checks) out of your mailbox.
Third, Bill Pay is eco-friendly. Bill Pay can
dramatically reduce the use of paper,
gasoline, and other natural resources. If every
household in the country viewed and paid
bills online, we could save 16.5 million trees
each year and conserve enough energy to
provide residential power to San Francisco.2
How To
House-Hunt
From Your
Couch.
Need Money For Spring?
Apply For Home Equity
Financing Online.
Perhaps you’ve started thinking about your spring home improvement
project. Perhaps your child just got into college, and you’re wondering
how you’ll cover the tuition.
Perhaps Your Home Can Help
You can draw on the equity in your own home to finance just about
any expense: a new kitchen or deck, college for the kids, debt
consolidation, even a wedding or vacation. HVFCU makes such a
move particularly attractive with generous, flexible terms. Borrow as
little as $5,000...or as much as $250,000,1 and the interest may be tax
deductible. (Consult your tax advisor to determine your eligibility.)
If you’re in the market for a house, you could
spend hours driving through neighborhoods,
walking through countless homes, and
scouting out open houses. Or, you could just
sit back and let your computer do all the work!
Here are some steps that can lead you directly to the doorstep of
your dream home:
Step three: Dig deeper. Go to the county assessor’s office website
and search by address. You may be able to learn the appraised
value, the square footage, the builder’s name, and much more.
Step one: Search the MLS. Visit hvfcu.org, click on “Loans” and
then on “Mortgages.” Look under the “Resources” tab for our
“Find A Home” tool. This lets you specify your price range, how
many bedrooms and baths you want, and a particular area.
Step four: Figure out what your house is worth. There are
websites that can help with this, too! Naturally, you will only get
an estimate rather than an official appraisal. But you can visit
www.zillow.com or www.homegain.com to get a rough idea.
Step two: Get a birds-eye view. When you find an intriguing
listing, enter the address on Google Maps. You can see an aerial
view to get an idea of the size of the yard, then zoom in for a
street view.
Step five: Apply for a mortgage. Our online mortgage center has
all the tools you need. It’s easy to compare your mortgage options,
estimate your payments, complete an online application, or
contact us for friendly, personal assistance.
Loan or Line of Credit?
Which home equity product is right for you? Our home equity line of
credit allows you to borrow funds as you need them; in fact, you can
continue to draw on your line of credit for as long as you own your
home. And a line of credit offers several ways to access your funds.
Plus, right now our home equity line of credit is featuring a low
introductory rate, making it especially attractive. Visit hvfcu.org
for all the details.
Our home equity loan, on the other hand, is ideal for a single major
expense; it features a fixed interest rate and extremely generous
repayment terms.
HVFCU is happy to provide Online Bill
Pay free of charge. To give it a try, simply
visit hvfcu.org and sign on to Internet
Banking. Then click on “Options,” and
“Bill Pay Enrollment.” You will be
automatically enrolled, and can start
paying bills right away.
High-Speed Loan Approvals?
Yeah, We’ve Got An App For That.
You can always apply for a loan in person or by phone, but did you know that the
easiest, fastest way to process your loan is by using our online application?
• Apply for a consumer loan, credit card, auto loan, home equity, mortgage, and more!
• Apply any time
• Get an answer in just seconds
• Quick processing, normally in 24 hours
1) 2008 Consumer Banking and Bill Payment Survey
2) Javelin Strategy & Research Report
Go online to hvfcu.org and click on the link on our homepage. And remember, if you are purchasing a vehicle, you
also can tell the dealer you want to apply for HVFCU financing on site! Most Hudson Valley dealerships can provide
HVFCU financing.
2
You can borrow up to 90% of your home’s appraised value,1 less the
balance on your first mortgage. For example, say your home is
appraised at $150,000. Then 90% would be $135,000. If your first
mortgage balance currently stands at $80,000, your borrowing limit
would be $55,000. But best of all, there are never any closing costs!2
3
Apply Through our Website
Our online application allows you to apply and get an answer in
60 seconds or less. Visit hvfcu.org, under loans for a link to
our application.

Eligibility and total amount financed for home equity loans and home equity lines of credit are
based on an evaluation of applicant credit, appraised value, and existing liens (LTV).
Closing costs associated with this product are waived, provided loan is maintained for a minimum
of three years. HVFCU home equities refinanced within one year of inception are subject to
repayment of closing costs, in full. HVFCU will pay for property appraisal, credit report, flood
certification, attorney fee, mortgage tax, recording fee, and title search. Borrower is responsible for
both homeowners and flood insurance.

Online Bill Pay:
EASY. SECURE.
GREEN.
Online Bill Pay has surged in recent years,
with more than 75% of online households
now paying bills online on a regular basis.1
When you consider all the advantages of this
service it’s easy to see why it is so popular.
First, Bill Pay is quick and convenient.
Once you enter your payee information
into the system, it takes just seconds to pay
a bill. You don’t have to look up your
account number each time. And you don’t
have to write a check. You don’t have to pay
for stamps. Just enter the amount and
click “pay.”
Second, Bill Pay is secure. In fact, paying
bills online can actually help protect your
identity by keeping your information (and
your checks) out of your mailbox.
Third, Bill Pay is eco-friendly. Bill Pay can
dramatically reduce the use of paper,
gasoline, and other natural resources. If every
household in the country viewed and paid
bills online, we could save 16.5 million trees
each year and conserve enough energy to
provide residential power to San Francisco.2
How To

From Your

One great idea leads to another
The financial community quickly caught on to the potential of
electronic banking, and innovations continue to keep coming year
after year. A wide variety of online services are now available for
HVFCU members via our website, including: Internet Banking
and Bill Pay; account and loan applications; account and
transaction alerts; electronic newsletters; electronic statements;
live chat (via our website); check reordering; credit card account
access; credit and debit counseling through BALANCE; and
much more.
The benefits are clear
With real-time information always available, you can monitor
your accounts or conduct transactions on the go. Our electronic
services are accessible anywhere you happen to be, with no need
to travel to a branch. In addition to conserving your valuable time,
these environmentally friendly services also conserve natural
resources such as gasoline and paper by saving you a trip to a
branch, and by reducing or eliminating forms.

Online Banking And

Managing Your Finances In The 21st Century.
The digital age has not only changed our personal lives, but our
business and financial lives as well. The days of being limited to a
desktop computer are over, and even laptops (a novelty not that
long ago) are being replaced by netbooks, web-enabled cell
phones, and PDAs that can go anywhere and do just about
anything. Here at HVFCU, we’re excited about finding ways to
put today’s technology to good use with electronic services to
help you access your accounts and manage your money 24/7.
One great idea leads to another
The financial community quickly caught on to the potential of
electronic banking, and innovations continue to keep coming year
after year. A wide variety of online services are now available for
HVFCU members via our website, including: Internet Banking
and Bill Pay; account and loan applications; account and
transaction alerts; electronic newsletters; electronic statements;
live chat (via our website); check reordering; credit card account
access; credit and debit counseling through BALANCE; and
much more.
The benefits are clear
With real-time information always available, you can monitor
your accounts or conduct transactions on the go. Our electronic
services are accessible anywhere you happen to be, with no need
to travel to a branch. In addition to conserving your valuable time,
these environmentally friendly services also conserve natural
resources such as gasoline and paper by saving you a trip to a
branch, and by reducing or eliminating forms.
