Broadcast Guidelines
What you need to know to make the most of your sponsorship announcements.
1. Announcement copy should be similar in content and construction to the quality, professionalism and excellence that are
signature elements of public radio programming. Copy must be written as concisely as possible.
2.Announcement copy is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission, and is intended to identify, rather than
promote, your business or organization to the audience. In order to comply with FCC regulations, Wisconsin Public Radio
has established clarifying guidelines and retains final editorial authority over all announcement copy.
3. It is the policy of Wisconsin Public Radio that all business supporters follow the same guidelines, regardless of profit or non
profit status. Supporters of national programs produced by WPR may have different restrictions with relation to length and
preamble.
4. Each announcement is limited to 15 seconds in length. This includes the preamble. Copy should be able to be read comfortably,
out loud, in 13.5 seconds. A good guideline for this is 35 words.
