Antioch....Then Now
The Village of Antioch’s roots date back
to 1836, when Darius B. Gage, Thomas
Q. Gage, and Thomas Warner made the
first claims of government land. The first
house was constructed on the north side of
to grow and prosper. Abundant lakes for
fishing, boating, or just plain relaxing.
Parks to rest and let the kids play. Golf
courses to take your frustrations out on, or
enjoy with business associates or friends.

a solid base for our business community
to grow, specialty shops, a community
theater, our Heritage Museum, plus artists

Sequoit Creek, with homes following shortly
after on Loon Lake. The year 1839 brought
a sawmill built by Hiram Buttrick, with the
intention of providing the area with lumber
for steamboats, locomotive furnaces, log
homes, and split-rail fencing.
Today, Antioch has grown to nearly
14,000. It has many industries, retail and
service businesses, churches, schools,
organizations and neighborhoods.

Antioch’s Summer Bazaar & Fall Craft Faire
The Antioch Chamber of Commerce
hosts two popular craft faires each year. In
2012, Antioch combined it’s long-running
Summer Arts & Crafts Faire with Antiques
& Collectibles and a Flea Market. This
brings an eclectic assortment for all
shoppers! Every Father’s Day Weekend,
Antioch is the place to find arts, crafts,
antiques, collectibles and, the ever
popular, fleas. Participants travel from
around the country to participate in this
well attended Bazaar.
The Arts and Crafts portion of the Bazaar
has been in downtown Antioch for 30+
years. Shoppers find numerous treasures
from some of the country’s finest artisans.
You’ll enjoy browsing among 125+
booths at the June Bazaar. Admission is
always free to the public and you’ll find a
lot of free fun for the children (balloon art,
face painting, paint our town, etc).
Antioch’s Fall Arts and Crafts Faire has
grown each year to nearly the size of the
popular Summer Bazaar! You’ll find a
creative selection of arts and crafts with
an emphasis on the holidays. The Fall
AC Faire also boasts plenty of free family
fun during this two day event! Public
admission is free.
If you are a dog lover, watch for
additional information regarding our
Summer and Fall Arts & Crafts Faires.
There is always an opportunity to bring
your pooch for some doggy fun at our
AC Faires! Plus shoppers enjoy our new
location at the NE corner of Main Street
and Orchard Street. There are plenty
of parking opportunities throughout

Antioch’s Taste of Summer Festival is 4
days of Fun, Food, Shopping, Music and
Antioch IDOL! There is fun for everyone in
your family, so gather up your family and
friends and enjoy yourself!
Join us in the reverie and merriment that
each new Taste brings. Each year the Taste
grows bigger and better with the addition
of new fun activities! This year the kids
can enjoy Face Painting, Balloon Art,
Music and Activities absolutely free! Plus,
a great family Carnival if you would like to
purchase tickets for additional fun!
Each day the Taste brings great music and
events for your enjoyment. In 2013, the
Antioch Chamber is proud to bring Modern
Day Romeos, Hi Infidelity and 7th Heaven
as our Headliner Bands! Plus you’ll enjoy
local entertainment throughout the day.

Antioch IDOL for
Scholarships At
Antioch’s Taste
of Summer
Antioch IDOL for
Scholarships is back for 2013! A total
of $3,500 in Scholarship Dollars will
be awarded to our Idol Contestants.
Registration is available online at
AntiochChamber.org. Any vocally talented
student may register to participate, ages
12-21. Scholarship dollars are given
towards future education. In 2012, the
talent that Antioch IDOL brought to our
community was outstanding. Students
from 5 Counties are eligible to participate:
Lake County, IL; Kenosha County, WI;
McHenry County, IL; Racine County, WI;
and Walworth County, WI. Registration
is $20 per competitor. IDOL is limited to
the first 300 registrants, so register this
winter online to guarantee your audition
spot! There will be open registration on
Thursday, July 18th at 1 p.m. in case all
300 spots have not been taken.
All registrants are instructed to have two
accapella songs prepared, as well as one
song from the Live Band Karaoke Website.
Contestants will participate in Audition
Trials on Friday, July 19th at 1:00 p.m. at
the Taste of Summer. Bring your friends
and family for encouragement and plan
on spending a great afternoon at the Taste!
On Friday evening, around 9:30 p.m., the
Top 20 Semi-Finalists will be announced.
The Semi-Finalists will perform Saturday,
7/20, from 4-7 p.m. During this session
the Top Ten Finalists will be announced
and then perform. The Top 3 Contestants
from this group will perform that evening
during the Headline Band (Saturday, 7/20,
9-10 p.m.) for their chance to be our 2013
Antioch IDOL.
Scholarships will be awarded to the Top 3
Contestants: $2,000 1st Place, $1,000 2nd
Place, and $500 3rd Place. For additional

Concerts Under The Stars
“It’s Thursday” in Antioch boasts free
evening concerts under the stars at
Antioch’s downtown Bandshell. Dining
and shopping specials on Thursday nights
are designed to create a perfect evening
of food, fun, music, and shopping! “It’s
Thursday” concert series runs June
through August. Each week brings new
and different surprises to the Thursday
Night Concert....merchant bazaars, car
shows, farmers markets, and a host of fun!
The Farmer’s Market opens in June and
runs through September.
Fall & Winter
FallFest in Antioch means Wiener Races
and Brats!
Antioch’s Annual FallFest, held in
September or October in Downtown
Antioch’s Bandshell on Skidmore Drive.
The fun continues throughout the day into
the evening.
Antioch’s FallFest is designed for
family fun and has activities for every
age. Adults can enjoy challenges while
children enjoy various activities including

crafts, coloring contests, and a Haystack
Hunt (just to name a few)!
Antioch’s FallFest boasts the annual
running of the Wieners Race this year.
That’s right, a Wiener Race full of shortlegged, long-eared, barking ones! The
dachshund races take place in front of
the Antioch Bandshell one day either in
September or October beginning early
afternoon. Trophies, ribbons, and prizes
will be awarded in several categories.

Holiday Magic in Antioch
Winter in Antioch is a magical time.
Antioch ushers in the holiday season
in November with Holiday Walks in
Antioch’s quaint Downtown followed
by our annual Christmas Parade.
Thanksgiving is the beginning of fun and
shopping for the entire family. A magical
evening Holiday Parade followed by the
Village of Antioch’s official Tree Lighting
Ceremony takes place the Friday night
after Thanksgiving. Children of Antioch
are encouraged to create large outdoor
ornaments to hang each year on the
Village Tree. A visit from Santa as he
arrives in Antioch in the parade brings
smiles and excitement to kids of all ages.
Hot chocolate and cookies are enjoyed as
Santa departs the Tree Lighting Ceremony
to officially open Santa’s Enchanted
Village.
Children enjoy visits with Santa during
the month between Thanksgiving and
Christmas. Santa’s Enchanted Village
is open each day through Dec. 23rd.
Children may share their Christmas
wishes with Santa as he and his helpers
welcome everyone to come for a visit.
Photos may be taken by Santa’s helpers
for a nominal fee to help fund local
scholarships, or you may bring your own
camera to photograph your child during
their visit at Santa’s Enchanted Village.
Santa’s Enchanted Village is open
Monday through Friday from 5:30-8:00
p.m., and on Saturday and Sundays from
1:00-4:00 p.m. Contact the Antioch

Live Theatre & Music
Lakes Area Community Band
The Lakes Area Community Band,
founded 19 years ago, is an all-yearround opportunity for the local musicians
to get together once a week and “blow
their horn”! This full-size concert band
plays for local events and also performs
numerous concert
programs throughout
the year. “We are
always looking for
musicians to join
us”, says Director of
Music, Steve Porch.
The band rehearses

Lakes Area Swing Band
The Lakes Area Swing Band is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to
share the love of Big Band and Swing

of Conservation. They have
recently expanded both the
walleye and muskellunge
populations throughout the
Chain. The Fox Chain provides
the best place to go fishing in
Northern Illinois, with over forty
species of fish in sizes and
numbers desirable and soughtafter by anglers.
7,200 Acres of Water Fun
Located approximately 40 miles
northwest of Chicago on Illinois Routes
173 and 12 near the towns of Antioch
and Fox Lake, the 7,200 acres Fox Chain
O’Lakes are the largest single, inland,
water-oriented, recreational asset in
Northeastern Illinois. According to a
survey taken by the U.S. Coast Guard,
weekend usage on the Chain hits about
60,000 people on average and on
holidays that figure rises to 100,000
people.
Easy access to the major cities of
Chicago and Milwaukee has added to the
importance of the Chain. In addition to its
hotels, motels and resorts with cottages
in the immediate marina area, there are
also many marinas, restaurants, pubs,
bait, and tackle stores and recreational
lakefronts.
The future of the Chain is being
monitored by the Illinois Department
Since the Chain O’Lakes is classified
as a public navigable waterway and
is managed under the authority of the
Department of Transportation, Division of
Waterways, The Fox Waterway Agency and
the Department of Conservation, Division
of Fisheries, all state boating, hunting,
and fishing regulations are applicable
and enforced. Make your trip a fun one
by understanding the sport of fishing and
the types of bait and tackle to use, when,
where, and how. As the old saying goes,
“Ten percent of the fishermen catch ninety
percent of the fish”.
Safety should be a number one concern
when on the Chain (or any other body of
water). Make sure all your equipment is
in working order. Do not overload your
boat or run it at high speeds in unfamiliar
areas. Be courteous to everyone around
you and give assistance where needed.

Chain O’Lakes
Something is always happening on
the Chain! Boating, skiing, fishing,
swimming, hunting, racing, and
snowmobiling can all be enjoyed on these
11 lakes “chained” together. Recently
Antioch has become home to several
national fishing tournaments. Visit the
many unique resorts, restaurants, and
marinas located on the Chain O’Lakes.

Lakes Region Historical
Society Museum
Open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3
p.m. the Lakes Region Historic Society
Museum is set in a restored two-story,
brick schoolhouse. The museum houses
artifacts and memorabilia of the local
area and the Chain O’Lakes region with
seasonal changes in décor. Special
group museum tours are also available.
