Welcome back to school!
ensure that our students get off to
a good start.
Our District is still in recovery
from the tragic event that changed
lives forever. The Marysville
and Tulalip communities are
continuing to come together to
heal, and we hope you will join
us for #MPstronger – A Walk of
Strength at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct.
24 at Marysville-Pilchuck High
School. More information is
available at www.mtunited.org.
Dr. Becky Berg, Superintendent
Dear
Students,
Families,
Neighbors and Friends,
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year!
We are eagerly looking
forward to the start of school on
Wednesday, Sept. 9. The first days
of school are vitally important to
Following an extensive process
of listening as our community
shared their hopes and dreams for
our District, the Marysville School
Board has adopted Strategic
Directions that will guide our
work moving forward. You will
see the words “Engage. Inspire.
Prepare.” in many of our materials,
but it is much more than a slogan.
Student success is vital to the
future of our community, and
depends on building partnerships
between the District and
community.
targets.
We will be engaging our
community this year through our
redesigned website at www.msd25.
org, and encourage you to “like”
us at facebook.com/MarysvilleSD
and follow us on Twitter: @msd25.
Also, please note that our new
phone system has been installed
and our phone numbers have
changed. Look for a list of them in
this guide.
And we are preparing our
students by building skills in
collaboration, critical thinking,
creativity and communication,
integrating technology in all
aspects of teaching and learning.
Technology helps students learn
in new ways, at higher levels of
thinking, and helps them create as
well as consume knowledge.
An important process of
engagement is already well
underway as a Citizens Advisory
Committee is studying the
District’s facility needs, setting
priorities and is expected to
make a recommendation about a
potential bond measure this fall
after additional community input.
We will be inspiring our
students to find their passion and
pathways, empowering them as
active partners in their education
— setting goals, tracking their
progress, and reaching learning
We are enthusiastic about our
new 1-on-1 program that will
provide new Chromebooks to
all students in grades 6 through
12, thanks to your support of
the technology levy in 2014. All
schools now have Wi-Fi and
free public Wi-Fi is active every
evening at 5 p.m. and on weekends.
Thank you for your continuing
support of the District. It is such
an honor to serve this community.

Resolving Citizen Concerns
The Marysville School District
expects the educational and
support staff to act in a professional
manner and according to accepted
educational practice, and further
more presumes that citizens and
employees are committed to act in
the best interest of students.
However, we recognize the rights
of individuals to present complaints
or concerns directly to practices
occurring in the schools.
The Board of Directors relies on
its teachers, staff, and administrators
to resolve concerns of citizens. It is
the policy of the Board to provide
for such resolutions first at the level
most directly involved and in an
informal manner, if possible. If such
resolution cannot be accomplished,
however, procedures are available for
review at the highest administrative
level with an opportunity for appeal
to the School Board.
Levels of Review
Consistent with the policy
of resolution at the level most
directly involved and providing
opportunities to appeal such
decision to higher administrative
levels, complaints shall proceed
through the following steps of
review:
1. Teacher or Other Staff Person
2. Building Principal or
Immediate Supervisor
3. Executive Director or Assistant
Superintendent
4. Superintendent of Schools or
designee
5. Board of Directors

citizens concerns, please visit the

2015-2016 School Year Annual Notifications
Athletics
Annually students must submit
a completed athletic registration in
order to be eligible to participate.
The completed registration with the
following information is required:
• Signatures from required parties and contact information.
• Students must have a current
physical and insurance to participate. Physicals are good for 24
months (two years). The District issued physical form or United States
military forms must be used for
physicals. (Note with doctor’s signature will not be accepted).
• Athletic participation fees have
been eliminated. We still will require athletes to purchase an A.S.B.
card. This purchase is necessary
because it is A.S.B. dollars that support the individual sport programs
(uniforms and equipment) at your
school.
• Students must meet residence
and academics requirements for
eligibility. For more information
contact the Athletic Office at 360965-0111 or visit the WIAA website
at www.wiaa.com.
Career and Technical
Education (CTE): Connecting
Learning to Earning
Career and Technical Education
offers students in grades 7-12 an
opportunity to explore potential career options. CTE courses are embedded with core academics, STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics) and 21st Century
Employability Skills. This unique
option allows students to learn in
a project based; hands on delivery
model which helps better prepare
them for post-secondary education/
training and the world of work.
The Marysville School District
offers programs in a wide variety
of career pathways many of which
focus on high demand, high wage,
or regionally specific employment.
Descriptions of all CTE courses are
outlined in the student handbook.
CTE courses focus on the student
interests and offer college articulated courses allowing students to
potentially earn college credit at
the same time as meeting their high
school graduation requirements. In
addition, high school students can
more effectively meet their graduation requirements by using the
2 for 1, and Credit Equivalency
Options recently created by the
legislature and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
For more information about these
options, please speak to your school
counselor.

Facilities Notifications
The 1986 Asbestos Hazardous
Emergency Response Act (AHERA)
requires school Districts to identify
buildings that contain asbestos. The
act also requires school facilities
to maintain written management
plans. Management plans are available for review at individual schools
as well as at our Maintenance Office, located at 4220 80th Street NE.
The 2001 Legislature passed
House Bill 1451 that requires school
Districts to notify the public of
pest control and herbicide use. An
interested person can register with
the District Maintenance Office to
receive notification of pesticide application or obtain further information about the Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPMP). The IPMP
plan is also available for review at
the District Maintenance Office.
For more information about
these notices, please contact Greg
Dennis at 360-965-0136.
Family Educational Rights
and Privacy Act Notification
(FERPA)
FERPA afford parents and students over 18 years of age (“eligible
students”) certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. These rights are:
(1) The right to inspect and review the student’s education records
within 45 days of the day the school
receives a request for access.
Parents or eligible students
should submit to the school principal a written request that identifies
the record(s) they wish to inspect.
The principal will make arrangements for access and notify the parent or eligible student of the time
and place where the records may be
inspected.
(2) The right to request the
amendment of the student’s education records that the parent or eligible student believes is inaccurate.
Parents or eligible students may
ask the school to amend a record
that they believe is inaccurate. They
should write the school principal,
clearly identify the part of the record they want changed, and specify why it is inaccurate. If the school
decides not to amend the record as
requested by the parent or eligible
student, the school will notify the
parent or eligible student of the
decision and advise them of their
right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional
information regarding the hearing
procedures will be provided to the
parent or eligible student when notified of the right to a hearing.
(3) The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable
information contained in the student’s education records, except to
the extent that FERPA authorizes
disclosure without consent.
One exception, which permits
disclosure without consent, is disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests. A
school official is a person employed
by the school as an administrator,
supervisor, instructor, or support
staff member (including health or
medical staff and law enforcement
unit personnel); a person serving
on the school board; a person or
com
pany with whom the school
has contracted to perform a special
task (such as an attorney, auditor,
medical consultant, or therapist);
or a parent or student serving on an
official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee, or
assisting another school official in
performing his or her tasks.
A school official has a legitimate
educational interest if the official

or allow you to opt your child out
of participating in certain school
activities. These activities include a
student survey, analysis, or evaluation that concerns one or more of
the following eight areas (“protected
information surveys”):
1. Political affiliations or beliefs of
the student or student’s parent;
2. Mental or psychological prob-
lems of the student or student’s
family;
3. Sex behavior or attitudes;
4. Illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating, or demeaning behavior;
5. Critical appraisals of others
with whom respondents have close
family relationships;
6. Legally recognized privileged
relationships, such as with lawyers,
doctors, or ministers;
7. Religious practices, affiliations,
or beliefs of the student or parents or
8. Income, other than as required
by law to determine program
eligibility.
This requirement also applies to
the collection, disclosure or use of
student information for marketing
purposes (“marketing surveys”),
and certain physical exams and
screenings.
The District will provide parents,
within a reasonable period of time
prior to the administration of the
surveys and activities, notification
of the surveys and activities and
be provided an opportunity to opt
their child out, as well as an opportunity to review the surveys. (Please
note that this notice and consent/
opt-out transfers from parents to
any student who is 18 years old or
an emancipated minor under State
law.)

helping to make our school community a safer place to work and
learn!
Sexual Harassment
Students and Staff are protected
against sexual harassment by anyone in any school program or activity, including on the school campus,
on the school bus, or off-campus,
such as a school-sponsored field
trip. A copy of Policy 5011 “Sexual
Harassment” is available online at
www.msd25.org or at the District
Office: 4220 80th Street NE, Marysville, WA, 360-965-0000.
Special Education
The Marysville School District
provides special education support
for students with disabilities from
birth through age 21. Specialists
including school psychologists,
speech/language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists,
nurses and teachers are available to
evaluate students and provide extra support services for those who
qualify. Students with disabilities
have a range of services available
depending on need.
Commonly identified areas
include delayed development in
speech, language or communication, motor or physical development, self-help skills, behavior or
emotional needs or learning delays
that are affecting the child’s ability to understand and use new
information. Every student who
receives special education services
must have a current evaluation and
a current signed Individualized
Education Program (IEP) that has
been developed jointly by teachers,
parents and other professionals.
Please call the Special Education
Department at 360-965-0170 or
contact the school psychologist at
your neighborhood school to refer
a student for an evaluation or for
more information. Please note that
all services, including appropriate
referrals for evaluation, are provided free of charge to the parent or
guardian.
Student Conduct
The Marysville School District
acknowledges that conduct and
behavior is closely associated to
learning. An effective instructional
program requires a wholesome and
orderly school environment. The
District requires that each student
adhere to the rules of conduct and
submit to corrective action taken as
a result of conduct violations. The
rules of conduct are applicable during the school day as well as during
any school activity conducted on or
off campus. Special rules are also
applicable while riding on a school
bus.
A copy of Policy 3240 “Student
Conduct Expectations and Reasonable Sanctions” is available online
at www.msd25.org or at the District
Service Center: 4220 80th Street
NE, Marysville, WA, 360-965-0000.
Student Insurance
The Marysville School District
has a very active safety program
that is committed to the safety of
our students; however, the District
is not responsible for student accidents on District property unless
the District is found to be negligent. For those families who may
not already have accident insurance
for their students, the Marysville
School District makes available
student accident insurance administrated by Myers-Stevens & Toohey
& Co., Inc. Information regarding
this insurance coverage and its costs
is sent home at the beginning of
the school year and is also available
in your school’s main office. You
may also phone the Risk Management Office at 360-965-0109 if you
have questions regarding insurance
coverage.
Student Records and the Law
Most information about our students is confidential and cannot
be made public without consent of
parents or guardians. The Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA) prohibits schools from
releasing information without permission, except for what is termed
“Directory Information.” Directory
information about students may
be released by the District without
parental consent. The Marysville
School District has designated in
Policy 4080, Section 8, and the following items as “Directory Information”. This means the District may
release, without written consent,
the student’s and parent’s/guardian’s
names, addresses and telephone
numbers; date and place of birth;
major field of study; participation
in official recognized activities and
sports; weight and height of members of athletic teams; dates of attendance; degrees and awards received;
the most recent educational agency
or institution attended by the student; and photographs of students
for public information purposes.
This does not mean that this information is freely available to anyone, but rather only for authorized,
school-related purposes. A student’s
name will be excluded from any such
list of students on written request
by a parent or guardian received
by October 1, 2015. Furthermore,
a parent or guardian may request
that any or all of these categories of
information not be released under
any circumstances without their
consent. Such requests should be
addressed in writing to the building
principal and need to be updated
annually. The school District will
not release directory information
for commercial purposes.
Obtaining Student Records
Parents and students over 18
years of age have the right to:
1. Inspect and review the student’s education records.
2. Request the amendment of the
student’s education records that the
parent or eligible student believes
are inaccurate or misleading.
3. Consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information
contained in the student’s education
records, except to the extent the
FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
4. File a complaint with the U.S.
Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the District
to comply with the requirements of
FERPA.
Student Rights and
Responsibilities
The Marysville School District
is dedicated to achieving academic
excellence while developing self-directed, lifelong learners, respecting
individual differences, and preparing responsible citizens. To provide
information to parents regarding the
policies and regulations for students
we have developed a Student Rights
and Responsibilities Handbook in
accordance with Policy 3200 - Student Rights and Responsibilites,
which describes: the responsibilities
of students to maintain a school attitude and behavior which is safe,
orderly, and promotes a positive
learning climate; the rights of students to humane, professional, and
legal treatment in school; additional
policies and regulations that affect
students.

Health Services: Keeping Students Well
Marysville
School
District
Health Services encourages you to
contact us with any health-related
concerns or needs you may have for
your child during their educational
day.
RCW 28A.210.320 Children
with Life-Threatening Health
Conditions (e.g. Seizures, Diabetes, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma):
Washington State law requires students with life-threatening health
conditions to have an Emergency
Care Plan, Medications, Equipment, and a Treatment order in
place prior to their first day of
school attendance. If the parents
do not provide the appropriate information needed to complete the
above, the school District may exclude the student from school in accordance with RCW 28A.210.320.
Please contact Health Services at
360-965-2056 for further information, forms, or questions.
Medications at School: Students who require medication
during the school day must comply with State Law and District
policies. This includes prescribed
and non-prescription medications
(over the counter). State Law and
District policy states the student
must have written orders from a licensed health provider, written permission from parent, and the medications must be brought to school
in an original and current labeled
container, by a parent or guardian.
School Districts provide for the
administration of medications
that are administered through the
mouth either by swallowing, inhaling through an inhaler, or inhaled
through a mask that covers either
the mouth, or mouth and nose.
In the event your student requires
medications to be administered
other than oral, the situation will
need to be discussed with the District RN, please contact Health Services at 360-965-2056 for further
information, forms, or questions.
It is preferable that medications
be dispensed before and/or after
school hours under the supervision
of a parent or guardian
Illness/Injury: When your student is ill, please do not send them
to school until he/she is able to participate in a full day of school activities. In case of fever (100 degrees
or more), the student’s temperature
should be back to normal for at least
24 hours (without the use of fever
reducing medications), before the
student returns to school. If your
child has been hospitalized, had
surgery, or a significant illness/injury, please contact your child’s school
prior to the student returning, to
obtain a return-to-school form. A
physician’s signature is required,
and possibly a health plan for a safe
return to school.
Communicable Diseases (Pertussis, Influenza, etc.): Marysville
Health Services works closely with
Washington State Department of
Health and the Snohomish Health
Department to monitor, for any
actions needed for student, staff
and community safety. If there are
actions needed we will issue communication through your student’s
school and/or the District website.
We encourage all to practice the following and remind your child: to
cover their cough and sneezes, wash
hands regularly, and to stay home
when ill. Information can be found
at http://www.doh.wa.gov/ .
Immunizations:
Washington
State law (RCW 28A.210.160) require that all students have a Certificate of Immunization Status on file
and that it is compliant with state
School attendance requirements
prior to attending. Your child’s
school will notify you if and when
further vaccinations are needed to
maintain compliance. When submitting vaccine dates to school,
please include the month, date and
year the vaccine was obtained. Immunizations are available through
your physician and some local
pharmacies.

Screenings: The District Nurses
will conduct state mandated vision screenings for Kindergarten
through 3rd grade, 5th graders, and
7th graders during the school year.
The school your child attends will
notify you of the screening dates.
Insurance: The District does

Alternative Learning Experience Programs
Marysville Online Virtual Education
Program (MOVE UP) Grades 9-12
sesses the necessary skills to work
independently in an online learning
environment.
MOVE UP is an online high
school program, designed for motivated students to complete their educational coursework online. Over
100 courses are offered through
a partnership with Connections
Learning, using online curriculum
from Advanced Academics.
Students will work with Washington State certified teachers to
complete all of their courses online.
Weekly, two-way communication
with teachers is required (via email,
telephone, online chat or interactive
digital tools) and monthly progress
goals must be maintained in order
to remain in the online program.
Spanish speaking teachers are
available.
Students meeting all District and
state graduation requirements in
MOVE UP will receive a diploma
from the Marysville School District. In order to apply to MOVE
UP, interested students must have
a documented reading level above
7th grade, via the STAR or comparable state testing criterion, as well
as a written recommendation from
a school counselor and/or administrator that states the student pos-
School-Home Partnership Program
(SH0PP) (K-8 and 9-12)
The School-Home Partnership
Program (SHoPP) is an alternative learning experience in which
students complete the majority of
their learning activities outside of
the classroom. The kindergarten
through 8th grade portion of the
program, located at MarysvillePilchuck High School, operates as
a parent partnership, with parents
instructing students at home, under the guidance of a certificated
teacher, using District-approved
and-provided materials.
Parents and students meet with
the teacher at least once a week to review learning activities and coursework, take assessments, monitor
progress, adjust learning goals and/
or plan new learning opportunities.
For 9-12 SHoPP, there are two
locations:
In grades nine through 12, students at the Marysville-Pilchuck High
School site attend class a minimum of
two days a week for advisory and content instruction, but complete most
of their work at home via a learning
contract and a combination of textbook and/or online courses. The student’s instructional level in math will
determine their days of attendance at
SHoPP. All students enrolled as “fulltime” must complete at least 25 hours
of learning activities per week.
At the Heritage High School site,
students attend four days a week for
three or more hours, and will receive
direct instruction in a variety of content areas. Learning plans are developed to support the individual needs
of the students. Full-time students will
complete at least 25 hours of learning
activities each week.
To be successful in SHoPP, students
must be motivated learners who work
well independently and have strong
academic support from home.
SOAR (9-12)
SOAR is a contract-based alternative learning program, located
on the Marysville Mountain View
Campus. SOAR is “alternative” because it follows a varied time schedule and focuses on integrated, thematic-based core curriculum and
independent learning modules.
Students are scheduled in blocks
of time to receive morning or afternoon instruction in social studies,
English, science and math. In addition, students work independently
outside of class on homework and
learning projects that align with
the individual learning goals they
design with their teacher/advisers.
Students may also enroll in elective
and CTE classes offered at MMVHS,
Sno-Isle and/or Running Start.
SOAR provides an option for
motivated students who work well
independently. Shorter terms; integrated learning; personal responsibility; relationships and relevance
are foundational in this program.
Students must apply, submit a recommendation from a counselor
and/or administrator, and complete
an orientation program prior to acceptance into SOAR.

Understanding Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying
Marysville School District Prohibition of
Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying
The Marysville School District
strives to provide students with
optimal conditions for learning by
maintaining a school environment
where everyone is treated with
respect and no one is physically or
emotionally harmed. In order to
ensure respect and prevent harm, it
is a violation of District policy for a
student to be harassed, intimidated,
or bullied by others in the school
community, at school sponsored
events, or when such actions create
a substantial disruption to the
educational process.
Any school staff who observes,
overhears, or otherwise witnesses

have been reported must take
prompt and appropriate action to
stop the harassment and to prevent
its reoccurrence.

be investigated with reasonable
promptness. Any student may have a
trusted adult with them throughout
the report and investigation process.
The investigation will be
completed as soon as practicable
but generally no later than five
(5) school days from the initial
complaint or report. If more time is
needed to complete an investigation,
the District will provide the parent/
guardian and/or the student with
weekly updates. No later than two
(2) school days after the investigation

If the incident cannot be resolved
at the school level, the principal
or designee will request assistance
from the District.
Corrective Measures for the
Aggressor
After
completion
of
the
investigation, the school or District
designee will institute any corrective
measures necessary. Corrective
measures will be instituted as
quickly as possible, but in no event
more than five (5) school days
after contact has been made to the
families or guardians regarding the
outcome of the investigation.
If in an investigation a principal
or principal’s designee found
that a student knowingly made
a false allegation of harassment,
intimidation, or bullying, that
student may be subject to corrective
measures, including discipline.
Targeted Student’s
Right to Appeal
If the complainant or parent/
guardian is dissatisfied with the
results of the investigation, they may
appeal to the superintendent or his
or her designee by filing a written
notice of appeal within five (5)
school days of receiving the written
decision. The superintendent or
his or her designee will review the
investigative report and issue a
written decision on the merits of the
appeal within five (5) school days of
receiving the notice of appeal.
Discipline/Corrective Action
The District will take prompt
and equitable corrective measures
within its authority on findings
of harassment, intimidation, or
bullying. Depending on the severity
of the conduct, corrective measures
may include counseling, education,
discipline, and/or referral to law
enforcement.
Support for the
Targeted Student
Persons

to
have
been subjected to harassment,
intimidation, or bullying will have
appropriate District support services
made available to them, and the

Marysville School District adopts New Phone System
Marysville School District
The Marysville School District has changed its phone numbers District
wide as a new phone system has been installed. A list of new numbers
for the schools and key District departments is here and has been posted
to the District web site at msd25.org.
The new ShoreTel system is being funded by the technology levy
approved by Marysville School District voters in 2014. It replaces an
outdated system that was no longer being manufactured and increasingly
challenging to sustain.
The District will now have just one prefix for all numbers, 965. The
new main District Service Center number is 360-965-0000. The old main
numbers for the schools will be forwarded to the new main number.
Select District office and other extensions will also be forwarded, but the
bulk of the old phone numbers will not be forwarded to a new number.
As part of the new phone system, numbers and voicemail boxes are
no longer tied to an individual person. Rather, they are tied to a role or
a location. That means when 911 is dialed from a phone, the physical
location of that phone is also given to aid an emergency response.
For more information, contact the Marysville School District Technology
department, 360-965-0190.

2015-2016 is shaping up to be an even
more exciting year for Marysville
Report on
Technology
By Scott Beebe
Director of Technology
It has been a whirlwind summer here in the Marysville School
District Technology Department
after a whirlwind school year. Last
summer I wrote to the community
outlining plans for the funds provided by the levy passed in February 2014. I’m thrilled to be writing
another update to share what we
were able to accomplish in year
one, and some really exciting news
for year two.
Our first major initiative last
year was building a robust wireless network across all District facilities, so we had the ability to connect students and staff to network
resources, regardless of location.
This involved significant design
work as we placed over 750 individual access points, all connected
back to a host controller at the
central office facility. We partnered
with a local Marysville company,
Advanced Classroom Technologies, to install more than 60 miles
of network cabling to connect and
install all of the access points.
The system went live in February
of last year, and now all District facilities also have Wi-Fi available to
the community during non-school
hours, as promised.
Having a robust Wi-Fi network
was an important first step in realizing the educational potential of
connecting students and teachers,
but it doesn’t do a whole lot of good
to have a wireless network with
nothing to connect to it.
Over the course of last school
year, we also put more than 2,000
new computing devices into service for students. Additionally, we
deployed 755 new laptops to our
teachers just before school ended in
June, which was the first Districtwide computer deployment for
teachers in a decade.
However, new computing resources alone are not the answer
though to improved outcomes for
students. Rather, it is what we do
with those computing resources to
improve the learning opportunities for students that will make a
difference.
As a result, we also worked
hard last year to define a profes-
sional course of study for teachers
in our District to provide teachers
with knowledge and skill to take
full advantage of connected classrooms. Our first cohort of teachers
in grades 9-11 began this multi-year
professional journey together earlier in August. Our really big project this summer involved designing and building an entirely new phone system,
because our old system was increasingly unstable and the company
that made it went out of business
many years ago.
We’ve placed 1,348 new phones
across the District and implemented a much more stable system that
will be easier to sustain and support. As part of this project, we also
put a consistent phone numbering
protocol in place for schools, which
in the long term will provide improved and consistent communication opportunities. In the short
term though, it means we have to
learn new phone numbers for the
school District. There is a listing of
key numbers on page 18 in the Back
to School Guide.
2015-2016 is shaping up to be an
even more exciting year for Marysville. Our teachers will be working
hard to learn about teaching in a
connected classroom, and that is
key to improving outcomes for
students.
Computing resources have become integral to professional and
personal life in a myriad of ways,
but not always in our schools, and
not always for every family. We’re
about to change that in Marysville.
Our major initiative for 2015-2016
will be placing a computing device
into the hands of every student in
grades 6-12 while also significantly
increasing access in the elementary
grades.
That’s a massive commitment
to our kids made possible by the
generosity of this community and
the work of our teachers. That universal access coupled with teachers
who are committed to making strategic and intentional use of technology in teaching and learning will
help Marysville kids take a big step
forward in accessing opportunities
in school and life.
The MSD Tech Team is thrilled
to continue the partnership with
this amazing community to give
our students tools to realize a bright
future.

District.

School, Family and
Community Partnerships
Marysville School District recognizes the important role parents,
family, and the community play in
our students’ success. Communication cannot be emphasized enough,
even if for a brief moment, to let
your child know that you are a partner in their education.
Family Engagement
The District wishes to promote
respectful partnerships between educators, administrators and families
in order to support student learning
and positive child/youth development at home, in school, and in
the community. Below are ways in
which we hope to accomplish this.
Parent-Teacher Communication
Parents and family are the teacher’s best resource concerning their
child, and can help the teacher understand their child’s behavior, personality, likes and dislikes. Building a positive relationship with the
teacher and the school sends a positive message to your child about the
importance of their education. Be
sure and call the teacher or school if
you have questions.
It is always a good idea to make
sure your contact information in
the main school office is updated so
staff can reach you easily; and check
your child’s backpack daily to make
sure you are receiving important information from the school.
We continue to build meaningful
family engagement in our schools
in two ways:
1) Family Engagement Nights.
The engagements are intended for
all Marysville School District families to be advocates and participate
as partners in decision-making
affecting student success, learn
more about schools and school systems, and partner in their child’s
education.
Be on the lookout for the announcement of the next Family Engagement Night coming this fall.
2) Parent Advisory Council
(PAC). The PAC is to advise the Su-
perintendent on ways our schools
and school District can provide a
welcoming environment to all families, develop strong school-home
partnerships, and promote the active participation of parents, family,
and community members in the
achievement and well-being of all
students.
Community
The Marysville School District
has enjoyed a long history of support from numerous business
and industry partners in the surrounding community. From program contributions, donations of
resources to individual schools, to
supporting students in workplace
experience, these ongoing partnerships continue to provide collaborative opportunities.
The need for community partnerships has never been greater as
we strive to adequately prepare our
students for their future in an ever
changing global economy.
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have active advisory committees that meet
regularly to assist those programs in
providing professional insight into
current industry standards, and relevant workplace opportunities.
CTE offers programs to students
from grades 7-12 affording all students the opportunity to experience real-world, hands on training
through project based activities.
Students are exposed to the skills
sets necessary to be successful in
the world of work in a career field of
their choice.
Career and College Readiness
(CCR) is a key component to each
CTE program. The Naviance CCR
Planning Program provides students and their parent/guardians
the tools necessary to explore career
and college planning.
Students participating in a high
school CTE program may also take
advantage of work-site learning that
occurs during the regular school
year, and provides the opportunity
to complete job shadowing and/
or internships with potential credit
options.
