A Coop
Our mission is to provide art for the community and
serve as a community for artists. Since opening in June
of 2009, Artistree Gallery Cooperative has grown to 32
members. A visit to our spacious Gallery will give you
insight into the creative talent living in this region and,
hopefully, let you find that piece of art that’s perfect for
you or a friend. A member-artist is always available to
assist, if needed, or just allow you to enjoy fine art.
We wish to thank all our customers and loyal
supporters, who have been instrumental in helping us
become a vibrant and important part of the Northwoods
arts scene. Artistree Gallery has become a destination
for those living in or visiting the Land O Lakes area, All
the art on display is produced by regional artists living in
Northern Wisconsin and the Western Upper Peninsula of
Michigan. Artistree Gallery is located in the LOLA Center
for the Arts building in downtown Land O’ Lakes.

The 2016 museum exhibit transitions from the
Guides: Past & Present to the Donaldson School, and
features a magnificent model of the school created by
Wes Geib, local artisan.

The volunteers
and members
of the Frosty
Snowmobile Club,
Inc. maintain
45 miles of
snowmobile trails in
the Land O’ Lakes
area. Approximately
half of these trails
are on private land
and are available for
club use through
the generosity of
the land owners.
The State of
Wisconsin through
the Department of
Tourism, gas tax
and snowmobile
registration fees funds approximately 50% of the cost of
maintaining the 32 miles of the club’s state funded trails.
The remainder of all of the costs incurred by the club for
trail and grooming machine operation and maintenance
comes from club sponsored activities, memberships and
donations.
Those activities include the Annual Cash Raffle,
Advertising fees from the Snowmobile Trail Map,
the Snowmobile Safety Certification Class, Sunrise
Snowmobile Benefit Breakfast, Pig Skin Poker Run, Radar
Run, Frosty King and Queen, and Chili Feed Benefit. The
owners and staffs of Bent’s Camp, Brew’s Pub, the Bear
Trap, Sunrise Lodge and Land O’ Lakes Recreation along
with club volunteers pitch in to make these events a
success.
It will be financially advantageous to be a Wisconsin
Snowmobile Club member for the 2015-16 season
as the cost of trail passes will be reduced for AWSC
members. Membership forms are on our trail maps, we
hope you will consider us when choosing a club to join.
Our membership form is available on Facebook.
Trail maintenance is performed in the fall and grooming
starts a few days before the opening of trails in early
December. Throughout the season which lasts until March
31st grooming is done on a nightly basis if weather and
snow conditions permit. Our groomers operate during
the night to allow the trails to set up as much as possible
before they are ridden the next day. This generally allows
the Land O’ Lakes trails to be some of the best in the
area as we generally have more than our fair share of
snow during the season. Look for us on Facebook and
Snowtracks for trail reports and updates throughout the
season.

trail into a 40-mile multi-use trail loop that
will encircle the Sylvania Wilderness, a part
of the National Wilderness Preservation
System. The entire project is estimated to
cost $2,500,000 and approximately 75% of
the cost of this project is expected to be
funded by state, federal and private grants.

donations.

Several of the most popular routes include:
a 13-mile family friendly paved trail which
begins downtown and travels west through
stands of tall, white pine and sugar maple
forests; a 12-mile compacted surface trail
which connects the Watersmeet Town Park and
the Ottawa National Forest Visitors Center to
the town of Land O’ Lakes that is best suited for
hybrid or mountain bikes; and a 22 mile road
bike route which begins at the intersection of
County B and County S and ends in Eagle River.

NorthernWaters Museum. Portions of the popular GUIDE‘S EXHIBIT
will remain as the museum transitions into another phase of
local history, early education, through a presentation on the Donaldson
School, active in the early 1900’s, as the area was changing from
huntin shing and resorts.

ATV’s have a new route through Land O’ Lakes
adding another recreation opportunity!
Kicking off the ATV season in 2015 our neighboring
Club, Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and
the Environment and the Land O’Lakes and Watersmeet
Chambers, celebrated the Grand Opening of a newly
completed multi-use State designated ORV trail. This
new 26 mile connecting route between Wisconsin and
Michigan is called the LL Trail.

as MI-TRALE, is
an alliance of
multiple trail and
outdoor recreation
enthusiasts.Their
Mission is: To
advance the safe and responsible use of multi-use trails
for both motorized and non-motorized trail recreationists,
by working towards the development, designation and
interconnection of multi-use trails in the Western Upper
Peninsula of Michigan.
MI-TRALE offers over 550 miles of ATV, ORV, MultiUse and Horse trails in the Western U.P. of Michigan and
provides access to over 2800 miles of different trails for a
variety of users in 5 counties of the Upper Peninsula.
The trail opening enables the Wisconsin ATV riders to
access the vast trail system in the Western UP of Michigan.
The event also was celebrated with a memorial being
dedicated to “Buck” Obukowicz, from Wisconsin, who
loved ATV-ing and rode extensively in Wisconsin and
Michigan with his family.
MI-TRALE hosted the event in coordination with the
Land O’Lakes and Watersmeet Chambers of Commerce.
In attendance were Wisconsin Senator Tom Tiffany
from Senate District 12, Wisconsin Representative Rob
Swearengin, and Sarah Klavas Deputy Secretary for
the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, as well as a
representative for Michigan Senator Tom Casperson from
Senate District 38. In addition, present were numerous
special guests from Madison, Wisconsin, as well as Vilas
County and Michigan surrounding counties.
A social hour with coffee and donuts provided by the
Gateway Lodge started the event. Following the ribbon

over 100 riders
proceeded
from Land O’
Lakes through
Watersmeet,
stopping at
Bass Lake where the Watersmeet Chamber provided
homemade cookies and refreshments. The ride
continued through the very scenic Ottawa National
Forest encompassing upland hardwoods and red pine
plantations. This portion of the trail was opened in
cooperation with the hard work of the Ottawa National
Forest and MI-TRALE. The ride continued on to Bond
Falls, where riders were able to have lunch and enjoy the
beautiful falls. UPCO graciously provided parking close
to the falls. Returning through the majestic beauty of the
Ottawa National Forest, the riders stopped at Headwaters
Polaris, located in Watersmeet, where drawings were held
for numerous prizes. The ride continued, returning to the
trail head located in
Land O’ Lakes, WI
where it concluded.

by Channel 6 in
Marquette and
Channel 12 in
Rhinelander. A
representative from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism
and numerous other media sources from throughout the
UP of Michigan and Wisconsin were also present.
Special recognition and appreciation was given to
the Ottawa National Forest, The Michigan Department
of National Resources, Michigan Department of
Transportation and the Landover ATV Club for making
this trail possible. In addition, it would not have been as
successful if it were not for all the many supporters and
volunteers from Michigan and Wisconsin who contributed
so much to making the ride successful.
MI-TRALE and the Land O’ Lakes Chamber of
Commerce would like to again thank all of the Federal,
State, and Local agencies as well as businesses and
individuals who made this trail opening successful and
