DuKane Chapter A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois
DuKane Chapter A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois A BROTHERHOOD AIMED TOWARDS EDUCATION • Volume 27 •Issue 11 Officer Listing: President Judy Kaenel 630-669-2588 [email protected] Vice President Patty Smith 630-397-1385 [email protected] Secretary Stacy Markham 847-305-7959 [email protected] Treasurer Tina Hejnar 630-277-1911 [email protected] Legislative Amanda Gotte 815-757-1410 [email protected] State Rep Mike Hahn 630-430-6632 [email protected] November 2015 From the President: Judy Kaenel Elizabeth Andrew once wrote “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart” These are profound words for what the volunteers do for our chapter. Day after day, we have selfless individuals step up and say “how can we help?” A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois is driven by volunteerism and I believe that is why we are so successful in lobbying our state legislators. These lawmakers respond better to groups that are not looking for financial gain but to better the lives of those they lobby for. Nothing is more truer in our state. There are so many chapters that have a core group of volunteers that never give up. They keep their noses to the grindstone and pound the pavement for our motorcyclists. But they get tired. These wonderful human beings; our chapter’s precious commodity get tired. But never once have I heard them complain. They work for our events, our community without grumbling but I know that they are starting to look for someone else to take the lead. I am hoping in the coming 2016 year that we have new blood, new helping hands to hoist our chapter to even greater success! Would you be interested in helping? Independent Rep. Matt O’Day 630-806-9207 [email protected] There are so many avenues that you can lend a hand. On February 20th we are hosting our Annual Laugh Into Spring Comedy Showcase. This fun and entertaining event will again be held at the Fox River Harley Davidson in Saint Charles where we turn that dealership into a nightclub. We need strong arms for set up; aggressive ticket salespeople and friendly smiling faces on the night of the show to greet our guests. On June 12th our Annual Kneeze in the Breeze will get our riding in gear – we always need road captains, route designers and registration help. Onward to July 23rd and our Annual Bikini Bike Wash. Besides always welcoming our great bike washers there is a need for bike movers, set up and registration. The 7th Women’s Run scheduled for August 14th is a women designed; women run event and for those ladies that want to make a difference this is where you shine! And of course…. The Annual Toy and Food Run. On October 9th we will celebrate our 30th year with this event! THIRTY YEARS is a huge accomplishment and we cannot do this without our volunteers. In early January I am going to need help with getting sponsors; donations and early PR work. If this is something you want to sink your teeth into, bite away! I need all the help I can get to make this the best yet. Independent Rep. Debbie Sims 630-901-3351 [email protected] So you see DuKane Chapter thrives on volunteerism. This is what keeps us ticking. Step out of your comfort zone and raise your hand to help. We need you more than ever in 2016! This past year has been quite a memorable. We hosted over 350 riders on a number of amazing road trips through some of the most beautiful country imaginable. Route 66, Sturgis, Yellowstone park, Red Lodge Montana and the Beartooth Pass, The Lake Michigan Circle Tour and the Tomahawk Rally were each awesome in their own right, and leave me eagerly anticipating the rides we already have planned for the 2016 season. I also enjoyed riding part of the way to Springfield with many of you and the Governor…what an awesome job by ABATE in lining that up. And this great weather continues to keep many of on the Road, even today. While I can reflect favorably on some great rides, I am sure the sting of winter is probably lurking in the back of your mind; but there will still be plenty of great riding days ahead of us this year. To add a little solace, weather forecasters are calling for a temperate winter (and even though I do not place much faith in the weatherman, I sure can hope…). Although I am hoping for the best and plan on riding my bike until Mother Nature firmly puts her foot down in my path, I also am planning for next season and great opportunities to enjoy the open road. As the largest Motorcycle Group in the Chicagoland area, we are very excited about the rides we undertake. Each year, we join our riding public on a number of great rides to feature destinations like Daytona Bike Week, Route 66, and of course Sturgis. For us, this is what being a dealer is all about…This is why we are in business and why we exist…quite simply, to RIDE, enjoying the freedom, only found in riding. We have the opportunity to share our experience with other riders, and in the process, make some people’s dreams of riding come true. This past season, riders who joined us covered collectively over 1,000,000 miles. I encourage you to join us on any one of our planned rides for the 2016 season. Please visit www.WindyCityMotorcycleTours.com for a complete list of our planned rides. Advertising Rates: On a more serious note with winter right around the corner, it is very important to make sure your motorcycle is stored properly. As Susan Rice stated; “If you want change, you have to make it. If we want progress we have to drive it.” That being said, it is obvious that change is inevitable. But it is how we change that defines us as a culture. So, let’s work together to drive change in a way that suits us and ensures that the lawmakers are always acting in our riders’ best interests. DuKane ABATE 3 www.abate-il.org/dukane November 2015 Volume 27 Issue 11 Events: Wally Elliott This year has gone by fast! Over the last few years we have managed to have many rides and shows that were very successful! I want to thank all of the volunteers who have pitched in to make our Chapter programs always worth attending. Many people have been stand outs and we could not run the Chapter in our programs without them. Every organization’s life blood is the volunteer base, the drive, the committeemen to make things go well. DuKane Chapter has had some good ones, they help year after year, event after event: I don’t have to mention names as these people know who they are and the rest, you see them at every event working! It’s been fun it’s been a challenge, but it’s great to see the end results. I believe that the DuKane Chapter has set the bar high. The years started with a Comedy Show: one most show clubs would be proud of. The Kneeze in the Breeze Run always a fun destination and quite a ride! The Bikini Bike Wash is a street party where we have gathering for an afternoon of fun and camaraderie while getting the bikes clean by a great group of volunteers. The dream of a Women’s Run has grown and developed as a very prominent ride each August. Then our Annual Toy & Food Run: an event which has become a statement to all of Illinois about what the DuKane Chapter and ABATE in the NE Region of Illinois is all about: A Ride, A Festival, A Statement! Taking care of many charities, telling the community all about Motorcycle Rights, Safety and Education! Carry on DuKane Chapter… Enjoy the upcoming Holiday Season. Thank you Volunteers & participants for your work and dedication. Wally Elliott 630-247-2894 DuKane ABATE 4 www.abate-il.org/dukane November 2015 Volume 26 Issue 11 Membership Oops!
