the Guide - Sundance Chamber of Commerce
WELCOME TO SUNDANCE! N estled at the base of Sundance Mountain, where Native American tribes once sun-danced, lies our historic and beautiful town. Steeped in western lore and the rugged charm of the “Old West”, Sundance, where “The Kid” got his name, offers a wide variety of sights and activities for the whole family. Located between Devils Tower and Deadwood, and close to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument, it is the perfect place to be based for your vacation. The Sundance area offers some fine restaurants, relaxing bars, motels, resorts and RV parks. Once you’ve settled in, start enjoying the sights and activities available in our area and pause for a photo op at the town square with the statue of “The Kid”. The Bear Lodge Mountains are our backyard and for nature lovers and outdoors types there are many attractions. There are miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback trails, lake and blue ribbon stream fishing, hunting and in the winter, cross country skiing, groomed snowmobile trails, snowshoeing and fat tire biking. Don’t forget to visit our free museum, the galleries, the Vore Buffalo Jump (15 minutes east of town) and our golf course, where there is never a bad view. We are quickly becoming a festivals and events community and have long hosted “Burn Out Wednesday” during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August. Our Beer Fest and Winter Festival are both extremely popular newer events. Check the Special Events Calendar pages for further listings of activities. Come and enjoy your stay! Our friendly folks will make you feel welcome in our western mountain town. Steve Lenz, President THE SUNDANCE KID HAS A SEAT SAVED FOR YOU. Sundance is in a scenic region of northeast Wyoming and boasts a quiet, rural lifestyle coupled with world class outdoor recreation activities and quaint shopping. Sundance is named after a Native American ceremony held on Sundance Mountain called the Sun Dance. Sundance is the county seat of Crook County, Wyoming.
