Principal’s Message
Greetings Meadowbrook Middle School Family,
I am Johnny Nash, the proud principal of Meadowbrook
Middle School. As the new principal, it is my goal to maintain
the high academic standards currently in place and prepare
our students to compete on a global scale. I strongly believe in
the quote “It takes a village to raise a child.” I will use this
principle to maintain a positive environment for both students
and staff and bridge the gap between the school and community.
I also want to have ongoing collaborative discussions with my
peers and community members regarding student achievement.
I am also dedicated to high ideals for student development and
committed to making a difference through service and modeling
positive behavior. I have an obligation to do everything in my power to help students create and achieve
their dreams; just as so many have done for me. Thank you for allowing us to serve your children!!
Sincerely,
Johnny Nash, Principal

Mustangs Make Strides Against Breast Cancer
On Saturday, October 23rd, 13 Mustangs faculty and staff represented their friends and loved ones who have
battled cancer in the American Cancer Society’s annual “Making Strides for Breast Cancer” walk. The team,
dubbed “Mustangs for Life,” raised over $80 for the charity in the three mile walk which took place at 7 am at
Lake Eola in downtown Orlando. The participants were: Leah “The Accelerator” Williams, Jacinta “Jaguar”
Tibbs, Andreaus ” ASAP” Williams, LaTanya “Wildfire” Wilson, Sonya “Supersonic” Rackard, Towanna
“Lynx” Love, Naomi “Breakneck” Dorsett, Sara “Storm” Johnson, Kyra “Swift” Soriano-Ridgeway, Erika
“Express ” Bynes, Taqueasia “ Hypersonic” Hall, LaTanya “The Swarm” Strickland (Eagles Nest Elementary),
and Joseph “Dash” Dancy.
This wasn’t the group’s first time to join the fight against cancer. Last year the Mustangs for Life team raised
$100 to the Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk.
Medication
If your child is taking medication that must
be administered at school, you must personally
bring it to the clinic. You will be provided with
authorization forms and receive assistance in
completing them. All medication must be in the
original container and have a label affixed by the
physician or pharmacy that shows the child’s name,
dosage, and the schedule for administration.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. To schedule a conference,

Teach-In 2010
Teach-In 2010 was held on Wednesday,
November 17th in Orange County Public Schools.
Each November, in celebration of American
Education Week, the Foundation for Orange
County Public Schools brings business and civic
leaders into the classrooms – in a fun and engaging
way -- to talk with students about academics,
careers and the future.
Teach-In is made possible by the generous
support of Bank of America and the Orlando
Sentinel newspaper, who provide financial and
in-kind support for the program.
According to the FOCPS, since the Teach-In
establishment in 1991, it has brought thousands
of volunteer speakers into classrooms each year.
This personal interaction has proven to be an
invaluable learning opportunity for students and,
for business people, a way to help prepare and
nurture the future workforce.
In the past Meadowbrook students have
enjoyed hearing from representatives from Bank
of America, State of Florida, Junior Achievement,
The City of Orlando, CPI Graphics, The African
American Chamber of Commerce, FAMU Law
School, AXA Financial Services, 102 Jamz, WCPX
Channel 6, Walt Disney World, Sea World, and
Universal Studios along with many community
leaders, local entrepreneurs’ and dedicated parents
who have participated in the event.
2010-11 SAFE Ambassadors
Twenty-five students have been selected as the
2010-11 SAFE Ambassadors. According to OCPS,
SAFE Ambassadors are “groups of approximately
30-40 who are trained at both elementary and
secondary schools in serving as change agents for
their campuses, promoting a safe and drug-free
school campus.” Training components include
effective communication, conflict resolution,
understanding bystander behavior and bullying and
harassment prevention strategies.
