Design is back this fall with PARIS DESIGN WEEK With an extra day, a programme that coordinates with the MAISON&OBJET Paris professional show and ‘sharing’ as a new theme, the fourth annual PARIS DESIGN WEEK is a date that should be marked on everyone’s fall calendar. For eight days, Paris becomes the world capital of design Scheduled for Saturday, 6th September, through Saturday, September 13th, the latest edition of PARIS DESIGN WEEK, in synergy with MAISON&OBJET PARIS, is extended by one day to give as many people as possible the chance to discover and celebrate the latest in design and creation. This fiercely free and open-to-all event has a superb line-up in store: • pop-up scenographies and events in more than 200 Paris venues; • the work of 100 emerging designers from 15 countries presented on the stage of now! le Off at Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design; • parties and evening events in the showrooms and participating venues in Saint-Germain-des-Prés (Friday 5th), Le Marais (Saturday 6th), Étoile-Opéra (Monday 8th) and Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design (Thursday 11th); • an unprecedented panorama of international design in Paris and new partnerships with Design Weeks in Berlin, Tokyo, Mexico, Singapore, and elsewhere. ‘Sharing’ in the spotlight Sharing is this year’s theme, celebrating the event’s founding values. PARIS DESIGN WEEK is now, more than ever, a bridge between the world of professionals and the general public. The event stands firm in its goal of making design more accessible, steering clear of intellectualism and preconceived notions, while enhancing the international reputation of Parisian creativity. This is where names like Well Well Designer, Different and Different and Pierre Guillou – who can now been seen in now! design à vivre – were first spotted. Held at Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design, this completely free event supports the selection of a hundred emerging talents from 15 countries. Competing for France’s 2014 RADO STAR PRIZE, they display designs that are often freely available for production. Furniture and accessories, industry and crafts, textiles and lighting, but also mobility and personal services are expressed in these items, which cover all design fields and serve as proof of a cutting-edge future. Free admission. Open 6 to 13 September. # Rado Star Prize: the challenge is now Swiss watch brand Rado joins PARIS DESIGN WEEK to give out two awards: France’s 2014 RADO STAR PRIZE (Jury’s Prize) and France’s 2014 RADIO STAR PRIZE (Public’s Prize). The Jury’s Prize, a springboard for international visibility with a prize purse of €5,000 to support creative endeavours, is awarded by a panel of professional judges chaired by Philippe Nigro (now! design à vivre Designer of the Year). It recognises the project presented at now! le Off that best embodies the theme of sharing. Ten projects are also selected by the same panel of judges to be voted on for the Public’s Prize,announced on www.radostarprize.fr from 15 July to 10 September 2014. Both prizes will be awarded during the now! le Off evening, on Thursday, 11th September. In the Bastille showroom, the ISAMU NOGUCHI retrospective presents the exceptional history of the AKARI collection, which features over 100 lamps designed between 1951 and 1986. ARTEUM WITH MAURIZIO GALANTE AND TAL LANCMAN Meet designers Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman and discuss their creative works at a design-focused cocktail gathering. They present a variety of designs set in singular scenographies. BRIN DE FANTAISIE The Carrousel store celebrates PARIS DESIGN WEEK with the brand OPEX, as the label presents its new Fall/Winter 2014/2015 collection, inspired by the lightness, delicacy and depth of classical and contemporary dance. PYLÔNES Pylônes presents a variety of articles, all with the theme ‘la fabrique de couleur’ (the colour factory). SWATCH STORE Swatch celebrates PARIS DESIGN WEEK through a poetic collaboration with contemporary artist Alexander Gorlizki, a chance to also see the new Swatch Art Special: Sliding Doors. MATCH FRANCE ITALIE For the second year in a row, the French Design Federation takes over the inverted pyramid of the Carrousel du Louvre and invites the Italian Design Federation to a ceramics showdown. Enjoy a tea-time experience and discover the Japanese art of tea through a demonstration of traditions handed down from father to son. Y’s - Yohji Yamamoto Louvre NEW 25, rue du Louvre, 75001 Paris Designer Yohji Yamamoto’s Y’s stores present the Urban Nomads installation during PARIS DESIGN WEEK. The display, created by designer Torsten Neeland, features ordinary objects that are simple yet sophisticated, a change of pace from our technology-immersed society. Le 104 NEW 5, rue Curial, 75019 Paris Le 104 springs into action for PARIS DESIGN WEEK with a focus on African design: an exhibition by José Manuel Gonçalves on the work of African designer Ousman Mbaye, paralleling a presentation by matali crasset at La Maison des Petits, which she designed.
