Prickly Pear Ave in Benson. Friday’s activities included a Tattoo Contest and of course browsing the vendors. There were more than 25 vendors, offering lots of biker gear, jewelry, toys, vitamins, knives, sun glasses, clothing, & flags. Plus there was a swap meet. Food vendors brought BBQ, kettle corn, and great Mexican food by Taco Peppe. The Bike Show had about 40 entries in 15 classes. Law Tigers was the major sponsor of the trophies. The band ‘Pocket Change’ took to the stage for a night of music & dancing. CMA {Christian Motorcyclists Association} had breakfast available in the camping area both mornings. Saturday is the busiest day, with the Have-A-Clue Ride taking off in the morning. As always, there are checkpoints in Tombstone so riders can spend some time at the Helldorado festivities. This year’s stops were at Johnny Ringo’s & Dragoon Saloon in Tombstone, Sierra Vista Harley-Davidson, Buddy’s Bar in Huachuca City, & Mescal Bar & Grill in Benson before returning to the Arena. Back at the Arena, Saturday afternoon’s music was presented by DJ Mata, who was spinning tunes & hosting karaoke. There were Little Biker Games for the kids. About 12 kids participated in musical chairs, ring toss, pony race, pickle spit, & hula hoop games. For adults who chose to stay in camp, they could trade their ‘Have a Clue’ ride card for a poker hand. All cards were due in by 2:30 & the rodeo games began. The Grownup Biker Games included the weenie bite, slow race, shoot the hog, water race, keg push, & barrel race. SuziQ described participation as “Good considering we had some rain and it was muddy.” As the games wrapped up, the Charity Auction got underway. There are always some great finds up for bid, and all for a good cause. Saturday night’s band was ‘Restless’. They have a good playlist and it was a fun time. AZ Rider Motorcycle News CMA sponsored Biker Church on Sunday morning in the camping area. Then it was time to start packing up for the ride home. The Southern AZ Harley Riders MC thanks their sponsors: Arena Bar, Budweiser, Dunn Insurance, Law Tigers, SSVEC, Buddy’s Bar, Dragoon Saloon, Mescal Bar & Grill, Sierra Vista Harley-Davidson, uptown 3 Theater, MVP Awards, Kanmar Construction, Dadd’s Upholstery, Olive Garden, Bianca Myers Photography, Morning Star Café, Reb’s Café, Fast Tax, Farmers Insurance, Family Vision Care, Chosin Cycles & Firearms, Clint’s Hair, Elgin Winery, Sun Canyon Jeweler, High Country Guns & Ammo, All-Pro Pest Control, Barnett’s Towing, Rutherford Development, Spur Western Wear, and the Christian Motorcyclist Association. I learned from SuziQ that about 800 people came out to ride, play, and party at the 2015 Rodeo. The Southern Arizona Harley Riders MC supports numerous charities in their area through the monies raised at this event. Those charities include Verhelst Recovery House in Bisbee, High School Scholarships for college, various Veterans charities, the Cancer Society ‘Relay for Life’, Benson’s Food Pantry, and many more throughout the year. SAHR MC has been a positive member of the Southern AZ community since the club’s establishment in 1984. It’s great to be able to support an organization that does so much for their community, which in turn shines a brighter light on the motorcycling community as a whole. Thank you for your good works. Why share this story now, you might be asking? Well, that’s to give you an idea of how much fun YOU can have about a month from now when YOU make your plans to attend the 22nd annual Biker Rodeo, being held October 21-23 at the Arena Bar in Benson. $15/pp gets you in, a place to camp, a ride card, and much more. This year’s bands will be ‘Rowdy Johnson’ & ‘Pocket Change’. Gates open Friday afternoon at noon. This is such a great group of people and we’ve always had a fun time. Thank you, SuziQ, SAHRMC Secretary/Treasurer, for your help with this story. Betsy September 2016 HOME MPP ~ United, Bikers Have the Power to Sway Elections AZ Rider Published on August 23rd, 2016 by David “Double D” Devereaux Reprinted with permission from Motorcycle Profiling Project http://www.motorcycleprofilingproject.com 8.6 Million Motorcyclists Vote. Holding the Power To Sway Elections As we approach national elections in November, why is the opinion of the motorcycling community so important? The answer is simple. Motorcyclists represent a massive and powerful voting block with the ability to sway national elections. The vast majority of this demographic are registered and active voters. According to the National Motorcycle Profiling Survey 2015-16 (NMPS), 86% of motorcyclists have voted in a national election within the last 10 years. The American Motorcycle Association estimates that there are 10,000,000 registered motorcyclists in America. That means motorcyclists comprise nearly 7% of the active voting population. Many elections are decided by a smaller margin, including the 2012 presidential election. Elected officials would be wise to take note that issues of discrimination and profiling are among motorcyclists greatest concerns. 86% of Motorcyclists (8.6 Million) Vote The NMPS shows that the vast majority of motorcyclists are active voters and participate in US elections. According to Creative Research Systems, the NMPS, with 5,000 participants, has a 99% reliability rating and a margin of error of 1.4%. There is a 99% chance that the survey results translate to the entire target population with a 1.4% margin of error. 86% of 10,000,000 registered motorcyclists in America is 8.6 million motorcyclists that are active voters in the United States. Motorcyclists Comprise 7% of Active Voters, Enough To Sway Elections According to The Center for the Study of the American Electorate, 127,000,000 individuals voted in the national elections in 2012. Using the last national election as a benchmark, 8.6 million voters represents almost 7% of the active voting population. And 7% is large enough to impact the outcome of many national elections. Consider the last race for President. Obama received about 5 million more votes than Romney. Motorcyclists could cover that difference with 3.5 million votes to spare. In addition to the presidential race, a total of 469 seats in the U.S. Congress (34 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election on November 8, 2016. A total of 1,210 (61.4%) of the country’s 1,972 state senate seats and 4,710 (87.0%) of the country’s 5,411 state house seats are up for a vote as well. Altogether, 5,920 (80.2%) of the country’s 7,383 state legislative seats are up for election during the presidential election year. Motorcyclists can have a dramatic impact on the upcoming election. And elected officials can help secure the motorcycle vote by listening and responding to the legislative demands of the community. What Issues Do Motorcyclists Care About? Aside from traditional issues like safety and helmet choice, the NMPS 2015-16 suggests that most motorcyclists are very concerned with police accountability, discrimination and profiling. 50% of motorcyclists surveyed have been unjustifiably stopped while riding their motorcycles, which translates to 5 million Americans. Legislative demands being made by motorcycle rights organizations echo these findings. Many states are following Washington and Maryland’s lead, the only states with laws addressing the issue, pursuing legislation at the state level. There is also a national coalition of motorcycle organizations that have secured sponsorship for H. Res. 831, which calls for states to implement anti-motorcycle profiling laws. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation, in cooperation with the MPP, the National Council of Clubs, and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists are all working together to secure protection for motorcyclists at the state and federal level. Conclusions If politicians realized the impact motorcyclists had on elections in the U.S., then policies protecting motorcyclists would materialize more rapidly. The Center for the Study of the American Electorate says only 57.5% of eligible voters turned out to vote in 2012. The 86% voter participation among motorcyclists is far higher than the general voting population. Res. 831 provides an opportunity for elected officials to prove they embrace civil liberties for motorcyclists and potentially earn 7% of the active vote in November. This election is also an opportunity for motorcyclists to ensure that politicians hear that one of our primary demands is legislation addressing the issue of motorcycle profiling. They work for the people. Let’s make sure they know what the people want. Service members need to enroll PROMPTLY and do it NOW by following these steps: • Obtain a copy of your service medical records prior to discharge. Do not take any shortcuts when separating and do this immediately. Any idea of hurrying to get home may cost you time and money should you require VA Healthcare at any time in the future. • A veteran has two years, after separation, to apply for medical conditions that are a result of their service in the military. After two years the process becomes more difficult. • If you require medical assistance from the VA after separation/discharge, bring with you a copy of your medical records, a copy of your DD214, and two forms of picture identification. • Any injury or illness incurred while serving on active duty as a regular, reservist, or Federalized member of the National Guard needs to be noted in your medical records. • Enroll in the VA IMMEDIATELY. Do Not Procrastinate!! Know your rights and your responsibilities. If you are not sure, ASK-ASK-ASK-ASKASK!!! Ensure that your transition is smooth. Know what you need to do, and DO IT! • Join a veterans service organization - American Legion, DAV, Rolling Thunder®, VFW, AMVETS, Marine Corps League, Alliance of Marine Corps Veterans, etc. IT’S YOUR DUTY TO DO SO! “WELCOME HOME, CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE, AND GOOD LUCK” Michael DePaulo, COM National Parliamentarian, Rolling Thunder®, Inc. Hello AriZona Riders! Hey ~ what a great way to celebrate our Anniversary! We’re so full of good stuff to share with you that we have very little room here to expound. Eight of our current Advertisers have been with us for 10 years or more. Notable are Chandler Custom Cycles; as Harold has been with us since we started in 1999 and Law Tigers ~ which has been with us for more than 15 years. Looks like we’ve got room for one more shout out … During our annual summer visit to Casa de Tush we picked up some sort of road hazard along Old Route 66 that damaged our oil filter; creating a leak and stopping all forward motion until the problem got fixed. Thanks to White Mountain Performance in Show Low we were able to get everything we needed for Bruce to get us back on the road. Ride safely, choose wisely, & Keep Your Butts On Your Putts! It can be intimidating to think that you might be in a situation where you are the only person who can help a victim until EMTs arrive. On the surface, we all like to think we would instinctively know what to do to help. But when the shit hits the fan … Would you? Wanting to help is good. Knowing how to help is better. That’s what Trauma Mama, Registered Nurse Teresa McClelland, teaches in this daylong seminar. She is an ER Trauma Nurse with 24+ years of experience. She’s been teaching Accident Scene Management for 10 years. She’s been training Trauma Nurses and EMTs for 17 years; including skills specific to motorcycle accident scenes. She is also the State Safety Officer for ABATE of Arizona. She’s been riding for 33 years. She emphasizes that it doesn’t matter how much riding experience you have, something can happen. She encourages everyone to ‘Dress For The Slide’; referencing the riders we’ve all seen out there ... on their bikes wearing shorts, sandals, & nothing to protect them from the road. The seminar we attended was the Basic curriculum, held on Sunday August 14 at the Breyer Law Office in Phoenix. Teresa’s teaching team included Assistant Instructor Ben Martinez and EMT Scott Runde, an ASM Instructor Trainee. Often, the first people to be on the scene of a motorcycle wreck are fellow motorcyclists. The first 5-30 minutes after a crash are crucial; as you wait for EMTs to arrive. Having some idea ahead of time of do’s and don’ts can give the victim[s] a better chance of survival plus give you the confidence to do what can be done. The class was full, with 26 students. This is a good number to allow everyone the best access to the material in the given time. There was a wide range of ages. Some were representatives of their riding organizations… who will then take information back to share with their larger groups. Others were medical personnel, as part of their continuing education. Others were simply individual riders who want to be prepared in case of an emergency. This class teaches what is called ‘Bystander Level Assistance’… techniques that people without a medical background can use. As the flyer states, this is more than just ‘First Aid’. You are learning how to safely assist victims without adding to any injuries they might have; plus methods to ensure that rescuers stay safe as well. One of the first topics discussed was a presentation by Mark Breyer about the Good Samaritan Law. One of the biggest reasons that people don’t help at an accident scene is that they are afraid they’ll get sued. He broke the Law down by its elements to explain and disperse those concerns. But this isn’t just a student – teacher lecture. There are hands-on exercises to go through. Each person gets the opportunity to go through the exercises / topics being discussed. I’m not afraid to admit, starting off ~ the Hands-On exercises took me through some emotional reactions… The classroom setting can become a real-life scenario in your mind. WHAT IF…??? But that’s something you also want to be mentally prepared for at a true emergency. A particular exercise that stood out for me was whether I could move someone out of danger if I had to. Being a shorter woman faced with mov- AZ Rider ing a larger man to safety, I was pretty amazed to see that with Teresa’s guidance I was able to do so. Other topics include securing the accident scene, assessing possible injuries so you can share that information with the 911 operator, assess the scene ~ determining whether or not to move the injured, proper helmet removal ~ when & how to do it, rescue breathing methods when spinal injury is of concern, addressing external vs internal bleeding, and more. There is far too much information offered in the class to go into specifics here. Leave it to say that it is a long & fulfilling day… one that everyone should make the time to attend. This is first-level training. Believe me, I know that I don’t know everything I need to know in an emergency. But this class is the first important step toward being more able to help if you find yourself in such a situation. Thanks go out to class sponsor Breyer Law for the use of their space, and for your informational presentation. They also provided water, coffee, donuts, bagels, and lunch. Breyer Law is also a big sponsor of AMSAF {AZ Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Foundation}. The Accident Scene Management Course {ASM} is the #1 Rated Trauma Training Course in the Country. He had a bike, a car and I thought he had money! Here we are 52 years after that fateful day celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary! We both had a passion for motorcycles, which we had to put on hold for a while, while raising our family. As soon as we could we were back on two wheels. This time we were both on our own bikes! Over the past 30 years we have ridden side by side thousands of miles from Canada to Arizona. We rode east as far as Sturgis from Oregon 8 times. Each year we take at least 1-2 weeks just exploring new roads on our motorcycles. Back in May I had some surgery that’s kept me at home recovering for a while. The Doctor said I will not be riding until mid-November. You never miss something so much until someone says, “You can’t do that for a while.” When I saw Harry taking my motorcycle apart I was getting a little worried that maybe I may not be riding her again for a long time. He told me not to worry he was just going to get the paint touched up where it had rock chips from our road trips. One sunny afternoon Harry came in the house full of excitement. “Close your eyes and come with me” he said. “I want to show you your 50th Anniversary present!” There glistening in the sunshine was my “fun-size street glide” with a beautiful new paint AZ Rider job! He told the painter I liked ghost flames and tribal designs. This new paint job has smokey grey ghost flames with wicked tribal from front to rear. Tornado Sean is the painter in Yuma who brought my wishes to life. My bike is a real beauty! I now look forward to November to shine bright like a diamond on my new ride! For Harry’s anniversary gift I gave him another 25 years because I can’t wait to see what I get for our 75th anniversary! It will be Harry and Janice (The Braiding Lady) forever! True love begins in a moment, grows over time, and lasts for eternity. Author Unknown Music by Tribute Bands for : The Doors, Alice in Chains, Metallica AZ Rider Motorcycle News September 2016 HOME AZ Rider The Cabin’s Biker Bash For PFH The Cabin’s annual Biker Bash & Fundraiser took place over the weekend of July 22-24, 2016. This year’s beneficiary was Packages From Home. We were fortunate enough to be in the White Mountains during that time, so we stopped in on Saturday to see what was going on. It was a sizeable turnout, with about 150-200 bikes. There was a mix of organizations and independent riders. About 10 vendor booths were set up; including Discount Biker Supply, WolfSkin Tattoo from Phoenix, and Linda of Patch Works was stitching. You could pick up jewelry, tees, leather goods, head wraps, knives, lights, & more. The CMA {Christian Motorcyclists Association} had a very thoughtful collection of giveaways at their booth… travel-size sundries… soap, toothpaste, tissues, etc for camping or motel needs. And of course the beneficiary, Packages From Home, had an information booth. Among other things, we learned that it currently costs $17 each to ship these Packages. PFH Founder Kathleen Lewis was there. She’s a very interesting and passionate person to speak with. Part of the weekend’s activities was a Saturday morning poker ride, organized by Two Gals Events. The Hearts to Heroes in The Pines Poker Run was a self-paced, scenic loop that included Heber/Overgaard, Snowflake, and Show Low. Riders signed in at the Wild Women Saloon in Overgaard. Registration included a breakfast burrito bar. Stops included The Ranch House in Snowflake and The American Legion Post in Heber/Overgaard; with the last stop at The Cabin for lunch, and the rest of the Biker Bash activities. According to Amy Aho [☺gotta use that last name cuz she’s a newlywed ♥ ] from Two Gals, there were about 125 participants. High hand winner of the Poker Run was Dawnetta Williams. Her ace high straight earned her $100. Michele McKitty’s ‘handful of junk’ garnered her a $50 prize. Amy sends along thanks to the ride sponsors … “All of our Stops, Chuck Franklin Law, and especially the lovely Raynita the owner of The Cabin Bar & Grill!” She added that, “The cooler temps and the friendly folks of the North Country made for a lovely weekend!” Billy Ray of B Ray Entertainment was the afternoon’s dj. He did a good job of spinning the tunes and emcee’ing the games. CMA members organized the games in the back lot at the Cabin. They had the Plank Ride, Slow Race, Ring Toss, and Weenie Bite. There was good participation and the spectators had fun watching & cheering them on. The ‘Chance Auction’ offered a tableful of goods to bid on with your tickets; including collectibles, adult beverages, a variety of gift certificates, and a most unique birdhouse. Raynita extended, “A big thanks to Basin Satellite for the flat screen TV, Wild Woods for the Biker Bar Bird House, NAPA for the car wash basket, True Value for the Yeti Coozies, Mr. Earl’s Pizza Time for the Gift Certificate, and everyone else who donated prizes for our Raffle!” The 50/50 ended up at $446 to the winner. Congratulations are doubled to Mike… as he ALSO won the Friday night 50/50 of $97! He’s quite the lucky fellow! Music by ‘Thunder Horse Band ‘ carried the party on into the night. They played both nights and did “an awesome job.” click the title online for more photos 13 We learned from Raynita that the donation to Packages from Home was about $3000. She noted that, “This Rally was the most successful we’ve had in the last few years.” From the Packages From Home website http://packagesfromhome.org/ “The mission of Packages From Home is to send care and comfort packages to deployed American military heroes who are stationed in active duty theaters around the world, as well as to facilitate activities that elevate morale of all veterans.” The website includes a list of items to donate that are most requested. Plus cash donations are always welcome, to cover the cost of shipping these Packages. The Packages From Home organization does so much for so many of our GIs and Veterans. Your donations make it all possible. Donations can also be made via your Fry’s grocery VIP card and at Amazon Smile. We are so glad we could visit this event! It was a great time filled with beautiful riding, laughter, fun, good conversations, and knowing it was all for an excellent cause. Riders we spoke with the next morning commented that they would be coming back next year. Sounds like a good plan! Bruce & Betsy The Cabin Bar & Grill will be hosting its annual Halloween Party Saturday night October 29. This is the last party before they close for the winter. They take in and care for abused and neglected animals such as horses, goats, sheep, llamas, burros, mules, cattle, and more. Once the animals are brought back to health, they find them loving and caring homes. But in January of this year it all came crashing down and the Rescue itself was at risk of being closed. Unlike the city, this area has no public water. After 14 years of hauling all their water needs, they lost their water source. ABC News 15’s Lauren Vargas literally came to the Rescue, did a few video clips, aired them on January 14th, and the donations came rolling in. A miracle was happening in front of everyone’s eyes. ABC’s viewers raised just over $20,000, plenty of money for a 300 or even a 400 foot well. But Murphy’s Law, there was no water at 400 ft. In fact, they had to drill 788 feet. The good news is, there is now plenty of water! But although Brown Drilling, Kingman True Value, and Prosser Pump Service gave the rescue very good rates, it took up all the money they had. There is now water to the surface, but not yet to the rescue and animals. That’s where this drawing for the Custom Harley Davidson comes in. When it’s all done and 300 tickets are in the bowl, the Rescue will have enough to both plumb the Rescue and to build the Special Needs Kids the Rest Room Facility they deserve. To get in on this you just have to make a $100 donation to the Rescue. They will assign you a ticket. You can get as many chances to win as you want. The bike began as a 2002 Harley Davidson Softail. It was built and featured in American Iron magazine. It now is powered by a 121” TP Engineering engine with a Baker 5 speed RSD [right side drive] tranny. It cost $43,000 to build and has less than 5000 miles on it. For more specs, go to gofundme.com/uftgducc and scroll down for the SGRR story and a list of all the details on the bike down to the tires. The winning ticket will be drawn live, on the air, during the morning show of 100.1 FM radio on January 2nd 2017; or when all 300 tickets are sold, whichever comes first. Winner must be at least 21 years old. At the time of picking up the prize, winner will have the choice of the Bike or a Check for a cash prize of $5,000. Tickets are available in several locations including the radio station in Kingman AZ. Or you can go online to gofundme.com/uftgducc and simply scroll down and read all about it and more. On a personal note, I will pray for each and every one of you that steps up to help this Rescue and all its animals. The Rescue is also always looking AZ Rider for volunteers. Atrazine is a dangerous endocrine-disrupting weed killer. More than 60 million pounds of it are sprayed on American crops each year - second only to Monsanto’s glyphosate [the active ingredient in Roundup]. Europe recently banned Atrazine. It is banned in Switzerland ~ the country where the company Syngenta manufactures it! There are efforts underway to have atrazine banned in the USA and YOU can help. From the Food Revolution Network… The U.S. EPA recently released an official report voicing concerns over the many ecological risks of atrazine. A 2016 EPA report confirmed what some scientists have been warning for years: the weed killer atrazine likely poses a risk to many animal species. Now the EPA has opened up a comment period – between now and October 4 – as it conducts a fresh review of this dangerous pesticide. Atrazine is so potent that male frogs exposed to low levels of it can turn into female frogs - producing perfectly viable eggs. It’s been linked to breast tumors, delayed puberty, and prostate inflammation in animals, and to prostate cancer in people. Yet this chemical is being widely-used on American corn fields – and it’s regularly found to be contaminating drinking water supplies. Professor Tyrone Hayes, PhD at Berkeley’s Dept of Integrative Biology, has done extensive research on atrazine. From his website, www.atrazinelovers.com, we learned that atrazine exposure is associated with reduced fertility in humans. It inhibits production of testosterone (the male sex hormone) and induces estrogen production (the female sex hormone). Atrazine can travel as far as 600 miles from where it was initially used. A 1/2MILLION pounds of atrazine fall upon the USA via rain and snow EVERY year! Atrazine remains in the groundwater even when it is not being applied to crops. It is persistent and slow to dissipate. France’s farmers stopped using it 15 years ago and there is still atrazine in their groundwater. So it will take a generation at least before our environment would be free of atrazine, once its use is banned. This contamination of the waterways and groundwater also negatively affect marine life; in both ocean and freshwater environments. Contamination starts at the microscopic level to poison the Run Calendar continues from pg 15 on web, click title above for more calendar entries and event details 10/8 BACA {Bikers Against Child Abuse} 8th annual Awareness Event at Desert Wind Harley-Davidson 922 S. This adults-only weekend is the only fundraiser for ABATE-AZ’s state operations & activities… including publishing the MasterLink, & supporting riders’ rights & education programs. You can be sure your money is benefiting motorcycling in AZ ~ all while having a GREAT time! Our route out of the East Valley toward the mountains takes us through the low desert. It’s such a pretty route headed to Mormon Lake Lodge that the enjoyment of this trip starts well before our arrival. As we gained altitude, just outside Strawberry, we started smelling pine. Wonderful! Once we arrived and got camp set up, it was all about saying hello to friends, meeting new people, scoping out the venue, & enjoying the beautiful setting. Our friends TheresaAnn & Mark had the HoggDoggs Campsite Café set up not too far away; giving campers more than just a place to eat but also somewhere to congregate & socialize. Great idea! The first official activity was the Poker Walk on Friday afternoon. It’s a great way to become familiar with Vendor Alley & check out the goods the numerous booths offer. The stops were at Scoops HD Deals, Toke Box, Renegade Classics Phoenix, Discount Biker Supply, & Macanudo Cigars. Winners received $75 for high hand & $25 for low hand. Vendors also included Law Tigers Bob, Grease Slinger Cycles, Big Biker Babes, Packages From Home, and WolfSkin Tattoo. There was a stitcher, a patch maker, jewelry, bicycles, knives, 81 support, tools, flags, collectibles, leather goods, & more. Both days games were well contested & had lots of participation. They were run by Don & Lisa Withey, TV Bob, Gimpy, Jeremy, Jack Batty, Jean, Clydeman, & Nolan. Thomas Bishop Automotive created the trophies. ‘Navy’ Mike Rudd emceed. Friday’s People Games included the Helmet Toss. Men’s class was a particularly close contest. Out of 26 entrants, it ended in the 4th round with Jeff Schops prevailing. In the Women’s division, 19 gals stepped to the line & Karen Gregory took the trophy with 3 buckets. The Plank Walk had 8 teams start. Team 4 was the winner: Nathan Riddle, Kenny & Shelby Jackson, & Brandy Jedrysek. Tug of War is always a favorite. The best match of this day was between the Wolfskin & Mixbreed MC teams. In the Women’s class, Team Girl Power won: Dawn West, Michelle Hill, Rhonda Wike, & Gynni Giebel. The winning Men’s team was Wolfskin & MMCycles: anchor Jubel Dean {RIP!} + Mr. GoodTimes, Mike Lyon, & Postal. Pole in the Hole started out with 14 teams & was won by Kim Davies & Kristina Womboldt. The Ms Too Broke For Sturgis Contest had 7 contestants. There were 3 judges. Each gal was asked a series of questions. Only one contestant got all the answers correct. Missi was crowned Ms Too Broke 2016. Runner up was Dorothy. Congrats to you both! Ms Too Broke receives a gift package with items from each of the vendors & during her reign travels to events promoting next year’s TBFS. Friday evening’s Tattoo Contest always offers some excellent ink to view. Charity was the coordinator. There were 31 contestants among the women alone. Winners included Dorothy’s Most Realistic image of her mother’s graduation photo & Amber’s Best Full Color owl. Best Single Color was won by Heather Atwood. Unfortunately, dark clouds bringing stormage were coming in strong about 7:30 & we needed to batten down our camp. So we missed the rest of the Contest. We found out that in the Men’s class Jubel won Most Realistic & Jim Page won Best Single Color. We didn’t catch who winner of Best Color was. Congratulations to you all. Wind & rain came in and the temp went down, bringing ‘see your breath’ chill. We made our way from camp to the Hogg Doggs Café, where a bunch of people were sitting out the storm under their canopies. Back up at the arena, the band Skarlett Fever & partiers were rockin’ as the storm rolled through. Saturday morning dawned clear & beautiful. The day would bring clouds, dark sky at times; but there was no more rain for the rest of the weekend. The Poker Run took riders up to Route 66; with stops in Williams at Cruisers Route 66 Café & at Roxies; + Grand Canyon HD on I-40 in Bellemont. Our walk through camp provided the opportunity to meet Tracy Marks, a rider from New Mexico. He rode in on his ’79 Hardtail Shovel, Roadent. It was a less-than-smooth trip, as his kicker broke along the way. His brother Scott tracked down the right part IN STOCK at Chandler Custom Cycles. PLUS when he got there to pick it up Harold & Rick set him up with the right TOOLS to get the repair done. Such an AWESOME shop! Later that day Tracy would win the Rat Bike trophy in the Bike Show. The Bike Show offered more than ‘park it & walk away’ viewing. Owners could tell the spectators a bit about their bikes, start ‘em up, & show them off. Comments were positive about this format; adding to the day’s entertainment. Jim Silk, Tim Zemnick, & Ron Davis ran the show. There was great participation, with 35 bikes in 8 categories. 171 votes were cast. Congratulations to the winners: American Custom = Mike Schneider, American Stock = Rhino, British Custom = Rob Lavoi, Metric Custom = Ron Newcomb, Rat = Tracy Marks, Trike = John DeBierd, Vintage = Mark Millon, Women’s = Melisa Robertson, and Best of Show = Tim Dezenstein. After the Bike Show was the Muskrat Memorial Most Fantastic Moustache & Beard Contest, sponsored by MonkeyButt Radio & TwoGals. The Bike Games got underway with the Slow Race. 33 pilots showed their skill. Winner was Wayne Slocum of High Country ABATE. 32 teams lined up for the Joust. Only 2 couples [Rob & Krista, Dee & Wayne} collected 6 of 6 rings to go to a 2nd round tie-breaker. The win went to Rob & Krista. 23 teams were in round 1 of the Ball Drop. 3 rounds of eliminations left 2 couples remaining, Read Riot Act vs Rob & Krista. After 3 more rounds & 3 height adjustments, they agreed to a tie. It was an excellent showing! The Weenie Bite was next up. 18 couples played. 4 couples got a piece of the weenie. Tamalyn & Gunner aka Read Riot Act were the winners. Congratulations! This was the first time Ben & Trauma Mama got to compete, as they are usually volunteering in the First Aid booth. Thanks to extra Volunteers they could get away for a bit. Many hands make light work☺ AND they got 2nd place! Very cool. When the bike games ended it was time for award announcements. ABATE-AZ President Jim Butsback also recognized ABATE’s Officers. He reminded everyone that this is an entirely Volunteer organization & extended thanks to the Too Broke Committee & volunteers. Poker Run winners were Lori Ann Gaunt’s High Hand with 4 Aces for the $200 prize & Jerry Statler’s Low Hand for $50. Then came the event that many look forward to, the Wet T-Shirt Contest. It was sponsored by Discount Biker Supply & Big Biker Babes. 15 women took to the stage. Rhino emceed & Nolan poured the water. There were naturals & store-boughts, all ages & sizes ~ pretty much something for most everyone to enjoy the view. Cell phone cameras were held high as the music played & the gals put themselves out there for your votes. Winner was chosen by audience response. Congratulations to the winner, Misti! The 50/50 drawing presented over $1800 to the winner! What a way to wrap the weekend! From there, the party carried on into the night with music by the Rhythm Dragons. Music was sponsored both nights by Chuck Franklin Law. Sunday is always a little bitter-sweet. It’s sad to see the weekend come to an end. CMA shared breakfast & coffee again [both mornings]; plus held a Worship Service. This organization feeds the bodies and the souls of the biker community ☺ From the organizers we learned there were 1350 sign-ins; including many non-ABATE members. Most arrived by Friday; with some Saturday arrivals. Well there you have it, another Too Broke in the books. So much to share ~ Too little space☺But this should show you that if you’ve never been you REALLY need to check it out for yourself! If you HAVE been before, you know what we mean {;o) Mark your calendars for June 8-11, 2017 for TBFS #26. We plan to be there & hope you will too.
