An information system is a set of people, data, procedures, hardware and software that work together to achieve the common goal of information management. Information management includes the tasks of gathering data; processing the data into reliable, accurate, and usable information; and distributing the information in a timely fashion for use in decision making, problem solving, and control. Information systems exist within organisations in commerce, industry and the public sector. Therefore, while it is primarily a computer science discipline, it involves an understanding of organisations, management, information and the information needs of organisations. Pathway Advanced Object-Oriented Programming International Foundation Programme Computer Networks Database Design Diploma Information Systems Design Advanced Diploma Internet Commerce Technology Bachelor Degree Project Software Project Management Post Graduate Diploma Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and Software Engineering (Top Up) Awarded by Oxford Brookes University Overview Module Titles This course combines some of the generality of the computer science course but with modules concerned with software engineering. Software engineering deals with the transformation of information into more complex forms. It does so through software systems – its final products consist of programmes and procedure implemented on a computer system. Advanced Object-Oriented Programming The applications of software are extremely diverse ranging from simple processing of well-defined data to complex computations and control of industrial production lines. Software engineering is thus a constructive approach to the development of software – an approach that is independent of the application of the software product itself. In addition, the FPS protects the students if the Informatics Academy fails to pay penalties or return fees to the student arising from judgments made against it by the Singapore courts. The Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) is applicable to ALL students, local and international (regardless of nationality and the type of passes, i.e. dependent’s pass, student’s pass, work permit etc). Informatics Academy has appointed Lonpac Insurance Bhd as our FPS insurance provider. The insurance coverage will be for the entire course fee and any course fees arising from an extension of the study period longer than the initially planned study period (if applicable). In addition, the student can request for a copy of the certificate from the School. 36 Administrative Details EduTrust Informatics Academy was awarded the prestigious 4-year EduTrust Certification by the Council for Private Education (CPE), a statutory board under the Singapore Ministry of Education. CPE has mandated that students who opt out must produce their medical insurance policy for verification by the school. However, if Singaporean and Permanent Resident students wish to opt-in for medical insurance, their Insurance Premium will be subjected to underwriting by the Insurance Company. The fee payable for the entire duration of the course is indicated in the fee schedule of the PEIStudent Contract.
