dunes of Sossusvlei, the moon-like landscape of Dead Vlei and the surprising variety of wildlife of the Namib Desert.
Kulala Desert Lodge, Namibia
As the perfect gateway to the iconic sights of Sossusvlei, Kulala Desert Lodge is a favourite among Wilderness travellers.
Magnificent views of the famous dunes, surrounding mountains and vast open plains will be the setting during your
stay. The camp comprises 23 en-suite thatched and canvas ‘kulalas’ and a veranda for you to enjoy the outstanding
scenery. On balmy nights, sleep under the clear night skies on your rooftop and awaken to the rising sun. By day, enjoy
our activities or spot desert-adapted wildlife from our lounge and dining area overlooking a waterhole. To escape the
midday heat a cooling plunge pool provides the ideal sanctuary.

Kulala Desert Lodge is in the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, the result of a rehabilitation project by
Wilderness that aimed to return this land, previously used for farming, to its former natural aspect.
•
Sossusvlei is situated within the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, characterised by huge dunes and
flat valley floors.
•
To showcase such vast and impressive landscape, we offer game drives, walking, quad biking, horse riding and
ballooning (depending on the package chosen, some of these activities may not be included in the cost, and
would be at an additional charge).
•
You can witness sparsely distributed desert-adapted wildlife such as ostrich, springbok, oryx, spotted and brown
hyaena, and bat-eared fox.
•
One of the many fascinating bird species, the Dune Lark, has its entire global distribution limited to the area.

Namib Desert - Swakopmund
[B]
Transfer by road, taking in spectacular scenery to Swakopmund, a picturesque town with an eclectic mix of European
and African culture.
Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment, Namibia
Enclosed by the ever-changing restless movement of the dunes of the Namib Desert on the east and the pounding
waves and beaches of the Atlantic Ocean to the west, lies the historic town of Swakopmund, gateway to the Skeleton
Coast. Our resort offers you the perfect balance between a charming, old-world tradition with the thrill and excitement
of modern day entertainment. You will revel in this area be it at the casino and entertainment centre; dune boarding
down our magical dunes; exploring the region by quad bike; playing golf at the nearby desert course; watching the
dolphins and flamingos of Walvis Bay; or having a romantic banquet in the desert. For the more sedate a spa treatment
or relaxing at the pool offers the escape you may need that is today so rarely achieved.

19 May
Swakopmund
[B]
Today you will be collected from Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment and taken on a half day Namib Desert tour.
Highlights

Learn about the fascinating Namib Desert.

Be exposed to spectacular and bizarre rock formations of the area.

See the interesting flora of the desert and perhaps catch a glimpse of unique desert-adapted fauna.
Description
At first glance it seems impossible that this arid desert can support life, yet it holds some of the richest lichen fields in
the world and these lichens take on deeply coloured hues in the morning light. We depart Swakopmund at either 09h00
or 13h00 to return at either 13h00 or 18h00 respectively. We travel to the moon-like landscape, where soft overlaying
levels of earth, deposited some million years ago, were eroded to create this eerie crater-filled area. In 1859, a botanist
searching the Namib Desert found what he later described “as the world’s strangest plant”. This trip goes in search of
these “living fossils:” the Welwitschia mirabilis, a botanical curiosity endemic to the Namib Desert and one of the most
bizarre and intriguing plants on earth.
Continue on a crayfish lunch and Town tour (including transfers).
Highlights

Enjoy some Namibian-caught crayfish and other seafood delicacies with the beach right in front of you.

Get acquainted with the historical town of Swakopmund on a tour through the palm tree-lined streets.
Description
This mouth-watering seated lunch gives a real flavour for the delicacies of coastal Namibia. After satisfying our taste
buds, we depart on a tour of Swakopmund, a quaint German-style town. Swakopmund is rich in culture and historical
buildings.
After the Crayfish lunch and Swakopmund Tour you will continue and enjoy quad biking on the dunes.
Drop off at Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment.

Swakopmund – Doro Nawas
[BLD]
Scheduled road transfer from Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment to Doro Nawas. Doro Nawas Camp is situated in the
ruggedly beautiful Damaraland area, on a small, rocky outcrop within the floodplain of a small tributary of the Huab
River. This exciting new destination is a joint venture between Namibian investors, the local Doro Nawas community
and Wilderness Safaris.
Doro Nawas, Namibia
Resting on the slopes of a small hill in the dry Aba-Huab River valley, Doro Nawas Camp has panoramic views of the
rugged Etendeka Mountains interspersed with valleys and sandstone cliffs. As a guest of Doro Nawas, you will be
housed in one of 16 natural walled units, all well placed for you to take in the dramatic surrounds. Each unit, with ensuite facilities, has a veranda for stargazing and sleep-outs. As part of the main area there are indoor and outdoor dining
areas as well as a pool and stargazing deck.
Did you know?
•
Doro Nawas Camp and the local community are partners in a joint venture that is a shining example of modern
community-based ecotourism.

The landscape ranges from boulder-strewn floodplains and rock formations to canyons and dry riverbeds, all
transformed in times of rain to colour carpets of vegetation.
•
Day and night game drives, guided walks (on request) and cultural visits, including Twyfelfontein – Africa’s
largest collection of petroglyphs – make up your activities.
•
A healthy population of the unique desert-adapted elephant is a special highlight as well as oryx, kudu,
springbok, steenbok and occasionally rare desert-adapted black rhino. Carnivores include brown hyaena, bateared fox and black-backed jackal.

Day 9&10:
22&23 May
Doro Nawas – Skeleton Coast
[BLD]
Fly to Hoanib, Skeleton Coast, in the enormous Palmwag Concession. Few places on the planet can offer this level of
privacy and wilderness experience.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast
Hoanib Skeleton Coast is located on the Hoanib River in the northern part of the private Palmwag Concession. Its
location thus straddles the Palmwag area and Skeleton Coast National Park, in one of the most remote areas of the
Kaokoveld. Exclusivity is taken a step further as the camp comprises only seven twin-bedded tents and one family unit.
The camp looks out over stunning yet rugged scenery and offers you all the luxuries and amenities needed for an
unforgettable stay. A bewitching and splendid part of the planet, you can unravel the enigmatic history of the original
Strandlopers (Beachcombers), their stone circles lying in hidden valleys, studying the ancient Welwitschia plant, viewing
the herds of desert-adapted wildlife, to savouring the endless landscapes unfolding - untouched - for hundreds of
kilometres.
Did you know?
•
The area has a historic coastline, mountains, vast plains, and dry riverbeds inhabited by incredible desertadapted plant and animal life.
•
Despite the arid environs, great concentrations of desert-adapted elephant and lion can be found along with
sightings of giraffe, antelope, black rhino, leopard and cheetah.
•
Activities include cultural experiences, nature walks, game drives, dune drives, use of hides, exploratory day
excursions with picnic lunches and coastal visits.
•
Set in one of the most fragile ecosystems in the world, the camp is eco-friendly and has minimal impact on the
environment. Furthermore an in-house training programme ensures that the local communities are empowered
and able to contribute to sustainable development of their areas.
Day 11:

Skeleton Coast – Andersson’s Camp
[BLD]
Transfer by light Aircraft to Andersson’s Camp in the private Ongava Game Reserve on the boundary of Etosha National
Park, the highest density wildlife area within Namibia. In the former and the latter, we experience the pinnacle of game
viewing.

All meals, park fees, scheduled activities (game drives on the Ongava Reserve are NOT included. Subject
to the availability of vehicles and guides, activities include morning and/or afternoon game drives in Etosha National
Park, guided nature walks and night drives (on request) on the Ongava Reserve, however, they cannot be guaranteed. If
available, these will be offered and sold direct in camp to guests at additional cost), bed levy, laundry, local drinks and
house wine (excluding premier brands and selected wines).
Located on the boundary of the world renowned Etosha National Park, Andersson’s Camp is the perfect point from
which to explore the diversity of fauna and flora in this region. Formerly an old farmstead, the camp is nestled in
mopane scrub with the scenic backdrop of the low Ondundozonanandana mountain range and is an exciting example of
sustainable construction. Each of the 20 tents is raised on decks for enhanced views of the passing game, while the main
area overlooks a productive waterhole. Activities offered are morning and/or afternoon game drives in Etosha National
Park, guided nature walks and night drives (on request) on the Ongava Reserve.

Day 12:
Etosha National Park takes its name from the world-famous Etosha Pan, one of the largest saltpans in the
region. Around the pan, the topography ranges from broad swathes of mopane and tall tree canopies of
woodland to open plains and dolomite hills.
This charming eco-sensitive camp is named after Swedish Explorer Charles Andersson – one of the first
Europeans to ‘discover’ Etosha.
Ongava Game Reserve was formed in 1991, when its shareholders converted four unproductive cattle ranches
into a highly productive reserve, and is now home to large concentrations of wildlife, including one of the
largest black and white rhino populations in Namibia thanks to a successful reintroduction programme.
Bird life is prolific with 340 species recorded.
