WELCOME TO KHUDIRAM BOSE CENTRAL COLLEGE
Principal s Address
Dr. Subir Kumar Dutta
Principal
Khudiram Bose Central College (Earlier Central College) has completed 121 years of its existence. This is indeed a special
occasion in the long span of an institution that began its career in the last decade of 19th century and is now striving to reach
new heights in this era of globalization, which allows existence of private institutions besides government or semi
government institutions. The college since its inception made some remarkable contribution to the society for the purpose
of freedom ghting movement of the country. Now we have a rich past, a glorious present and a bright future.Khudiram
Bose Central College is marching ahead with its motto of self reliance and providing quality education to all, irrespective of
caste, creed, religion, economic status or physical health. In order to ful l this objective, many developmental programmes
were initiated during the preceding years keeping in tune with the changing scenario of education.
We believe in academic excellence of students and our teachers are well versed in the latest teaching methodologies to
facilitate the students through their three years of under graduate learning. The various departments of the college arrange
di erent seminars where subject experts come and interactive session are held. Even few departments of the college
arranges student seminars and student classroom presentation in order to boost up their con dence level and personality
development. The teachers, to enhance the interest of their students not only make classroom teaching interesting but also
plan outdoor programmes like educational tours. I would also like to highlight the fact that we take into consideration the
requirement of students beyond the scope of the syllabus. The Career and Placement cell and The Entry into Services Cell of
the College play an active role in ensuring the students and making them familiar with jobs and career advancement
through various training, workshops and campus interviews. Di erent institutions, reputed companies and expert resource
persons come to the college and have a free interaction with the students. The members of the college o ce are always
ready to extend their help to the students. The central library of the college is well equipped with large number of books and
journals for the use of students. There is a big reading room where students can sit and study. Besides, almost all
departments of the college also have their own library wherefrom the students are also bene ted. The college is also very
much concerned about security of the students. Fire security device and CCTV have been installed in di erent parts of the
college.
The college is not only keen about academic performance of a student but is also dedicated to ensure development of the
humane qualities of a student. Service to society is not only enhanced but diligently and religiously practiced in this college.
The NCC and NSS units of this college cater to this objective. Students learn to shoulder responsibility through community
service and this helps them to grow as members of the society. Apart from academics, Sports is another area where the
college ensures maximum students participation. The students under the e cient sports committee of the college not only
participate but also secure winners and runners up trophy in various competition held at university, district, state and
national levels. The college is also the study centre of Post Graduate under Directorate of Distance Education of Vidyasagar
University.
It is worthwhile to mention that in the year 2013, the college celebrated the closing ceremony of 150th Birth Anniversary of
Swami Vivekananda. On this occasion the college organised a seminar and published a book entitled Bigyan Bhabnei
Swami Vivekananda . The inspiring thoughts of this prophet of modern spiritual renaissance are more relevant today than
ever before. His electrifying message of the divinity of man for peace and harmony emerges out of his own realisation.
Though the best is still to be achieved. I feel proud to say that the success rate of the students is on the rise.
Wish all the students a very happy beginning of their Career.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
The teachers of this college take a deep interest in the academic orientation of the students. The basic
objective behind teaching methodology is to maximise student performance. The teachers strictly
follow the academic calendar prepared by them at the beginning of each academic year. There is a
very healthy co-ordination between the teachers and the students and this facilitates learning.
Another major advantage that helps the students is teacher accessibility beyond the boundary of the
classroom - - the students are most welcome to come to the teachers any time, within the college
hours, with their problems.
The teachers of this college gives priority to update its students by collecting data and information
from internet and also insists the students to browse important internet sites related to their studies.
Besides the teachers also have adopted following modern methods of making the classroom
teaching more interesting and interactive. The methods are as follows:
Audio- Visual Presentation:
In order to make the learning process more interesting and interactive the classes are often
conducted by the projector. For example, the department of History in the last academic session
started a new process of learning by making their students presentation with the help of projector.
Their theme was A Journey Through the Ages The classes of the department of Journalism and
Mass Communication , Geography and IT part of Commerce are also being conducted with the help
of computers. These departments have separate computer laboratories.
Educational Tours:
Film Screening:
Another new mode of teaching adopted by few departments of the college is to show lms to the
students relevant and based on the theme related to their course. For example, the department of
English organises Classic English Movies; the department of JMC prepares and shows documentary
and short lms. Last academic session the department of Political Science organised a lm screening
Madras Café for their students. This movie was also watched by the di erent departments of the
college. In showing the movie, the JMC department assisted the Political Science department.
Another example of inter departmental programmes.
Dramatised Version of Teaching:
The department of Hindi has adopted new process of teaching and learning in the way of drama
enactment on a piece or novel based on and from their syllabus. For example, in recent past a drama
was enacted by the department students on the piece named Bholaram ka Jeev . The drama was
enacted on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda s 150th Birth Anniversary Programme.
Wall Magazine:
These magazines are for students. The students are assisted and insisted by the teachers to enhance
their creative mind and talents in form of these magazines where they are required to search materials
from internet, showcase thought provoking write-ups and information. Di erent department have
their own wall magazines. The names of the wall magazines are as follows:
Department of Education ---- EDUCATUM
As per CU norms the Geography department of the college conducts an excursion tours every year for
their students as part of their course requirement. But the department of Political Science and
Education also started conducting educational tours since 2012. Last academic session, the
department of History visited Indian Museum as part of educational tour. The department of English
visited Birla Museum and Technology. The department of Political Science visited Bidhan Sabha and
the department was joined by JMC, Hindi and Education departments of the college. Also another
educational tour was jointly conducted by the department of Journalism and Mass Communication
and Political Science to Birla Museum. Apart from Geography, these tours are sometimes totally
nancially supported by college and sometimes they are self- nanced tours by the departments.
Department of Political Science ---- AGRADUT
Department of Journalism & Mass Comm. --- DIGANTA
Department of Commerce --- SAPTAPARNI
Department of Bengali ---- BANGLA BIBHAGIO PATRIKA
Department of History ---- UTTARAN
partment of English ---- CHOKHER ALOE --- VISION BEYOND (Since 2010, it started publishing its own
departmental magazine in which not only English departments but also other departments are
welcome to contribute to this magazine.)
Inter departmental Programmes:
In order to enrich the campus life and develop quality teaching among the students, the
departments like Journalism and Mass Communication and Political Science organised last year an
extension lecture on Communication Theory . The lecture was delivered by Prof. Sourav Gupta,
Koratput University, Odisha. Besides the educational tours are also glaring examples of inter
