HAPPY NEW YEAR
SANTA PHOTOS
Santa came to Wylie’s just in time for Christmas. The
younger kids had a marvellous morning and Club
Photographer Extraordinaire, Thorsten Trupke, took
photos of all who sat on Santa’s knee. See the full album on
the Club’s Facebook page.

MILE SWIMATHON 30 JANUARY
The next big event on the calendar is the annual mile
swimathon. This is one of our major fund raising events and
helps defray costs for trophies, barbecues, the annual picnic
at Botany Pool etc. Please encourage your family members
to obtain sponsorship for this event. The swim is a
maximum 36 laps of the pool (approximately one mile) and
it can be swum in any stroke and at any pace. Sponsorship
forms are already available on the Club’s website
www.rcasc.swimming.org.au and Facebook page.
Swimmers will not be accepted after 9.45am.
CHRISTMAS DASH
The Christmas Dash was very popular and the winners
were:

Achievement Award winners
for December: Ben Parkinson,
Hayden Ingle and Joel
Parkinson.
AUSTRALIA DAY
AFTER-RACE MORNING TEA
Get your culinary
imagination going and
rustle up a plate of real
Aussie food for a celebration
after the races. We know it’s
a day or two early, but we
also like an excuse to
socialise after a heavy
morning’s swimming.
BUNNINGS’ BARBECUE HELPERS
Sunday 07 February is the date for another of our big fund raisers for the season and we’re
looking for helpers. We are holding a barbecue at Bunnings and if you can spare some time
it would be appreciated. It is good fun and a way to get to know your fellow club members.
See Chris Grant for more information.

Saturday 05 December 2015
Low tide: 10.44am 0.73m | Water temp 20oc

Penny Weiss - first swim of the season and a blue ticket in the 50 freestyle. The bystanders thought
it was AWESOME!

Mario Mili forgot to tick his name off for the Champos -

Michael Parkinson wants a colourful swimming costume like Christine Raeside’s.

Noreen Byrne was spotted dancing on the block before her breastroke race to loosen up, but still
only came third.

Cynthia Bedingfield hasn’t swum competitively since school and is really enjoying her racing at
RCASC.

Veronique Becker didn’t read the manual and had lots of difficulty adjusting her new goggles.
oh oh.
Saturday 12 December 2015
High tide: 09.32am 1.81m | Water temp 20oc

The high tide swamped the pool. The pool was closed. Races were cancelled. Coffee while
watching the wash was very popular.
Saturday 19 December 2015
Low tide: 09.12am 0.59m | Water temp 20oc

The look of incredulity on Scott Stoddart’s face was wonderful to see when he was first in the 50
yard breastroke by more than a length.

Janice Morris kept losing her goggles, she needs new goggles for Christmas!!

Penny Weiss reckoned her 50 breastroke competitors were not very ‘collegiate’ all leaving her to
come last.

Little Meg Norbury was very good natured about her goggles falling down continually in the 50
yard freestyle.

Mark Schlink needs new swimmers for Christmas, or at least some new elastic.

A urine test was called for Jim Grant, winning the 50 yard freestyle by a half a pool length.
Saturday 26 December 2015
High tide: 09.38am 1.92m | Water temp 21oc

The high tide kept the timekeepers on the landing of the stairs where they hardly got wet.

There was only one stroke swum - freestyle - and the swimmers went to the half way mark and
back.

It was very exciting with swimmers losing direction and practically being swept out of the pool at
the end of their races!

The good volunteers from Coogee Surf Club kept an eye on the proceedings and there were no
rescues.
