Filmpark Babelsberg
Filmpark is located at Europe’s oldest movie-production
location, the renowned Media City Babelsberg. For
more than 20 years, Filmpark has been captivating its
audience with spectacular shows and programs all surrounding the magical world of TV and movie-making.
Filmpark is open yearly through Easter and Halloween.
Come take a look behind the scenes and become part
of an unforgettable experience. Germany’s only volcano
hosts the famed spectacular Stunt Show, daily. The
Making-Of Show, “THE THREE MUSKETEERS in 3D“
invites Filmpark’s guests to learn all about what it
takes to become a real movie star. Our professional
Crew in “TV-Studio 1“ will demonstrate how talk
shows, news casts or TV-series are produced. If you are
curious about how to stage Germany’s most successful
Daily Soap “Good Times, Bad Times (Gute Zeiten,
Schlechte Zeiten, GZSZ), come and visit the original
back lot. If you are lucky, you may even witness your
favorite actor and the production crew live!
For more fun thrills, visit the DOME OF BABELSBERG,
the world’s first interactive XD-theatre. Or come and
join a thrilling ride in the 4D-action cinema. Ready for a
break? Dine in the themed restaurant Prince Valiant, a
medieval themed environment featuring original movieprops from the same-named production.
Movie-making dreams have come true in Babelsberg
since 1911. This historic location has hosted nume
rous renowned movie productions under the signet of
UFA (Universal Film Agency) and DEFA (German Film
Agency). Their legacy of national and international production excellence has continued for over 100 years. Today, Germany’s largest studio complex hosts Hollywood
Blockbusters, feature films and daily soaps. Marlene
Dietrich, one of UFA’s most successful and celebrated
actresses became world-famous in Babelsberg with
her debut in “The Blue Angel“. Fritz Lang made movie
history with his milestone film “Metropolis“ – all these
movie icons loved the charm and flair of Babelsberg.
During the DEFA era, Babelsberg hosted GDR movie
classics like the fairy tale adventure “Little Mook“
featuring exotic costumes. Gojko Mitic started his
career as the “Native American in charge“ during the
productions of several Western themed movies like
“Chingachgook”.
Grundy UFA, the production company of Germany’s
most successful daily soap, “Good Times Bad Times“
(Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten, GZSZ) hosts daily
productions of new episodes for RTL television.
Throughout the last years, the Media City has hosted
many award winning productions, among them “The
Pianist“ featuring Adrien Brody, directed by Roman
Polanski, who won a Golden Palm for his outstanding
movie works. “The Reader“ featuring Kate Winslet and
Ralph Fiennes, produced by Stephen Daldry, followed
this path of fame. Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious
Basterds“ starring Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger and Christoph
Waltz also made movie-history. In late 2011, “The
Three Musketeers in 3D“ directed by action-moviespecialist Paul W. Andersson proudly featured Orlando
Bloom, Milla Jovovich and Christoph Waltz. Literary
masterpiece “The Cloud Atlas“, featuring Tom Hanks,
Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon, was also produced
on-site under the direction of Tom Tykwer and The Wachowskys (known through their movie milestones “The
Matrix“). In early 2013, director and actor George
Clooney is using Babelsberg for his star-casted movie
“The Monuments Men” in which he is going to play the
leading role. Hollywood icons like Matt Damon, Daniel
Craig and Cate Blanchett are going to round off the
production’s star cast.
Today, Babelsberg is synonymous for media innovation
excellence and creativity and represents a modern
Media City consisting of more than 130 companies
and over 2,500 freelance and permanent employees.
Located in close proximity to the German capital Berlin,
Babelsberg continues to draw movie stars from all over
the world. The Media City is also one of the largest
local employers offering opportunities in the areas of
traditional movie and TV crafts and modern technologies. The “Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg“ (Broadcasting
Berlin Brandenburg) as well as the University for Film
and TV “Konrad Wolf“, offer fantastic training grounds
for aspiring filmmakers. The Filmorchestra Babelsberg
also belongs to the vibrant business center.
