“I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for all that you have done
for me this past year or so. You have shown me so much kindness and
have gone the extra mile to get me the help I have needed each time
I have contacted We Care. We Care has always treated me with nothing
less than respect. I just wanted you all to know that I appreciate your
diligence and nonstop concern for me and the situation at the time. We
Care helped me to see doctors that I otherwise would never have been
able to see. The We Care Clinic, Dr. Box and you have been such a
blessing to me. I know that God places people in our lives at certain
times for a reason and a purpose. I could never sum up in mere words
my love and appreciation for you. Thank you from the bottom of my
heart for your kindness and concern for me and my well-being.
Have a blessed day.” “I want to thank you, Tina and Melinda for all
your care and concern for my health. You have given me great comfort
and saved me. If it were not for you I would be lost. I think
‘WE CARE’ is the perfect name because that's exactly the way you make

me feel. In this rough and tumble world, it’s great to know there are
people like you out there helping save lives.” “We express how much we
appreciate the extreme help and medical care we have received from
Muslim Care and the We Care staff. We appreciate the dedicated work
you all do for people who cannot afford health insurance.”
2013 Report to the Community
A true network of care
We Care Jacksonville, Inc. is a charitable, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation designed to improve health care
When Dr. George S. Trotter, as a leader of the Duval County Medical Society,

expensive. Today, We Care Jacksonville is an affiliation of 560 specialists, 12 independent free clinics, eight hospitals and one
rehabilitation hospital. Care is provided without charge and occurs across the community, not only in free clinics but also in
hundreds of private doctors’ offices, in hospitals and in imaging centers.
We Care is grateful for the spirit of volunteerism and the dedication of our many donors, partners and friends.
Steve Prom was a visionary leader who played an integral role in the growth of
Our Board of Directors, staff and patients are so grateful for the dedication and compassion that our Jacksonville
community continues to demonstrate. We are preventing colon and breast cancers through early detection and
screening. We are diagnosing and treating behavioral health issues, treating fractures, cancers, acute illnesses and
chronic diseases. Access to care continues to be a great challenge, but our dedicated network of volunteers and
donated services is truly changing lives and health behaviors.
The past two years have experienced tremendous growth for We Care Jacksonville. The number of patients
served has increased to more than 10,000 and donated care is now valued at $16 million annually. Ninety cancer
patients were treated during the last 18 months with services that included surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
As you will read in this year’s report, we have been working to create a true network of care for Jacksonville.
We have been assisted by our Board of Directors and the leaders of all of Duval County’s hospitals who have
joined our Strategic Development Council. New partners, such as United Way of Northeast Florida, the Florida
Blue Foundation, the Jessie Ball duPont Foundation, the City of Jacksonville and many other generous
philanthropists, are investing dollars and resources to build infrastructure and to increase the diversity of services
for We Care patients. This is how we will continue to grow We Care as a sustainable community resource.
We are grateful to all of our community partners — and look ahead with great anticipation for the continued
growth in access to care for our most vulnerable populations — as we work together to build a healthier
community.
Sincerely,
We Care Jacksonville. Steve brought, energy, intellect and passion to all of his efforts
in support of We Care’s mission. As President, he helped build the We Care Board
into a strong, diverse, cohesive and effective group, and was instrumental in
strengthening the financial status of the organization. Steve’s many contributions
to We Care, and the Jacksonville community, will be long remembered.

Helping to Shoulder the Burden
Tammy worked for years at a job with full insurance benefits, which

The successful surgery was performed at no charge at JOI and months
of rehabilitation through Baptist Rehabilitation at no charge followed.
Today, Tammy has follow-up visits with JOI and continues her rehab
exercises on her own.
And who helped Tammy arrange appointments and guide her through
the MRI, surgery and rehab? Jamie Pearl, who also serves as a specialty
case manager at We Care Jacksonville, handling acute care situations
such as Tammy’s.
In 1993, George S. Trotter, MD, led the charge to help the most
