Mrs. Mack’s Musings. . .
Community R-VI
The days are moving quickly at Community R-VI and it is so exciting to watch
School District
our students interacting with peers and staff. I find they always make my
day brighter. Their positive comments always help me see things from a
different perspective.
Community
As I look at our students, I think about the future; the future we, as adults
Communicator
are leaving for them and the future they will create. I am reminded of the
importance of being a life-long learner, the importance of being inquisitive.
Spring 2016
The world of technology has changed many things. Recently, I was looking at
Edition
a social media site and I noticed a blurb concerning a famous actress. The
paragraph stated she had died and my first reaction was to feel sad that her
life had ended, but then, I wondered if the writing was factual or something
posted to seek a response. Upon further research, I learned the paragraph,
was in fact not true.
My hope is that our students will leave our buildings with the desire to
search out the truth and not accept all things at face value. I hope they
crave knowledge and become empowered to make changes in our great nation,
and that they set lofty goals and strive to reach them.

Secondary News from Mr. Curtis
Second semester is in full swing with testing season right around the corner. As always it will
be a very busy last few months of school. Please check the enclosed calendar for all of our
award ceremonies, spring concert dates, graduation, prom and summer school info enclosed. I
have truly enjoyed my second year as the HS/MS Principal at Community R-6 which is credit to
the great students and staff we have in Trojan Country. Please continue to use the parent
portal to monitor grades and lunch accounts as the school year comes to a close. If you have
issues with your password give Sandy a call at (885)708-7567. As you look at grades, I should
mention we have tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:35-5:30 p.m. for
those students who may need some assistance. We are continuing to see growth in our students with every quarter that has passed. As parents, grandparents, and other special adults
in our kids’ lives, we thank you for being continually involved in their school work and encouraging them to do their very best.
We thank all parents for their continued support of our school district!!!
Respectfully,
Mr. Bob Curtis
Secondary Principal
Elementary News from Mrs. Angel
Although I don’t necessarily mind cold weather, I am anxiously awaiting the return of spring!
Spring means outdoor recess again and Cardinal baseball! Spring has many perks but along with
it comes the dreaded yearly testing. Students in grades 3-5 have had the opportunity to practice the state test and get used to the new format. Our testing theme this year is “It’s Time
To Glow, Show What You Know”.
I have a feeling the creative juices of the classroom teachers will be flowing to decorate the
elementary wing to help students glow during testing! Please watch the Elementary PTO website and for weekly newsletters for testing updates.
Other elementary events to mark on your calendar include the annual Geography Bee which will
be held on February 17 and the Spelling Bee the following week on February 24. We also have
spring pictures on February 25!
Has your child told you about the additions to the new Elementary Science lab? Ask them
about our new animal friends or come by and visit the lab. I love walking in and observing the
students working with the equipment and discovering new facts. Kindergarten students have
been using the weather station outside to help predict and report the daily weather. We have
lots of little scientists at Community R-VI Elementary!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Angel

Title I
Mrs. Madsen's 2015-2016 HOLLYWOOD READERS, have read
a grand total of 252 books.
Last fall, the students agreed to a reading goal of at least 450 books to be read during the
2015-2016 school year. 1st and 2nd grade students could try to read 1 book each
night Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, while 3rd-5th grade students could read a chapter
book every 1-2 weeks. Don't forget to read a little during the long weekend (or when you are
bored)! Mrs. Madsen's students continue to READ to their parents,
answer questions about the book they read, and/or RETELL the story. Their RECIPE for
SUCCESSFUL Reading is to continue READING DAILY! Ask your child what book they
are reading, and questions about the story. Congratulations to the 1st-5th grade readers.
Thank you also to all the listeners!
Mrs. Gilman’s Tidbits: ACT Testing, FAFASA, Scholarships and Enrollments

Friday March 4th.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFASA)-
See the updated changes to signing options for the FAFSA:
The Federal Student Aid PIN was replaced with the FSA ID on May 10, 2015. The new FSA ID consists of a
user-created username and password to electronically access personal information on Federal Student Aid
Web sites, including FAFSA on the Web. You can use your FSA ID immediately to sign your FAFSA, but
must wait for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to verify your information before you can use the
FSA ID to create a renewal FAFSA, make corrections to your FAFSA, or view your SAR. https://

ScholarshipsThere are many scholarship opportunities coming this spring. I have already begun filling the crate with
copies of the applications. On the applications you will see two due dates. The actual due date is on the application as well as the Mrs. Gilman (MG) due date. This date is when I will need your applications if you
would like me to send them in. This date is usually a few days to a week prior to the due date so that the
applications get sent on time. Please continue to check the scholarship calendar on Mrs. Gilman’s website or
in her office for updates. If you have questions, please let Mrs. Gilman know!
Calling all Senior Parents!
This year I am going to try something new. I am going to set up a group that includes all seniors so that I
can send emails regarding upcoming dates. I will also try and put this information in the bulletin. If you
would like to be included in this email, please contact me and I will add you so that you can see upcoming
dates as well.
Hart Career Center Open HouseThe HHC Open House will be on Tuesday February 2nd from 5-8 pm at the Career Center. This is a great
opportunity for families to be able to see what programs are offered as well as for the student to showcase
their work there.

Spring 2016 Testing
The school year is seeming to fly by and before we know it, it will be time for spring testing again! This
year’s testing is gong to look a little different that is has in the
past. All MAP and EOC testing will be completed on electronic devices this year, compared to the paper and pencil tests of the past.
Also, new this year is a mandated, state-wide ACT testing for high
school juniors. Be on the lookout for detailed testing schedule closer
to the testing dates! With the new changes in testing, it is extremely important that our students are prepared. Here are a few
tips that parents can do to make sure their child is prepared.
• Try not to put too much pressure on your child. Reinforce that as long as they worked hard in
preparation and did their absolute best you will be proud of them.
• Try to use positive language when talking about expectations of the test. Do not overinflate the child’s
expectations but also try to avoid negative wording (e.g. replace “you are gong to fail this test if you
don’t study” with “if you don’t study you aren’t gong to pass this test.”)
• Encourage your child to think positive thoughts like “I can do this!” or plan for a fun outing or treat for
your child after the test has been completed.
• Adequate rest makes a difference! Make sure your child gets an ample, normal amount of sleep the night
before the test. Tired children have difficulty focusing and are easily flustered by challenges.
• Also, make sure your child has enough time to wake up fully before they have to go to school. Just as
rest is important, so is having enough time to get their brain engaged and in gear. If their test is first
thing in the morning, they can’t afford to spend the first hour of school groggy and unfocused.
• Nutrition also influences how well children do on the test. Try to provide a high-protein, healthy, lowsugar breakfast for your child.
• Help your child learn how to relax. Work with the child to take time before the test begins to take a
number of deep, cleansing breaths, exhaling slowly.
• Make attendance a priority, especially on days that you know standardized testing will be administered
or there is a test in the classroom. Though it’s important for your child to be in school as many days as
possible, making sure they are here when the test is taken helps to ensure they won’t lose more learning
time because they have to make up a test during school.
If you have any questions, please let me know!

Community Communicator
Dear Parents, Families, and Community Supporters,
Winston Churchill once said "You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give."
As the 2015-2016 school year begins there will be numerous organizations attempting to get money through fundraising.
On average an organization will make approximately 30% of the totals sales from a fundraising company. Example:
They will sell cookie dough for $10 a tub and the organization only receives $3 from each bucket.
This year the Community R-6 PTO is trying something a bit different. CR6 PTO has set a goal of $5,000. Although hefty we think this is obtainable. Here's how we want to meet that goal. DONATIONS! That's right! We
are not selling anything! We are simply asking you to consider a donation to the organization. If you would have
ordered a $10 item from previous fundraisers consider donating that entire $10 to the better education experience
of the students. The $5,000 we raise will be used to improve technology in the classroom and continuous playground improvements.
Mother Theresa said "Give, but give until it hurts".
Send checks made payable to Community R-6 PTO to Community R-6 Elementary c/o PTO 35063 Hwy BB Laddonia,
MO 63352. If sending money to school with your student make sure its intension is clearly marked on envelope PTO
FUNDRAISER. THANK YOU!!!!
PTO NEWS -January 2016
We hope that everyone had a great Christmas break. We are back at it for this second half of the school year.
Before we take a look at what’s to come let’s recap the first half of the year.
So far this year the PTO has established a set of bylaws. We decided to do a donation fundraiser letter, which
there is a copy attached. So far we have raised $139.50 with this fundraiser. In September we had the fall book
fair earning 655.58 in Scholastic Dollars bringing our total up to 1227.59 Scholastic Dollars. The T-shirts for
Trinton went over very well with every student receiving a shirt PTO paid a total of $288.00 which was half of
the student’s shirts to make sure every student had a shirt. A total of $806.50 was donated to the family. Awesome job everyone.
The Box Top Carnival went over really well, $243.10 was raised off of box tops and around $60.00 in concessions.
A total of 145 lbs of food was donated to the Laddonia Food Pantry from the food drive in November. Craft Fair
profits came to a total of $3346.55. We thank you all so much for all of your help and participation in these
events.
Upcoming or current events
We are currently exploring the free Shoparoo app as a means of fundraising. This app can be used on any smartphone to turn your receipts into a cash donation to the school. More information is on the flyer. We are also dis-
cussing other possible fundraisers including another fun Box Top drive for this spring. We want to remind every-
one it is not to late to send in donation from the donation letter. February we planned to have parent
lunch week as well as the spring book fair.
Meetings
February 16th, 6pm, Elementary Cafeteria- Book Fair/ New Officer Nominations
March 15th, 6pm, Elementary Cafeteria, New Officer Election
