Form a 4⅛ x 51/2-inch top-folded card from black
card stock.
Using Textile Texture embossing folder, emboss a
4 x 51/2-inch piece of white card stock. Using Scroll
Lace Edge punch, punch bottom edge of white
embossed panel.
Cut a 2⅞-inch circle from white card stock. In the
same manner as before, emboss circle with Textile
Texture embossing folder.

template, die-cut a scalloped circle from black card

Form a 41/4 x 51/2-inch side-folded card from
orange cardstock. Using black ink, stamp diamond
background onto card front.
Cut a 33/4 x 5-inch piece from black cardstock.
Using Damask embossing folder, emboss black panel.
Wrap ribbon around black panel 3/4 inch below top
edge; secure ends to back. Adhere to card front.
Cut a 17/8-inch square from orange cardstock.
Using black ink, stamp Halloween sentiment onto
orange cardstock. Using electronic cutting machine,
cut a 13/8-inch circle around sentiment. In the same
manner, cut a 13/4-inch scalloped circle from black
cardstock. Layer and adhere square, scalloped circle
and sentiment circle to card front as shown.
Cut a 23/8 x 21/8-inch piece from black cardstock.
Adhere to orange cardstock; trim a small border.
Adhere to card front as shown.
Using orange ink, stamp body of pumpkin onto
cream cardstock; stamp pumpkin outline, stem and
jack-o’-lantern face onto orange pumpkin with
brown ink. Cut out and attach to card front as

Form a 5 x 7-inch side-folded card from School Buses paper. Cut a
41/2 x 3-inch piece from Computer Class paper and a 3 x 4-inch piece from Scattered

many of the techniques used in card making come
from other types of crafting. Sewing on paper is a
perfect example. Stitches create additional texture
and interest, and give cards an added homemade feel.
Three ways to add stitching to your cards are with
your sewing machine, hand-stitching or embroidery
with a simple needle and thread, or you can create
faux stitches with your favorite pen.
Yes, the same sewing machine that you’ve used for
stitching together your fabric projects can be used
with paper. The following three helpful suggestions
will lead you to success the first time you use it on
paper. First, it’s best to keep one needle set aside
just for paper, because sewing on paper will dull
your needle. Next, lengthen your stitch setting. If
your stitches are too close together, you will end up
shredding your paper and cutting it apart with the
stitches. You may also need to adjust the tension.

like you can on fabric. The most important thing to
remember is that you will need to prepunch holes
for your design in your paper before you begin. Start
by using a pencil to draw a line or design where you
want the stitching to be. Next, use a paper piercer
or pushpin to create holes an even distance apart.
You can either eyeball the hole placement or use a
ruler for more precise stitch lengths. There are some
great tools on the market that do the designing for
you. Bazzill’s In Stitch’z offers many different design
templates for you to lay on your project, and all
you have to do is pierce through the holes to create
the design. We r memory Keepers offers the Sew
easy tool and different design stitch heads. Simply
lay your paper on a piece of craft foam and roll the
Sew easy tool over your paper. It perfectly pierces
a stitch design right into your project. Use a needle
and embroidery floss to stitch the design. Hand
stitching is more time consuming, but it will add a
homespun look without a machine.
Finally, if you like the look of stitching but don’t
want to mess with needle and thread, grab a pen and
create faux stitches! You can either take your pen
straight to paper or plan it out a bit. Using a pencil
and maybe even a ruler, draw out your design first.
Once you are satisfied with the design, draw even
dashes to replicate stitches. Let the pen ink dry for a
moment and then carefully erase the pencil line. Faux
stitching is quick and easy, and allows for a lot of
freedom in design.
Try one or all three types of stitching. No matter
which way you add some stitches to your cards,
you will end up with beautiful handmade results. ●

Project note: If you’ve never tried tea-bag folding, it is
a good idea to practice the folding technique with larger
squares of paper before folding 1-inch-square pieces.
Form a 51/2 x 41/4-inch top-folded card from kraft
cardstock.

pattern on page 78 and use a pencil to trace branch.
Turn tracing paper over and use pencil to retrace the
lines; this creates your own transfer paper. Turn tracing
paper over to front and place on top of a 51/8 x 33/4-inch
piece of brown cardstock, positioning branch as shown.
