St. Priscilla Parish Family
St. Priscilla Parish Mission Statement
We, the people of St. Priscilla Parish, grounded in the Word of God and
Sacred Tradition, find strength and joy in the transforming power of Christ's sacrificial
love as manifested in the Eucharist. We commit ourselves to lifelong spiritual
formation, compassionate service, evangelization and the generous sharing of
God’s gifts with our parish family and the community at large.
We invite people from all cultures and walks of life to join us in our faith journey.

Fr. Theo’s Thoughts
Well, in the past few months we have been
hearing so much about ‘Changing Lives Together’.
Along with this we are undergoing many changes in
our customs, traditions and practices too. Hence we
are asking everyone for their patience and understanding as we
try and comply with the directives being sent down to us. We
realize that many of us are steeped in our long standing
traditions that mean so much to us. The reasons for the changes
are mostly an attempt to make the Church more universal by
bringing uniformity into its liturgies around the world. The
world has gotten much smaller due to modern innovations in
travel and communications.
We have experienced some changes in the Liturgy
already and there are a few more to come. The new Roman
missal calls for some new practices as concerns Holy Week.
The most drastic of these changes is experienced on Good
Friday. The Liturgy for this day can no longer take place until
3:00 pm and is recommended to take place at that time. Stations
of the cross are allowed to take place between noon and three
o’clock. We are planning to have the Church open at noon for
those who would like to come for personal prayer. We will have
a special rendition the stations of the cross, presented by the
choir, at 2:00 pm and the Good Friday liturgy at 3:00pm.
This will conform to the traditions of most other
countries of the world. The cross will be reverenced without the
corpus as it will be representative of the time after the body of
Jesus has been taken down. While we know that it is difficult to
change our traditional way of doing things, we pray that all will
have a prayerful and blessed Holy Week experience.
Peace, Fr. Theo

Night for Parents Huge Success!
Nearly 70 parents, core team members and middle school youth
joined us for the much anticipated EDGE Night for Parents held,
Thursday, March 1. The theme for this night, “Life is Wonderful,”
and its goal was to teach that human life is sacred at all stages and to
promote and understanding the Catholic Church’s moral stance on the
major life issues.
Discussion topics included abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem
cell research and the death penalty. The Church teaches us that life is
a gift from God. From the moment of conception to natural death, all
human life is sacred and should be protected. As Catholics, we are
called to see life as precious and to speak up for the most vulnerable in
our society. “I am the way and the truth and the life.” - John 14:6
In the summer of 2010, the U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops surveyed over 600 seminarians and found that relationships with parish priests and youth ministers were among
the most influential in seminarians’ vocational discernment.
30% of surveyed seminarians stated that Life Teen played
a role in helping them discern their vocation. In addition 49%
had attended at least one parish or national Life Teen
event during high school. What makes this statistic worth
considering, is the fact that Life Teen is currently being implemented in only 1400 of the 18,000 U.S. Catholic parishes.

Today’s Gospel says Jesus
chased the merchants out of the
temple, it doesn’t say He was
angry. Jesus teaches us to act
from conviction and not from
anger. He didn’t condemn the
merchants, only their business
practice. Attack the behavior and
not the person.

Sew Simple Ministry
Our Sew Simple seamstresses
come together every week to make
small outfits for the needy children
in Haiti. They are at the point
where they need to replenish their
supply of cotton sheeting material;
printed or solid color. (NO white
please) If you have any old sheets
that are no longer needed, send
them our way. Also rick-rack for
accessory trim. These small outfits
are such a treat for these small
children; sometimes the only outfit
they have. Please help us continue
this fine ministry.
Support the Respect for
Rights of Conscience Act
We
are
encountering
serious threats to religious
liberty in the United States.
Under the First Amendment
to the Constitution, we should
be left free to love God
according to our conscience.
The government should not
force us to choose between
violating our consciences, or
violating the law.
In response to a mandate
from the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services
which would force the Church,
and many Catholics, to choose
between violating the law and
violating their conscience, the
bishops of Michigan are
joining with the U.S. Bishops
in their support of the Respect
for Rights of Conscience Act.

protect our religious freedom,

properties. Earwax is not really a ‘wax’ but a water-soluble mixture of
secretions, plus hair and dead skin. Earwax is formed in the outer one-third
of the ear canal, but not in the deep part of the ear canal near the eardrum.
The absence of earwax may result in dry, itchy ears. Most of the time
the ear canals are self-cleaning that is, there is a slow and orderly
migration of earwax and skin cells from the eardrum to the ear opening.
Old earwax is constantly being transported, assisted by chewing and jaw
motion, from the ear canal to the ear opening where it usually dries, flakes,
and falls out.
Un f ort un at el y , m an y p e opl e
mistakenly believe that earwax should
be routinely removed for personal
hygiene. This is not so, in fact,
attempting to remove earwax with cotton
-tipped swabs, bobby pins, or other
probing devices can result in damage to
the ear, including trauma, impaction of
the earwax, or even temporary deafness.
These objects only push the wax in
deeper, and can block the ear canal
entirely.
Under ideal circumstances, the ear canals should never have to be
cleaned. However, that isn’t always the case. The ears should be cleaned
when enough earwax accumulated to cause symptoms or to prevent a
needed assessment of the ear by your doctor. This condition is called
cerumen impaction and may cause one or more of the following
symptoms:
Pastor

Earache, fullness in the ear, or a sensation the ear is plugged.
Partial hearing loss, which may be progressive
Tinnitus, ringing or noises in the ear.
Itching odor, or discharge.
Coughing.
If you or a child’s experiencing any of these symptoms, you should
seek the care of a medical professional to confirm that earwax is the cause.
Do not attempt to remove the wax yourself. An otolaryngologist is a
medical doctor who specifically deals with conditions of the ears and is
trained to treat such a problem.
