President’s message
Hello all,
I guess my first subject as we head into the Christmas season is in regard to the past
month and a half. Back near the middle of September, we were blessed to have
what would be considered to be the most perfect weather weekend on September 18
through the 20th. It was so perfect that our Alpenrose Schuhplattlers were host to record crowds at the Annual Oktoberfest. Our attendance out-paced all other fests of
the past. As we worked to serve all these people, the throngs kept entering our festplatz. Needless to say, not only was our attendance record blown out of the water,
we also netted record profits from all the work.
When I say, “all the work”, I really mean it. I know so many of our members are
signed up to work as volunteers, and they see, somewhat some of the work that
needs to be done. But, if they are not around the clubhouse and fest grounds in the
mornings leading up to each opening, most people probably don’t have any idea how much work goes into
this huge undertaking. The clubhouse and the kitchen are abuzz with people cooking and peeling potatoes
for the hundreds of pounds of potato salad, shredding potatoes for the multiple buckets of potato pancake
mix. Cooking sausages and saurerkraut, not to mention cutting, pounding, breading and frying 350 Schnitzels for the Sunday afternoon food line.
Thanks must go out to all the chair people of all these different crews from cooking and serving, set-up and
tear down, crafts and games, the store, the cleanup and decorating crew, bartending, beer, cakes, performing groups….the list goes on and on. Without these people, these fests would not be possible. So, when we
begin to plan for our fests next season, be sure to contact one of the committee chairs, and tell them you
want to be a part of it. They can use your help, and it’s all for the good of the club.
Our dance season has begun, and plans are being made for our New Year’s Eve party whitch will feature 2
options: Dinner Buffet and Dance or Dance only option. Watch inside this newsletter (page 9), and on the
website for all the details and information. Tickets will go on sale directly after the November membership
meeting at the same time 2016 membership renewal begins. We are also gearing up for all our parties like
the Volunteers and Organizations’ Christmas party. That is always a delightful evening of pot luck dinner and
entertainment from the organizations within our club. (con’t on page 2 )

President’s message (con’t from Page 1)
On October 24th, we had a special dinner to honor the 40 years of elected service of Paul Stanavage, including 19 years as president. It was a special evening, hosted by volunteers, and all the proceeds of the evening are being donated to a charity of Paul’s choice. When you see Paul around the club, be sure to thank
him for his service.
This wraps up my message for this edition. Please accept greetings for a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry and
Blessed Christmas, and a Happy New Year, from myself, and all the officers and trustees of the Liederkranz.
Einigkeit macht stark!
Robert L. Kilp
NEW MEMBERS
New members that are voted in each month must pick up their cards at the bar approximately two
weeks after becoming a member – cards will not be mailed, you must come to the club, and receive
your proximity card from the bartender. Your name has been entered into the roster books at the door
and at the bar—just state your name to be given club privilege until receiving card.
Make sure your name is correct and sign the back of your card.
Note: There is now a build up of new member cards that have not been picked up at the bar.
If you have not picked up your new card, please come to the club bar and claim yours.
Thank You—Data Administrator—John Northup
Dining Reservation Policy and Gratuity Policy:
Thursday & Friday Dining: Reservations allowed in the Ballroom Annex only. No reservations allowed in
the Barroom or Stammtisch areas. Please remember your servers are volunteers of the club and are not
receiving paid compensation for their work.— please support them.
First Thursdays:Nonmembers must exit the Ballroom Annex at the start of the Membership meeting at 7:30
MEMBERSHIP CARD POLICY
- As a member, it is your responsibility to validate your membership upon entrance to the club either to the Door Attendant or the Bartender on duty—even if you may be a
long time member. This practice, along with signing-in of nonmembers is not meant to be an annoyance to
you, but are requirements by the PA Liquor Control Board who govern our private club status. Please be
prepared to offer your membership card each time you enter whether or not you feel the door attendant or
bartender should know you. Our growing membership makes this practice even more important.
FRONT DOOR ATTENDANT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Thursday & Friday evening front door volunteers are needed. For their work, door volunteers receive dinner and beverage. Couples are welcome! If
interested in learning more about this volunteer work, please contact Helen Reinfried at 584-5436

Trustees’ Report
By Dave Reinfried, Head Trustee
Guten Tag everyone!
It looks like the cold weather is here for a while. Our club work day is behind us so that
means that the pavilion is closed and we no longer have a need for grass cutting. Our
thanks go out to the mowing crews for another season keeping the club grounds looking so good.
Now that it is winter, check out the club calendar for our dance schedule. The club
dances each have a theme tied to our rich German heritage. Buy your dance tickets at
the bar and come out and see how they party in Germany. All dances have a menu
available so you can enjoy a dinner even if you don’t attend the dance.
The kitchen is adding something new next year. We are going to have a monthly Sunday brunch and bring back Wednesday wing nights once a month. Watch your club
emails for information as it becomes available. We already offer Thursday Trivia nights twice a month and don’t
forget to come out on Thursday or Friday for our regular dinner menu.
As new events come to the club, we announce them in the weekly emails. Come out and enjoy any of the activities at the club, get involved and we can make it even better. Hope to see you at our fine establishment. (I’ll be
the one with a beer in my hand).
Prost! Dave Reinfried

Paul Stanavage – Vorplattler
A year has passed since my husband of 55 years and
my active dance partner of 50 of those years has left me
to dance with Angels, or so I assume. I still sense his
presence and I miss him. I would like to thank the many
Liederkranz members who have shown and voiced compassion for him and for me.
Fortunately for our Alleweil Jung German Folk Dance
group, a wind of change has blown in and rejuvenated
us with a President in Bill Eichenser, a Secretary in
Candy Eichenser and a Treasurer in Jim Riccio. I remained as VP and dance instructress (Tanzleiterin) and
have been having great support from all, especially
Carolyn Santos, our ever-ready Energizer Lady.
Our practice sessions will continue on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 6:30 to
7:30 pm, followed by general social dancing. Next practice sessions will be November 9th, November 23rd and Dec 7th. For those who need to or would like to
get in touch please use the following e-mails;
Bill Eichenser, [email protected];
Candy Eichenser, [email protected];
Jim Riccio, [email protected];
Doris Blouin, [email protected];
Carolyn Santos, [email protected];
Please enter these addresses in your files; change my former address
(paonline) to [email protected].
In October the Alleweil Jung group had a good showing and performance at the
Masonic Home in Elizabethtown. For most of the dancers it was their debut outside of the Liederkranz, where we performed at the Oktoberfest on Saturday afternoon and provided fun and participation dancing for the audience. The next
performances will be in November for the Palmyra Women's Club and for the
Stiftungsfest of LLK Alpenrose Schuhpattler. Additionally we are preparing a
contribution to the Club Christmas party. Thus we are on the way to becoming
an active group again, for our own good health and spirits and the enjoyment of
Liederkranz members and outside audiences.
Since there will not be another newsletter this year, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with lots of dancing, singing and joyful experiences.
Doris and the Alleweil Jung German Folk Dancers.

extraordinary upcoming events into your personal calendar. I invite you to
Holiday Concert presented by the Chorus on Saturday December 5th at 5
Zion Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Landisville.

Alpenrose Schuhplattler
At the time of this writing our busy Oktoberfest season is winding down. Our next big event at the club is our annual Stiftungsfest held on Saturday, November 21st. As always we are delighted to invite
the members of the Hobby Chor, Alleweil Jung, Kindergruppe and Chorus to participate
in the evening’s festivities. Our Stiftungsfest will celebrate the Alpenrose’s 42nd anniversary, and in addition to a night of music and song we perform an Ehrentanz (honor
dance). For this evening we extend an invitation to neighboring schuhplattler clubs from
Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and even as far away as Canada, to share in the celebration and also perform an
ehrentanz. The Alpenrose invites all our members to join us for what is usually a very
entertaining evening. Our program begins at 7:00 PM with a buffet dinner available from
6-8 pm.. Maria, John, Chip and friends will provide dance music again this year and tickets for the dance are available at the club.
Finally we will close out the year with performing at the Christkindl Markt in Mifflenburg
on Saturday, December 12th sometimes a bit chilly but usually a very nice afternoon.
The Alpenrose is always eager to introduce the Bavarian trachten culture to new members of any age, so as
the new year approaches maybe give it a try. We wish to thank our club members and friends for supporting our
efforts throughout the year and extend to all of you our best wishes for a wonderful holiday season “und froehliche
Weihnacht”

Kindergruppe Report
The Kindergruppe wants to thank everyone that has supported us through our Oktoberfest season. During our Oktoberfest, we held our usual soft pretzel sales. We sold
1700 soft pretzels, and because the weather was perfect, we could have probably sold
more, due to the turnout at our Oktoberfest. We didn’t want to take a chance by ordering extra pretzels, but with hindsight being 20/20, we surely could have. Thanks to the
Kiefer and Ulrich families for picking up the pretzels for us. Also to Sam Kiefer for organizing our pretzel sales force, and making sure our pretzel station was manned, even
when the children were out roving through the crowd, selling them. We would also like
to thank Kathy Buckwalter, for organizing the baking, decorating and selling the Lebkuchen. “Thank you Kathy and your entire crew of Kindergruppe parents and friends”.
Also, thanks to Dave Reinfried for auctioning off a promotional beer sign, and to the Jeff Schaum family for winning the auction. The money was donated to the Kindergruppe. Another person we would like to thank is Gene
Barton, who has supported us by his donations to the group. “Thank you”, Gene!
You will see in this newsletter, information on our annual wreath, greens, and poinsettia sale. This is another
fundraiser that we do each year, and as we plan to host the Kinderfest, right here at the Liederkranz, in June of
2016, the support will help us earn enough money to host the fest. The Kinderfest is a festival of sorts for all the
children from the various children’s dance groups in our Mid-Atlantic district. The Kinderfest is put on for these
children, with no expense to them. Everything is provided by our group. To everyone, thank you so much for
your support of our group. Bob & Mary Ellen Kilp

HOBBY CHOR NOTES
Mike Braun, President
The Hobby Chor's busy Oktoberfest season ended with a bang culminating with a performance in Bethlehem, PA for the 'Yuengling' sponsored
Oktoberfest at the Steel Stacks location, site of the former Bethlehem Steel
plant. Fifteen of our guys entertained crowds numbering in the thousands
the afternoon of Sunday, October 11. The prior evening, we helped put on
the Liederkranz's own 'Weinlesefest'. For those of you who have never
been to this club dance, you're missing out on a fun time. You get a chance
at trying to snag some grapes and mini wine bottles and get them back to
your table before being thrown in jail. For those ending up incarcerated,
they have to rely on someone to bail them out.
Next up for the Hobby Chor is the Military Ball the evening of Saturday, November 14th, a time to salute all our Veterans and current Military
personnel. November 21st we will open up at the Stiftungsfest. We hope
you will come out to see us soon!
A special thank you to Maria Antoniak for playing for us Saturday evening of our own Oktoberfest. The
Hobby Chor also salutes Paul Stanavage for his years of dedication to the Liederkranz and the cultural
groups.
Needle-Craft Group Meets at the Club
We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday every month at the club from 6 to 8pm.
We would like to invite any club members to bring their knitting, crocheting or any needlecraft project and join our group. Those new to knitting/crocheting are also welcome. We knit,
share project know-how and conversation while our needles fly. We affectionately call our
group Stitch-N-B%#ch. If you have any questions, contact group organizers:

Singspiel Participants Celebrate Sankt Martinstag!
On October 20th, over 60 participants - young and old - took part in learning about
St. Martin's Day! During the hour and a half meeting, the Liederkranz' "Singspiel"
group - the German music, language and culture group for youth - learned about
the significance of St. Martin, sang traditional songs sung for St. Martin's day on 11.
11., and made "Laternen" for the culminating activity of doing an actual
"Martinszug" (Parade for St. Martin), in which German's parade through the streets
singing with lanterns in hand. Even Sankt Martin himself made a special appearance and lead the Martinszug!
The Singspiel meetings are aimed at students in 2nd - 12th grades, but all are welcome to attend! We will have our next event on November 19th from 6:30 - 8 PM. The meeting will have a
Christmas theme and we will be learning Christmas songs in preparation for caroling at some of the retirement
homes in which some of our Liederkranz members reside. Additionally, the children will be
participating with the Liederkranz' Chorus at
their concert on December 5th.
To stay up-to-date with the Singspiel events
and see pictures and videos, please join our
Facebook Group called "Singspiel - Lancaster
Liederkranz".
