Sayyeshaa Saigal seeks
advice on films from Salman
MUMBAI, OCT 17 /--/
Debutante Sayyeshaa Saigal
says she seeks career advice
from superstar Salman Khan.
Sayyeshaa, who is making
her Bollywood debut with
Ajay Devgn in "Shivaay", reveals she met Salman at her
grandf ather Dilip Kumar's
birthday party few years
back. "I met him (Salman) few
years ago at my grandfather's
birthday and he in fact said
that time I will get into films.
I think he has an eye for talent. Over the years our equation is like I can pick up the
call and talk to him if I
should do this film or not. I
can take advice from him. I
think I am lucky to be able to
do that, "Sayyeshaa told PTI.
The 19-year-old actress has
expressed her desire to work
with the "Sultan" star. "He is
a fantastic human being. He
is my favouite and I want to
work with him. I know Sooraj
Pancholi and Tiger Shroff
and they are friends of mine.
But most of my friends are
from school and college. I
know people socially in
Bollywood but my closet
friends are from outside the
film industry." Sayyeshaa
said she is looking forward to
the release of "Shivaay", directed by Devgn and is set to
release on October 28. (PTI)
'Runningshaadi.com' release
delay saddens Amit Sadh
MUMBAI, OCT 17 /--/ Actor Amit Sadh is excited that his
much-delayed film "Runningshaadi.com" is finally going to
hit the screens as the wait for its release made him feel depressed. Also starring Taapsee Pannu, the romantic drama
has been produced by Shoojit Sircar. It was made long back
but didn't get any release date. However, the film has now reportedly got a release date sometime early next year. Expressing his happiness on the news, Amit told PTI, "I am very
happy. It has been painful two years because after 'Kai Po
Che!' this was supposed to be my first film. I cannot explain
and express the depression and the sadness that I have gone
through. "I guess Taapsee seconds the same emotions because
we are very close friends," the 37-year-old actor said. Amit
said the film has got a mature love story and hopes the audience gives the movie its due. "'Runningshaadi.com is an entertainer. It is a story of a young couple. It is a very mature,
cute love story and things people do in small cities. I hope it
entertains people. I hope they love the simplicity of these
beautiful characters in the film," he said. "It has been beautifully shot and directed by Amit Roy and we were mentored
by Shoojit Sircar, who we all know is a genius. We have made
this film with a lot of love and hard work. I just hope it finds
a place in people's heart and I hope people give it its due," he
said. While Amit is fresh off the success of "Sultan", Taapsee
is riding high on the "Pink" 'wave'. When asked if this is the
best time to release "Runningshaadi.com, the actor said, "This
is all maths. I don't understand maths. I just hope it comes out
now, it's waited too long. And yes, we cannot deny the popularity of Taapsee, she's a huge star," he said. Amit said he had
an amazing experience working with Taapsee and he admires her courage. "I think she is a feisty, amazing, beautiful,
down to earth girl. She is a great actor, a great performer and
a great friend. And what I love about her is that she calls a
spade a spade," he said. "She is a very courageous girl and I
always salute and admire her. I am genuinely a big fan of her,"
Amit added. (PTI)

Mumbai Film Festival organisers for selecting a Pakistani
film

be
showcased at the upcoming

the same for which it has

The outfit, Sangharsh, has
accused the organisers of
playing with the nationalist
sentiments of people of India, at a time of tension
with Pakistan after the Uri
terror attack. "The organisers of this event are more
likely to flare the outrage
among people by screening
this Pakistani film in their
film festival. This will just
not be acceptable as it will
give rise to more tension
and outrage among the people," read the letter written
by the organisation's president Prithvi Mhaske to

Amboli police here. "Moreover, IMPAA has also decided to ban Pakistani actors from working in
Bollywood and also almost
all single screen theatres
have decided to ban movies
of Pakistani actors. So, why
the organisers of MAMI
Mumbai Festival are pouring so much love towards
the Pakistani actors," the letter read. The 18th edition of
the festival will be held
from October 20-27 in
which over 180 films from
54 countries would be
screened at several spots
across the city.
Mhaske told PTI, "If the
organisers do not stop
screening the film, my
workers would stall the
screening of the film."
When contacted, Amboli's
Senior Police Inspector
Bharat Gaikwad said, "Yes, I
have received an applica-

tion in this regard and I
have summoned both the
parties tomorrow to go into
the merits of the application." "Jago Hua Savera" is a
1958 Pakistani drama film,

Guild differs with cinema owners;
backs release of ADHM
MUMBAI, OCT 17 /--/ A
body of film and TV producers has said films like
"Ae Dil Hai Mushkil"
and "Raees", which are
set for release, should
not be targeted after the
cinema owners association announced it won't
allow the screening of
the movies with Pakistani artistes . The Film
& Television Producers
Guild of India Ltd
(Guild) said it stands by
the government in its
fight against terrorism
but stopping films from
releasing will result in
heavy losses for the makers.
Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of
India (COEAI) yesterday
announced it won't release movies starring actors from Pakistan, in
Maharashtra, Gujarat,
Karnataka and Goa.
This has put an uncertainty on the release of
"Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" as
it features Pakistani
heartthrob
Fawad
Khan.
The movie, also starring Aishwarya Rai,
Ranbir
Kapoor
and
Anushka Sharma, is
slated to hit theatres on
October 28.
"The Guild in no uncertain terms confirms
the film industry stands
in unison with the Government's recent steps to
counter terrorism. It
will naturally abide by
any decision taken by
the Central Government
with regard to future
policy on issuance of
work visa to foreign
artistes.
"However, we would
urge the central and
state governments to appreciate that the film
producers, who have already shot their films or
are in the process of
completing their unfinished films, should not
end up paying heav y
price for no fault of
theirs due to engaging
the services of talent
from acr oss the border.
"These artistes were employed through proper
legal channels prior to
the recent escalation of
hostilities,"
Mukesh
Bhatt, President of the
Guild, said in a statement here. The Guild
urged the government to
ensure smooth release
of "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil",
which has already been
certified by the Censor
Board.
"The Guild urges the
centr al and state g overnments to not only ensure smooth release of
such films, including 'Ae
Dil Hai Mushkil', as well
as to guide the industry
on the way forward with
respect to the mechanism to be adopted in
hiring or utilisation of
talent associated with
our neighbours."
Superstar
Shah
Rukh Khan's another
upcoming movie, "Dear
Zindagi", is also among
the projects on the receiving end of COEAI's
decision. It stars Pakistani actor-singer Ali
Zafar and is set to release in November. (PTI)
Is sugar the new tobacco: AIIMS global symposium to discuss
NEW DELHI, OCT 17 /--/ Dental health scenario in India is
"alarming" and excessive consumption of sugary drinks and
junk food is making matters
worse as high sugar eating habit
is causing "addiction" and dental
ailments, doctors have cautioned. "About 80-90 per cent of
the adult population in the country suffers from mild gingivitis
(gum disease), 60 per cent from
moderate gingivitis and over 50
per cent people overall have dental caries. "Consumption of aerated drinks and junk food high
on sugar, makes people unwittingly addicted to sugar, leading
to craving for it, and eventually
it wrecks their dental health.
The addiction could be similar to
that of tobacco, and hence a matter of worry," Chief of Centre for
Dental Education and Research
(CDER) at the AIIMS, Dr O P
Kharbanda, told PTI.
Seeking to demystify the evidence on sugar consumption
reaching levels of addiction
akin to tobacco, the AIIMS is organising an international symposium here on -- "Is Sugar the New
Tobacco" -- on November 11.
"Two international experts on
dental health and nutrition from
the UK would be attending the
event, besides some experts from
the AIIMS. The symposium
would also deliberate on the global best practices on control of
sugar intake and suitable guidelines needed in India context," he
said. CDER also houses the WHOCollaboration Centre on Oral
Health
Promotion,
and
Kharbanda, the head of the Division of Orthodontics and
Dentofacial Deformities said, "Infants as
young as 1-2 years old are getting dental caries." "Many mothers leave milk bottles in their babies' mouths. And, this leads to
deposition of sugar, mixed in the
milk, in and around their teeth,
leading
to
caries,"
said
Kharbanda, who is also the chairman of the organising committee
of the symposium. On teeth-related ailments, he added that
about 25 per cent people suffer
from malocclusion (imperfect
positioning of the teeth when the
jaws are closed), with the ag e
group of 10-30 being the most
susceptible. Oncologists in India
have identified chewable tobacco as a major health scare
leading to head-and-neck cancer,
and suggested increasing taxation on such products to deter its
consumption. Taxing sugary
drinks can lower consumption
and reduce obesity, type 2 diabetes and tooth decay, according to
a new WHO report released recently. "National dietary surveys
indicate that drinks and foods
high in free sugars can be a major
source of unnecessary calories
in people's diets, particularly in
the case of children, adolescents
and young adults," it says. Dental
experts at AIIMS said people
working in the field of IT, especially the call centre employees
are at high risk of getting dental
ailments, as they consume a lot
of high-sugar drinks and beverages.
"They take it in little sips,
and are unmindful of the fact
that they may have become addicted to the sugar in drinks. Indians anyway have been traditionally poor about oral hygiene,
and hectic and erratic lifestyle is
now adding to the woes, as people work for long hours, and food
particles left unattended leads to
dental plaque or biofilm as it is
called now," a doctor at the CDER
said. Kharbanda said though
both the urban and rural classes
are equally susceptible to dental
ailments, "people in big cities
like Delhi and Mumbai, who
party a lot, drink a lot, and consume junk food regularly, are getting addicted to sugar more.
"And, gum diseases can manifest in many form, from gingivitis to halitosis (bad breath), and
pyrea and dental caries (cavities). And, the dental health situation, right now in India is alarming. People need to control their
food habit and go for check-up if
they suspect something," he said.
The senior doctor also said that
during the symposium, national
and international experts would
exchange knowledge and, "we
are also planning to send the
resolutions reached at the end of
the symposium, to the government." According to the WHO report, "a number of countries
have taken fiscal measures to
protect people from unhealthy
products. These include Mexico,
which has implemented an ex-
cise tax on non-alcoholic beverages with added sugar, and Hungary, which has imposed a tax on
packaged products with high
sugars, salt or caffeine levels."
"Countries, such as the Philippines, South Africa and the
United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Northern Ireland have also
announced intentions to implement taxes on sugary drinks," it
adds. Kharbanda says that besides, erratic lifestyle, gene and
nutrition are also among the factors for dental ailments. Incidentally, as per health exper ts junk
food is also causing obesity in
people, especially the urban
youth. "So, for them it is a double
whammy." "Consumption of free
sugars, including products like
sugary drinks, is a major factor
in the global increase of people
suffering from obesity and diabetes," according to Dr Douglas
Bettcher, Director of WHO's Department for the Prevention of
NCDs. Asked if India as enough
dentists, Kharbanda said, "We do
not have shortage of dentists but
there is an unequal distribution
across urban and rural areas."
