The more you know, the more you know!
About Us
BrainPOP creates cross-curricular digital content that engages
students — animated movies, learning games, interactive quizzes,
concept mapping, high-interest readings, and more. We support
teachers with tools to facilitate formative and custom assessment,
student feedback, and tracking of individual and class-wide learning.
Our offerings are created by in-house educators, animators, and
writers, with input from expert academic advisors. Award-winning
resources include BrainPOP Jr. (ages 5–9), BrainPOP (ages 9+),
BrainPOP ESL (for English language learners), and the learning games
portal GameUp (all ages). These cover hundreds of topics within
STEM, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Health, Music, and Arts.
BrainPOP topics include a curricular movie and related quiz, learning
games, activities, concept mapping, and lesson ideas.
We localize and align to academic standards of diverse regions,
with resources in American and British English, Spanish, French, and
Mandarin. In the process, we work with subject experts to ensure
educational and cultural appropriateness.
BrainPOP was founded in 1999 by pediatrician and immunologist
Avraham Kadar, MD, as a way to explain difficult concepts to his young
patients. Today, we are recognized around the globe as a leader in
digital education. Nearly 25 percent of schools in the United States
subscribe to our resources, with rapid international growth. We host
millions of site visits per month, and our apps — for all major mobile
platforms — have been installed more than 10 million times. We
maintain a firm commitment to teachers and to enriching the learning
experience for children everywhere.
Teacher Professional Development
SnapThought, available on select GameUp titles, lets students
capture and reflect on moments in game play, note their thought
process, and submit it to teachers for feedback.
Designed to help teachers implement 21st century tools and get the
most out of our resources, BrainPOP Educators offers a range of
professional development opportunities on different topics, as well as
a certification program. We regularly conduct workshops and trainings
in the United States, United Kingdom, and Latin America.
Resources available in English, Spanish,
French, and Mandarin.
Our Standards search tool shown on BrainPOP Español. Content is
aligned to local academic standards, including the Common Core in
the United States.
OUR
GLOBAL
WORK
BrainPOP presents at leading education conferences around
the world, on a breadth of current practices and innovations.
Recent sessions include those at UNESCO’s Mobile Learning
Week (Paris); the WISE Summit (Doha); Digital Education
Show Asia (Kuala Lumpur); ACEC (Perth); Microsoft Global
Forum (Prague, Washington); ISTE (Philadelphia, Atlanta, San
Antonio). Next year we are participating in the 21st Century
Learning conference program (Hong Kong), among others.
Highlights from global initiatives appear below.
Colombia
In its most ambitious mobile learning project to date, the
Colombian Ministry of Information and Communications and
Technology has provided the country’s students with more
than one million tablets, all pre-loaded with our award-winning
Featured Movie app. To support and help implement the project,
BrainPOP led a national-scale professional development effort.
Shanghai
In 2013, the Shanghai Education Bureau piloted BrainPOP
China’s science content with 1,600 public elementary students
as part of an effort to implement digital tools for instruction.
The results of the successful pilot were published locally in two
books, one detailing the program’s structure and one highlighting
lesson plans and topic guides to support science teachers.
UNHCR
Since 2012, BrainPOP has supported the United Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees with the provision of content
and on-site training to educators at Malaysian community
learning centers — part of one of the largest initiatives in
the world to deal with urban populations. The initial pilot led
to a global partnership between BrainPOP and the UNHCR
Education Strategy, including efforts at their biggest refugee
camp, in Dadaab, Kenya. At that camp, our resources are
used as part of a holistic education solution that also includes
training on tablets and specially designed computer labs.
