HEY,
Thanks for your help! We couldn’t have
created this UK guide without you. We
would’ve had to ask your parents to give
us their ideas instead. And then this guide
would be soooo BORING, and full of things
like the National Gallery of Yawns and the
mind-numbing Museum of Whatevs.
When we asked children across the country
to tell us their favourite places to go and
things to do in Britain, the response we got
from you was awesome. We counted up your
votes, and here are the most popular choices.
How many of them do you know? See how
many new ones you can visit this year.
I’m Sid the Seagull and I LOVE running
around! Theme parks and water slides
are my favourites..oh, and ICE CREAM!
I’m Lizzie the Lizard and my daytrip favourites
are dancing on the beach, collecting shells
and making new friends.

Best Sand Castles
1st
To the
Weymouth, Dorset
There’s loads of wet sand because the
shoreline is so long. So this is perfect
for building proper sandcastles.
It’s so good in fact, there is a sand
sculptor there – but we know you
can build something much better!
Seriously Amazi
ng Beaches
2nd
Holywell Bay, Newquay
It is perfect for sculpting and maybe
even making the tallest sandcastles!
Also, because it’s in Newquay, you can
be sure there will be plenty of surfers
about too, so you can watch them
in action as you build your castle.
3rd
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s off
to the beach we go!
Croyde Bay, Devon
This beach is where the National
Sandcastle building competition is
every year and they have a family
sandcastle competition for the first
time this year. Time to get practicing!
We love the beach; you can do so much there. It’s a great day
out with lots of running around and playing games, adventuring,
yummy sugary snacks to enjoy and things to discover. Plus
parents don’t mind if we get a bit messy! Building sandcastles
and exploring rock pools are our favourite beach activities. So
we’ve asked for your help to find the best places for these.

Here’s where to find the top six beac

Loads of fishermen work from here,
which is why there are loads of

and spade for building sandcastles
and adventuring in the rock pools.
2nd
Embo Beach
Ruby Bay, Fife
Aberdour Silver Sands, Fife
Polzeath Beach,
Cornwall
If you go down to Polzeath Beach
today you’ll be in for a big surprise
– loads of crabs! The beach, as well
as being brilliant for watersports,
has some great rock pools. Check
Pentireglaze Haven, which is like
a secret beach revealed when
the tide is out, for some quiet
and sheltered crab hunting.

The Best Ice Cream
1st
Roskilly’s Ice Cream
Farm, Cornwall
The creamy, organic milk for their delicious
ice cream comes from Roskilly’s lovely,
herd. OK, when we say “lovely”, we don’t
mean you’d mistake any of them for Katy
Perry. But, as cattle go, they’re lookers.

2nd
Yorkshire Dales Ice
Cream Farm, Yorkshire
You’ve got to try Yorkshire Dales’ ice
cream at their fantastic, US-style diner:
Billy-Bob’s. Try to get your mum or dad
to order in an American accent. Then
make sure you laugh very loudly indeed.
www.yorkshiredalesicecream.co.uk
YUM!
Everyone loves ice cream! Well, everyone we know does.
And so do their friends and close relatives. And their
distant relatives. And their… Anyway, you get the idea.
Grab a big spoon – no, even bigger than that – because
here’s where you’ll find the yummiest of the yummy.

The Dartmouth Ice
Cream Company, Devon
These guys have lots of deliciously
bonkers flavours, including banana &
peanut and bubble-gum swirl. That’s
two flavours, by the way. Not one.
Because that really would be crazy.

Top Spots for Picnics
1st
Snowdonia National Park
Visitor Centre, North Wales
If you want to build up an appetite
before eating try walking all the way to
the top! You will of course be rewarded
with a fabulous setting to have a picnic
because of the amazing views.
Yummy fish & chips
and picnics
2nd
Lost Gardens of
Heligan, Cornwall
Loads of you found this magical place. It is
like you enter another world. Animals, flowers
and lots of open space are just waiting to be
discovered. And with so many amazing
places, it will be a tough decision where
to settle down to eat.
3 rd
How come eating outdoors
is so much fun?
It’s because, when the sun is shining it’s great to be outdoors.
From the loads of replies we’ve had from you guys, it sounds
like you agree. So, we’ve picked out two of our favourite
meals – a picnic and fish and chips - and you’ve told us
where is best to go. Good timing too cos we’re starving!
10
Barafundle Beach,
Pembrokeshire
This National Trust location is a great
little cove. You can sit on the beach,
on the fresh grass or on a bench. And
afterwards, the sea is only a short sprint
away (just be careful not to get too
excited – no one likes sea-sandwiches!).
11
Where is Top Cod for Fish and Chips?
1st
Anstruther Fish Bar,
Fife, Scotland
Who knew fish and chips could win awards?
Well this plaice (sorry, couldn’t resist) has.
When you’ve got a big portion and splashed
it with vinegar, there are plenty of benches
nearby where you can sit and enjoy your
extra special fish and chips.
www.anstrutherfishbar.co.uk
2nd
Stein’s Fish & Chips
Padstow, Cornwall
This is posh fish and chips for sure.
You can eat in or take away (we prefer
to have a wander and eat ours), plus,
the scrummy food comes with fun
activity sheets too. Perfect!
www.rickstein.com
3 rd
Magpie’s Café
Whitby, Yorkshire
Yummy! Whitby is a lovely part of the
UK. The takeaway (which is always
busy with people having a good time)
is worth queuing for because the fish is
so fresh and the chips are chunky.

Colour with us!
We love being outside! There’s nothing better than looking
at all the different colours in the sunshine. Say, why not
help us add some colour to Startown? Ask an adult to
print this page for you, grab out your favourite pens and
GO WILD!!

Best Waterparks
Let’s make a
1st
Sandcastle Water Park,
Blackpool, Lancashire
It’s like a water jungle. Slides weave in and
around each other like snakes. There’s a pirate
ship. You can even race against friends. And
there is a huge pool too. 18 slides in total…
we never managed to fit them all in – which is
great because it means we get to go back!

ee Waterparks
2nd
Splashdown Waterpark,
Poole, Dorset
If you’re a bit of a thrill seeker like us then
Splashdown Waterpark is definitely a mustvisit. The Velocity ride has an official scream
factor of FIVE Woooooooohoooooo! There
are loads of other slides to check out too.
Woooohooooo!
poole.splashdownwaterparks.co.uk
This is one of our favourite bits. We love waterparks. You can
make lots of noise. You get to go on rides. And you get to
make a splash and have loads of fun with your friends. The
best thing is though, that there are loads of them to choose
from! So, once again we have relied on your help to pick out
the three waterparks where you can have the most fun.
3rd
Water Park at Alton
Towers, Staffordshire
This is like Alton Towers – only with water! There
are loads of fantastic interactive features like
the Flash Floods, Rush and Rampage and the
Master Blaster Water Coaster. It’s serious fun
for the whole family and open all year round.

Where to Fly a Kite the Highest!
Let’s Get
1st
Gower Peninsula,
Swansea, South Wales
This is an Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty, officially; it has the certificate
to prove it! It’s easy to see why, so we
can understand why you’ve picked
this as a brilliant place to fly a kite.
www.visitwales.com
Let's. Get. Actiiiiiiive!
2nd
Filey Beach,
North Yorkshire
People say it is always windy in
Yorkshire. We don’t know who says
that but it’s certainly true of Filey
Beach. It is a wonderful beach that’s
nice and long, plenty of space to run
around in and get a kite in the air.

16
Watergate Bay,
Newquay, Cornwall
We love sports and we
especially love running around!
This little pocket of Newquay gets some
great wind even when the sun is shining.
This is because it sits tucked away amongst
cliffs, which helps whip up the wind!
It could be in a field, at a park, wherever, it doesn’t really matter
so long as there is plenty of space. And there are so many things
to do like bike rides and walks, loads of different sports and
even flying a kite (which sometimes means parents have to get
involved but we’ll let them, even though they’re old). You’ve all
been busy telling us the best places to go so we can stay active!

(second year running)
Go Ape, Crathes
Castle, Aberdeenshire,
It’s time to go crazy on rope
swings and cargo nets, and do
it in a castle! Even your parents
can go ape, everyone can go
ape and have loads of fun.
Get your bike, grab your helmet and even pack
your walking shoes because this is a place to
adventure. There are woods to cycle through, hills
to climb on foot and loads and loads of beautiful
scenery – we can see why you picked this one!

2nd
The Camel Trail,
Cornwall
2nd
Who fancies sliding down a 110m dry
ski slope at great speed or jumping
through the air pulling off some super
cool stunts? You can do all of that here.
The best thing is, even if you’re new to
the sport, there are family ski lessons and
the Ringo’s are great fun for the kids.
There’s only one way to discover some of
Cornwall’s secret paths and that is to cycle
through the Camel Trail. Weave up and down,
along and through the virtually flat route.
Maybe even try a race through the spectacular
countryside! Your parents won’t be far behind,
strolling through the wonderful scenery.
nd

2rd
Sherwood Pines Forest Park,
Nottinghamshire
The Sherwood Pines looks like a great place
to have a bike race against your friends.
Slalom in-between the trees and speed up
down the dirt tracks. Or, if your parents are
with you, you can enjoy an adventure walk.

It looks like something from space but inside is a
whole forest worth discovering. In fact it’s the world’s

it’s really cool – well it can get quite hot actually.
