IRONMAN will operate under the “three strikes and you’re out” principle. Even though DRAFTING and LITTERING are the only two violations to incur a time penalty (to be served in the closest penalty tent, located along the bike course), every type of violation counts toward your three strikes, and every bike course violation requires a stop in a penalty tent. Any penalties incurred on the run course are to be served at the point of infraction. Any combination of three Violations results in a DSQ. So that you understand the rules on race day, please take the time to read and understand all rules and regilations in the Athlete Guide and the 2015 TC Competitive Rules. The POSITION violations are summarized below: • Always ride on the right side of your lane to avoid an ILLEGAL POSITION or BLOCKING penalty • Keep five bike lengths of clear space between your bike’s front wheel and the rear wheel of the cyclist in front of you to avoid a DRAFTING call • Always pass on the left of the cyclist in front of you; Never on the right to avoid an ILLEGAL PASS . Complete your pass within 20 seconds to avoid a DRAFTING penalty • Passed athletes must be seen making immediate and constant rear progress out of the drafting zone to avoid a DRAFTING call Yan Therrien IRONMAN HEAD OFFICIAL Triathlon is an individual event, and it is your responsibility to fully understand the rules and avoid penalties. The referee’s ruling is final in the case of POSITION violations, and there are no protests or appeals. Other common violations include: DRAFTING VIOLATION BLUE CARD five minute time penalty served in a penalty tent on the bike course ! HELMET CHINSTRAP Your chinstrap must be securely fastened whenever you are on your bike on race day. LITTERING VIOLATION ! RACE NUMBER You must wear your bib number during the run portion of the race. In addition, your bike frame sticker must be properly attached to your bike frame and must be visible from both sides. ! LITTERING Do not throw ANYTHING outside of official aid stations. Littering will result in a five minute time penalty. ! stop and go time penalty served at the next penalty tent UNAUTHORIZED EQUIPMENT Sorry, absolutely NO communication devices, MP3 players or other audio devices. (Yes, that means NO cell phones). ! OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE Non-racers may NOT ride or run alongside you. DISQUALIFICATION (DSQ) ! TIME PENALTIES Remember that even though DRAFTING and LITTERING are the only violations that incur a five minute time penalty, you must go to a penalty tent for any violation to have your number marked, and all violations count toward your three strikes. There will be no penalty tents on the run. If you are penalized on the run, the official will mark your number on the spot. BLUE CARD five minute time penalty served in a penalty tent on the bike course BLOCKING VIOLATION YELLOW CARD RED CARD Any combination of three violations will result in race disqualification. Please treat other athletes, all volunteers, and your referees with courtesy and consideration. Not doing so is UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT and may result in disqualification. I sincerely hope you have a great race and achieve all your goals. These rules are in effect for a number of important reasons and exist to make your experience the best, safest and most stress-free it can be. 2.4 SWIM 112 BIKE • 26.2 RUN Athlete Guide: Athlete 2.4 SWIMGuide: • 112 BIKE • 26.2•RUN INFORMATION The scheduling of Athlete Check-In is designed to allow each athlete the opportunity to become oriented with the venue, acclimated to the area and receive all the necessary information needed to have a successful race. The Mandatory Athlete Briefing will be held on Friday at 7:10 p.m. at the Banque Tent and is hosted for the benefit of all athletes. The briefing will cover important information pertaining to any peculiarities of the course, rules and cut-off times for the disciplines and most importantly any last minute changes or procedures to the event that have occurred, or may potentially occur due to weather related forecasts. It is equally important for athletes to have ample time to check-in their bike and other gear and to make sure all bases are covered leading up to race day. Rushing to complete all necessary tasks within a couple of hours is counterproductive to race preparation. It also creates additional pressure on event staff who work under a tight deadline to execute an IRONMAN event. Competing in an IRONMAN event is a significant endeavor and requires proper planning for your safety and the safety of your fellow competitors, the volunteers, event staff and the hosting community. Thank you for your cooperation. We want to ensure the very best experience for you, not only on race day, but throughout the weekend’s activities. WELCOMING DINNER Each athlete has a complimentary entry, with the show of the wrist band, to the carbo dinner. It is being held on Friday August 14 at 5 p.m. Guests’ tickets are available and in limited quantities. They will be for sale on the event’s website, at the information booth and at the venue for $30 per ticket (special pricing for children). It is first come first serve. Mandatory Athlete Briefing Athletes are required to attend the Mandatory Athlete Briefing offered on Friday at 7:10 p.m. at the Banquet Tent. ATHLETE WRISTBAND A wristband printed with your race number will be affixed to your wrist at Athlete Check-In. This band will identify you as an official participant and must be worn throughout the weekend of the event. The wristband is required for medical identification purposes and allows you access to both transition areas and post-race athlete recovery area. You will not be allowed to remove your bike and/or gear from transition after the race without your wristband affixed to your wrist (see bike check-out details). You must be wearing your wristband if you plan to claim a slot for the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship presented by GoPro. To alleviate stress, it’s important that you arrive on race day healthy, fit and prepared. Here's a top-10 checklist to help get you ready. 1. Prepare for Race Conditions • Race day should not be your first open water swim. Make sure some of your training replicates real race conditions, including water temperature, proximity to other swimmers and wearing a wetsuit if needed. 6. Don’t Use New Gear on Race Day 2. Race in Shorter Events • Focus on controlling as much as you can on race day. • You should never race in equipment you haven’t trained in. This is not the time to test new gear. • Make sure your wetsuit fits properly and that your goggles, swim cap and other accessories work properly. • Prepare for the unexpected with backups of all your gear. 3. Learn About Course Details • Arrive early enough on race day for a proper warm-up prior to the start, preferably in the water. • If you aren’t able to warm up in the water, spend between 5 and 10 minutes getting loose. • Be sure to do some cardio activity, such as a light jog, to increase circulation and prep your muscles. • Being properly trained is the best way to reduce anxiety. If possible, race in shorter events and clinics to prepare yourself for open water conditions. • For extra guidance, talk to a coach or your local triathlon club. • It’s important to prepare yourself mentally as well as physically prior to race day. Thoroughly review the race website and pre-race communication to familiarize yourself with the course. • Keep in mind, every body of water is different, so you’ll need to educate yourself on water current and surf conditions. • Study the event timetable to plan for proper arrival and preparation. 4. Ensure Heart Health • As an athlete in training, you should take the proper steps to assess your health with your physician. • The American Heart Association suggests a 12-step screening process for competitive athletes. This includes a physical exam as well as an assessment of your family history and personal heart health. 5. Pay Attention to Warning Signs • If you experience chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, light-headedness or blacking out while training, consult your doctor. 2.4 SWIM 112 BIKE • 26.2 RUN Athlete Guide: Athlete 2.4 SWIMGuide: • 112 BIKE • 26.2•RUN 7. Warm Up on Race Day 8. Check Out the Course • Get comfortable with the course by checking out water conditions, the swim entry, exit layouts, along with turn buoy locations. • Identify basic navigation points so that you know what you are swimming towards. 9. Start Easy – Relax and Breathe • Don’t race at maximum effort from the start. • Relax and focus on proper breathing technique as you settle into a sustainable pace. 10. Be Alert and Ask for Help • In a race setting always stop at the first sign of a medical problem. • If you or a fellow athlete needs help, just raise your hand to alert a lifeguard or safety boat. • Race rules allow for competitors to stop or rest at any time during the swim. • Feel free to hold on to a static object like a raft, buoy, or dock. • You may also rest by holding on to a kayak, boat or even a paddleboard. As long as you don’t use it to move forward, you won’t face disqualification. 16 SWIM Technical Services OFFICIAL WETSUIT RENTAL AND REPAIR OKÉ TRIATHLON www.OKEtriathlon.com 9150 Claveau Anjou, Québec H1J 1Z4 OKÉ Triathlon is the official wetsuit rental and repair partner for Subaru IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant. This is not just for your safety but also to ensure local drivers can get where they need to go without delay and frustration. • Always run on sidewalks or on the multifunctional trail and never on the road. • Please obey traffic laws (stop at stop signs, signal when turning, etc.). • Please do not use private property as a toilet. There are plenty of local stores along the way with public bathrooms – please use them! • Please do not litter. Keep your energy bar and gel wrappers with you until you find a trash can. • Please ask your friends and family members to refrain from painting the roads along the course. This defaces public property and is a punishable offense. • Please wear a helmet during all official activities when you are riding your bike. This includes, competition, course familiarization and training sessions 20 BIKE Tech Services OFFICIAL BIKE STORE Cycle Technique 788 Atwater Avenue Montreal, Quebec H4C 2G9 http://www.cycletechnique.com/ Cycle Technique is the official bike shop for the 2015 Subaru IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant. This system allows athletes to generate points based on their finish time behind the first official finisher in their age group. Athletes accumulate points for each race they complete. On December 31st, only the top three performances will count toward an athletes’ All World Athlete status. This makes it easy for athletes to improve their ranking by simply racing more with IRONMAN. An athlete can achieve All World Athlete status in one or all of the following categories: IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3 and OVERALL (IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 combined). There are three levels associated with the All World Athlete program: GOLD (top one percent) SILVER (top five percent) BRONZE (top ten percent) For questions regarding the ALL World Athlete Program, please contact: [email protected] Benefits for this race: * Priorty Access to Athlete registration * All World Athlete logo on bibs * All World Athlete Swim caps * Priority bike check in for Gold and Silver All World Athletes (specific details in All World Athlete email) 2.4 SWIM 112 BIKE • 26.2 RUN Athlete Guide: Athlete 2.4 SWIMGuide: • 112 BIKE • 26.2•RUN 30 TOGETHER, WE TRAIN TO BEAT CANCER Achieve your personal best and get guaranteed race entry into sought after events. Compete to earn the title of 2015 Canadian TriClub Champion! how it works Clubs are divided into club divisions based on the size of the club. This makes it fun for TriClubs to compete against other TriClubs in their division. For races in North America, clubs compete against each other at IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events. Athletes who are registered with a club earn points based on IRONMAN’s Age Group Ranking system. These points are added together and are used to determine the Division Champion at the event. For the Cross-Canada overall competition any clubs that meet the qualifying criteria will be automatically entered into the championship point calculation. Any points earned at any races, including those earned outside of the Canadian series will count towards determining the top pointgetting clubs. Points will be frozen on December 31, 2015 and the winners of the competition will be announced in early January 2016. Divisions Division I - Clubs with greater than 300 active members and National Coaching programs Division II - Clubs with 176-299 active members Division III - Clubs with 76-175 active members Division IV - Clubs with 26-75 active members Division V - Clubs under 25 active members Wondering how to get your TriClub involved?
