What do raising thoroughbred horses and growing wine grapes have
in common? Both take vision and a lot of patience. They’ve been raising race horses here for 10 years and making wines for about half that
time. The tasting room above is recently opened, so Solaro is a bit of
a secret, which is a pleasant change from some of the larger, more
crowded wineries. A boutique winery, their limited production aims to
take advantage of smaller harvests of grapes like montepulciano,
tempranillo and barbera. Here, your tasting is apt to be poured by the
owner herself, who can tell you first-hand all about her passion for
“robust dry reds.”

The two-year-old tasting room is surrounded by walls of glass,
open to the vineyards just outside. In addition to wine tastings,
they also sell antipasto plates to enjoy inside or out.

The vineyard is inspired by the traditional family vineyards in Italy (yes, there really
is a Solaro, Italy).
Barbara, the owner, says the family has been on this land since 1909. Last year, to
commemorate that milestone, they bottled their 100-Year Bordorosso.
