119th Maramon Convention - St Thomas Mar Thoma Church

Sunil Joy Vicar [email protected] (For Private Circulation only) Parsonage Location Salmiya, Street 10, Bldg No. 20 1st Floor, Flat No. 14 Al-Dhahok Bin Qays Street Opp. Bestow Super Market New Year Message from Vicar Dearly Beloved in Christ, Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I am happy to write to you all, once again, through the parish bulletin- St. Thomas Messenger. We are on the threshold of a world famous convention, i.e., “Maramon Convention”, and “Marubhoomiyile Maramon” in the land of Kuwait. Convention meeting is a time for hearing the word of God and enjoying spiritual fellowship. Once a tree was planted by the side of a house; its branches bore large and beautiful blossoms; whereas the other side of the same tree- some branches round the corner of the house- had no blossoms, but was starved and drooping; and therefore, had little hope of any fruit. Why was it so, when the branches had the same root and stem in common? It was noticed that the branches that blossomed were in glorious sun light whereas the barren branches were in the shade. Christian life can get nourished only by the divine light of the Word. The Psalmist says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Ps 119:105), and St. Paul writes, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you” (Col 3:16). In order that the Word may dwell in us, it must first enter into us. We must, therefore, read it, or hear it. Yet there is something more than the mere hearing or reading of it; for some hear the truth with one ear, and let it go away out of the other ear; and others are great readers, yet they seem to read only what is on the surface. A person cannot dwell in a house unless he enters into it. He who dwells in a house abides, resides, remains, and continues there. “The word of Christ” always dwelling inside of us; in the memory and is never forgotten; in the heart, always loved; in the understanding, really grasped. I pray and wish that all people enjoy the Word of God through hearing and obeying it. I admonish you my dear members, that you must attend Friday and Tuesday worship services regularly. Parishioners who depart for a long time from the worship services or cottage prayers must think about their loyalty towards God and the Mar Thoma Sabha. I do not encourage anyone attending any worship services other than the Marthoma Services. You deserve to get Christian fellowship/ Pastoral care from the parish, and I am here for that and with you in your need at all times. The prayer group office bearers must visit those who are irregular in attending worship, two by two. Let us define our vision as to why we are here and what we must do for the Lord; is it just to earn some money for our needs…? God has blessed us with a job in Kuwait; your tithe not only in terms of money, but also in terms of time must be given to the Lord. May God bless you all abundantly. With Prayerful regards, Yours in Christ Service Sunil Joy Achen Vicar The last wishes of Alexander the Great: On his death bed, Alexander summoned his generals and told them his 3 ultimate wishes: 1. The best doctors should carry his coffin. 2.The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold, precious stones) should be scattered along the procession to the cemetery, and 3. His hands should be let loose, hanging outside the coffin for all to see. One of his generals who was surprised by these unusual requests asked Alexander to explain. Here is what Alexander the Great had to say: 1. I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that, in the face of death, even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal. 2. I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees that material wealth acquired on earth, stays on earth. 3. I want my hands to swing in the wind, so that people understand that we come to this world empty handed and we leave this world empty handed after the most precious treasure of all is exhausted, and that is TIME. How to Define…. Love, Truth, Compassion The main place for Truth is the Tongue, Love resides in the Heart, and Compassion lives in one’s Eyes. If someone asks, what is the definition of Truth, then stay quiet; this is the illustration of Truth. If someone asks you to define Love, then laugh a little; this itself is Love. If someone asks you to explain Compassion, then let your eyes moisten; this is the meaning of Compassion. 9 BEAUTIFUL MESSAGES!! 1. Stay away from anger, it hurts only you. 2. If you are right then there is no need to get angry, and if you are wrong then you don’t have any right to get angry. 3. Patience with family is love, Patience with others is respect. Patience with self is confidence and Patience with GOD is faith. 4. Never think hard about the PAST, It brings tears. Don’t think more about the FUTURE, It brings fears. Live this moment with a smile, it brings cheers. 5. Every test in our life makes us bitter or better, every problem comes to make us or break us; the choice is ours whether we become victims or victorious. 6. Beautiful things are not always good but good things are always beautiful. 7. Do you know why God created gaps between fingers? So that someone who is special to you comes and fills those gaps by holding your hand forever. 8. Happiness keeps you sweet so try n be as happy from within as possible. 9. God has sent us all in pairs, someone somewhere is made for u. So wait for the right time n right moment.
